I'm patching up BFBC2 right now, apparently it takes forever. After that, will run on my oc'd settings and will check heat.

You overclocked your dv6tse?
-
Just the 5650.
-
Temps? 80C+? Or higher? And if the intel is rated at 105C what about the other parts in the computer?
-
Did anyone received a wireless card that doesn't support 802.11a or limited 802.11n compatibility??
-
-
Oc'ing was just for fun ha ha. I think I'm at 600 core and 875 memory. Btw, something happened to my BFBC2 key and it got deactivated so...so much for that. Going to try JC2, DoW2, and Borderlands i guess.

Just the angles, I get the feeling your getting but then I looked closely.
-
Just you. I promise they are the same size.
Just did a video of boot up times, and I'm not very pleased. Lol. The mechanical drive actually beat it by a long shot. Then I did another one, and the SSD started out slower, and then kicked .
This is on a fresh install, and was my first time after driver updates restarting the computer, so maybe there was something to do with that? -
Quick question...
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 Graphics + HDMI and VGA ports - For Quad Core Processors
Does the latter have switchable graphics as well? o_o
EDIT: Also, the ATI Switchable is a manual switch, right? (Besides when it's not plugged in) As opposed to Nvidia's auto-switch -
The second one, for quad core, has no switchable graphics, and the first one is an auto switch from unplugging your ac adaptor, but i think you can switch it back under the power management settings.

just ordered my dv6tse! can't wait.

Video of restarting the 2 side by side. Sorry for bad quality.. can't find my USB connector for my phone so had to go with the MMS low video quality so I could email it to myself.
Left side is i5-450m, 6gb RAM, SSD
Right side is i5-430m, 4gb RAM, 7200rpm 500gb

Don't worry when I get mine I'll post some nice 8-megapixel pics =) And some benches. And maybe a few videos, crysis and codmw2.

Maybe an additional a few weeks to more, to find the current specs doesn't match the checkout specs.
Unless you can help me by telling me what wireless network card that is on your dv6t se?
After 6 hours of customer support that my dv6t is considered to be defective since it didn't support 802.11a or 802.11n @5Ghz -
Ah that's unfortunate =\. I was hoping ATI had something parallel to Nvidia's Optimus feature
-
Old one got closed up and is sad, but it's about to go back!
New one, all shiny and new!
-
They will in the latter half of this year. As of now, it's only manual switching.
Though I don't really mind. -
Well my dv6t se WAS supposed to arrive tomorrow. Now I'm guessing by the end of the week.
-
-
Well, technically it's already the latter half of this year, right?
-
Alright, fine, 4th quarter
And if FedEx tracking is saying what it's saying, the laptops are not coming by tomorrow. My Oakland flight was at 5 PM Alaskan time. If it doesn't come tomorrow... I won't be here anyways. woot. -

I hope somehow a miracle happens and overnight FedEx gets my package to the local facility. And delivers it tomorrow. Or even if its at the place tomorrow I'll go pick it up. I hope I don't have to wait until Wednesday or possibly Thursday thats retarded.
-
I'm just surprised that HP and FedEx haven't sorted this out over the years...

haha windows fanboy here.

I was playing around with the dv6t at Best Buy today, and noticed a potential issue with the trackpad. I usually sit with my finger on the left clicker section of the trackpad, but with this laptop, that is registering for the mouse, and messing up movement. Is there any software available that could allow me to disable this? Not a major deal, but I am trying to weigh out every minor detail when getting a laptop for college.
-
From the Envy 14 thread (it looks like they all share the same trackpad) you can set different zones on the trackpad to ignore touches on a specific section - i.e. the clicker.
Unfortunately, I don't remember how and I don't have my notebook either. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you do it in the touchpad settings somewhere.
control panel, mouse settings, touchpad tab, go from there -
HP has a driver update that disables the "touch" of the button area when you are using the main portion. I updated tonight and it definitely helps.
-
Figured how to take everything apart, I didn't make a video or anything but let me just tell you it SUCKS . This was my first time ever taking apart a laptop and its so unbeliable ty. You think you're about to break parts off your laptop but thats just normal haha. Let me tell you, HP or the manufacturer that puts on the thermal pad/paste does a completely TY JOB. Have fun taking apart your laptop and applying paste.. I advise you just to buy a fan :\. I will post temps with IC Diamond tomorrow.
-
-
This is really urgent someone please reply, it says that
The thermal material must be thoroughly cleaned from the surfaces of the fan/heat sink
assembly and the system board each time the fan/heat sink assembly is removed. Thermal paste is
applied to the fan/heat sink assembly to correspond with components on the system board as
follows: the processor (1) and (2), the Northbridge chip (3) and (4), the graphics subsystem chip
(5) and (6), and three capacitors (7) and (8). Replacement thermal material is included with all
fan/heat sink assembly, system board, and processor spare part kits.
When I took the heatsink off the only thing that has thermal paste was the graphic chip, and northbridge chip.. let me take a picture
-
What's your question?
-
-
Is there suppose to be thermal paste on the circled spots? It says to apply in the manual I am reading....

Fix/Enhancement: Fixes an issue, which occurs on notebooks with a Clickpad, where resting one finger in a button zone while using another finger to move the mouse pointer may inadvertently cause unwanted gestures to be triggered
did you figure out anything with the sound of the new buttons? any adjustments? Mines sounds "clankity" also. -
-
92C sounds like ramen. -
4saken you dont need to apply the grease to chips that dont touch the heat sink
-
Okay well I put some on the bottom right chip is that okay.. its non-conductive or should i take it off?
-
I would wipe it off its not going to do anything if it doesnt come in contact with a heat sink, just put the grease on the cpu, gpu, and anything else the heat sink actually covers and comes in direct contact with
-
All this temperature talk has me concerned a little bit. Does it void the warranty if you take the laptop apart?
Mine's still in Alaska but I want to prepare myself for everything (I've even got a new Windows install disk on the way). I'm wondering if it'll be faster for me to just cancel the order and reorder it...
And what kind of mouse are you guys using (other than the trackpad)? -
But temps on the GPU is just amazing, even with 650/1000 overclock it runs at max 61*C, that's almost the same as my 5870 in my well-cooled desktop.
