Okay, other than the screen, which I can get used to, I love this notebook.

The gaming performance is great... I can run Borderlands on all high at 1366x768 and I experience zero lag.

So from reading all the threads so far, I've gathered that

    1) This laptop is totally awesome for the price it was worth

    2) The LED screen sucks because of quality, lack of black contrast, and interlacing issue

How's the weight? The spec said around 6.37lbs and approx 1.4" thick?

I changed the gamma, and it made a big impact on blacks, they look much better now (but not amazing). I also set the digital vibrance in the NVIDIA Control Panel to 50 and it made colors look much better. The total weight of the shipped box was 10.4 lbs. I would say that the notebook does meet the 6.37 lbs without the power adapter, but if you add the power adapter it adds almost 1 lb of weight to it. The thickness seems right. Right now, my only beef with the notebook is how the screen looks interlaced, but I want to believe it will lose that effect as the screen is burnt in.

Guys I screwed up... and I need some help on how to fix it...

I tried to do an upgrade from Windows 7 Home P to Windows 7 Professional edtion.
Anyway I got it from digital river. So during install it said that I could not go from Win 7 HP to Win 7 Pro.... It did offer the choice of a fresh install and I took it...

Now my problem is that I checked the Windows Index and said my ratings were 1.0.. I need to know how to fix this please.. the reason why it got that low because of graphics and gaming graphics.

Please show me how to fix this.. I included the print screen to show you guys...

    Thanks in advance...

You need to install the graphics drivers. Download the graphics drivers from the drivers thread then extract the CAB to a folder. Go to Device Manager, right click Standard VGA Adapter under Display Devices, click Update Driver, click the bottom option twice, then click Have Disk and select the INF in the folder you extracted the CAB to.

How did you get such a high score on your hard drive? My hard drive is what drags my WEI score down to a 5.8. I have the 7200 rpm drive too.

Anyway, after a lot of adjusting this screen, I think I may get used to it. I still have to get over the lower resolution as well.

Other than that, this thing performs great. I played Medieval II: Total War on it, and it's a drastic improvement over my dv9000t. I maxed out all the graphics options with with 2x AA, and then created a custom battle with THOUSANDS of archers. Usually my dv9000t would chug when I tried this on my old machine. I turned on the flaming arrows, and it was cool seeing thousands of arrows being lobbed back and forth.

The keyboard isn't that bad. It's a little on the "clicky" side, but the textured keys are similar to my old notebook, and I liked my old keyboard. I don't think I would've liked the glossy keys on the other dv6's cuz they would probably start looking like crap really quick.

The two mouse buttons really suck..way too "clicky". But the mouse pad works pretty good. My finger actually slides around a little better than on my old one. The reflective surface does not bode well for fingerprints though.

It's a shame the screen is so underwhelming when you first turn this thing on. It gives a quick negative impression on an otherwise great performing laptop so far.

    Another gaming update:
At native resolution, I can play COD4 on all high (textures at extra) with 4xAA and 16xAF. I can play L4D on all high (textures at very high) with 2xAA and 4xAF (possibly higher AA and AF, but I didn't try because it looked fine to me).

I am curious about this as well.

Okay So I installed the graphics driver so everything on that is fine...

Now I noticed that my recovery partition is missing. so is the cyberlink dvd program.

Now here is the main issue. in system and security, it said that I needed to install a driver for my infrared reciever and something called JMB38X MS SD SD/MMC xd Card Reader...

Now I'm hoping someone will explain this to me... and guide me through the process kinda... Like Dumb it down so I can understand....Please.... here is a pic of what was shown..:

It sounds like you wiped your Recovery partition when you did a clean install. You can only make Recovery discs PRIOR to doing a clean install. Now your only choice is to look for ISOs or order Recovery discs from HP. Sorry. :(

okay I searched the web... and I found these instructions:

So I did that and I was able to retrieve the recovery manager that way and it works.

So now I'm just gonna use the windows anytime upgrade that is on the computer and just enter my key that way. that would be the best route for me.

My mistake, I should have mentioned I put an OCZ vertex SSD drive in the dv6t when I received it (I couldn't take my my WEI being dragged down).

This laptop really is pretty quick, I just can't fit all my work on the screen at once which is frustrating. I figure if I grabbed the envy I would have more resolution to work with in a smaller form factor.

Hey guys I just ordered mine~~

thanks for the coupon! saved me another 200 dollars!
I got the laptop for 950 plus tax I think it's a great deal

The question is it says to be built by 11/10, I ordered with the free shipping(5-7 days)

This is just an estimate, does HP usually sends the product faster or slower than it estimates?

Does anyone know if it comes with that mini remote control (without TV tuner option)?
and which battery option is the best? (except 12 cell)
What are the 3dmark06 scores after all the bloatware is removed?
Can it run nba 2k10 and gta 4 at 1366x768?

    Greetings!

I am about to buy my first laptop coming from a desktop life.
I think its pretty cool to have a community such as this one, thanks for your answers!

The new dv6t looks very good, but I would like to ask for your opinions on a few issues:

Context: I would use the laptop for: Work: heavy and large size photoshop, mild video editing mild 3d editing. Gaming: heavy Second life gaming and production.

1- Is the 6GB Ram option worth it at this time? do you think it will be easy/cheap to upgrade ram later on, from 4GB upwards? like I said, I believe i need a lot of ram for photo and 3d rendering, and I am not sure if 4Gb ram is enough.

2- Anyone has an experience with second life or 3d editing?

3- Any advise on whether buying something higher than the 6cell battery is worth it?

4- and most importantly, I am considering the dv6tquad in contrast to a lenovo 550 with 2.6Ghz processor and 6MBram. Do you think the 1.6ghzquad is really superior to a 2.6ghzcore 2 duo?

5- finnaly, a different issue, how does one go about outputting from the laptop to two separate monitors?

Thank you everyone for your opinions!!

The lenovo is found with the 15% coupon at http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=1E2D8518B7794868A14C5680E9B35C96

The HP is found at the HP store with the $200 coupon

i have the 720 and a 12 cell and i clocked somewhere between 5 and 6 hours on light load. however if you push the laptop the battery just disappeares. i also have the f.04 bios and it iritates the hell out of me, i would much prefer a dual boot using linux as primary. i also never encountered any of the banding issues with the screen, as far as image quality its almost as good as my desktop pannel however a lower pixel pitch. the keyboard seems like its one of the better ones ive come across on a laptop, think i may still prefer the old thinkpads. but it is nice and solid with minimal flex and is easy to type on. my only real complaints are the quality of the speakers and the weird bios. yes the display could be of higher resolution but it isn't essential to me. With that said ill keep it till the end of my returnable date and if there isn't a fix for the bios ill probably send it back and look elsewhere. for an i7 laptop

It came out to $918.99 w/o tax. Can't wait to get it, the only things I'm concerned about are the keyboard and the "black levels" on the screen, hopefully mine does not have a subpar screen or anything.

    Hello
How about RAM? have many of you chosen the 6GB choice over 4GB? what do you find enough?

for photoshop, video editing and live 3d rendering I wonder how much difference does the "6 or 4" ram issue makes, when having a 1.6ghz i7?what do you think?

4GB should be plenty I would think. As you can see above not one single person that I saw has posted that they bothered going above 4GB. That seems to be the sweet spot for Vista/7. Although the rule I always go by is you can NEVER get too much RAM. Especially in Vista and 7 because they don't waste any of it by using the excess as a cache storage.

It seems pretty good to me. My usual test is to pick it up by a corner and see if it creeks/flexes and this one did not.(Not very scientific I know lol) The screen seems very sturdy as well. The supports holding it up are pretty solid. The keypad as stated by others has kind of a weird feel and the whole laptop including the keyboard is a fingerprint magnet. Also the touchpad keys seem to have a pretty loud click to me. It is not that noticeable in every day use, but if you are sitting in a silent classroom it is noticeable.

By the way, I'm also wondering about the temperature of the laptop. Could you tell me the temperatures when idle and when under load?

I haven't noticed it getting that hot, but then again I don't use it in my lap and I am running integrated graphics.

Found this forum "after" I bought it, now I have some reservation on the screen... Should I have purchased the "N" wireless card? & it sounds like the keyboard may be another issue. $914 free shipping before tax with the stackable discount code. I'm not a gamer, but use for business, internet, photo-editing. I know that this is a fast laptop, but why did you guys purchase this above the others with i7-720QM? For this pricepoint it seemed to be the best value out there.
