No problem something must have been wrong on the manual for them to take it down from the consumer site or they're updating it like mentioning i5 450m processor and other things, anyways hope it answers any questions and no problem ;)

Also if anyone has that problem with 3D DriveGuard being disabled after downloading hp updates, let me know I finally fixed that prob.

Hi I've been reading this thread for awhile.. wanted to give my feedback/review
    I bought a dv6t SE with
    i7-720
    6 gb ram
    500 gb 7200 hd
    touch screen
    backlit keyboard

Received it 10 days ago.. I was very excited to receive this.. I own a dv5t which is a year and a half old.. (that was before the Envy came out so I have a high def screen (pretty sure its 1900x1020).. 4 gb ram and pentium 8400 dual core.

Anyhow.. I was very disappointed with the dv6t-SE.. so much so I am returning it. Just doesnt seem worth what I paid for it ($1050+ shipping).

Pros- The backlit keyboard is great. This is a must add on.
THe graphics rendering is awesome. Even on google maps, you can scroll through the zoom and it renders the graphics instantaneously.
The Blue Ray drive is a must.. looks great.
    Sturdy aluminum case (pinkish though)

    Cons-
-The screen is horrible. I put this computer side by side next to my dv5t and a MacBookPro 13". the contrast on the DV6t-SE is a joke. It is very whited-out and has horrible contrast. I realize the resolution is not as good as my old laptop.. but compared to a MacBookPro (with similar screen resolution), the dv6t is a joke. I cant even look at the screen without being annoyed. On youtube, with the Mac (or my other HP) the colors had deep contrast and looked real.. with the dv6t-se they were whited out. There may be a way to adjust this but I couldnt find it
-Touchscreen is stupid if you ask me. I dont understand the purpose of reaching over the keyboard and mouse to touch the screen when I cna use the mouse. (except that the mousepad stinks- see below). If the screen rotated over to make a tablet looking thing, the touchscreen would make sense. As it exists, it just seems like a waste of $150.. seems like a novelty that wouldnt be used over time.. and it leaves the screen dirty
-Mousepad- The gestures are good (not as good as the Mac though)... a big plus. But the pad requires too much effort to push to click... HArd to describe, but I dont like it
    - Quick launch keys- Dont like them where they are.. often when I try to press shift or other buttons, I instinctively hit them because they are to the left side of the keyboard
-Speed- i7-720 and startup and shutdown still took a relatively long time.. (I didnt do a clean install.. but removed bloatware and all the startup programs).. my old dv5t was faster
-Battery life- dismal. I had the high capacity 6 cell battery. Probably can get 3 hours with light usage
-Netflix on the touch screen didnt work.. Not a big deal but annoying. I called Netflx and HP and neither could fix it
-Metallic case had a pink hue
    - A MAIN REASON FOR RETURNING- mine kept losing connection with my router.. and loaded webpages slowly at times. But it sat right next to my old hp notebook which had a perfect connection and loaded pages faster. I called HP tech support and they told me to update bios etc on my 2 day old computer. Maybe I had a lemon but this was annoying
-POWER SUPPLY IS HUGE- the notebook may be 5 pounds.. but add another pound for the power supply. It is ridiculous

NOTE- This isnt a bad notebook. I found a lot of cons.. I just wasnt blown away by it. I usually am wowed by my new computers and want to play on them forever.. not so much with this

TIP- THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT. I f you buy this (even with a coupon).. call HP customer service a few hours after ordering.. tell them you want to cancel becaue you want to remove an item, it is "too expensive".. in my case I said the TouchScreen was too much. THey may offer you a $$ refund on your credit card right away. If they dont offer and process cancellation, ask them is there a way to get a refund so I dont have to cancel. Once you ask they will give it to you. And hold out.. and be firm.. I was able to get a $100 refund on my credit card.

Not trying to threadcrap.. just want to let you know my experience.. and concerns with this model

I never measured temperatures but it felt hot to me..

    just a question

what is the difference between the Dv6z/Dv6t with the Select?

cause im going to custom the Select Edition and found out that you cant select the colors while you can on the normal edition

so yeah, is the Select Edition like "best deal" type or something? is that the only difference/advantage?

The Select Edition has a metal finish and can be configured with higher processors, a backlit keyboard, and the touchscreen while the regular versions have the color options and start cheaper; but when configured the same the SE's come out cheaper

Something must be wrong with the fan control on my laptop, 70*C maximum while playing and it sounds like it's at highest RPM.

And since the return policy where I bought it sucks I have to either pay $100 if I return it or turn it in to get it fixed, but might be able to complain that I need it for school blabla so I might get a new one right away, but probably not.

Anyone have any coupon news on the dv6t SEs or Envy's?... it seems like one should be out in the next couple days or they probably aren't going to do another one???????

    Thanks

How is the turboboost for everyone? If I set maximum processer state to 100% it will always be at 2.66GHz which is probably causing the high fan noise, if I set it to like 90% the fan noise is bearable but not close to quiet and turboboost seems to still kick in but not getting to 2.66GHz due to being downclocked from the start.

When I set it to high performance mode it boosts itself up to 2.66ghz. Can barely hear it though.

To those of you with a touchscreen, have any of you tried using capacitive styluses (styli?) for it, like the Pogo Sketch stylus? YouTube - iPad Painting Demo

I've been wanting to make a few sketches on the computer for fun, and a stylus might also come in handy when drawing graphs for math class on OneNote.

I agree, Blu Ray is a complete waste for me, especially with the lower screen resolution. Its too bad HP has "no ability" to adjust this or give a discount for disregarding the free blu ray and opting for a plain dvd drive.

So I wait for either a $400 coupon to show up again, or the blu ray to go back to RAM and a $300 coupon.

Is this typical with this model? I saw someone earlier in the thread noted that the laptop was plenty quick after manually uninstalling each individual piece of bloatware, but then I read reviews like this and think a clean install is a must. I know my current older HP laptop has been very, very slow almost from day 1, and I suspect it is because I never did a clean install right after receiving it.

    Coupon question!
I've heard that HP releases new coupon codes soon after they expire
The last coupon was supposed to expire on 7/31, but it expired because it reached a certain number of redemptions
So will a new coupon come out really soon since the last one expired, or will one probably come out on August 1st?

My out of the box start up and every start up after has been lightning fast. I've read about i7's with weird dpc and slow start ups on other computers too.

Also, just used some program to check my boot time.

I killed all the bloatware, killed all un-necessary programs from starting on my laptop. 1 minute boot time.

Though some things like the Fences overlay, SetPoint, and some other things I can't get rid of so it's stuck at 1 minute.

If you want faster, get an SSD

I just got me a DV6se. For those who are curious about the WLAN and some of the parts' markings, here it is. I usually do an inventory and taking out the original HDD (replacing it with one of my HDD's) prior to booting up a new lappy

HDD: 500 Seagate ST9500420AS 7200.4 - will soon replace with one of those Seagate Momentus® XT 500gb ST95005620AS Solid State Hybrid Drives

WLAN: Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000

BD-DVDRW: BD-TD03 HA - apparently a Pioneer drive. Any one got an RPC1 firmware for it yet? I can'd find much details about this ODD though.

    DDR3: Micron MT16SF25664HZ

Also, I've noticed that a lot of the free stuff which comes along with this promotion ends 7/31. Examples would be blue-ray upgrade, lojack upgrade, 150 instant rebate, etc. Is it risky to wait to purchase till after the 31st to see if there's a new promotion...possibly losing the current promotion. It doesn't seem like they'd sell any of these models if they didnt have all the rebates because then they would price higher than the envy's. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I just returned my laptop because the fan control was faulty or something, I couldn't be bothered to turn it in for service since I bought it at a store, they would probably just vacuum it and send it back...

Probably not gonna buy a new one even if I loved it because the only store that has it in is the same one and I don't feel like buying from them again.
Too bad, loved the laptop except for that issue.

I don't have a camera, so I can't take any pictures for you, but yes, it does stick out the bottom of the laptop and elevates the back about 3/4 an inch. I actually prefer the elevation on a desk, since it makes it nicer to type on.

Well, what they said they would do is take it in for service but that they will probably just check for heating issues and I know how those stories go, it takes ages to get the laptop back and it will not be fixed. If it was something that was more obvious like a broken touchpad I would just turn it in for service but this would just have been annoying.

And I live in Sweden so ordering from the US is not something I want to try due to warranty etc..

I was actually thinking about that. But then I asked myself what the hell can I do with 6 GB of ram? I've been working with -1 GB my entire life x] (Currently running Windows 7 Ultimate on 1 GB of RAM)

The computers also dropped 50 dollars after the "free" 2GB ram upgrade was gone btw.

I WOULD LOVE A VIDEO REVIEW.

I would love to have a general overview of the aesthetics and general look of the computer as I am a VERY VAIN person.

Also weird question but can you measure how thick the computer is in the back? where the battery is (with the battery in)

Don't know if this has been posted yet but if you want to change volume without the annoying indicator showing up and minimizing your game/program from full screen just open up windows media center and minimize it and the indicator will no longer show up and it won't minimize anything. Hope this helps somebody :)

Or you could just uninstall the HP Mediasmart program thing. It'll wipe out the indicator easily but there's always some 3rd party program to fill in that hole.

This might be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyways. On my order sheet, it says "full-size island-style backlit keyboard with Hp TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint reader", but on the website if I were to order another laptop, the only way to get a webcam is if I were to order a touchscreen.

This won't effect me in any way correct? I don't think it would, but I'm curious.

I believe even if you don't order the touch screen you can stil have a webcam.
