So I tried L4D2 again on my custom profile, this time with lower ambient temps. The CPU maxed out at 83C. Not great, but it's a nice improvement.
-
What's max clocks, it froze on 650 and 1000. Did 650 and 850 and it was fine.
-
According to a review, your's only has Integrated graphics ?
-
kinda weird thing happened today, i was switching my inputs on my tv, and my laptop popped up....whats that all about?
-
That is correct -- integrated graphics only on the dv6-3033cl. For my use, I am cautiously optimistic that integrated graphics will be satisfactory. (I don't use the laptop for gaming.)
Oops: I just rechecked the listing for the machine you bought, and I see yours has discrete graphics. So it's not quite the same. -
So, winter will be upon us soon enough, and you know what that means- static! Lately I've been kinda nervous touching my laptop because of ESD. A couple of times I've gone to pick it up and I end up getting a nasty shock. I'm hoping the aluminum casing will disperse the shock and not damage any internal components. What do you guys think? I am just being paranoid?
-
Hey guys I was browsing this forum couple of weeks ago and came across a battery monitor software. But I don't remember what it was called and its not BatteryMon. It was a little cool program that's free but you can donate if you want and it also appears in the taskbar.
Does anyone knows what it is?
Thanks... -
I use batterybar for monitoring battery life. Pretty nice program.
-
Thanks. That's actually what it was.
-
Strangest thing. Today, I accidentally left my power plan on power saver when playing L4D2, and instead of throttling like it usually would when I do that, it kept the CPU temp down to 79C max. Weird.
-
Yeah. That's what I meant. Usually, the CPU throttles during huge hordes (my mortal enemy) when on power saver. I guess it was because I was on No Mercy for most of the game yesterday.
-
Seems to be the same apart from the graphics tho.
Will be upgrading the 4gb ram to 8gb when the ram arrives
.
Anyone know how to make the bluray player that comes with the laptop, region free?? -
Is there any specific reason for upgrading your RAM? 4GB is more than enough for just about anyone (and it will be that way for at least the next 3-5 years from the looks of it), unless you're doing something very RAM intensive (such as very heavy photo and movie editing or running VMs).
-
Anybody know if we can upgrade our laptops with the subwoofer that comes built in on the DV7T?
-
I'm going to say no, since there's no place to put it.
-
Well, now I'm screwed. The laptop fell and got a noticeable dent in the corner of the lid. Not only does that mean this screen is going to stop working eventually (due to dust getting behind it), but it also means that if I send it in to fix my rapidly worsening idle temps (CPU hovers around 50C, GPU around 50 with spikes to >60 just watching flash videos), they're going to claim that my warranty is void and probably charge me as much as I paid for the laptop, if not more! Dammit! Next year, I'm going to start saving up for a more expensive laptop. I just hope this thing can last until I have enough...
-
Have you thought about replacing the lid parts yourself before you send it in for the temps?
-
And risk messing it up more and having to pay more? I'm better off getting a cooling pad and a lid cover. Hell, if I'm gonna take it apart, I might as well just replace the thermal paste.
-
City Pig, I've seen your posts around here and couldn't help but to notice your signature. Your laptop's status has went from optimal to burning to death to ok to what it is now, and I have to ask, what's wrong with it? Does it get hot? I just got my dv6tse a few days ago and seeing that worries me haha, but using speedfan, my hdd, gpu, and cpu temps usually stay around 25-28C and i havent seen them get higher than mid 30's. Is yours just defective, did it happen over time, are you running really intensive software, or what? Note that I have the standard intel hd graphics and i5 580M, if that makes a difference. -
You'll be fine. My temps are stable running on integrated graphics, though they have been getting higher over time. The CPU can easily reach 50C on idle. it was 35C just a few weeks ago...
I honestly don't want this thing anymore. I really wish that I could return it. I at least know now that that article about laptop manufacturer's reliability was more accurate than I originally thought. That 5650 was a $150 upgrade, and now I'm afraid to use it! -
That's why I bought an Accidental Damage Protection 3 year warranty!
-
I would have done that, but i didn't have any money left. But thanks for making me feel worse. :/
-
You could try getting an additional care-pack for accidental cover now then to avoid suspicion, after 1 month or so, tell them you dropped it?
-
Actually, since the care pack would be counted from the date of purchase, I don't see why it wouldn't be covered without me having to lie.
Anyway, The temps suddenly dropping down a little while ago makes it clear that I must buy a cooling pad. I simply need more airflow under the laptop. -
maybe?? I think they require if you make an additional purchasable for warranty to send in pics, but i bought mine when i bought the laptop so idk... you probably could, but its about $300-500 for just the warranty
-
Price is the issue here, and I'm not so sure HP deserves any more money from me.
-
Thats a lot of $ =/ Its 300-500 for 3 years?
What is the lowest? 6 months or 1 year? -
One year, which costs $100.
-
now, that isnt possible, they said you cant buy it with a damaged pc, but read my other post too!
-
That is why I said, you buy it. Wait a few weeks and then say you dropped it. For them, its like you bought it for a fine laptop. Unless they check the condition previously?
-
i got mine for 250 for 3 year but thats with a discount only buying with the pc, right now its 400 if you want it
-
Ah. Of course. :/ Well, screw it then. I refuse to pay them to fix this, so I'll just live with it until I can buy a new laptop.
-
i think they check
-
Well, obviously. I definitely plan to complain to them as much as possible, though. Oh, and to smash this with a hammer and put the video on YouTube.
-
Well if you have decided not to bother with HP at all then I would suggest you think about our comments on fixing it yourself then. Buy the parts from ebay for the lid and replace the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu while you are doing that.
-
I can't risk leaving myself without a laptop. I can barely even afford the parts.
-
I think its still on warranty as long it still boot up completely to windows and was never dismantled past the consumer access.
You're going to ask them to fix the temp problems anyways. -
They'll blame the temps on the drop that caused the dent, despite the fact that that's impossible, so they don't have to pay and instead make ten times the amount of the repair from me.
-
In reality what are you actually losing by giving it a shot? A week or two without a laptop.
-
I can't afford that, and I'd have to be extremely lucky to get it back after two weeks. And anyway, I'm sure they'll tell me that I have to pay.
Does anyone know of a good lid cover I could use? -
Very sad! after 4 days of waiting, the in-house service guy got the wrong heatsink ;_;
He applied thermal paste but it hasn't made that big a difference. He will come again in 2 days. -
Those of you who have successfully updated your BIOS on this laptop, how did you do it? I think I'm going to try that next.
-
Close all applications, and then run the update. Confirm.
Just that.
Note: your cpu usage goes 100% and fan will go nuts for a few minutes till it restarts. -
Wouldn't it be safer to use a disk, though? And what do i do if something goes wrong (since my warranty isn't worth jack anymore)?
-
Haha you say i'll be fine but your temps have been getting higher over time on integrated graphics! I've only had my laptop for a few days, I'm kind of afraid whats going to happen in a few weeks when I'm out of the return period!
-
My temps were never quite as low as yours, so I don't think yours has whatever defect mine has. Besides that, ambient temps are part of the reason for the increase.
-
Alright well thanks, I guess I'll just hope for the best and that HP doesn't fail on me haha. Did yours come with any noticeable defects out of the box? Mine had a few small scratches on the bottom.
With my laptop on a desk right now, temps are staying around 15-20C and when on a bed and more vents blocked they raise to 35C or so. -
Only 35C with blocked vents? Oh yeah, you're just fine.
Not really, other than the battery not sitting flush. -
Also, those are just idling temps, and I did update my BIOS. I have fan always on enabled in bios also. Try updating bios if you haven't already, maybe it will help.
Oh, forgot to mention i also have Granola running, which helps CPU power, not sure if that also means it has effect on the temperature.
And yeah, I have that same problem.
