This is exactly what happens and it is a serious drawback imo. I really do not understand the preference in glossy parts by laptop manufacturers. Simple plastic is way more practical and will last better over time.

keyboard is hitting the screen on the left side leaving marks.
appears that there is a slight wave in the keyboard on the left side, causing it to rub...anybody else have this? -
i always tend to have a bit of buyers remorse, and i'm not sure why.
wondering if i should've went for the 14" envy with this config:
# Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
# System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
# Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-520M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
# 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI] - For Dual Core Processors
# 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
# 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
# Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
# No additional security software
# 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 3.75 hours of battery life +++
# 14.5" diagonal HD+ HP Radiance Infinity LED Display (1600x900)
# SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support (Slot Load)
# HP TrueVision HD Webcam and Dual Digital Integrated Microphones [For Radiance Infinity Display]
# Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
# Backlit Keyboard
build quality is ok on this thing, but not great...
few concerns are the screen, ethernet adapter (only shows up under adapters when plugged in, causing issues with serials on some progs), and the i7 seems to run pretty hot, causing my fan to be on quite a bit.
battery life is also crap. have had this unplugged for almost an hour, and is down from 100% to 60%.
i'm an architecture student, so i run 3dsmax, revit, cad, photoshop, illustrator...would the other model be any better for me or should i stick with what i have? -
I've had the dv6t-se for a little over a week now. Did a clean install of Win 7 Pro x64, installed all the drivers and did the color calibration in the Control Panel to adjust the screen's brightness. I left the settings for both ATI and Intel cards at their defaults.
Today, I'm noticing that the screen's brightness gets progressively brighter on its own when I open any window or application. It's almost like an adaptive brightness where I'll see it increase a few levels and when I close out a window to return to the desktop, it drops down a few levels. I don't have the Adaptive Brightness service running.
This just started happening today everything was just fine before. Any advice? Hardware or software issues?
Thanks! -
Just think if you will be ok with the laptop for another year or two and take a pick
Its natural to be paranoid when you have so many choices.. -
-
seems like my fan is constantly on unless i have my laptop on a cooling pad. -
-
open the active power plan and click on change plan settings, at the bottom the brightness level is shown
Open a full-screen app, minimize and check again..see if its changing? -
Brightness levels for both "Plugged In" and "On Battery" are set to 15%. "Dim the Display" is set to never for both also. Screen still brightens up a bit when I open an app and window and dims back down when I close them out.
Would really hate to have to return/exchange it back to HP since everything else works fine and I spent a few days setting up/tweaking the laptop to how I want it.

i bought this laptop yesterday and i would be really grateful if someone could show me links or page where it was described how to set up your laptop right out of the box. by that i mean screen adjustment, sond adjustment and other little tweaks that make difference.
i know i saw a couple of threads with this stuff a month ago when i was into buying this laptop, but now it is probably insane to scan al 350 pages.
please help! -
mackorisnik009, here are a few links you will find useful:

I'm really starting to despise this screen resolution. Arrgg! -
Well that was fun. I was watching a 480p video on YouTube when the 5650 suddenly decided that it sucks and crashed. The driver fixed itself without shutting down the computer, but still.

Did any of you get a change of warranty date after upgrading the BIOS to F12?
Prior to the BIOS update I was getting an end of warranty date on July 9th, 2011.. Now the warranty date degressed to June 3rd, 2011.... -

I just got my DV6 Version 3, Can anybody explain to me why the hdd indicator and the battery charge led is on the the right hand side of the notebook, where you cannot see it
-
Well, actually I think it's so they could put the exhaust vent on the left side rather than the back. -
Has anyone noticed how much the back of the screen flexes? Close your laptop and push down... It feels like there's a huge airspace.

Question: For people without switchable graphics (i7s, in this case), would downclocking the gpu help to save battery life? Thanks in advance!

i think i'm going to send it back and go with the envy...
think that i7 will run any cooler on it? -
-
I'm guessing if I drop this on the lid it might have a chance of not destroying the screen. Though with the default screen they gave us, I wouldn't be too sad if it broke. -
Now with my Envy 15 coming, I wouldn't want that screen to break...
Unfortunately my Envy 15 is still in production 6 business days later. That's how long it took my dv6tse to arrive. -

Hp Pavilion dv6t SE with i5 or i7 ?? and is the touch screen working good?
I'm going to buy a dv6t se with price < 1500$...
Anybody recommend me a good configuration with this price above..
-

-
-
... since i found some information in this thread that is i7 hotter than i5 :| ...
Thank for replyin' ^^! -
Now, how many hours of battery life do you need? -
-
No, unfortunately, I have the regular screen. -
@city Pig .....Could i ask you one question?
How do you feel about the regular screen and do you like your dv6t se !. if you get a new one . Will you make the config better than the one now ? -
Honestly, if I had the money, I'd get an Envy 15 over this. I like the laptop, but having a better screen and a bit more graphical power in a lighter package would be outstanding. The loss in battery life would hurt, though... -
haizzzzz ... thank you so much City_Pig ....
Perhaps i will wait for the new Coupon that is save <250$ off . Now the coupon save 150$ off only is available .... I will buy one of the Envy series (maybe 15 or 15 Beat Edition if they release "ha ha") in December ..... I hope Hp also will do the new Coupon in that time ....
Thank for replyin' ... ^^! -
I did return my dv6tse for an Envy 15 for the better screen and graphics. I will miss the SSD I got on my dv6tse thanks to the $250 coupon (at least until I get an SSD for my Envy, but I will have to save up $300 for it so that could take a little while), and I will also miss some of the battery life. -
-
I second that...for its price its extremely sturdy and coming from a 14 inch similar res screen, I find its screen more than enough..
it performs pretty well too..ask yourself..is the extra cost worth the screen? -
Has anyone tried out the new graphics drivers that are available?
-
-
From HP, 8.752.1.0
-
-
They were just published today it seems... let us know how they work for you.
EDIT: Im guessing by the version number that they may be based on Catalyst 10.7, whose release notes state that "Browser no longer fails after repeated system suspend/resume and video playback pauses while viewing YouTube content" -
I just installed it. Installation went smoothly. -
-
I'm not sure if it makes it's own restore point, so you might want to make one yourself. -
