Yes but you also seem to have Crossfire working rather well for you. And am not sure about what you meant earlier about not having any registry entries for ULPS or whatever. That's just odd. Also curious why AMD had such a short run of 3530MX. Maybe they couldn't maintain a high enough yield.

I probably have the worst one. I still get crashes at 720 core/900 mem... But I;m not sure if that's due to Afterburner or something.
-
I'm sorry to disappoint everyone, including me
, but the socket was announced to be an upgraded "socket FM2", because of the whole new cpu (integer-)architecture and faster DDR3 support...
http://pics.computerbase.de/3/6/1/9/2/1_m.jpg
So, you might try to bump the cpu voltage a tiny but, and then, try to up the gpu clock a bit.
But aside from that. my GPU is gamestable at just 760 -
That sucks.. Oh well.
On a longshot, I have an odd question. Is anyone who has whis considering selling their DV6z? This really dose't have a place in this thread, so if you are, just PM me. Thanks! -

Hahh, looking for a max budget of $850, so... yeah.
-
Why not order one yourself? There is a 20% coupon for $799 or more and 25% for $999 or more, but only through HP Academy. Basically have to be a student or have been a student.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebook-tech-bargains/612085-hp-25-off-999-configured-pcs.html -
See, I tried the coupon, but didn't realize that it had to be the Academy. Fortunately, I am a college student, and already enrolled in the Academy.

Not yet, actually found an Envy 15 for $550 w/1080p.... Very tempting. Anyways, I don't have money yet.

What is the part number of the regular and extended life 6-cell batteries for the DV6z? I'm considering buying a knockoff 6-cell from eBay but want to make sure I get the right one.

Hi I'm new here.
Friday 16 September e Llano notebook came out in Belgium. The DV6-6105sd.
Firstly I'm pleased with the processing power, people said it sucked, but I like it.
Secondly, the graphic power is wow, I.m currently playing on my integrated card and I turned of CF. Is there some guide, which could help me configure my Llano-notebook, because I want to play some games on the HD6750m.
Thirtly, I have some issues with the laptop:
I tried to make some recovery disks, but it failed repeatedly. I'm thinking that the writer of the CD/DVD drive is broken. Reading movies etc is not a problem at all.
AND I got some serious irritating noise coming from one section of the keyboard. Every other section is a regular pleasing typing noise, but I press that noisy region it ;akes a horrible sound. It's like something is loose and is vibrating against somethng beneath the keyboard.
It's not annoying, when you're gaming, but I use it for school too and I need to type a lot, so in that case it's freaking annoying.
Noisy section;
- f2 untill f9
- 1 untill 9
- q untill u
Based on those thing, would you turn the laptop back to shop I bought it from? -

Quick question, does anyone regret buying the dv6z? Those who do, would you have gotten the dv6t or something else?
-
I don't regret buying it at all. I do wish it was a little more cut and dry as far as drivers and performance, and crossfire especially. But with all said and done, it's a competent and affordable laptop.
The other thing is there is nothing else available at a similar price point with the performance, matte 1080p screen option, and battery life. If I could choose between the DV6z with A8-3530MX and DV6t Quad with i7-2630QM for same price, I'd choose the DV6t though because CPU is so much more powerful. But my DV6z ended up around $700 with A8-3510MX, 6750m, 1080p, 9-cell battery, blu-ray. You can't beat that. Cheapest I could configure a similar DV6t Quad is about $1000.
The DV6t Select with the dual core is tempting, but if you want to game recent AAA titles at all, even with a slower quad core, it beats a faster dual core any day. If you look in my sig, I've gone through a Sager NP8170 with GTX 485m and i7-2720QM ($1800), Sager NP8130 with GTX 560m and i7-2630QM ($1300), and an Asus K53TA with A6-3400m and 6650m ($480), and ended up with this HP ($700). Sagers are phenomenal machines but more expensive and battery life sucks. 2.5 hours is about as realistic as you can get, and performance on battery is a lot worse than the HP on battery.
With all that said, if battery life isn't of utmost importance and you have a budget of < $1500, the Sager NP8130 is the absolute best bang for your buck laptop that has excellent gaming capabilities. If it got > 3.5 hours battery, preferably 4 hours, I probably would have kept it even costing more. -
If you don't fall for marketing and get yourself an i3 in your t-model, you get at stock, lower temps (i3: -6°C idle/-12°C load vs A6), better cpu performance (3DMark11 CPU: 2734(i3-2310) vs 2315(a6-3410mx)), higher battery time (idle: 6.0-6.5h(i3) vs 5.0-5.5h(a6)), and because of the better dGPU bundled with the i3, you also get higher GPU performance (3DMark11 GPU: 1381(6770m/i3) vs 1098(6750m/a6) or 1438 (6755G2/a6 xfire), without microstuttering. Even at a lower price than an entry "Z", at least where I live...
On the other hand, you can't control the i3's clocks and voltages like with the a6/a8's. So if you like tweaking your system to the max, with the "Z"'s, you are able to achieve similar temps with higher batterylife through lower voltages (a6@[email protected]: 6.9-7.15hrs idle), slightly higher cpu-performance (a6@2100mhz/2866 turbo: 2833 3DMark11 cpu points) and at least without overvolting (which isn't supported until now with the "Z"'s), and with crossfire enabled, faster graphics (3DMark11: ~2000 GPUpoints(6755G2) vs ~1700 GPUpoints).
I hope this helps finding an ideal solution for you, without falling for all the reports the i7-2630qm guys give... -
Right, but you still have to consider the quad core advantage. Depends on your usage. For general purpose work a dual core is more than adequate, but if you use anything takes advantage of multiple threads like Adobe, video encoding, or any 3D rendering engine, and even newer games, you're better off with a quad core.
-
I got some other errors too;
- Random horizontal black lines appear and dissappear
- Random vertical green and purple lines, this made my laptop freeze and I had to reboot
- Random freezing computer
This is just while browsing with only google chrome
What should I do; Ask my money back or let it repair? -
If you're still in your 21 days, return it and/or exchange it.
-
But as far as gaming goes, even with the newst games, more than 4 threads wont give much advantage, but increased clocks are allways better
Just look at some of these charts:
Going from 2 to 3 or to 4 threads will increase performance, even min-fps. But going further to 6 cores will only give a 2fps increase. Same goes for the 8 threaded i7. But this is all only true for games and apps that doesn't support multi-cpu scaling.
-
Here it's 14 days, but Im still in it.
So not leave it at the shop, because they said if we cant fix it, we give you a new one. The problem is: I tried to trigger those blqck lines, green and purple lines, but they happen just randomly.
The problem is that the shop rules say; Product that were used or the seal was proken can't go back or exchanged. -
-
I am having issues with what appears to be artifacting.... black lines/thin boxes (horizontal) appear and disappearing very rapidly... I think it could be driver instability though, as there have been times with certain drivers where I get them, and then wont get them on others. This is with all stock clocks. A reboot fixes it.
Not worrying about it as an RMA issue for now. -
-
Someone said I should clean install windowa and update the drivers for graphic card. Although I think those green and pruple things are dedicated because of a bad graphic card. -
I had white streaks periodically on the first DV6z I had. Sometimes they'd stick but go away with a reboot. This replacement machine doesn't have it.
-
Well, i've never experienced anything like what you guys are describing on this one, so its not a uniform problem.

Hello all, I've been looking through the posts on here and please forgive me if i missed any info on it... Has anyone tried the HDMI out? I can't get it to work at all, have seen but a flicker a couple times of the screen and that's it. I have a dv6-6188ca and otherwise works great. I've hooked it up to my Toshiba lcd, LG, and finally my Marantz receiver and catalyst does recognize each component and that's it. No video or audio.
Only upgrade so far has been Crucial M4 128GB with fresh Windows 7 instal. Will get into overclocking afterwards. HDMI isn't totally needed but it's driving me crazy that it will not work...
I've tried a few version of catalyst and drivers and still nothing...Any input? -
iirc the HDMI drivers are installed with the stock drivers. Run the driver setup in the swsetup>drivers_sab folder and check if it's already installed (use custom instead of express). If it isn't, install it.

Try cycling through the different outputs with Win+P key. Set it to "disconnect projector" first then set it to "duplicate".
-
Well I managed to be able to see the desktop duplicate on my tv however it flashes on and off, when it is on its like a cheap psychedelic show. Colors are all over the place and lines moving about. But at least that's one step closer. Started to work after Win+p set as duplicate, then shut laptop for a minute, started when I reopened it.
-
then when you restart go into safe mode , then device manager and install the vga drivers. restart, then it should come up in vga mode. Now get your driver package and do a full install. If that doesn't clear it up, you have a hardware problem.

I think I am going to keep on with the dv6z but return my bb version and go for a 1080p model. CANT STAND THIS 768 SCREEN! Trying to configure everything through HP Academy, I think that will net me the greatest savings right now. Wish me luck!
-
Those coupons didn't apply, even called HP Academy. Ended up with a dv6t for about 1000 OTD. Not bad but not as low as I hoped. Got 30% off my student discount. i7, 1080P, 6770 1gb, 9cell.
-
I just configured one with those specs in a non-HSA account and the "PLAY30" coupon worked. About $940 after taxes. -
SOB! Oh well, I'll cut my losses. I guess it's a donation to a frail company
-
does wittek's Fusiontweaker tool permanently set OC multipliers on boot up ?
or do settings reset on reboot ? -
Meh I am happy I got a Z instead of a T. I got a great deal seeing as how I paid $690 after taxes... and then the price increased and now my same laptop costs $960.50 after taxes.
Im going to buy the 1080p screen for $70 -
dv6 user here, 611 euros for this impressive machine, can´t be more happier

It's official, the wi-fi card in this machine sucks. I've been trying to download some things and was running at like 100 KB/s, thought it was just their server. I plugged in the ethernet cable and BAM! Running at 2.5MB/s like it should. I really don't want to get a USB wi-fi dongle because it's just an annoyance and external device I don't want to deal with. time to whine at HP again.
-
Do you have the broadcom card? I can get like 4 Mbps downloading off steam with it, using a g connection.
But I'm sitting like 5-10 feet away from the router so I can't say much for the range. -
-
Same card that comes with all the dv6's? Time to do a Killer-N upgrade
