    I dunno.

    it requires a $1299 purchase.

you could always call 'em and try to get some stuff taken off your card.

    *sighs*

well. I was too late to do an automatic cancel. They have to request one instead and I'll know if it worked or not in 24-48 hours.

if it didn't work, the computer is a comin my way. (unless they can get fedex to return it to the factory or something).

if it does come my way well..it's not worth it to return it since the $200 coupon ends on the 26th. It'd get to me by..well...the 30th or so.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the money to order it twice so that's not an option. So we'll see.

That same $200 off coupon is how I got my whole setup for $850. $150 off instantly, and then $200 off. $350 in savings. The coupon was for systems with a base price over $1199 though, not $1299.

yeah. they upped that by a 100 it seems.

still. it gives me the same price for my 430m, non blu-ray version of the dv6t:se.

    so...

Well I pulled the trigger and with employee pricing I got:

    # Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    # Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-540M Dual Core processor (2.53GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
    # 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    # FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    # 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
    # 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    # TouchScreen with HP TouchSmart's intuitive multi-touch applications
    # Blu-ray +/-R/RW with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    # Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    # Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    # High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)

with an employee purchase program (EPP) pricing it came to $1403.09 dollars but I received an email stating my order was being delayed due to production issues. So I rebuilt a similar system plus 6gb of ram and minus a touch screen with the new 200 dollar coupon with regular person pricing it was a lot cheaper ($1219). Even if I had kept the system the same it was going to knock an additional $100 off with the coupon.

So I call HP and a retention person offered me $150.00 dollars off my order if I would just keep my current order in the que. I said heck yea and now I have the above for $1253.09 and it ships this Friday. Not to shabby...if in doubt call HP give em a little gripe to cancel and hey you get a little more off the order (although I really was going to cancel and reorder since I received the email stating I could cancel if I wanted to because of delay)

I do video editing of high def so I need the blueray writer as DVD can quickly be used up even double layer dvd pushes it. I think the i5 will do video editing fine especially when plugged in at 3ghz with hyper threading. I know quad would do it better but hey I want the battery life when cruising the internet or just reading.

I know most of you here opted not to get the touch screen but I am curious to try it and I like the idea of surfing the web with my finger. I am not a fan of touch pads when I am online. Viewing angle doesn't bother me either. I do however want to read online books with this in bed and the battery time is important. I hope the touch screen doesn't screw my reading up. Many companies seem to get touch screens down now though....is there a review of the touch screen?

    I 'unno.

10 days was what my estimate was before I canceled to redo it with the $200 coupon (still waiting on the cancel, hope it goes through). The HP people were all "there's chance it won't get canceled and will be shipped to you anyway" and that was only 2 days after it was ordered sooooo.

and hell then there's that other part of me that is going "well hell you canceled let's see what the envy14 is gonna cost"

but then that picture of that vent that is sorta blocked by screen shows up.

    meh.

that being said. I didn't cancel it on account of the envy.

I canceled it on account of "whoooo yeah better deal. boooo hp why not put that deal out before I order the damn thing"

I'll make my final decision later today. Gonna just run the G1 at 1366x768 for a little while and see what it's like.

So far I can mess with the zoom on things to make side by side on win7 work alright. So that's a plus in the dv6t's favor (I'm going to be doing a LOT of side by side in my future..so I need it not to be an issue)

My brother's dv6z shipped the 15th being ordered on the 8th and my dm4t shipped on the 26th and was ordered on the 19th on June so build time is usually about a week and delivery time is like 3-4 days. I applaud HP and FedEx for a less than two week wait on CTO laptops.

I would imagine your specs might have something to do with it. If a certain parts is out of stock or they're waiting for say your 8gb of ram or ur touchscreen, that will delay it.
i order last tuesday 6/8. My unit was "in production" from wednesday to monday...shipped this tuesday 6/15!

To reduce confusion between the original dv6t and dv6t Quad Edition, this thread has been created for all past, present, and future owners of the dv6t Select Edition (3rd generation dv6t, 2010 model) notebook.

Up to this point, I would like to point out some resources for those who want to know more and get started:

Finally, I apologize in advance for any inconveniences that were caused as a result of the split. :)

Has anybody have issues with the touchpad/mouse pad with the select edition? I kind of find it hard to navigate! I need to push hard for the right/left buttons to get them click! my fingers hurt sometime! also, close to the edges on both sides, when I push to click, there are two levels, second level being very hard to reach and the only one working!. It was so hard to push that I thought the touchpad was not working in the beginning!

Does anyone have any definitive battery life numbers yet? I would like to see how the 'z' compares to the 't' in terms of power consumption. Temp readings would be welcome as well.

Edit: Has anyone tried using AMD GPU Clock Tool to OC the 5650? I am trying but it won't work for some reason.

Wow. This thread is rather quiet. So after 24 hours with my dv6tse. Here are a few thoughts....

    1. Keyboard is lovely. Love the island style and the backlight. The extra column of keys on the left for quicklauch needs some getting used to. I find myself hitting the calculator keys when I'm looking for "ctrl". The quick keys at the top also need getting used to. Having to press "fn" to use F2 or ALT+F4 is different to say the least. The metal casing under certain lighting will look pink.

    2. Out of the box, on default settings, the speakers ARE UNIMPRESSIVE to say the least. Very dull sound, LOW volumes. It took some playing around with settings in the playback devices (speaker) properties to get the speakers to acceptable levels.

    3. It runs really cool, I've had no issues with heat burning off my thighs. I'm pleased, especially compared to my dell inspiron 1520 that used to give me 3rd degree burns on a daily basis.

    4. Did a clean install out of the box. Things are definitely snappier compared to my Inspiron 1520. Had a few issues getting the fingerprint reader to work after the install, but it's working now.

    more thoughts...later

I just noticed it this morning but does the 6 cell, or high cap 6 cell, not fit into the laptop perfectly for anyone else? I was running my hand over the bottom and I noticed that the battery sticks out a fraction of a centimeter. I have had it for a few days and just noticed it, so it isn't much of a problem, I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem.

I just checked and the battery is raised, ever so slightly. I doubt that it would really cause an issue though.

Has anyone bought a case/sleeve yet for their 6tse?

I don't think it will; it is tightly in there and the opening is too small to fit anything in and pry it out. I was just curious.

Is there a program that will test battery life? I never seem to use mine long enough to drain a full battery in 1 sitting. Maybe a timer program that will add up all the time, and include battery drain?

Battery drain isn't bad, but I put it to sleep, and after 9 hours, it's down about 12%.. this may be because I put it to sleep, instead of shutting it down.

What I did with my UL80 and dm4, because I could never drain them in one sitting, was this. I just wrote down what time it was and what percentage the battery was at when I put it to sleep and when I woke it up. Then I added up the times and divided by the percentage that the laptop was being used for (i.e. 180 minutes of use drains 75 of the battery) and get the minutes per percent. Multiple that by 100 and you get a rough indication of battery life.

Can anyone with the dv6 with i5 and hd5650 tell me how is the battery life with the intel graphics switched on, wifi on and normal word/internet use?
Perhaps perform the Battery Eater readers test? That would be great!

Secondly has anyone tried to overclock the hd5650? I already saw a post about that in this thread but I think the user only improved the memory clock by 100mhz which is a really small test. There was something about undervolting too so I suppose he was doing it in battery mode.
Can anyone overclock in full performance mode and post the 3dmark and temperature results? I'm sure a lot of people would find that interesting. :)
I was going to buy the Acer 5820 but this HP seems a very good option especially in the build quality and screen quality department. :)

    Thanks a lot!

    Using MSI afterburner I obtained:

    Max Stock 550 / 800

    Max stable OC 715 / 891

Can be pushed further if you want to benchmark, but not by much.

Undervolting, was unable to find any way to reduce the voltage to both GPU and CPU. Therefore the notebook will drain the battery fast.

Running at reduced CPU speed and GPU speed, even then battery life is poor.

But you have the i7 right?
That overclock is really poor... Weird when the hd5650 can achieve a lot higher clocks in notebooks from Asus or Acer for example, maybe some Hp problem?

So it has the same stuff, and a backlit keyboard. I've simply been reading about all the problems with the Dm4t, and it seems like in general people are happier with their Dv6t... it has superior cooling, but it is 1lb heavier, so it's tough for me to tell if it's worth going bigger.

The dv6 is obviously going to run cooler due to the bigger form factor. Personally, I wouldn't worry about temps in the 80s on the dm4 because a lot of processors and graphics cards run about there under load nowadays.

Speaking of cooling, I've noticed while playing games that the left hand rest gets super hot sometimes to the point it is uncomfortable, and I have to use a piece of cloth or something to shield me from it.

Got sucked back into WoW and that is where I'm noticing it. :(

I noticed that it gets warm as well but not super hot. What are you internal temps like?

Running i7 here, temps are 42-50c while just surfing the net, depending on what I open and the amount of IE8's that are open.
Under load will often goto 70c very quickly.
Will top out at 80c after awhile when playing a game. The palm rest gets hot, although my WASD keys get really hot and make it uncomfortable to play. I am thinking the CPU is near this area.
Using a stress testing software the CPU will go into the high 80's near 88c.

Forgot to add once past 70c the CPU fan spins hard and fast, the heat getting pumped out is crazy hot!

    Hi,
I got a DV6T-SE with i5-540M and 5650 switchable graphics. So far it is amazing, my only read problem with it is that the ATI graphics drivers are 4 months old.
It's annoying hp doesn't keep ATI's pace with graphics drivers.

Has anyone been able to install newer ati drivers to work with switchable graphics?

Also, trying to run GTA 4 I noticed it stutters. Even on lowest graphics settings, I get a high frame rate on average, but it stutters, rendering the game unplayable. Has anyone been able to get it to work?

    Thanks,
    Eyal

It is very easy to install the newest drivers. Just go to,

    Graphics Drivers & Software

Watch the videos on the bottom and it is simple. Worked fine for me.
