If I click "customize and buy" it brings me to a page that says this:

    "We're sorry!

We no longer have the PC you're trying to customize, or some of its components, or the server you want.

Please choose another customizable PC or one of our ready-to-ship PCs, or choose another server. You can also call our Sales Center at 1 (800) 351-9687.

    Thank you for your understanding."

Edit: I am using the link you posted to get to the page, by the way.
Edi2: When I search "dv6t select edition," it brings up the dv6zse and when I search "dv6z select edition" it brings up the dv6tse, but it still wont' let me configure one.

Are you sure? I can still configure them just fine, and I placed my order about an hour ago.

I think so. There are only the two customize and buy buttons on the right hand side, correct? One for base config, and one for recommended config? Neither work for me.

This isn't really a problem as I'm not looking to buy one (in fact I returned mine), I was just trying to see that the dv6t has the AMD processors currently and dv6z has Intel.

No crackling issues here, and tried it with 4 different HDMI equipped machines (3 TVs, one A/V Receiver). However, I am using a mix of VLC and Media Player classic which works fantastically. But I use PowerDVD 10 for DVDs and Blu-Ray, which works perfectly fine. As for Mediasmart - never tried it - deleted it on the first day.

As for disabling the laptop's monitor, press the F4 button and make sure the 4 little icons pop out. Keep on pressing it until it says Projector only.

Looks like they added 2 more processors for the dv6z. Anything hardware configuration changes with the dv6t?

I think they were trying to add the 560M and 580M, but couldn't get the pricing right and gave up.

The HP site is now working normally...

Those looking for a good option now, is not de dv6T but the dv6Z with a new Phenom N950 and the non-discrete graphics are the Radeon 4250 (way better than Intel).

Don't forget to look for coupons codes.

Actually, the GMA HD is about equal to the 4250. The 4250 does perform a bit better most of the time, but never "way better."

If you just read the posts, posts number 3581 and 3585... If your laptop is heating... check the core numbers... a few people here is using wrong drivers with i5 and the HyperTreading is not effectively deactivated/activated... so the heat starts to rise...

Expect a 40 C from your i5 on daily use and about 80 to 85 gaming or heavy duty programs.

the videocard temperatures are very much the same as the i5 temperatures... sometimes 5 C hotter.

The screen, well, that's an unsolved problem... problems with your eyes maybe... or just HP problem... I prefer the first.

My 450 running on the IGP idles at 30-35*C and with the 5650 running it idles at 40-50*c. The 5650 will idle at 50-55*c. When gaming or doing heavy tasks cpu will rise to 86-90*c and gpu will climb to 60-65*c. Nothin crazy, but I have modded the bottom of my case. YMMV.

Thanks for the response, although somehow you managed to include some text of yours about PowerDVD 10 in your quote of my post. :) I guess I'll have to try other players and see if the problem persists. I hope it's not a hardware issue or I'm pretty much boned, because I'm not sending the laptop back just for that.

Ran the test for an hour. GPU maxed out at 71C, CPU at 80C, HDD at 45C, and ACPI (whatever that is) at 76C. No stability issues at all! I think it's fixed! :D

what sucks is that, now HP doesn't offer anymore System Recovery CD anymore

and im not sure on how the hell does a 0.1 GHZ can cost you another $60

    i mean

    N930 is 2.0 = $20, N950 @ 2.1 is $60

that is a steal for a 0,1 GHz

unless N950 offers more than N930? can someone enlight me?

All the AMD's new (entering the market this month) CPU's, APPARENTLY, give just 0,1 GHz frequency to the customer...

ALL OF THEM! EVEN THE DESKTOP ONES!

    They are asking to bankrupt...

I thought acpi was related to the temperature of your power brick? i have no clue, I tried to research about it and that's all i got. Related to power and possibly your brick.

ACPI is a part of the power management system in your notebook - it plays a major part with sleep states and such. Other than helping to control the fans there is an ACPI enabled sensor on the motherboard to monitor temperatures you'll see an ACPI TZ01 entry for monitoring regardless of whether or not you're on battery, and it typically is around the same temperature as the CPU.

Red led backlit keyboard hack? Has anyone done this yet, we all have the white led, is it possible to change the color of the led as a hardware hack or maybe even a software hack? It would pretty cool, plus these are my specs of my computer.

It wouldn't be caused by ACPI itself, as ACPI only monitors and controls parts of the hardware - the heat that you're experiencing is caused by high CPU or GPU temperatures which typically only happen when the machine is under full load (e.g. your CPU and GPU are both maxed out at 100% usage).

The palm rest on the DV6T SE does tend to get a bit warm but it seems normal over a long period of time, unless it's scorching hot...

The left palmrest on mine only got warm on gaming. I mean, while just surfing the internet, I could feel that it was very slightly warm if I touched my fingers to it for a couple seconds, but with my palm resting on it, I couldn't really tell at all. And if I raised the laptop up a little bit off my desk, then the left palmrest didn't even get that warm while gaming. The right palmrest didn't get warm at all.

No, if brought directly through hp shopping.

There are new models that are issued with intel centrino wifi 6250 in the wild.

Or you could replace your wifi 1000 with it.

2 phisical cores, but 4 logic cores...

You must know if the HyperThreading is activated (4 logical cores online ), if not... that may cause overheating....

I have the six cell, but I usually raise it. When it's flat, it sometimes increases temps 3-5C. Those maximum temps from FurMark were with it flat, however.

I think it's either HP MediaSmart or HP ToneControl that I can't install ( it crashes at the beginning of the installation)

I've been having some serious problems with my fingerprint reader....whenever I boot up I keep getting a "reader not detected" statement under the fingerprint icon instead of the "Swipe fingerprint to log in"...I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times and it works for awhile but then seems like the driver and or reader just dumps and reverts back to not being detected again.....i've used the drivers off the HP sight as well as the drivers links off our forum here...to no avail...
Has anyone had these issues?? and or a fix? I'm starting to think I may have a "faulty" or "bad" reader...hopefully not because I hate to have to send this in ...

    Thanks in Advance...

After a week of OCD-style comparison of different processors (i7 vs i5), configurations, brands, and laptop deals, I'm happy to report I've decided on the dv6t se. I can finally go to bed in peace. The main reason for this choice is the $300 off coupon which made this a real bargain.

I must say the complaints about the touchpad erratic behavior, low resolution and bad vertical angles of the screen made me hesitate. Unfortunately there is not info about these issues except for a few users complaining here and there, probably of the hard-to-satisfy kind, but I guess I'll be finding out soon.

Here's my configuration ($1090 including the ridiculous 8% state taxes):

    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-540M Dual Core processor (2.53GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
    • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Dual Core Processors
    • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
    • No additional security software
    • High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
    • 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    • No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
    • Lightscribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    • Standard Keyboard
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Estimated build date: October 7, 2010

The build date is almost 2 weeks away, perhaps that's a sign of high ordering rate for this product. It does seem to be popular on the hp site, although very few professional reviews are available online.

Coming from a low-specced 3.5 year old Dell Inspiron 1501, AMD Turion64x2 TL-50 1.6 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 60 GB HDD, Vista 32-bit/Linux Mint 9 32-bit dual boot, and a mighty powerful ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, I wonder how much of a change I'll be experiencing. I'm excited to say the least.
