Nah. Mine better fly directly down here to Oakland.

    Then to LAX.

    Then delivered.

    In just one day.

    :(

Oh and report back on how well BC2 runs on this thing. From benchmarks, I gather that it'll run high without any AA/AF on this screen size, given that it's only 720p.

Has anyone tried Modern Warfare 2 on high settings yet? Or Age of Empires 3 (not exactly demanding, but this is a mid-level graphics card)?

According to Notebook Check the 5650 runs MW2 around 40 on high at 1366 x 768. Though since they ran some form of AF and AA I'm guessing it'll be somewhere around the 50 range.

And that probably means age of empires will probably not lag.

Aren't RTS games like AoE quite dependent on CPU as well?

Yeah, RTS are pretty dependent on CPU.

But AoE is like 5 years old? I'm guessing that an i5 should be able to handle it decently well.

    Time for Starcraft 2

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 right now on my desktop and it runs AoE on max settings just fine. And from what I've seen, the i5-450M outperforms it in benchmarks.

    At least I hope so...

With how cheap, powerful, and well-built this is, I'm surprised it's not more popular. I'm loving my dv6tse. It runs cool even in my 85-90 degree room.

I will probably end up doing a fresh install within a couple of hours and then I'll post some benchmarks and first thoughts.

Will probably buy a 160 GB SSD next month or a Momentus XT since they seem to be pretty good, it all depends on how hot the left side where the harddrive is with this 5400 RPM.

CA tax bumped it $100 + $16 recycle fee.

Has anyone gotten word on whether or not they can go pick it up from Fedex before a scheduled delivery? I ask because mine's not scheduled for delivery until Wednesday, but it's in my city. Similar to I think some others here.

I guess I will just call Fedex and see what they will allow. No way I'll wait until Wednesday for something I can go pick up in 20 minutes.

Edit: I just called Fedex and they said that you can call and have them hold the package to be held in the station. By tomorrow it should be in at my local fedex facility where I can go pick it up. This makes me happy as I have until Wednesday off. I'd of hated to have to wait until my last day off to get the package.

Now, just my luck, it'll sit in Phoenix for the next 2 days, literally 20 minutes away before coming to Scottsdale, 20 minutes away. Ug.

Some have while others say they need to attempt a deliver before you can go pick it up. It might be regional, so it's best your local FedEx to find out.

True, and Oregon's income tax isn't as progressive as I'd like, certainly (it hits the top marginal rate at way too low a threshold). Still I prefer income to sales taxes on principle, especially if the latter don't cover services (more likely to be used by the more prosperous) as well as goods. Also, a lot of the time they've tried to foist a sales tax on us here, they say things like "it won't be levied on necessities." Last time I checked, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, razors, basic clothing and shoes were pretty much necessities, and those are always taxed under such schemes. F that sh*t. It's just a way for the fatcats to shift the tax burden off of themselves and onto people who make less money--study after study has shown that state sales taxes fall hardest on the working poor. They're a cancer.

Anyway, rant over. Supposedly my lappy is coming on the 15th, but it's stuck in China over this weekend.

I have a question I'm planning on doing a clean wipe of hard drive after doing system recovery disks, and then later reinstalling win7pro.. However if I need a hp software like for tech support where can I get it? Also what about touchscreen drivers??

Any possible conflicts i might encounter?
Also can I bring back everything with system rec. disks after? Do they provide key with shipped win7pro?

Follow the out of the box guide Sticky'ed on these forums for instructions. It gives instructions on how to preserve your Win7 key, as otherwise you will be forced some time down the line to call MS's automated line to verify your copy of Windows.

Also, tells you many programs you can un-install and how to do that in case you didn't want to do the clean install, but rather just uninstall most stuff.

The recovery disks don't require a key. Or at least all the ones from hp i got were just a prompt do you want to restore with a nice little hp gui and then after 30mins i had a factory machine again.

Here's what i got from HP last night:
HP is aware of the customs delay and is cooperating with U.S. Customs to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. All required paperwork has been completed and is now being processed. Please check your FedEx tracking number for updates. FedEx will deliver your notebook as soon as possible once U.S. Customs has released the shipment. We apologize for the delay. For your information there is nothing we can do once there is a customs delay as once the U.S. has control of the shipment, we cannot do anything to expedite things. As mentioned above, HP is aware when this occurs and they do everything required to correct the issue.

I'm crossing my fingers that all of our laptops leaves Anchorage,AK! Still annoying that such a high volume company would not send in the appropriate documents....

Though it might be a little different for others compared to me. My current laptop (the only other I've ever had) is a duo core with integrated graphics lol. I've yet to play any notable PC games.

How many people have actually received this laptop so far? To those who have, have you tried running any games on it for long periods of time? How does it run? Are there any heating issues after long sessions?

    Pink sounds hot :p

As much as I wanted a higher resolution screen I figure my home PC's only running 1680 x 1050 (on a 22" and 20"). Looks like 1366 x 768 will be great for gaming.

I saw a dm4 at Costco as well. There are two things I noticed. One is the above mentioned pink tint that appears to be more severe under fluorscent lighting (most of us know about this, but it's especially noticeable under fluorscent lights). The other is a possible manufacturing defect. I know it's a dm4, but the casing is very similar on the dv6t se, so I urge you guys to check this out.

Not the highest quality photos since I took it from a phone, but the defect is noticeable. The metal part between the hinges appears to be deformed in a wavy pattern:
