Thanks for the guide, this is to confirm successful upgrade of HP DV6-6135dx to 1080p HD.

I used the 656805-001 from HP partsurfer along with LG LP156WF1(TL)(F3) matte finish screen.

    It turned out exceptionally well.

There are a LOT of screws involved, most of the time was spent keeping track of them in a reasonable fashion.

From what i have been reading the 1600x900 is horrible. You would be better off sticking with what you have.

Why are the 1600x900 screens bad? The 1366x768 is just a bit small for me, so I thought that the 1600x900 would be enough. I would also consider the 1920x1080 but I wasn't sure if it would give me a big performance hit in games.

Do the 1080 screens and cable kits mentioned in this thread also work for a DV6t-3000, Product: VX069AV?

Sorry, I am new to this. My daughter cracked my monitor, and I need to replace it. I saw this thread and thought it would be cool to upgrade to a 1080p display.

If the displays mentioned in this thread will NOT work, what can I get to replace mine?

I might have missed this during my read of this thread, but, In a DV7 with 1600x900 screen... do I need to buy the FHD cable to upgrade the unit to a 1920x1080 screen?

nope, just put the screen in. 1600x900 screens already have the required dual channel LVDS cable.

Hi guys, I have a quick favour to ask. I bought a DV6 6195CA a few months ago and cracked the screen. I took it to a local guy who replaced it with a lesser screen. When I called him back, he agreed to replace it with the HD Screen if I got a hold of one for him (if you look around the net, most screens offered are the 1366x768), and I was told that the one below would work, but to check to make sure the cable connection is on the correct side.

Thanks in advance, I can't even take a calculator apart without ruining it!

It's difficult to say whether it will work or not. The graphics card is not the issue. The problem is that, as far as I can tell, your laptop was never sold with a 1080p display. Thus, even if you were to obtain such a display and a corresponding cable, it's not clear that the motherboard supports this output. I would guess that it does, but the only way to be sure is to try it.

    Hi guys,

I just did this upgrade tonight on my HP Dv6-6135dx, turning it from 1366x768 to 1920x1080. It was much more difficult/involved than I was expecting and took me 3.5hrs, but my laptop went back together and everything is working great! I love increase in resolution.

I was worried that it wouldn't work out, because HP partsurfer seems to have discontinued the original cable that the OP used (Part # 656805-001), and I ordered the new version. I can confirm that the replacement part that is now available (665305-001 Display CABLE KIT - ALU FHD) works just fine!

I bought my screen from LaptopScreen.com and it arrived in perfect condition. The screen is perfect, not a single dead or stuck pixel. I was very worried about this, and for good reason because once you get this screen in, you will never want to bother taking it out again...

My total cost shipped to California was $136 for both the cable and screen combined.

Oh, the screen I choose is this one here (matte):
LP156WF1(TL)(F3) replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $69.99 Brand-new screens (never used).

    Best of luck!

i have the three year warranty with hp on my dv6. if i change the screen am i looking at it being voided? should something happen to it can i just swap the screen out and send it to them?

and btw is the LP156WF1(TL)(F3) screen better quality than the one hp is providing with you customize the laptop directly from them?

The "quality" of the actual LCD panel isn't the big bonus to this mod... sure, the viewing angles are a bit better, and you have the option to switch to a matte screen...

Your experience is enhanced because everything is "crisper" due to 2x as many pixels. At a normal viewing distance you can't discern individual dots, so pictures look much more like printed images than the 720p screen. Everything on the 1366x768 15.6" is "bigger" because the poor resolution doesn't allow text to be rendered legibly in smaller sizes. Also, what is incredible is how much you can fit on your screen at once, and how long it takes you to move the mouse from one corner to the other. The screen is much more "vast." For example, the 1080p screen allows you to put two word documents side by side at 100% zoom. I feel cramped, almost claustrophobic, with a smaller resolution screen when using word or excel, you can't fit anything and need to be constantly scrolling and panning. I work a lot in Ableton Live, and the increase in productivity by being able to put more on the screen is huge.

I see. From the FHD panels that I saw, so far the 15z and Fujitsu NH751 has a big difference including colors, sharpness, and viewing angles compared to any 720p screens out there so I assumed any 1080p panel is generally better. I'm more concerned about these 3 qualities than the resolution but I don't know if there are any good quality 720p screens in the market that can match the 15z or the xps 15.

Will the LG and AUO screens detailed in this thread fit my laptop? And will the graphics card support the new screen?

    Thanks in advance!

The viewing angles are significantly better in my experience. With the old screen, I was getting color distortion at the top and bottom looking at the screen straight on. The only downside to this screen that I have seen is that if you are displaying a solid color and you look at it from too much of an angle, you can see that the backlighting is not perfectly uniform. There are vertical bands of slightly varying brightness. However, the image quality was not my main motivation in upgrading, the main incentive was the crisper picture and more space. I have 20/15 vision, so I don't mind the smaller text.

You can skip the whole display cable changing part, since the cable is already 1080p, you just need to change out the screen.

guys, anyone tried this upgrade on old dv7 4100 series? i currently have a 1600x900 screen and i want FHD , i wonder if i could put a 1920x1080 screen, though only see others 900p displays, maybe those screens of first envy models (1xxx) that have 1920x1080 could fit on my pavilion

You should be able to as long as it's the new-ish model (6000, 6100 series).

Your display cable should already be a dual channel LVDS cable, but I don't know if your motherboard supports full HD. Did the laptop ever come in a FHD version?

afaik, dv7t 4100 didnt come with FHD displays, but envy 1000 models did

Great post with a lot of information! Thanks for that!

I decided to change my screen and I ordered LP156WF1(TL)(F3) mate version.

I've seen a lot of you having trouble finding the cable and at very expensive prices, so here's my contribution :

LCD LVDS Cable of HP DV6-6000 FHD (50.4RN10.021)

23 dollars at the moment :D

I ordered it today, the website seem's to be from china as the telephone indicator let me know, but I gave it a try. The payment is well secured and if you're not in hurry there is an economic (10-20 days) delivery for 3.6 dollars to have it delivered in my case to australia. Still to australia, the regular shipping is 36 dollars to have it deliver within 5 days.

I let you know if everything work out properly.

    Touch Screen Any one?

I just got a HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX from newegg, good deal on a refurbished one. I like this computer but the glossy display is terrible.

I like the idea of a 1080p display with better viewing angles a lot. I am wondering though, any one try fitting the HD touch screen. I am not sure what it would entail but there are Dv6's with touch screens. Adding a touch screen would make this lap top even cooler. The touch screens seem to have actual glass also which I like a lot.

    @maxencecote
Thank for finding the cable at a much cheaper price. I am waiting to hear your feedback on it and I hope it works out for you. Not being gouged on a ribbon cable makes this even more attractive upgrade.
I can probably even sell the old screen on e-bay.

I am going to open my new pavillion dv-6 right now and see if I can dim or disconnect the led that makes the HP logo in the lid light up. It drives me crazy and even though its a small amount of power used its un necessary. I also hate the way it bleeds through.

now if some one just figures out how to add a little led for the number luck this computer will be nearly perfect.

Edit I just disconnected the stupid LED in the logo. No more light bleeding through on dark scenes while watching blu-rays. Now I have just got to get an HD display.

Just have to say that I replaced the screen this morning on my dv6t and wow, what a great difference. I bought the matte screen as the OP suggested, and couldn't be happier, no more glossy for me.

Only step that I missed in the OP and the manual was removing the upper speaker bar, there are four screws in the battery tray and one offset from the battery tray. This must come off to get the display all the way off. No need to take out the system board either.

    One more data point.

I replaced a cracked 720p screen for my dv6 6117 with the screen and cable mentioned by Floppy47 (except that I opted for the glossy screen). I received an AUO rather than the LG listed, but what do I care? This screen is a huge improvement in every respect.

    A couple of notes:
    1. With respect to the installation procedure, as the OP suggests, make sure that you take careful note of the cable routing from the screen assembly to the laptop assembly when you remove the original screen. In my haste I didn't ... and then spent more time than I care to admit scratching my head. If you wind up in this situation here's a hint: the cables route through the openings in the top hinge covers.
    2. The AUO screen seems a lot more saturated than my external display. This can of course be adjusted through catalyst.

On one of the previous pages, someone mentioned that there is no need for FHD cable for Glossy 1080p screen replacement (meaning that the existing cable would work). Can someone please confirm if this is the case, or a cable will always be required - whether matte or glossy? Thanks.

EDIT: I figured that the post I was referring to was regarding replacing a 1080p matte to 1080p glossy. So, obviously, I would need the FHD cable if I want to upgrade from 768p to 1080p. Thanks for this great thread.

it would still work but you won't get 1080 res. glossy or matte doesn't matter.

Does anyone know where the link to check order status from hp part surfer is? I've combed through the site and I can't find anything! I ordered the part last week and I haven't received a shipping confirmation yet. Whereas the screen I got from laptopscreens shipped out already.

I installed the new screen this night it's all working great :)

The delivery from waresphere took 12 days with the economic shipping.
I'm not sure the cable is official hp since it was a bit different from the previous one and the wire for the webcam and microphone is a bit too long. Apart this everything works perfectly so no worries you can go for it!

Actually, you would get the 1080p resolution with the single channel cable, but the colors would be really washed out. Someone tried it in the modding thread, I don't remember who.
