It's definitely a plane. A boat would take alot longer to get here.
Or would it? I'm not sure.

This is nuts! Gotta love the internet. :D And I'm pretty sure (and hope) it's a plane. No way it's getting to Seattle July 13th by boat, let alone Maryland.

I'm seeing a couple different shipping weights though. Mine says 4.4 kg/9.7 lbs.

Yea depends on what you got, I7 cores get the 120w power brick which weighs more, and then depending on what components you got inside then you vary. Like SSD is lighter than an HDD.

Seems like I have the heaviest laptop around. 4.7 kg :D.

Also how do you know where your laptop is headed?

Edit: Probably meant your current location then, never mind. I thought you guys were talking about about drop-off zones. I'm in St. Louis, Missouri. The middle of freaking nowhere.

According to jumpseat, it flies through Memphis before heading into LAX. That's kind of... a long roundtrip.

    Come here by tomorrow, please.

Not sure how completely accurate their site is but it's better than nothing.

    Kansas International?

Time is in Lima (Peru). It says July 9 but from what I gather from yesterday's search it seems to be around the same time every day.

I thought the time was in ZULU/GMT. Isn't that the standard time for the entire world?

And it looks to me that mine will be making a trip to Memphis as well. So we'll all be on the same flight again.

My guess is about 3-4 hours before the flight to Memphis. I just got an update:

Jul 8, 2010 22:20 GMT In transit ANCHORAGE, AK

It arrived at AK around 9:00pm GMT The next flight to Memphis departs at 11:50pm GMT. Shouldn't be much longer.

I have a question for those with the touchscreen. Does it work with a stylus? Because I really would like to use the touchscreen to take notes on during math classes.

It's capacitative, but there are styluses out there that are usable on such screens. However, writing on the screen on such an altitude and angle must be extremely troublesome and slow, not to mention inaccurate.

    What's wrong with typing?

Ah I guess that's out of question then. Capacitive styluses (styli?) aren't the most accurate in the world. I have an HD2 with a capacitive screen and demos I've seen for compatible styli don't work all that well.

I'll type when it's only text, but when it comes to graphs and 3D geometry, I'd rather draw them right on the screen (using OneNote or something).

So I looked some more and Jumpseat finder gets even more trickier.

PVG to LAX nets only Memphis as the middle point.

So I tracked between ANC and LAX and it turns out there's another route between Anchorage and LAX at Oakland.

    Confirmed by Morx's FedEx shipping.

I think it depends on the plane being used. For FedEx to fly from Shanghai to Memphis on a single leg, that would require a very long-distance plane like the 777 freighters. If it flew to Anchorage first, that would mean it's probably an MD-11 cargo plane.

But I'm not sure about flights out of Memphis. But some number cruncher somewhere in FedEx must've found a way to make an extra trip to Memphis worthwhile.

Is a signature required for delivery? I had some HP speakers delivered today, which were supposedly left by the front door, but now they're gone. I hope they're more careful with the laptop...

International Economy Distribution - Indirect Signature Required

From their tracking it says that they do need a signature or you can leave one on the front door (risky).

The keyboard looks nice, but thats where is ends for me. I find the keyboard island has far to large spaces between the keys, thus I miss hitting some keys.
The worst thing about this keyboard is that they put a bunch of shortcut keys down the left hand side, and the caps lock key is further in, I find that I am forever hitting the caps lock key on and off when typing which is a nightmare!

So I looked around for size first, I wanted something large for viewing and not small like a netbook for college, so somewhere around 14-16 inches sounded reasonable.
I looked and loved the slim look of the Dv6tSE, even tho pictures on this website made it clear that this was more a trick to the eyes. The weight of this laptop is not a big issue, its fine really.
The price on it was fine for a decent speed computer, I bought it after reading some comments on this forum.

I dont have a lot of insight on computers as much as I think I do, I fix my computers as a hobby all the time but know very little about hardware specs.
I felt i bought this off the bat but I don't have regrets now that it's been 2 days since i ordered mine.

    My specs are
Hp Pavilion Dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC
*Genuine Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    *Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-840QM processor (1.86GHz, 8MB l3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2Ghz
*FREE upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
*FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200PRM SATA with Hp ProtectionSmart Hard Drive Protection
*1GB ATI Mobility Radeon (TM) HD 5650 Graphics + HDMI and VGA ports - For Quad Core Processors
*15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
*No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
*SuperMulti 8x DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    *Intel Wireless-N Card
*Full-size island-style backlit Keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
*9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (over-sized)
    *Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
*$1! SAVE NOW!! Northon Internet Security(TM) 2010 -15 Month Subscription (activation required)
*FREE upgrade to Computrade LoJack for laptop, Four Years from One Year
*HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

I feel this laptop will be very hot and the battery may run-out too fast now that i think about it.
    The Intel Core i7 840QM (uses 45 Watts = hot/battery hog)
    7200 RPM HDD ( 7200 RPM = Hot)
Backlit (may produce more heat and drain battery, glad i can turn it off if needed.)

I had to get the loJack since my brother got his first laptop stolen 6 month ago.
And now I do regret not getting touch screen since i didnt know it support some aspect of multi-touch.

I will post again when I see how long my laptop runs and maybe temp if i find something to see the internal temp monitors.

I just hope it will last be more than 4 hrs for classes/ research each day.

Do you know how long your DV6tse stayed in AK before it departed?

It can vary, but I think most of us here had ours ship two days before the estimate. So yours might ship on the 13th and could take about four to six days to reach the destination.

Battery life is poor under load with i7 and reasonable if just doing light tasks.

Keep in mind the i7 has double the amount of cores and cache than the i5 :)

Hey Guys... After following this thread closely while my laptop was on the way I decided to get an account today. Well I just wanted to let everyone know that I received my HP DV6T SE today, and unfortunately it came with minor scratches inside on the chasis, but I have OCD so I called HP and I'm gonna get a replacement.

Few things I wanted to point out:

    1) the Touchscreen is AWESOME
    2) the computer is lighting fast with a i7
    3) The computer does get hot on the left side of the trackpad, and it kinda bothers me, not too hot but it's hot on left and cold on side so it's kinda weird. So if someone has an SDD and can tell me how hot/cold it is, I would appreciate it
    4) the island style keyboard is very nice, I kinda have to get used to having weird shorcuts on the left side but I still like the keyboard a lot
    5) The trackpad I like it but I still have to get used to all the gestures it supports

Overall I'm really happy with the computer I just wished that the left side wouldn't get hot and that the fan wouldn't be noisy at times :/

oh and one last thing I have both the 6 cells and 9 cell battery and the 9 Cell laster me 2 hours and a half with a skype call going on, pandora on, and brightness around 50% I think that's pretty good for what I was doing
