If you get your E14 soon please post a comparison, because I'm in the same boat as you. I don't have the touchscreen so I won't be missing that (how is that working out for you, btw?) but I will miss the fingerprint reader, it's surprisingly handy. I'm a little concerned about the two fans because I'm not sure temps are actually lower on the E14, and there's also that issue with the cpu whine, but I think it's just that there's a lot of whiners in the E14 thread.

Well I finally got mine about 2 hours ago, just tinkering around with the settings and dealing with the bloatware, there wasn't that much.
I was running an update for the firewall, downloading 2 steam games via wifi.
Installing Oblivion via CDs.
Screen brightness max.
Power Cable in
9 cell battery so it's raised
room temp of 76 F
on a plastic surface
and it's 30 mins since i started doing all that stuff.
My specs are

And darn it, I should have ordered before they took out the free RAM upgrade..
On second thought, a Core i5 450 M and 6 GB of RAM is good too right? -

I don't have any experience with returns, but I think you have 21 days from delivery to return it for any reason. I don't think having made recovery discs would make a difference. I suppose you'd just need to go to HP's website and find the support info and the procedure to follow would be there.

Okay, is it just me, or did the base price just drop $50? O_O God, I hope it stays like this, sin I know I'll be at least a month before I can buy. I need to save every cent I can.

I see that some people have opted for the 9-cell battery. Would you guys mind sharing your experience with that battery (include your CPU, GPU, and other relevant info). Does it truly provide a substantial increase in time when compared to the 6-cell options?
Just throwing this out there, do you guys think that the addition of the Blue-ray drive will impact battery performance in a significant way? -
In case you guys are looking for a sleeve for the dv6t SE and are "picky" about the HP brand, I came across one at some Best Buys in Canada. So, I have no doubt you can find them either on HP's site or at a local retailer:
HP 16 Black Stream Notebook Sleeve (WU672AA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products
Basically, the pattern on the sleeve itself is an exact match of the design on the Argento finish -
Hey guys, My DV6 Select Edition is on its way! I'm pretty darn excited! There is one thing thats bugging me though...I went to best buy and was looking at the Select Edition and I noticed that the metal colors do not match...The main top and inside color has a yelow/pink hue..and the edge metal parts have a nice CLEAN silver look.....AHHH what a HIDEOUS combination!! What can I do? Has anyone tried painting the notebook?
or has anyone found a good hard case that snaps over the top? -
-
Mine just left Anchorage! yay, I wish the 22nd delivery still applies
-
Mines is in New Jersey! Will be delivered to Virginia by 4:00 tomorrow!!!!!!!!

I've heard the HP adapters are destined to break, but it seems that this falls short of their slim adapter. So I ordered that as well just incase..
The Onyx Notebook sleeve looks pretty good, and this all falls to $1,296
Edit:Oops, wrong thread. This is a D6z select edition..Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

All right, so I just joined this forum to get a general consensus on the DV6TSE I just "pulled the trigger" on monday.
specs:
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
From the many many posts that I have read, it seems that the i7 core = crappy battery life due to 2 extra cores and non-switchable graphics. However, apparently the i7 will run cooler than most i5 processors?
I ordered the high capacity battery hoping it'll add a little extra juice to the notebook. I don't plan on being away from power sources for too long, and the school I will be attending in fall (for which the notebook is for) has personal outlets in nearly all of the classes I'm taking, so I'm hoping battery life isn't going to be a concern for me.
After reading this forum though I feel like I made a mistake choosing the i7 processor and going for non-switchable graphics. I'm not that hardcore into gaming, and I don't run that many processor intensive programs, but I felt like the 50 dollar difference between the top end i5 core and the i7-720 core was neglible. It also put me over the top for the extra 200 off coupon. For my engineering major I might also have to run autoCAD, which makes me feel a little better about my choice. So please, members of the board, please write something in reply to make me feel better about my choice, as it's something I don't think I'm going to be able to change! Thank you all!
btw- I'm really really excited for my fingerprint scanner... -
So here are my crystal disk benchmarks showing why you should totally get an SSD if you're wondering about what upgrade is going to be most beneficial to you.

Just a little note to further extend your awesome battery lifes which is better than envy 14 I must mention lol use this program called granola after you get your laptop can't wait to try it on mine nd see if it actually works
How Granola Works -
My build entered Indianapolis at 1:11am. I may end up getting it a day early!
-
I am planning to buy the dv6se but I am worried about the ati 5650 being downclocked to 450 like the HP envy. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?
-
-
the envy is downclocked?

I just got my dv6tse in the mail. It went from AK to FL in like 12 hours surprisingly.
First impression: keyboard is a little weird to type on [backlit], its probably just going to take sometime getting used to.
My touchpad seems a little messed up, like the left corner/side can be pushed in and makes loud clicking sounds when the right side does not do that. It also seems kind of difficult to use as of right now, how do I even scroll on the thing?
Computer as a whole seems so nice and fast though. -
Mine is an hour away on delivery to my house. Cant wait!
-
Looks like FedEx can be very fast
Mine is on delivery truck too, probably going to get it at around 3. Now I am just praying for the laptop to have no problems.
-
Wow, someone is kind of dumb. I have the wrong packing slip and it says this laptop is supposed to be shipped to someone in IL who got BluRay and an AMD processor and I started dying laughing that I got shipped the wrong computer but then I checked it all and its definitely mine... the slip is for a dv6z anyways
-
Does anyone here have the extended 9-Cell battery? If so, how much battery life can I expect out of it? (Core i5, wifi off, screen brightness around 90% or 100%, simple tasks like Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, no gaming)
-
I ordered a 9 cell with mine, so I'm curious also.
-
-
I just got mine, super excited. No dead pixels or DOA, but it has 93 running processes right now!! Holy crap does this need a clean install..or something! Im going to go to work now, come back in 5 hours, make recovery disks, and then have some fun!
-
-
mine just came, going to open it soon
-
Gaaaah. I'm at college, my laptop just got delivered and is at home. I wanna go home right now to open it! It's torture! D:
-
-
So I went to bestbuy to check out the touchpads on the laptops there and its confirmed mine is not installe properly, its not secure and gets pushed into the body of the laptop when you click it... Going to have to call HP later and get an exchange...
-
-
Got my laptop about an hour ago. Going through and uninstalling things still. Overall, its running pretty cool, not that I have done much.
-
is it normal for the power brick to run at like over 100 degrees? o.o
-
Can some people comment on the sound from the fan while playing with high performance and CPU goes over 70*C? My fan just goes crazy when CPU gets around that temperature and I think something is wrong so just wanna confirm.
-
Not sure if this even matters considering mine came DOA, but when I first turned mine on and it kept bluescreen-ing, the thing would sit at the error recovery screen and the fan would run like crazy until I shut it off. Sounded like a jet engine. Needless to say, that thing went back ASAP.
