Does anyone else notice a strange variable brightness issue after the screen awakes from display timeout? It seems to fluctuate for a few seconds. I have turned off the light sensor in the camera in power settings.

This is with the 1080 LG screen.

Just ordered the cheaper cable (LCD LVDS Cable of HP DV6-6000 FHD (50.4RN10.021))

Can anyone recommend a 1080 screen for the DV6-6117dx?

    Hello
    Great thread!
I have question. I have a HP DV6-6c47cl laptop. Would the screens and cable work on the DV6-6c47cl. It's a pretty close to the DV6T I like the laptop but the glossy screen leaves a lot to be desired.
    Thanks
    AK

Yeah, I have that too. I think its some type of power saving "auto-brightness" thing.

ordered my FHD LVDS cable aswell, cant wait to get this baby running a beautiful 1080p screen.
TBH, no laptop should skimp on the screen, its the most used thing on the machine if you think about it.

Need to save up from work to afford that AUO B156HW01 v7 screen, but its going to be oh so worth it :D

The screen is in the machine and working fine. Great screen NO dead pixals. I have no before pix when I get some time I can do a after picture. It's a awesome screen. Since I did not have a way to calibrate the screen. I took it over to a local shop and they did the job. All in all I am very pleased. Well worth it to swap out the cable and screen.

    My DV6's screen cracked.

I was never really happy with it anyway.

I suppose it's a good excuse to replace the screen.

Hey guys, quick question. I ordered a dv6z with stock screen, 1336 768 rez 720p. If were to order a 1600x900 HD+ 900p screen and just stuck it on, would it behave as a 1600x900 screen with 720p resolution? Or would it get terribly glitchy and I would need a video cable from HP?

i have the three year warranty with hp on my dv6. if i change the screen am i looking at it being voided? should something happen to it can i just swap the screen out and send it to them?

and btw is the LP156WF1(TL)(F3) screen better quality than the one hp is providing with you customize the laptop directly from them?

Laptopscreen.com is where I ordered my screen. It came in 2 days from Vancouver, Canada to NYC packed very safely.

However, the cable I ordered from waresphere.com is yet to be seen. Don't use their cheaper shipping. It kind of sucks that something so light and small is sent by boat instead of airmail in a small bubble envelope. Alinc is more expensive but less stressful and you know when you can expect your item.

The Hp Partsurfer says the upgraded part number for the cable is 665305-001
It's selling now for 34.20 before tax/shipping etc. Still a bit crazy high for a cable, IMO... Has anyone purchased that part number?

Ok, just did the upgrade to 1080p

cable: LCD LVDS Cable of HP DV6-6000 FHD (50.4RN10.021)

    screen: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/LP156WF1(TL)(F3)/

the cable took it's time to arrive ( 21 days from Singapore to Israel ) .
the screen was at my door after 4 days.

So many screws in order to get to the screen cable and take it out.
All in all it was fun :)

    Tips:
1)When you take the screws out, make a pile and write on a little piece of paper how many screws there are, and where they go.
( something like : "One screw, under the HD " , "7+2 screws bottom of the laptop, 2 smaller screws in holes with triangle near them" )

you may think it's idiot or something like that, but you need to keep track of it ( there are 30~screws you'll be taking out from the laptop, make sure all of them go back in :) )

2)the routing of the screen cable is a pain!
-take the left hinge out for better access.
-before you take out the stock cable, learn the routing it takes inside the laptop, you do not want to pinch it .

    3) Make sure the screen works before you close everything together.
after you connect the new screen, insert the battery , connect the left most ZIP connector from the top cover/panel ( it connects to the power button ) and start the laptop, if the screen works, good job, if not, well ........

I forgot to take pictures, believe me, once you take it apart you want to put it back together as soon as possible .

    EDIT:
It seems the new screen uses a lot more power, 4\5 watts more ( according to powerTop on linux ).
Did anyone had the same experience ?

Anyone confirm for me that a AUO B156HW01 V.4 FHD 95% Color Gamut would work in Dv6 7000 ? And is the connector size for HP Dv6 is on the left side (looking from the back)

Found the original part in the first post, and now have ordered it :) Is there any part number for the panels. They may cost less than buying locally on trader web sites where I live. HP 1080p FHD anti-glare numbers?

Edit, I have found as above the AUO B156HW01 V4 is the best anti-glare to get. So I guess a standard issue HP FHD panel would be inferior. I am going for a AUO B156HW01 V4 even though a V7 is meant to be better but that is glossy and I am not into those.

Thank you guys for this thread, I killed my 1366 x 768 screen today and knowing that the upgrade to 1080p on a new build is $150 means I just got two screens for that same price anyhow. Great info.

Recieved the FHD cable from HP spare parts a day ago, and recieved the 1080p panel from ebay member "screenintaipei" today.

Installed everything making sure everthing is in place correct, read though the service manual, this particular thread, and the you tube video posted in this thread for replacing the display.

I found out today my brand new cable from HP has bad wires about 3-4mm from the connector that goes into the motherboard. These photos will show you what a faulty cable looks like when output to the display.

I was wondering if anyone's monitor here working good with a DV6-6180US? I installed mines yesterday and found that all the pixels are vertical lines, which makes the text look fuzzy and sometimes unreadable, while on my monitor the pixels are in shapes of squares.

The picture I had with the Streaks was the LP156WF1 I ordered from Laptop Screen.com . Aside from the streaks (I think I just got a bad one) the Quality was alright. I ended up Returning it and getting the AUO "matte also" and I like the quality much better.

Just if anyone is wondering, the AUO B156HW01 V4 works in the DV6t.

The AUO B156HW01 V4 is an anti-glare screen and 95% color gamut.

It is the same screen used in last year XPS, although that screen is glossy and is AUO B156HW01 V7

The screen is super bright when on full. Absoulte pleasure to use. Everything is just brillant, from the ordinary desktop icons to high quality photos.

One other thing, gaming on the panel is amasing :D

    I have a Dv6t 6100

    2nd gen i5
    6770m 1gb
    15.6 1336 X 768

    My understanding thus far

1080p upgrade -> Needs new cable and screen

900p upgrade -> Doesn't need new cable. Just the screen.

    your help
1.Am i correct so far? I got to be sure that it will work. Please post best link to buy cable and screen.

    2.Please post a pictorial guide or video of a dv6t 6100 CTO.

    3. How is the 1600 x 900 screen, i think i can suffice with that if its great.

So I have an HP DV6T (with a newer LG037F FHD screen via a replacement Laptop HP sent me) and I also recently bought a Thinkpad W530 with the FHD display since it has a docking station and the display is the AUO v.4 TN screen everyone has been raving about.

Its definitely a much brighter display than both HPs in my possession, however the colors are extremely over-saturated. I tried several ICC profiles a board member gave me but it just made it worse. When looking at it alone, it seems vibrant, but side by side with both the old and new HP DV6Ts I ahve and my IPS 24" External monitor, the W530 with AUO v.4 screen shows colors are WAY to saturated.

I might have to try out a hardware color calibrator to see if that does the trick, but I have a feeling the Thinkpad may be going back. Kind of sad since its a really nice well-built machine and I love the keyboard on it. If you are thinking of the DV6T, you may just want to buy it with the full HD screen now since they seem to fix the Orange issue with it and the whites are even whiter on it.

Just did mine with v7. The cheaper cable length does not fit perfectly so you may need to sacrifice the logo light.

the v4 is wide gamut so it naturally show more color hence the saturated feel. (the 24" external may or may note be wide gamut depending on the model )

My v7 has red hue now but had not brother to deal with it because my old gen calibrator doesn't work well with wide gamut.

Is a new cable neccesary if replacing the dv6t-7000 1080p screen and just changing it to another 1080p screen?

I'd like to switch it out with the AUO B156HW01 v4 screen from a dell laptop.

Anyone have any additional tips on getting the screen and laptop apart?
