Does this seem to be the consensus on the battery times? Especially the high capcity 56-Whr battery? I just got an Envy 15 and the battery lasts about 1.5 hours. I also have the slice but that almost doubles the weight and is kind of clumsy to use. I'm considering exchanging it and getting the i7 DV6t, but battery life is the big concern. I don't want the big 12-cell battery though.

Yes, those battery life indications are painfully correct.

Thanks for sharing! This is outragous isnt it? Why did HP do that?
Any technicians have any idea? And is there the possibility that HP will make it possible to upgrade the soft/firm-ware?

lol.. its the overclocked version, correct? That would mean, that it wont last as long due to the extra heat its producing?
Unless u replace the thermal paste.. right? But who does that anyways...

    The 230 also has 16 more shaders than the 320, (320 has 32, 230 has 48)
And I have emailed them a few times about a bios update to fix it, they said they are apparently working on it. Hopefully it comes out soon.

what are the benchmark differences between the two video cards? Even though it doesn't mean much, did the WEI for video drop with the 320 from the 230?

Well I can say that a couple of HP tech support agents verified it.

And about the WEI difference, I think it would drop, but maybe by like .3-.4
And benchmark differences, from the specs it just looks like its a renamed version of the gt120m maybe a little underclocked. From that point of view the gt 320m should get around 9400 in 3dmark05 and the gt 230m should get around 10700 in it.

    Hey,
I am thinking of purchasing HP DV-6 2060ea with the following configuration:

    Intel® Core™ processor i7-720QM
    1.60 GHz, Level 2 cache 6 MB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M Up to 2815 MB total graphics memory with 1 GB dedicated DDR3
15.6” Diagonal High Definition HP LED Brightview Display
    Display Resolution: 1366 x 768
500 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm
    4096 MB (2 x 2048 MB) (Supports up to 8 GB DDR3 memory)
    120 W AC Power Adapter
    6-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery

and was thinking about heating issues, battery life, screen quality and built quality. Are there any issues that should be taking into consideration? any thoughts/suggestions?

I am a proud owner of HP zt300. Got it in 2004 and it's still kicking, but is able to handle only Windows XP. Had unpleasant experience when power jack got loose and was not able to supply power(got repaired under warranty). However, I am still considering to stick with HP. So, What do you think about listed issues above?

ps. I will be using it mainly for web, e-mail, multitasking and some gaming since as far as I know it can handle latest games as well.

@dreadlord369: games are my secondary concern....
I am looking more into heating, battery and build quality aspects of HP dv6. The reason I am asking is that many points out that dv6 feels cheap and assembling quality is not that great... So I was wondering if someone (actual owner) could share his/her thoughts on above mentioned issues.

I don't think it feels weak, as long as you take decent care of it you should be fine. Its definitely better than my old dell inspiron but its not as solid as my cousin's latitude(well those are meant to be tanks so I really don't think I can compare them :)). The battery life, well, since I have the 12 cell, I get around 4-4.5 hours, and the 6 cells, one of the previous posts(a page or two back) detailed the time they should get(I believe the normal one got around 2 hours and I forgot the high capacity one's time). As for heat, there is no issue with me, but that is maybe because the 12 cell raises the laptop a slight bit allowing for better airflow. But I don't think there should be too much a problem with heat.

    Cuz theyre cheapasses.. :(

Would loved this screen in a higher resolution.. you can force it though nvidia software but it says it may do damage to the screen.

And the build quality isnt superb, but since you arnt getting the first badge of dv6t quads.. i think they improved quality a lot since that time.

Heat should be fine, just make sure to let it breathe!! With no execption.

Heating is a bit of an issue actually .Mine hits 90C while gaming and kinda slows down the system, even after keeping a cooling fan underneath it (Idle temp ~47).The funny part is that the CPU is only 20% utilized (which goes to show the potential) . But here's a trick I found which helps cooling .. Eject the battery and place a cooling fan under it . Any cooling fan is useless on this laptop without this ,unless there is somebody here with better luck .

    This is my first post.

I am happy owner of DV6T quad. This is my first lappy too. First thing that I did was, I removed the factory windows 7 and installed windows 7 ultimate. Also removed the recovery partition :D

    1. Well I just wanna know how long do I have to charge my laptop? As in, Can I use the laptop on AC supply all the time? or do I have to disconnect the charger and run on battery when the battery shows 100%? or to be specific how do i get a good battery life in the long run?

    2. Which is the best tool to monitor the temperatures? and what are the optimum temperature levels?

    3. I usually place the laptop on the mattress and operate. As a result the bed gets really hot. I dont care abt the mattress though :p.. I just wanna know is it harmful to the laptop in anyways?

    Thanks :)

There are no ways to get more pixels than your screen has. Forcing a bigger resolution works on CRT screens but not on LCD or plasma.

    1. You can use your laptop plugged or not. More you charge you battery, more you wear it. Many years ago, it was advised to disconnect the charger once the battery was charged. Today, any electronic product knows when the battery is charged and "tells" the charger to don't charge anymore.

    2. Real Temp is working well. There are many settings.

    3. Electronic products and specially the computers doesn't like to run hot. Even if the CPU is designed to get high temps, the others parts are not. So try to keep your laptop as cool as you can if you want to keep it long time.

You mean the f.13 bios? If so then yea, I have it on my laptop right now. When you do the flash, make sure you are plugged in, that there is nothing else open, and that you let it do its job. When I flashed it, it restarted and stayed off for like a minute then it turned back on. Also for some reason when mine turned back on, it said that the computer turned off because of a heat issue but I ignored it and it booted up fine. Thats all I got to say good luck :D

Do you have a picture to see how does it look?

Last time i pushed the refresh rate of a LCD screen was with my Vaio using Powerstrip (it wasn't to get more pixels, i was just surprised to see this option and tried). 2 days later my screen was dead (maybe just a coincidence but i don't want to try anymore)

Ok heres a kingston limited to 1.5 on the left and 3.0 on the right..
Also i read that on laptops that Even though the chipset is capable of handling SataII speeds, it is limited to SataI speeds by HP due to data corruption at SataII speeds when operating the harddrive in conjunction with the expansion bay.Is there a workaround to this?

It shouldn't ask you anything... You are using the right utility from HP right?
If so you should just be able to hit the flash button and it should read the information automatically.

Hey Khaleidseif, are you still enjoying our wonderful machine? I dont get this driver thing though?
Have you installed the Intel i7 Uitility? Its a gadget when you can read off your actual clockspeed.
I never reaches the full 2,8? But it does go as high as 2,6.
Its good enough for me.. less stress means a longer lifespan.
Or am I missing out BIGTIME for not pursuing this driver thingy?

Well, Ive no clue, SSD is like.. freakin' expensive here.
The dude who brought it up did say he emailed HP. I suggest you do the same?

Maybe share the email address here so others could complain?
Hell, if youre really aching for the SSD you could even make a topic where you'll post an email concerning the issue, directed at HP.

Just make members mail it to HP, im sure someone will get a response?

And btw, last night i freaked out and was at the brink of formatting due to this error:

It kept me from opening any folder. Initially I thought it was a virus.. turns out after rebooting it jus went away?
I dont want anyone having the same experience as mine so spread the word, lol

    Hi
I heard that, we can use a memory card to put into dv6t slot, to make use of readyboost.
Does it really help with a 4 GB Ram system?

It is a good machine, from this forum, we can judge that it, relatively speaking, has far less problems than the more expensive one.

I installed the driver but it is not installed properly in the driver's tab. The turbo boost gadget showed upto 2.63GHz which is very good as 2.8 is a theoretical number as much as the 13x multiplier for the full load, both will hardly show up for more than a split of a second that any monitoring software will likely to miss.

    Enjoy the notebook. :)

When I emailed HP they said they forwarded the problem to the BIOS department.

    Heres the email address:
    [email protected]
    Let the complaints fly :mad2:

Not really, if you have over 1 GB of ram, it makes no difference at all.
And it especially won't help cause we have 4 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3.
Hell it might actually slow it down...

    Yep.

It Can go up to 2.8 BUT, only on a single threaded app. What will happen is that the other three cores will be disabled and that one core will be pumped up to 2.8
In multi-threaded apps, I believe the max is 2.6. I mean right now, I have like 45 tabs open in google chrome (not kidding) and the speed is hovering around 2.5-2.6 (I use CPU-Z as a speed monitor)

Wow, I love the multi-quote feature.

I've had nothing but trouble. I've gone through two of these models. And will soon be on my third after today. Somehow or another the pc either locks up after updating or fails to boot correctly. I went from Windows Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate and last night (After a day and a half of use) it chooses to boot with a black screen(things load and you can hear the sound). The same as the first I received(although with that one, after an HP update it failed to boot at all. I think it was the F15.) Anyhow, I'm not seriously agitated with this, maybe I'm just unlucky. Would updating from Windows 7 HP to Windows 7 Ultimate(retail; one time upgrade not clean install) cause problems like this? In two to three days my box will arrive and I can ship off my brick, unless of course a fix is found.

Um, I think its the upgrade, I would do a clean install if you could. Upgrading is never really the best thing to do and if you can, a clean install would be the best think you could do. Just back up your important stuff on a flash drive or an external hard drive then move it back once the install is done. Oh and don't forget to download the drivers for the laptop and put them on the flash drive also. By the way, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional x64 and everything went fine.
Oh and F.15? Do you mean a BIOS update? If so, where did you find the F.15 bios? The latest I can find is the F.13.

I had a copy of the F.15 from the original they sent me. What's odd is the replacement had F.16. It was signed for January 15 I think. Also, thanks for info on clean install. I used Windows 7 Ultimate one time upgrade option, will I be able to use it again when I get my notebook back? Also, why is the drivers for 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320M so hard to find?

Thanks a lot dreadlord369. The model I've received both times is DV6T-2300. Again thanks for all the stuff, hopefully the third time everything will run smoothly.

Oh for a second I thought that HP had released a new BIOS without putting it on their site. Alright man, good luck.
