    oh, ok so the 55Whr IS the High Capacity 6 cell battery is just has the same model number as the normal 6 cell (EV06). How many hours of batter do you get with the normal 6 cell? how many hours with the 12 cell?

    I get around 2 hours max.. usually. Kind of depressing when you think about it haha.
    From what Ive read the 12 Cell gets around 4-4½. Will be getting that one as soon as I find myself a slick bag that can fit it.

    Yeah, same here. It kinda makes me wanna return the laptop and get one of the new Asus UL series that have 2 GPUs (Intel 4500HD and GT 210M) and they offer up to 12 hours of batterY

    There is a huge difference in the power consumption between integrated graphic chipset and discrete ones. It is not unusual for a 44Whr to last 2:30 to 3:00 hrs for integrated chipsets but barely 1:30 to 2:30 for a discrete one.
    If you are looking for extra long battery life, then i7 is not your choice. A lower consumption processor with an integrated video is the choice then.
    The achievement of the i7 series is to bring the excellent performance at a lower power consumption relative to the powerful T9xxx and the intel core 2 quad.
    HP choice of a 44Whr battery is a very poor choice. My advice is to buy the 12 cells battery from ebay not directly from HP and not upgrading it.
    I bought this one @ 66- 10% cashback which has a capacity of 9600MAH in comparison to the regular 8800MAH 12 cells battery, i will report my results when i receive it.

    I was watching a divx video online and happened to open the task manager.. attached is what i found..

    Can somebody please take a look and let me know if the physical memory details shown by the task manager is fine or if there is a problem?

    I am concerned and worried with the value that shows against the "Free" field.

    Hmm. My BatteryBar gives me around 6 hours idle. Granted, I only gave it about 5 minutes to calibrate itself...

    I'll get back to you with a better time on my 12 Cell. I'm going on a 12+ hour road trip tomorrow, so I'll be seeing the full battery life firsthand XD.

    It's not really that bad. I'd say it raises the back of the laptop by about an inch. And if you need to carry it anywhere, you can just take the battery out.

    And it gives the laptop better room to breathe. Since the vents are on the left and the battery is on the right, the vents get lots of air :D.

    Actually, there's only one usable partition which is used to install Windows. All 3 others are: HP_TOOLS, RECOVERY, SYSTEM. I don't know which should I delete. I think all those three are necessary

    Has anybody got bluetooth A2DP to work? I've been trying to pair my headset and it's driving me freaking crazy. It finds the device but does not load the headset or stereo profiles for it. SUCKS! I've tried so many different bt stacks with no help.

    Does a clean install of Win7 remove these partitions ? IS there an option to retain these partitions intact ??

    if you boot from the dvd to do a clean install, you will have the option of deleting or creating partitions or just installing to an existing partition.

    If you install from within windows, it will just over write your current installation.

    Thanks . Do you see any noticable improvement in performance with a clean install .I have uninstall-ed most of the junk that came with the laptop .Except for norton Internet security ,which is kinda not bad and not that resource hungry .Have installed all updates and the latest BIOS .BUT , I am not getting that extra performance boost which I expected from a core i7 system though. My cine bench score is around ~8500 which is kinda low when you compare with this URL . The lower clock speed when I check with speccy is ~980 Mhz .Wonder what's goin on here ??

    I just got mine the day before, so i havent played with it much yet. I don't think you will get any noticeable performance gain from just doing a clean install. As soon as i got mine, i erased the recovery partition and created a partition just to keep my non-system data (media files and junk) so if i every need to format and do a clean install, i can do so without having to move a bunch of files. Plus by deleting the recovery partition i gain an extra 12 or so gigs.

    So far i really like this computer although its probably because i'm used to a much slower one.

    One thing thats getting me really mad though is that i cant get my stereo bluetooth to work (A2DP). I really hope someone out there has got a solution

    Never heard of that benchmark before, im running it as we speak
    ( I always have a hard time doing nothing during the tests haha )

    Lets see, Ive no idea how to interpret this. Could someone knowledgeable help me out?

    CINEBENCH R10
    ****************************************************

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz

    Rendering (Multiple CPU): 8994 CB-CPU

    Multiprocessor Speedup: 3.06

    Shading (OpenGL Standard) : 3440 CB-GFX

    Well yes, you do. And if youve started reading from page one in this thread or any Windows 7 related topic you wouldve known. Ive read it a million times.
    A fresh install always cleans up a pc the way manual deleting stuff never will. I advice you to make the 3 Recovery Discs, backup the SWSETUP folder and go along with it.

    If you want confirmation you could use this tool:

    Look here for theboot-up tool.
    The tool will reboot ur pc, when finished give u the time it took.

    If you format the C: drive , you will delete the MBR and you will loose the ability to use the recovery partition , so make sure you make the recover dvd`s before you do anything you will need 4x dvd`s

    I tried to split the C: drive into 2 , with the W7 disk util and when i rebooted my notebook would not boot anymore and i had to use the recovery dvd`s to re-install.

    You wont be needing the recovery partition when you use the Recovery Manager to create 3 Recovery DVD's.

    If you have a WIN7-bootable-DVD bootup with it and delete every partition.
    ( If not look back a couple of pages, we discussed how to download and make one explicitly )
    Then create 2 partitions.

    I created one for my Windows C: with 100 GB and another one with 350 GB.

    copy SWSETUP folder to an external hard drive or USB pen drive as you will need DRIVERS from it to have your laptop fully functional after a clean install of Windows 7. Ofcourse, there is a newer version for every one of those drivers, but you can always update them later after you get your computer back up.

    i downloaded the 64 BIT FREE PARTITION WIZARD bootable CD image and created one. then i restarted and used PW to delete all the paritions and created one 100gb Primary and one 150gb Logical partitions. Make sure to go into your BIOS and change the boot order to CD/DVD first. Then i just used the downloaded Windows 7 DVD and installed with no issues.

    one of the first things you wanna do before getting ahead is to update the BIOS to the latest one.

    cheers!

    Just put an order for one.
    * • Espresso Black
    * • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
    * • FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * • 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * • 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
    * • 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    * • LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    * • Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    * • Intel Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    * • No TV Tuner w/remote control
    * • HP Color Matching Keyboard
    * • 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * • No Modem
    * • Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    * • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    I love the 12-cell battery and also have one on my DV2700. I was really interested in the XPS 16 with i7 but this was too good of a deal to pass up. I'm going to use this mostly for school and gaming. I really want to play MW2 so I'm hoping the 230M is up to it.

    I Run MW2 at the highest settings (Everything on the Highest and AAx4) and it runs smoothly at the native screen resolution. It even had the power to run it at 1080p on the high settings.

    SYSTEM contains boot files, if you format it you can't boot into windows, I know because I tried it :/. I think HP tools is those diagnostic apps you can use by pressing ESC when hp logo shows up.

    I plan to buy from Costco, either a customized dual-core version or the quad-core stocked version, in order to get the no-questioned-asked (literally!) 90-day return policy. I consider the ability to return if there's one dead pixel, or a repair needed such that I can just return it rather than deal with the horror that some have had getting HP to repair under warranty, worth paying some extra for, not to mention the 2-year warranty.

    I'm hoping Costco will have a coupon soon that will knock $75-$150 off the $999, and make this comparable to the HP coupon buys. I also see many of the HP units bought have "free" blu-ray drives, and WiFi-n class, something missing from the stock Costco unit, those would be nice to have at the $900 price. The customized dv6t dual-core I'm looking at when fully loaded is about $910, so I'm going to be in that range one way or another.

    The right side of the screen of the Dell 9300 I bought three years ago is very dim, with a burned out florescent light, so I can't wait for a bright LED screen myself!

    Yay, I'm back! :D

    Well, actually I'm in New Jersey, after a 12 hour car trip...

    So on the 12 Cell battery, I get 1:30 when playing portals on power saving mode, everything off (had to take a break every few minutes so that it wouldn't overheat, the fan was turned off too).
    Going idle on High Performance givews me about 2:00. BatteryBar didn't change my "full lifetime" reading from 2:00 after I changed it to power saving mode, but it gave me 0:42 left at 17% battery while idling, so that calculates to about 4:07. So 4 hours battery life max is fine.

    This battery isn't that great with power saving, even on a 12 cell. It's more meant to be plugged in, I guess...

    Also, the 12 cell battery raises the back of the laptop by around 2cm. That's a bit less than what I said before (I didn't exactly measure it then).

    You can try deleting RECOVERY after making recovery DVDs.
    The recovery partition does the same thing as the DVDs. It restores your laptop to the state that it was in when it came out of the factory, in case you mess up on something. If you have the DVDs, you won't need the partition.

    Look at this link; it shows tells you exactly what to do to a clean install of Windows: Laptop Out-Of-The-Box Guide 2.0 for Windows 7
    and anyways, you pretty much have it all: just backup your SWSETUP Folder, format the HDD and install it fresh with an installation CD. For the latest drivers you can see this thread: Latest Drivers for DV6t-Quad

    1. Got the computer in and getting ready to set it up. I have created restore discs and was about to start wiping it out and stating from scratch when I noticed my score of 5.5. I checked each item and my memory is the low score of 5.5. It seems most others the HD is the low score and the memory is one of the top. Any suggestions? I dont like the mem being low score.

    2. As for the screen.. I have no problem with it at all. I do not see what others are complaining about so Im wondering if maybe there was a bad batch. I would say its because Im easy to please but thats far from true.

    3. I have the swsetup backed up for when I do my clean install. How will access things such as the bluray player to reinstall? I know I want to have my bluray player working and win7 alone will not do it.

    Hi
    When I connect my dv6t Quad it to my projector using HDMI, I can only get 1080 i.

    How do I get 1080 p output? I thought these were the "entertainment" laptops. Is the best possible only 1080i?

    ps. No issues with projector or cable. They support all possible resolutions.

    Regards

    If you bought a draft n wifi you will have an INTEL 5100 , if you bough b/g you will have an Athoros wifi.

    Or you can check Device Manager , under Network Adaptors

    Ok my daughter loves this laptop. I noticed the shape of the remote and figured out quickly that you can store it in the side of the laptop.. I think thats cool.

    I figured out my 5.5 score on memory. I thought I had checked the first time I booted but apparently not. Only 2 gb was showing. I removed the back cover, reseated both memory sticks and rebooted. Boy you can really see a difference in performance just on boot. Everything was ready to go much quicker. Now showing 4 gigs and my score went to 5.7, with HDD being the low score.

    I have seen some issues though. We set the fingerprint scanner for my daughter. It works great but noticed that after locking the system then coming back to get back on, the fingerprint scanner is showing as not detected. We actually have to click on that option, wait a second, then it shows up as being detected. Should not have to do this. I was expecting to only have to walk up, scan and go.

    Bluray movie we tried was coraline and it looked amazing. We tried the 3D version as well with glasses and it was funny when we both pulled our heads back when the needle is showing coming towards you.

    Still looking for input on the bluray player. I have not wiped the system yet but plan to ONLY if I will be able to reinstall whatever software plays the bluray movies and keep the remote control functions. So anyone that can tell me if that is going to be possible or not I would appreciate it. I went ahead and backed up the whole swsetup folder rather than just the drivers. I figured if I wanted the bluray player it was probably in there.

    As for the battery.. this laptop will stay plugged in probably 95% of the time but I want the battery to remain in good shape for as long as possible. So in that case should I just remove the battery instead and put in place to charge whenever we know we will be using it on battery power?

    Open up Device manager (Click start - type in "device manager") and find "validity sensor" under Biometric Devices open it. Click on the Power Management tab and uncheck "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power".

    I don't have it installed so i have no way of knowing if it works, but my guess is your computer turns it off to save power when it goes to suspend mode. Should fix the prob.

    Hey glad to hear the gift is appreciated! Thats a great movie to see, awesome 3D experience to have at home. Ill try to answer the questions to which I know the answer to.

    Im not using that HP software at all since I dont own any movies (weird, I know) But after I swiped the system I did find the HP Mediasmart drivers on the HP website. Have a look, im sure the features youre using will be found there. Be sure that its your model.

    Here ya go, if you dont like reading much I suggest you read the end carefully.
    It contains great tips on batterylife prolongation.

    This only goes for lithium-ion batteries though..
    Im quite certain that our DV6 batteries are just that. Not 100% though.
    If someone could confirm that? Thanks.
