Of course you can always get rid of the touch screen and lightscribe upgrades and get a better hard drive or processor... (I chose these to make it minimum price possible![]()

I think I'll be buying this laptop tonight, I'm just curious as to what HP's return policy is. Anyone happen to know it?
-
For whomever asked, as an example, I ordered mine on the afternoon (US Pacific Time) of July 2nd, and it arrived here on July 15th.
-
Return policy is 21 days no questions asked. I haven't used it ever though. I like my dv6t despite it getting hot lol.
-
Finally ordered my dv6tse!

I'm VERY happy with my purchase! I was originally looking at one for around $920, but I think the E2E touchscreen and additional battery (great for college) are worth the additional $60 ($200 coupon). Once the price jumped up, I considered getting an Envy 14 for the same price, but I would've had a slower processor, less RAM, smaller HDD, no touchscreen, and only a standard battery. I simply couldn't give up all those features just for a better screen and the status of having an Envy.
I do have one question though: How accurate is the estimated build date? Mine is August 2, but I have a feeling they're just trying to be safe by saying the absolute latest it'll be built is that day. Am I right, or wrong? -
^ yea, I don't see why envys are more expensive. Maybe the quality control is a bit better.
-
Just ordered. Estimated build date is the 29th. And now the waiting game begins again.

I'm trying to decide between a HDD and a SSD
In what kinds of situations is a SSD much faster than a HDD? (all of them?)
And how long do people think the free upgrades for the 6GB of RAM and the 500GB 7200RPM HDD will last?
Is it correct that the $200 coupon is the best one out there currently? (when does it expire?)
Basically what I want to know is, is now a good time to pull the trigger or is it likely that I can wait a bit and get a better deal? -
I don't think anyone can tell when is the best time to buy a laptop, thats why some people regret it afterwards when like a 400 dollar coupon comes out right after their purchase... But I can tell you 200 plus the 150 instant rebate is one of the best if not the best discount there is. (I actually used a 400 dollar off coupon but the 150 didn't apply so I saved only 50 more than right now) -
I read that SSDs have limited writes and stuff before they die
Is this something I have to worry about?
Is an SSD's life expectancy better or worse than a HDD? disregarding potential physical damage
An SSD could survive if the laptop fell of a table, right? But a HDD probably couldn't? Not that I have plans but I'm just curious -
SSDs are supposed to be more shock-resistant, yes. A lot of laptops nowadays though (including supposedly this one) have accelerometers built in that are supposed to automatically shut off the HDD if they detect that the laptop is in freefall.
-
-
SSD's do have better shock handling due to no moving parts. However, it is an electronic device and I would not recommend it anymore then dropping your laptop.
Here is a great resource for SSD Myths and Facts. http://www.storagesearch.com/ssdmyths-endurance.html -

Is this a good deal for the specs?
Oh, and is the $200 coupon likely to run out before July 31st?
Is the free 6GB RAM upgrade likely to go away?
EDIT: The $200 coupon running out, meaning reaching 700 uses -
Has anyone else noticed that if you look very close at the screen, when you have a certain picture or document up that parts seem like the pixels are "dancing" around?
Its very very minute, and I am wondering if its just a factory film on the LCD that is causing it, because if you look at the screen on an angle closely you can see it looks pixelated so to speak. -
The pictures are on the link on my signature
You can change the buttons easily with EventGhost with the exception of the Print button. The thing is, is that the other buttons are mapped to some random key, whereas the print button is mapped to Ctrl+P.
If anyone needs help, just ask away. -
Oh, thanks! the pictures are really helpful
In the pictures, do you have a backlit keyboard?
If yes, where's the backlight toggle button? -
Three filled in bars that kind of look like a battery with a spark on the top. -
-
Do 540 + 6gb ram. I think processor speed is more important unless you do something that utilizes a lot of ram lol.
-
Yeah, I do agree though. It'd be less likely for you to get anywhere close to 8GB of RAM unless you're running After Effects and a whole assortment of Adobe/*insert company* products, in which case you'd probably opt for both upgrades.
The 540M also helps in more CPU intensive games like Starcraft 2, Bad Company 2, etc.
Despite all this, I actually opted for 8GB - not my fault, however. -
-
Go for 8GB ram.. As 64bit catches on more programs will start to utilize their
full potential and in a couple of years a new ram system called MRAM or magnetic ram is coming might as well get the best currently so it won't be a hassle..
On other note my laptop is in Newark, NJ I hope everyone else is with mine LOL -
-
It takes them 5-7 days to build and another 5-7 to ship but shipping usually either goes faster or slowed like if the fedex truck has alot to carry and leaves a laptop behind for the next day..
So in all in about 2 weeks it should be in your hands -
-
Mine is still "In trasit" in Anchorage. I live in Houston, Texas, anyone know what route it might take to get here?
-
well mine is only 30 mins away from me and on vehicle for delivery, ill do the the test for my laptop soon
i7-840QM 1.86Ghz quad
6 GB ram
500gb 7200 rpm
9 cell -
-
I can't wait for mine to get here either... I have a dv1000 special edition right now, which I bought in 2006 and only has an 80gb hd and less than 1gb of ram.
-
I see the free 6GB Ram upgrade is no longer available..damn
-
-
-
Hp should have given an option of the Ati 5830 GFX card and that would have made it a perfect notebook.
-
Most likely it will go to Memphis, Tenn then to Houston but then again it might jump straight to you.. In my case it jumped to NJ and I live in NY so
It was a surprise.. But usually Memphis serves as the hub for the eastern coast -
-
I'm confused by this line
"No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)"
Does this mean that, even if you don't get a touchscreen, you'll get the webcam?
I ask because they changed
"Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader"
to
"Backlit keyboard with Fingerprint Reader" -
-
And also, I have a saved configuration in my cart with the free 6GB RAM upgrade
Will the purchase go through as it shows in my cart? -
The biggest differences will be multi-touch screen & fingerprint scanner on the dv6tse, along with higher screen resolution, two fans, and better battery life on the E14.
-
Has anyone else noticed that the touchpad scrolling (either two-finger or one-finger--I use the latter) just doesn't work in some apps? It won't work in Steam at all, for instance.

Hi guys,
I want to return my dv6t se that I received last Thursday 7/15. The reason for the return is that I can make a setup I like better with the new price/upgrades for the same price. My question is, I already created the recovery disks and went through initial setup, can I still return the laptop for a full refund? And what is the best way of going about the return? Thanks a ton in advance. -
Sorry, double post

Do you guys think if I called in to order, I could get them to give me the RAM instead of the Blu Ray? I really have no need for it as I barely have any DVDs and who pays for blu ray when you can stream HD???
