To be honest, many of the complaints (including mine) are with HP itself, not the laptops. For example, my first one was DOA probably due to HP's lack of testing before leaving the factory or damage during shipment. HP's problem is sending the right shipping documents to US customs when they arrive in Alaska from China. Mine and my replacement both got stuck in Alaska due to this common (and ridiculous) occurrence. Eventually it gets worked out and they move along their way.
Now that I finally received my working laptop, it is VERY good. I've always used Dell's and even though the CS with HP has been poor, the hardware is great (so far). It's just about the right size/weight. Build quality seems solid with the metal, battery lasts around 4 hours with a high-cap 6 cell, keyboard is pretty good, no complaints with the touchpad (which can be customized). And most importantly, it's FAST. This laptop definitely has the edge in terms of bang for your buck and it's still fairly new as well.
If you have the coupon, go for it.

I want to ask the DV6tse owners with integrated graphic how long last the battery and is the hd5650 overclockable(how much and put some 3dmark06 scores)
-
So I just got my laptop today, but the touchpad is driving me crazy.
Does everyone have a click when you press on it? Also, im having issues with the right mouse button. The LMB works with barely any pressure - I just need to tap it. The RMB however, needs me to push on the touchpad much harder. Is this a problem with the entire series, or just mine? -
Thanks for the response! It really does seem like a good laptop. How are the temperatures on yours? I've heard a lot of complaints about those also. But yeah, my biggest fear would be that the laptop is DOA since I'll either be traveling down to the US to pick it up or have somebody ship it to me. Then I'd have to go through the trouble of having it returned and everything if there's anything wrong with it. That would suck...
-
Sure, the bottom sections are where you click for left and right clicks. However, tapping on any part of the touchpad once registers as a single left click. To get a right click, you do have to give a good press on the right mouse button area. It's not a problem, just the way it's made.
Temps are great so far. I've had it going for a few hours doing some web browsing and solitaire. Idle temps are around 30-35C. I'm going to load up Flight Simulator and really run it through to see, but so far, looking good! Chances are you won't have any problems. I'm just the lucky one who gets to deal with them!
-
I know, im talking about the actual buttons.

The battery with the standard 6 cell is supposed to last around 4 hours, and the high capacity i supposed to go around 30+min more. The 9 cell is supposed to last around 6 hours, but some people in this thread have said it could go up to 8. That's a pretty big stretch though.
EDIT: A review I watched on youtube said that the laptop went for 6 hours web browsing, wifi on, so 8 hours is actually plausible.
The ATI HD 5650 comes clocked at 550/800 (I'm not positive on the 800, but I'm pretty sure), and most people say that they overclocked it to 650/1000, and anywhere beyond that causes malfunctions.
Btw, the overclocking to 650/1000 is supposed to give around 5 fps increase for games like BFBC2 -
Well, since the touchpad is technically one "button" divided into two clickable areas, I'm not sure I understand the issue.
-
hey I have a question for those whose laptops are also in anchorage right now: do you guys have the two day shipping or standard shipping? I have the two day shipping and it says it will arrive tomorrow morning but it's still in anchorage..
-
mine departed ANCHORAGE
.. must be on that plane to Oak. that means i might get it tomorrow or may be Monday
FlightAware > Federal Express Corporation #86
the estimated delivery date is tuesday -

Hey for those of you who have the touchscreen, how is it? Like how well does it work? I'm thinking about getting the touchscreen since the touchpad is supposed to be not so good, and i wont be on a desk very often so I'd rather not use a mouse.
Is the touchpad really as bad as people say it is? Like whats bad about it? This will be my first laptop so I won't have to ween myself off of resting a thumb on the left click button like others have to. Thanks! -
The lower left area needs the same pressure as the rest of the mousepad to activate its function. The lower right area needs much more.
-
Most of the complaints are in hp's part, if you pay for 2day shipping and it's late get your difference in money back from resolution center, as for DOA you'll know it hen you get it. Unless you're a gamer that overclocks, most temps are fine, I don't suggest sitting with laptop for more than 6 hrs straight on your lap as any laptop will get warm..but as long as temps stay below 100F it should be fine. When you go to the states turn the laptop on and see if all is good so you know to return or no.
-
Hmm.. mine says "Package available for clearance" still in Anchorage.. but the estimated arrival date is still tomorrow morning. humhum
-
may be waiting for a connecting flight ,, where do you live ?
-
i live in Pennsylvania :/ kind of far
-
I see what you mean. On mine, it takes roughly the same pressure to initiate a left "click" as a right "click". If it bothers you too much, remember that you've got 21 days to return/exchange it.
-
you might still get it tomorrow morning.. if not you can call up HP and crib about this .. you might get some refund.
-
For those who are wondering about the touchpad, I don't think it's that bad, in my opinion. There are MANY options that you can tweak in the Synaptics software to adjust nearly everything. One thing I like is the large touchpad. I've tried laptops with fairly small 3"x3" touchpads and they are ridiculously difficult to use especially when dragging or scrolling across the entire screen.
-
My touchpad buttons are easier to press in the center of the two, near the dividing line.
-
If you download Two finger scroll (a little mod that works alongside the Synaptics - its from google code) you can set up multifinger taps to set up as a right click.
...
I find it really ironic how everyone is complaining about HP's terrible service. On the other hand, my friend swears by HP's customer service since according to him they deal with most of his problems "in a prompt and quick manner".
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
I agree that HP's customer service isn't the best, but it is really nice that u can return any laptop no questions asked within 21 days of purchase (or is it 21 days after recieving the laptop? Or maybe after it ships?). And I don't think it's just laptops.
-
Since the last $200 off coupon was supposed to expire on July 31st, can we expect a new coupon to come out on August 1st?
-
This is exactly what was wrong with mine, except mine was the left click and about every other time it would make a very loud click and you could just tell it wasn't secured properly. I tried to live with it but after a week it got really old and I figured I shouldn't just accept it since I payed a lot of money for the computer.
-
You are correct. But I think it's possible to raise the core higher while lowering the memory since core gives more speed overall. I will test today if I get my laptop (which I should).
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Sweet! If you have it, I would love to know how much of a difference OCing that way makes for games like bfbc2. -
Made a test on my last Dv6t which had some fan control issues, see links below with pastebin fraps results, unfortunately the site I uploaded the screenshots to is down.

Awesome! Thanks! ~45 fps on medium settings is good for a notebook. -

Ugh ok so I'm on the fence between the dv6tse and the dv7tse. I can get nearly the same specs on each, except for the dv7t not comming with a backlit keyboard. This is HUGE for me, cuz I would be using the laptop mostly at night. Does anyone know if the dv7tse had the option for a backlit keyboard when it first came out? So like maybe hp is currently out of stock?
-
Yeah, and even with my external 1920x1080 monitor I had like average 35 fps.
I would say the difference in fps was 5-10 overall for overclocking.
But just one sidenote, when you overclock you are not able to resume from sleep or hibernate, it just shows a black screen and a hard reboot is required. -
I haven't even overclocked and that happens to me. I just press the f4 key twice to change the display. Apparently it thinks a projector is connected when it wakes up. I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but it only happens when I'm using the ATI card.
-
Not the same problem as that has never happened to me while not overclocked and also doublechecked with another member earlier in this thread.
Wouldn't suprise me if a newer ATI driver fixes the issue but HP will probably never release a new one. -
alrite so i went and did a run to check my battery life, i left it on power saving mode, 10-20% light, no background excespt for those that start up automatically and needed, and also with wifi on but not connected to any network as theres no wireless at my work. leaving it idle i was able to get a time of 2hr 48mins before it reched critical and shut itself off. my problem is ive seen people here post life of 3 hrs doing casual work is mine a dud? my battery statistic seems fine, ive included a pic. is this normal? im guess if i do run any load itll pretty much half the life proved above :S
-
I've got the high cap 6 cell which is 62WHr versus the standard 6 cell which is ~54WHr I believe. I get about 4 hours with casual use. Keep in mind, this is with the INTEL GRAPHICS. I see you have the discrete GPU running which will drain your battery much faster.

"Software is being installed"
Let's hope for the best guys, don't want to return this one! -
Not trying to jinx you, but if you return this one would you get another or jump over to another laptop?
-
You guys that are receiving your laptops now, about when did you order? I think I ordered mine last Thursday, and the person said expect around August 5th. Would this be accurate?
-
Yeah, that sounds about right. I ordered mine 2 days before you and my estimated delivery date is August 3rd.
Also, someone asked about the shipping on the laptops currently in Alaska....I have standard shipping. -
Jump over to another laptop just to try my luck. I am uninstalling all of this bloatware, last time I just went for clean install before even starting it, lmao.
-
man.. my laptop is supposed to be here right now but its on clearance delay in anchorage! grr.. and now it doesnt even have an estimated arrival date
i had better get my $50 back for 2-day shipping -
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Does that happen with any overclocking at all? or just going to 650/1000? Oh and were you able to overclock the core while underclocking the memory? -
My laptop gets Delivered today!
-
Any overclocking at all from what I tested. Did not test overclocking the core more while underclocking the memory, I was happy with the performance. Might try it with this new laptop.
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Ok. I think I'll try to do the same, but that won't be for a good while considering I haven't even ordered the laptop yet lol XD -
Okay, either I am really unlucky or the fancontrol is suppose to go at almost max when the CPU is only 73*C on one core and GPU is like 61*C. But according to other members here they hardly hear it while playing so I guess I am unlucky...
-
I have another problem - when I use the hardware volume keys in certain full screen apps, it minimizes them and comes up with the volume bar. Is there some way to stop that from happening?
-
Download an alternate program for volume control. See hereIts called 3RVX, and is a great replacement for volume control indicator and doesn't minimize programs. Just set settings to start at startup so its ready working as soon as you turn on your laptop.Code:

Mine should be as well. Its on a truck atm. -
Does anyone know how to "lock" the Fn key to stay "on"? I've got a few games that require the f1-12 keys, but having to press 'fn' beforehand gets a bit tedious.
-
Its in the bios under "ActionKeys"
