Mine boots up in about 20 seconds and is ready to use shortly after, albeit I have the SSD in mine, but 6 minutes is definitely not normal.

cold boot 26 secs for 7200 rpm hd with quite a few boot time network services.
Could of gone faster, if i took them out. But I'm mostly on standby, so its a non issue to me.

Even at factory install, shouldn't take that long to boot up.

It's Select, since the normal one doesn't have a backlit keyboard or fingerpriint reader.

Could you kindly explain HOW you got all that money off of the price? Sounds like a steal of a deal. I want it! Thanks.

I've been trying to find out if my dv6t-3100 cto select edition machine had the quickweb feature as my other dv4 has. From what I've gathered, you have to have the bios quickweb feature enabled in the configuation tab. So if you don't see it in your bios you do not have it. I've checked and I do not have it, hense, all the software in the world will not enable quickweb.. Oh well. Anyone with any information on this feature, lets us know....................

There should be a program in Windows to turn it on. Though, it really is nothing more than bloat.

How old is that beast? You would be surprised at how efficient a laptop becomes after removing dust bunnies & cleaning the fan and heatsinks. In order to do this properly, most laptops require you to remove the keyboard to have clear-view of the innards.

Don't do this willy-nilly, do some research before-hand.

    Here is an old thread:

Ewww, yeah, that doesn't sound healthy at all. I would contact them and see what they say. I know several dv6t owners have complained about problems like this, and it seems like they may have some poor quality control there.

Honestly, this is a big reason why I decided not to order this laptop.

    Good luck.

I just received my computer with the 5650 card. I'm trying to upgrade the driver to 10.10 but I can't seem to get it to work. It says I have incompatible hardware when I use the mobility package off of ati's site. I've read about the intel graphics causing a problem so I've already disabled them and removed the driver.

If anyone has been successful in getting to 10.10, I'd appreciate any advice you have.

I have heard people having problems with switchable graphics setups. It seems to me like most people end up waiting until their manufacturer releases an update. Not saying you can't get it to work, but from what I've read it can be a major pain.

I would check laptopvidoe2go.com for some advice on that one. Forums there are dedicated to upgrading/modding/installing graphics drivers.

    Non ATI Switchables isn't supported.

Best to use the HP's 10.8 drivers if you want stability.

For the curious, I have 10.10 installed and is working. But I have to sacrifice some convenience and features.
Plus higher gpu temps for idle but it wasn't so bad as the previous official version I play with previously.
Manual switch still crash but not often unlike previously.
Auto switch sometimes fails to auto switch.

Anyways, new HP ATI driver 8.771.1.0 is out in the wild.

I think they were posted in the driver threads either yesterday or today.

On a different note, I'm also noticing the temperatures on my Pavilion DV6 getting hotter despite the fact that the driver configuration hasnt changed, the ambient room temperature has dropped, and the fan vents and the fan itself were cleaned... max temperatures in the low 90's, with idle temps around 50... might call HP about it, or simply delegate the unit to being a secondary PC (the keyboard drives me up the wall anyway)

The keyboard itself is nice, it's just the layout of the stupid quicklaunch keys which throws me off as I do a lot of touch typing in the dark... wouldn't have been so bad if the ESC key would have also been shifted over by one.

I want to get a backlit keyboard since mine didn't come with it, the USA parts has one listed for $90 which is a bit much tbh, plus I don't even think they would ship it too Aus and if they did it would be a large extra cost.

Hi, I am having trouble with my brightness keys not working on my laptop. Its brand new and they were working before. The other keys are still functioning (backlit key, play/pause, volume etc.) You are supposed to just tap the bright or dim key for it to work, correct? Any ideas?

Well I fixed my own problem (above post)! Just did a restart on the laptop and the brightness keys are working again. I have a feeling because it got down to the lowest battery point where it warns you to charge that they stopped working even though i had already plugged into a power source.

People are saying that that price for a refurbished laptop is just a tiny bit too much, but you have a blu-ray included in yours so I'd say it's still a very good deal. Refurbished means nothinggggggg ;D

I just received my laptop last night. Has anyone noticed any issues with the webcam? In particular, it doesn't seem to be seated properly. The LED light that lights up when the camera is in use reflects inside the screen and shines on the camera lens. This creates a glare/ shadow that is somewhat annoying. When the webcam is on, you can look at the lens and see the LED light shining on the left side where the lens is located. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any solutions, besides sending the laptop back?

Longggg story, they told me it was going to cost $800 to fix it? I said f that, i can buy a new one. I finally called HP back and asked them how much again and the super visor of the technician department said $425. I was pissed.

So I updated my graphics driver......... My FPS has dropped signifcantly.. On my external monitor for counter-strike source I would get like 100+, now I'm only getting 50-60 and then drops to 25. ?

That happens sometimes with new drivers. Try reinstalling it, and if that doesn't work revert to the old one.

In other news, I thought about it and decided to set a power profile which disables Turbo Boost and use that for gaming. I tried it with L4D2, and despite the room I was playing in actually being warmer than usual, the CPU temp dropped a little without any decrease in performance. However, it wasn't much of a drop. :/ 87 is still better than 93 though...

Does anyone have issues switching graphics from ATI to integrated? Sometimes (can't figure out what is causing it) but when I bring up the switch window and click integrated graphics, no confirmation window comes up no matter how many times I click it. The only way to switch back to integrated is to restart the computer. Any ideas?

Official has no support for switchables...so either they dont work or work very poorly.

If you had set a power plan which only allowed the CPU to go up to 99% (which disables Turbo Boost) and used that to game, your temps would have decreased a bit. I tried it, and mine went down 6 degrees from before even though my room was warmer than usual.

Of course, that's not a true solution... Well, tell me how long it takes for them to send it back to you.

I underclocked it to 15% and it would still stay at 60+ on idle. I'm sure there must be something wrong with the cooling system. If HP screws this up then I'm never jumping ship again.
