195.81 does not mention opencl support but 195.62 does so i downgraded from 195.82 to 195.62 but still no opencl

maybe it`s a gpu-z fault as there is a few other problems with unknown sections.

I don't think its needed since it runs so cool. I might later. I just don't wanna void the warranty.

Thanks.. that sounds like it should fix the issue. I have made the change but have not tested it yet.

Thanks Ramzii... I knew most of the battery info but was not sure about removing the pack but that is covered in the info you provided. Im draining it down to about 40% now and will set it aside for now.

Since this is my daughters computer I have decided to just leave the software installed as is. This is already more computer than she needs so squeezing out every ounce of performance is really not a concern. It is doing everything was want so I dont see a need to change it.

What is the normal working temperatures of the cpu cores?

I did read in this post that it was anywhere between 50C during idle to 75C while gaming, but then with HP settings, its 65C under load..

my lappy does around 50C with light internet surfing etc and goes up to 75C while watching HD videos with DIVX while room temps are around 25C..

I am not sure if i need to go for a cooling pad for this laptop.

Méh, not really neccesary.. as long as you keep it elevated during load the cooling paste should survive splendidly. You temps seem normal.. even during load I never reached 80°+

I ám worried about dust in vents though.. in a couple of months we will be confronted with that problem. Since its my first notebook im not quite sure what to do? Get compressed air cans?

it doesn't require a cooling pad by itself, it is a matter of whether the heat you feel is convenient or not.
The CPU is designed for upto 100C before it throttles down.
8x C is pretty normal for GPU when gaming.
If you are gaming a lot, you will probably need one.

I have to disagree with this, you will easily reach 9x for CPU and GPU if you run furmark+prime95 as a stability test.

Agree, compressed air every while. In addition, i am planning to apply AS5 in the near future to give a little help.

Thanks for the super quick response guys :) The laptop itself is cool with the left bottom being warm.

I am not a gamer as such, so will not be worried then. tried googling for the info, but did not find any proper answers.

As for cleaning the laptop, as long as the vents dont get clogged up, i would just use a damp cloth or a cotton swab to clean the dust every once in a while.. And then in a year or so, i would see if the fan has accumulated dust, but that would be as far as i would go to do any cleaning myself..

Correct; I meant during "normal" load.. not benchmark stressing.
In example, during playing Fallout 3 maxed out it GPU never surpasses 79°C :D

AS5? Is that some kind of paste? If so, wouldnt that void warranty?

the laptop itself remains cool.. just the left bottom gets warm. Im not much of a gamer, so, im not going to get worried

As for cleaning the laptop, as long as the vents are not clogged, i would just use a damp cloth or a cotton swab on the vents and ports to remove the dust every once i a while

Have read about compressed air, but, am a bit iffy about opening up the laptop. however, i guess doing that is inevitable to keep the machine in top shape

Edit: Sorry for the double post.. Got kicked out of the session.. and when i logged back in, did not see my old post

Wasnt that some kind of HP programming failure?
The CPU doesnt really reach that temp does it?
It would be next to impossible being its just a bios upgrade?
Dont think it shuts down at 90°C.. would be healthy though.
I remember that the shutdown temp was configurable. Not sure though.

Theres a 64GB Kensington SSD from Newegg that is on sale for $104.99. The original price was $150, but has a $15 instant rebate and $30 Mail in rebate. I don't know if this SSD is good or bad, so I recommend you researching before making your final purchase. Although, there are not that many decent SSDs in the $100/150s range.

haha, the same thing happened to me. I think its brand-related.
The one who uploaded that .ICC file has a LG display.

Im guess you own a Samsung/Seiko kinda screen.. just like moi.
If youre not sure try a trial of Everest and have a look at the display section. Its a great tool with hardware info. See mine below:

What do you mean by a backup copy of Windows on the drive? You would have to clone your current Hard Drive and copy that clone on to your SSD, since the HP recovery discs won't work on drives that are different than the factory drive.

What power plan are you on? Try the "Power Saver" power plan. You can change the power plans by clicking the battery icon in the notification area of your taskbar(bottom right). These power plans have so many factors in the battery life of your laptop. For example, the "High Power" power plan turns Intel Turbo Boost on, this could possibly lower your battery life, but I cannot confirm that.
You can also try turning the screen brightness down, and turning Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off.

Ok my current bios version is F.13. I checked HP site and it shows F.13A. I do not see a prior bios version on their site that is just F.13 so Im wondering do I have the latest bios and the A is just not displayed on my system?

My only real complaint about this laptop is the power plug on the side of the system. They should have at least but a 90 degree end on the cord.

You actually need to install 3 things to bring them back. Ho Mediasmart Smartmenu, HP quicklaunch buttons, and lastly one of the HP Mediasmart (dvd or webcam or livetv or internet tv) programs.

Alternatively, you could install microsoft intellitype keyboard and that will work as well.

Hmm, I don't know if that would be the best choice...a lot of the people here already have the 12cell battery and that already gives the notebook an adequate lift. And even if somebody needed the lift, it wouldn't be as good as an actual cooler.

I'm having a bit of trouble with finding a good cooler myself (since this is my first notebook that actually gets hot). Can anyone give a good suggestion for a cooler that actually works for this notebook? I know that I need a cooler that sucks from the very top-left corner, but I can't seem to find any that do that.

My laptop did that too (around 7% overnight for me too), but only once, so I couldn't find the source of the problem. It's either a bad battery or the notebook sucking power from it even when it is off. I can't exactly test mine right now, since I have mine on 24/7, but can you try and see if it goes down overnight when you take the battery out? If it does, it might be a hardware problem...
Apparently, the battery drain is natural, but it shouldn't be going down that fast.

    Which battery do you have?
