Correct, but is there a temporary "lock" while in Windows? e.g. Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, Num Lock

If there is, I havent found it. I wish I could set the volume keys as normal, then the other f-keys as regular.

Does anyone know if the HP Media Drives are eSATA compatible? I would need one because I will be opting for the SSD. I spoke with a rep and they said yes, but the description states that it merely uses the USB 2.0 and not the eSATA port. Would I just need to buy a SATA cable to make this work?

Description from HP: Compatibility: USB-enabled PCs, HP Pavilion PCs with HP Pocket Media Drive bay; USB 2.0 is backward-compatible with PCs that have USB 1.1
    USB 2.0 B-type to A-type cable

Ahhhh! When I try to track my order, it says "Not Tracked. Sorry, we are unable to process your tracking request."

When I checked it a few hours ago, it said that my order was still "In Transit" in Alaska since 3:00 July 29. It's odd that it hasn't been updated since yesterday (except for the fact that there's no order tracking at all now). Maybe FedEx is just having some tracking issues ATM. Anyone else experiencing this?

    got mine this morning ..
couple of inputs .. touch screen is a finger magnet. any goog sreen protector any one can suggest. also the thickness of the screen seems to be more then what i saw in Best buy.
the extra kesy on the left side makes typing a mess, i keep hitting caps key when i try to press "A". hope this would go away in few days of practice.

with 9 cell it is heavy :) .. rest later

I am seeing the same message when I check fedex tracking of my laptop too. I believe the last status of my package was the same as yours. It's probably just a hiccup in the tracking system. If you and I see the same message, then others must too. As of right now I'm not too concerned (Tuesday, August 3rd is the expected delivery date.)

the tracking history for my shipment is back up, although, the status has not changed since 7/29. I reason why the tracking has not been updated is because it's mostly likely making that long hike from Anchorage to Baton Rouge, LA.

Jul 29, 2010 12:45 PM In transit ANCHORAGE, AK Package available for clearance

Jul 28, 2010 3:22 PM In transit ANCHORAGE, AK
Jul 28, 2010 1:09 PM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK

Edit: Shortly after posting the above history, Fedex updated the tracking of my laptop.

I have a random question. When I'm listening to music and talking on tinychat, the music gets quieter until I switch to something else. Is this the system doing this, or is it tinychat?

    Nvm, fixed it.

I'm curious what kind of timeframe I am actually looking at (barring clearance issues)...
Ordered Wednesday the 28th around 4pm with an est shipping date of Friday, Aug 6th. They called to doublecheck the new card was legit and I was told they released it. Last night the status showed that the order had been dropped to the factory. Tonight it's showing In Production with the same 8/6 ship date. I ordered the default base config changing only to the 6 cell + 9 cell batteries and a backlit keyboard so I would think they'd have all the parts on hand. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it's likely to sit in production? Do the Chinese work over the weekend?

AGH! Ok so eventually i am going to want to upgrade the screen to a 1600x900 LED screen but I can't find one single screen thats this res AND 15.6"! Why couldn't hp have made the screen 16"? Anyways, does anyone know of screens that would fit both of my criteria? Thanks in advance!

Btw, would it even be worth upgrading to a 1600x900 res screen?

I've been looking for the same thing, but I figure I've got a 1080p external monitor that I'll be using most of the time. Plenty enough for me!

I do aswell, however it's only 18.5" so it wouldn't be a huge improvement. I aslo have a 40" 1080p 120hz LCD which would be nice, but my ps3 is hooked up to that for gaming so there's no reason to use the laptop instead of the ps3. Plus I would mostly be away from both the tv and the monitor, so I would realy like to have a better screen. I'm gonna keep searching for one, and I'll post if i find anything.

I swear, I just want to get the touchscreen to get rid of the bezel. I really don't like those, always getting dust under them. I'm always tempted to dig in and cleaned it out. Lol, just a random comment.

The laptop has arrived at my local FedEx 30min out of town! Sadly, they don't deliver on Saturdays though unless I pay for it. :( I was planning on going to that place 30min away today anyway though, so maybe I can just pick it up from them directly. :)

hey guys, new to this forum but I've been following for a while. Proud new owner of a dv6t select edition for about a week now, a lot of you have extremely similar builds but I'll post the generals in case anyone is curious:

    # Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    # • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-450M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)with Turbo Boost up to 2.66 GHz
    # • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    # • 160GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)
    # • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
    # • 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    # • No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
    # • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    # • Intel Wireless-N Card
    # • Full-size island-style keyboard
    # • High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)

    I got it back when there was some deal that breaking a certain amount would get you a $300 discount, or something, so I invested it in the SSD - no regrets so far. A couple of gripes I'm having though so far, and wondering if anyone else has these or has any suggestions;

First, I did a clean reformat, the bloatware wasn't bad but I'm ocd about these sort of things anyway. The reformat went pretty well, reinstalled all the drivers but I was getting some freezing with windows update. I think that issue is resolved now, but continuing...

The shortcut keys (f keys) at the top are helpful but it really bothers me that the F buttons themselves have to be activated with fn + the button. Mostly, this gripe comes in SC2 making the menus much harder to activate.

The ?/F1 button is right where I think the escape key is, so instead of hitting escape all the time for certain applications or things, I'll bring up the help window, which is just horribly aggravating.

The touchpad is nice but sometimes I'll get some weird tracking when I use the buttons - I mean, the fact that both the buttons and the trackpad are one is kinda weird, so sometimes when I go to click the button the cursor will move to that position on the trackpad

The display resolution leaves a little to be desired...

Finally, one of my biggest gripes - does anyone else have a problem getting the latest ATI drivers from ATI/AMD's website? It seems like they don't support our notebook so we have to goto HP's site and then download their version, but that version seems out of date. I saw a link to a direct dl of the video driver posted around here and used that, but my computer screen went dark and I had to restart. Dxdiag still says my version is 8.692.1.0 but I don't know what the latest version is. Any way to check what the latest driver version for our video card is, and update?

Thanks everyone, if anyone has questions for me (prospective buyers, I guess) that haven't already been answered I'm game. Despite my gripes, I'm so happy I got this laptop - it's friggin fantastic. Build quality is amazing, the keyboard is nice, and it's really fast and powerful so I got a great deal on this.

I agree with you on the touchpad. When I keep a finger resting on the button and try to scroll with another finger, the tracking is messed up by the finger on the button. It's really frustrating, but I use a mouse a lot so it's not a huge deal.

Also, any particular reason why my fingerprint scanner isn't working? The light doesn't even come on anymore when I try to scan my finger. Really hoping this isn't defective....

Ajnu, from what I understand, the Function keys can be enabled to be regular f1,f2,ect in the BIOS under something like Activekeys. This is from memory, so I'm not 100% on it.

Thanks jakej, I'll check it out. As for my driver issue:

So actually I was able to update my video drivers, I had some problems on install the first time but then I completely uninstalled ATI CCC and then ran the 10.7 mobility drivers from this link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...deon-device-driver-catalyst-win-7-64-bit.html (now 10.7 is out so snag that)

After uninstall and a new install, dxdiag now tells me I'm running 8.753.0.0. Success! How will I know when a newer version comes out?

worked beautifully! Disabled action keys from BIOS. Thanks a bunch, still a little miffed that the escape key feels a little out of place but at least now I won't be closing applications to run the help menu.

I tried the speakers of the new dv6 series at the local store today and I was very disappointed by the sound quality. The previous dv6 series had much better sound. Also, the bottom of the laptop had a cheapish feeling.

Other than that, the laptop seemed great.

There's a registration card that comes in the box for lojack. Just follow the instructions and you should be good to go.

Also, we can't download from ati because of the switchable graphics. That's why it has to go through HP.

The screen resolution actually makes gaming better since the 5650 doesn't have to deal with such a huge resolution.

I'm actually surprised how well the gaming 5650 runs at 1920x1080.

Now if I could only figure out how to prevent GPU core temp spike on 10.7 and my manual switch graphic to work

This is the one that I ordered and use. It's their 16" one but since there's no bezel on the touch screen I figured that it was easier to get one that was a little large than to put the 15.6 on exactly right.

I asked this a while back and I still want to know if anyone here has found a way to personalize the function buttons on the left side yet?

I want the Mail button to open Mail Washer Pro and the browser button to open my Synology management page...

It would be great if we could personalize these buttons instead of the default ones :)

For those with i7 processor with 9 cell you should get around or close to 5 hrs
on light activity however don't buy this for battery it decreases faster than i5s due to no switchable graphics
