Can someone tell me the battery life of a dv6tse with a 9-cell incl. the cheapest i7 and the 5650?
I'm planning to buy one with the 400$ coupon.

Apparently so. 88C isn't that kind of hot?

It's hotter than my i7 and huge 4890.

hey ghost.. yeah i got the free 5-7 day shipper so that's why they cheaped me out haha. I forgot to ask FedEx how long it takes for Customs to clear when they received the documents. She just said the agent working on it, hasn't received any of the documentation necessary so i figured HP didn't do their job!

I think there was one person who had the free 5-7 day shipper that got through AK unscathed. Wish we were in the same boat/plane haha

So I'm guessing from all the heating issues that hp doesn't use thermal grease? If anyone knows for sure please tell because if so I'll just open mine up when I get it and apply my arctic silver 5.

Yea, it's 88 degrees doing some installs, youtube'ing, and playing back high def video all at once. I haven't even tried JC2 or BFBC2 yet, but...might be sending this thing back lol.

they said it could take as long as 30 days. Some other people who had this problem before with HP reported that the delay lasted 6 days, others reported 2 days.
IF u search the web, u'll find a lot of other people has had this problem with HP and Fedex before.

I'm guessing it's hotter (or cooler due to more powerful CPU?) with an i7?

I'm running an I5-450 with ssd. SSD area isn't uncomfortably hot, but the rest of the system seems to be running at high temps doing menial tasks.

I hope hp isn't not putting thermal grease on the components. I mean I heard some companies just use a thermal pad that is like 1000 times less inefficient.

There's always arctic silver if things get too hot. But I'd rather not have to do that on a new laptop.

I might just buy a Arctic Silver 5. I've only used it in a desktop before. How do you use it in a laptop?

I'm guessing dabs in the middle of the CPU and then spread it out into a circle?

30 days?! 6 days?! 2 days?! I did see someone posted that a few pages ago when we all found out our laptops were delayed, but i don't think i saw a resolution date. i won't be able to handle a wait for 30 days.. these are the days i had hookups with the customs office.. let's hope that the escalation i got from HP to their managers will help speed this up.

I think something is wrong with that... I have the 450m and I'm maxing the CPU with wprime and it tops out around 77 - 78 degrees.

You make a live account (or an existing hotmail/msn account).

Go to bing.com (turn off any ad blockers) and search up "hp" or "laptop".

At the top will be something along the lines of HP 30% cashback with a gold coin. Click on it and it'll transport you to a little windows where you input your e-mail, password, and a little captcha.

It'll take you to the site and give you 30% off on your purchase before tax. Unfortunately, unlike some websites like tiger direct which gives you a gold coin notifier on your cart to tell you that it's working, HP doesn't tell you. To insure that it does go through, just take a picture of the 30% cashback (and if you happened to not take one, someone in the Envy 14's huge thread probably took one - in fact I saw like 3).

The cashback totals are displayed in a bing cashback account section which is accessible via your e-mail.

Two runs of 3dMark06, three of Cinebench R10, Passmark's performance test, playing KOTOR for about an hour, and then IntelBurn Test five times; in that order. After the runs of 3dMark06 the processor hit 60C and then started to cool down; didn't go past that during Cinebench, Passmark, or KOTOR; and then I started IntelBurn Test with it at 52C before giving it a chance to cool down all the way and it shot up to 64C during the first two runs and then leveled out at 62C. There was no throttling, all 4 cores ran at 2.0GHz throughout the testing.

It generally build a day or two fastest so it'll probably be shipped around the 19th.

With that said, the wait time is almost always a week. My June 29 order didn't ship until July 7.

Did a bunch of back to back Furmark tests while playing with 5650 oc a little bit and the cpu / gpu never went about 70*C. I'll keep playing with it, but...it's kinda scary i guess.

    Eh, what?

Shouldn't FurMark push it up to like 100C given that your previous tasks only pushed you up to like 85C?

With that said, the awesome free Amazon Prime deal netted me a $10 laptop cooler (I used a $10 gift card). So my temps should be more manageable if mine turns into a huge heat sink. Ironically, it's coming here on Wednesday - probably earlier than the laptop itself =/

I have no idea what's going on with this laptop lol. After clearing the min/max value of 96*C, I started running FurMark nonstop while raising the 5650's core and memory speeds. After that, it never went about 70-75 ish. GPU-z said my max temp was 72*C and FurMark was telling me the 5650 was at 71*C for one test. Dunno what's going on. The CPU itself never went past 75*C while doing the nonstop furmark tests.

It melted the thermal pad. Thats how they work.
Its a pad and then once it gets hot it melts to make a puddy like.
But its not really like a thermal pad its more like a paste thats with the pad you know the white stuff when you open up a factory computer.

Well given that you didn't burn your hands and the fact that I don't wanna think bad things about my new laptop, I'm going to stick with the 70C temps. :)

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Machine didn't get hot or anything like that which is kind of neat. The heat from the vent will grill chicken though.

Pic 1: Maybe 20 seconds after finishing the tests.
Pic 2: Second pic during the tests.
Pic 3: First pic during the tests.

    Also, says 520m, but I'm running 450m.

No easy hard drive backup for me. Going to just have to do a clean install. Not too worried about it though. After the last time, I've learned where a lot of the drivers are and so it should be pretty snappy to get everything up and running.

Maybe this time I'll actually get the finger print reader working again.

Well, let's just say I killed the default install. It wouldn't load into windows. haha

I just booted off a Win7 install disc, and so I'm in the process of a clean install right now. I'll post a video here in a minute of them booting up at the same time.
