Thank you for the quick response! Although there wasn't any definitive examples of the upgrade in that thread I went ahead and ordered the screen that was mentioned on page 555. I'll be a guinea pig for this one, and post back with instructions/pictures once the LCD gets here in a few days.

I did remember I read someone did it sometimes before so I goggle-fu a bit and come up with this.

If you are competent to switch screen, windows and recovery is nothing :)

I've replaced LCD's before, so not concerned with that aspect of it. That guy ran into problems on a dv7-6000 for some reason, but I don't think I should have any issues. I'll obviously let you all know as soon as she's in.

neither trinity nor ivy will be out in your time frame.

if you need one now, that i7 would be a good buy. Trinity cpu performance will not beat i7, and since you have the 7690m, it doesn't matter what your igp is.

Tinderbox: From my limited experience transcoding to a Snapdragon-based phone, Handbrake is generally the easy option. Gives plenty of access to settings without being really messy. And the Catalyst Video Converter is far too picky about video formats.

Well, I tested the 12.4 Mobility WHQL drivers and the results are quite interesting:

-No crashes in xFire mode (and seems to be improved with much less stuttering... but nevertheless still stuttering in there)
-FPS increase in Kombustor, from 92 to a whooping 110...
-Dirt 3 Works fine in both xFire and dedicated only mode, 12.1a had a lot of lag in xFire mode.
-Didn't noted any speed increase in Skyrim, but nevertheless they work wonders.
-No corrupted transcoding codecs, this means I can transcode using the GPU with Media Converter 7.

Overall I'm very pleased with the drivers...

    Remember, I'm using Musho's bios, 780 core 880 mem.
(btw... if you read this Musho... the Bios for the k53ta works wonders, it however for some reason removes the USB 3.0 from device manager... reverted back to old bios and restored USB 3.0 driver O_O)

12.4 appear to be very good drivers. I'm wondering if they *might* be the win8 drivers in disguise. The included amd Overdrive seems a bit toned down from the one that was in 12.3, but resulted in very good temperatures. Lowered my 3dmark11 scores abit, but temps when doing just general puter tasks (i.e. NOT games :) are running mid 30's which seems very good to me
with the system clocking consistent 2140 3dmarks.
The drivers *seem* so far, very stable. I *did* do the amd 'two step' install, i.e. install, uninstall the ccc, then reinstall it, and all the goodies came up intact and functioning.

can someone test 12.4 with fixed mode dgpu only, and use gpuz to see if clock speed behaves normally ? (should clock down and up as necessary)

i gave up on that bios and only rock musho's now.. Nothing but instability running in bios fixed mode for me. Rocking Musho's 770/950 video overclock bios.

I just been playing older games lately though.. dead space, deus ex hr, and metro 2033.

    Hi.

I am interested in trying a musho's bios , but if the flash goes bad, can you do a recovery, also can i flash back to the stock bios, in case i have to return the notebook.

    Thanks

musho do nothing except you don't need to OC every startup. I have never heard any 1's machine went total brick with the bios.
Yes, you can flash back to stock.

I am struck with unlocked bios cause I need 5ghz ~~
you can run fixed with musho or stock after you change the bios setting.

He must mean 5ghz Wifi , you know the HP wireless white/black list , most likely part of the musho bios hack bypasses it.

    I am guessing. :D

The beta drivers are awesome drivers, I DID NOTE more smoothness in all my test than leaving the vanilla 12.4 WHQL drivers... finally, amd on track (at least with the 6750m)

8.97 would be nice if they fixed the sticky clock bug in fixed gpu mode.
    they broke it after 12.1

I really don't think these drivers actually consider fixed 6750m... I mean, the only gain in doing this is getting OpenGL directed towards the dGPU but other than that...

Did HP just change all of the part numbers for our dv6 laptops? I noticed when I searched for part numbers using this repair guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252.pdf, it said they were out of stock of those parts but said they were replaced with an item with a different number, so I google searched that new number and I found this repair manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03015537.pdf which as far as I can tell is for the same model dv6, but has all new part numbers that are listed in stock on HP's part surfer.

Some video transcode/decode/render open source code is a disaster in dynamic, other than that, dynamic run fine for some recent games I tried. xfire off though ~~

yes, the only real benefit is openGL, but at least it worked in 12.1 in fixed mode.
All I am asking is for AMD to restore that function.
They have a knack for breaking things that used to work.

The drivers support non xfire setups, like those radeons found in intel systems.

nah, that doesn't work. I had that dll file left over from 12.1 when I installed 12.4 over it. It doesn't do anything.
That dll supposedly only helps make afterburner work in 12.2 and beyond.

How did you install 12.3? I installed it and the CCC was completely messed up. Just a myriad of problems that resulted in a reformat and back to the trusty ole' 12.1a's.

aside from the 12.2/3 fiasco, at least now even the beta drivers don't cause BSOD when xfire... plus xfire more or less working ok, with 12.1a it was really laggy...

Make sure you get mobility 12.3 (or 12.4 mobility now which is good )..

remove old drivers, use driver sweeper or driver cleaner, or Atiman uninstaller program (it does a really good scrub of all amd video drivers).. then after you reboot from completing that, go to control panel>device manager and than uninstall each video card listed and be sure to click the option to delete the drivers.

Make sure you reboot after that, than Windows will detect the video settings and once it automatically installs its default drives, now you can install the new drivers. If you don't reboot, I find that when installing new drivers, it will not detect the proper gpus and CCC will give the message adapter not found or something like that.

If you end up having issue with CCC, than do what was suggested earlier and run the driver installer and click uninstall custom and remove the vision catalyst control center (or whatever its called).. than run the installer again and custom install for just that.

Hi guys I am having a little trouble with my hp dv6z, it was working fine but then I tried enabling dual graphics (using 12.1 drivers) to see if made gta IV run a little better. It didn't really help or hurt so I went back into the graphics properties to disable dual graphics and now the option is gone??? Tried a complete driver reinstall with driver sweeper and everything the dual graphics option is still not there. Am I missing something??

is your card listed in device manager? if so, enable it if disabled.

did you mess with the bios recently?

if it's not listed in device manager, go to safe mode and reenable it.

Yes they are both listed and enabled, I have stock bios that I haven't messed with, i can't figure out what I am missing, the only thing I did was enable dual graphics---run gta IV for like 5 min--- exit gta---- went back to ccc graphics to disable dual graphics---option was gone

Edit... Both cards are also showing up correctly in gpuz as well

By blow up my drivers do you mean completely uninstall them? I did that did complete uninstall with control center manager thing, boot to safe mode ran driver sweeper cleaned all amd entries. Then booted back into normal mode and reinstalled catalyst 12.1--- still no crossfire or dual graphics option(even disabled ulps to see if that helped) still nothing just the CPU power option I'll try to uninstall again though maybe I missed something.

install older driver/ccc and see if dual graphics appears.

Just uninstalled drivers from device manager, uninstalled all ccc components with the catalyst utility, booted into safe mode uninstalled drivers again, ran driver sweeper thing cleaned all amd entries, booted back into normal mode, installed HP's display driver package and still no crossfire/dual graphics option... But both drivers show up in the device manager and both show working properly... Think I'm gonna have to go with a clean install I can't figure it out

Maybe, was using msi afterburner to oc. I just finished doing a factory restore tonight, I remember the early hp drivers didn't have dual graphics mode so I'll try and install the latest hp version tomorrow and hope for the best. I didnt fry the dgpu did I? It is still showing up in device manager so I hope not

Back in the old drivers it was called Crossfire. Perhaps you are just missing it?

Try 11.6a that was a real complete package.

I'll try it, after all the windows updates finish haha, bone stock back to factory specs now. If that doesn't work even though I didn't get a bsod or anything would pulling the CMOS battery maybe help? It's my last resort.

Another note I set some stuff to run with the high performance card(6750m) and according to the amd system monitor that comes with all the packages the 6750m is indeed processing with no apparent errors. I'm really at a loss here

Edit, @rmacgowa I remember it being called crossfirex as well I just call it dual graphics now because that's what amd calls it ;)

is this what they call "semi brick" ?

    cmos battery could help.

when flashing the bios, did you do it through the bios or did you use a Windows utility ?

maybe the old modded settings are still in use.

The only time when the dual graphics submenu should disappear is when running fixed graphics mode.

Maybe call it a "cinder block" not quite a brick but damn close haha

Do you think pulling the CMOS battery would do anything at all? Or am I just gonna have to deal with it. The funny thing is I don't want dual graphics enabled at all, I just want the stupid option to show up so I can be sure it is not enabled

One more thing too, this laptop came with 6gb (1x-2gb and 1x-4gb) of ram I pulled out the 2 gb and put it in my other laptop while I wait for my 2x4gb gskill kit to come in the mail. Could this be causing my problem?

Link the funny thing is I never used a modded bios... Does msi afterburner make changes at the bios level?

Well I wonder...nope. Crossfire shows up in 11.11c, both Standard and Advanced views. So much for that idea.

So you never did anything to the BIOS itself? Did you roll back Windows itself right after noticing the issue? This is just really odd.

Your not kidding, I noticed the issue right away. I then tried a bunch of clean catalyst installs with different versions and no luck. I not only rolled windows back i did the complete reformat factory restore just now finished the updates and everything. Still no option for dual graphics/crossfire

Nope never did a thing to the bios, but I did just reflash HP's just incase something got corrupted for some strange reason. Very odd indeed Last resort time What do I do to pull the CMOS battery? (I already know where it is and to unplug and remove main batt) do I have to have it out for a certain amount of time? Or anything like that?
