It does but only with defined and very standardized (... isn't standarized? firefox speelchecker says otherwise) profiles, Hi10P seems to be quite new, for me is actually the first video that I played in this format, but hopefully it has only peaks and our processors seem to have far more than enough power to play them (overclocked)

Hey guys,
overclocking with MSI Afterburner is working again with catalyst 12.1! No freezes anymore, see attached screenshot...Attached Files:

CK57,
Warranty...I passed. The 90 days from HP is/was good enough for me. Besides, Newegg ramped up their warranty price and I was staring at the 120gb Intel SSD with a hefty BF rebate...and a tight budget. It was one, or the other.
The warranty lost.
Don't regret it, it's been my experience that, as you mentioned, if it's going to fail, it'll give you clues/hints within the first couple of months.
Back to work.
LC -
Well, I couldn't find the mobility modded drivers you were referring to but I managed to install the latest stable drivers (8.92) but it doesn't fix the broken vsync in DX10 games. I also scavenged this thread as far as I could go without losing my mind and I couldn't find anyone else who had mentioned broken vsync in DX10 games. By broken I mean that if the frame rate goes up to 60FPS, it'll stay there without going higher BUT regardless of staying stuck at 60FPS or fluctuating between lower FPS the screen still tears a LOT. I'm guessing the modded drivers you're referring to fix this? Cause this laptop plays DX9 games wonderfully but it's really bugging me that quite a few of the games I play can't work the way I want them to.
-
Most videos will not generate that level of stress (Like 15-20% more CPU for CG, even more with super details or real-life video). Basically by using MORE bits to define the color space, it gets BETTER quality and SMALLER file size. Soft color transitions and finely detailed objects look better. I think it has something to do with improved symmetry in the encoder, so less correction data is needed.
The new stuff is being preferred for some bluray rips, delivering 99.99% quality in something like 1/3 the data (or less). You can get 99.9% with - oh - 1/10 the data...big problem is you won't get very good battery life. In essence the Hi10 should look great on a big screen but it kills your portability.
Mostly folks are (justifiably) angry their netbooks can't play Hi10 720p and their quiet little Home-Theater-PC may not be able to do the 1080p...at least not quietly. In a couple years it will be a forgotten transition, just like we mostly forget when 8-bit h.264 was absolutely slaughtering commodity PCs.
Current project for the laptop is trying to bung-in a copy of XP and run some performance tests. Supposedly VMWare support for DirectX is much improved, and there are plenty of older games that complain about 64-bit Windows or multicore CPUs. Will be great if the speed difference is enough to run them tolerably in a VM.
EDIT: Autofury, you probably should update to 12.1 and disable the crossfire/dual graphics. It sounds like your hardware synchro controller is fritzing. I have neither stutters nor tearing with just Crossfire, only a couple games need VSync and that is due to problems with the game engines. -
Also try to install the catalyst application profiles http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/crossfirex-app-profiles.aspx that fixed a lot of stuttering for me, I wonder if it will do effect on your system. What are your current frequencies for your card? and what laptop are you using?
Edit: http://downloads.guru3d.com/AMD-Catalyst-12.1-Preview-Driver-32-64-bit-driver-download-2826.html
those are the 12.1 preview drivers, highly recommended. -
I'm all for this transition, when I watch high quality and high def videos definitely I don't do that on the go. Netbooks really show how little power they have but if it were not for this new encoding techniques we all would still with divx or mpeg2 with big artifacts on the screen.
As for XP I tried to install it by many means but I always get a nice BSOD when it goes from accepting the TOS to the next screen on the installation... well, at the end I Used virtual PC and works quite wonders, for old programs it's alright. -
So I had a DV6-6117dx bought for me, from the Best Buy black Friday deal. I was just wondering if there was a way to get a modded BIOS that will OC the iGPU? I OC'd the CPU a little and got a little better FPS in Skyrim `5-10, but still not the best. Here are my K10Stats:
Or is there anything else I can do with K10, I can't seem to get my voltage any higher than 1.275, and I have a modded BIOS from BIOS-Mods.
-
GUYS PLEASE HELP ME.
My system is bricked. When I switch it on the caps lock key keeps blinking but nothing happens. I had everything working with 12.1 drivers and mushes 750/850 bios.
I have already tried clearing cmos battery and win+b hp tools bios clearing way but still caps lock blinks but nothing happens next. I wanted to try the usb
based bios flashing but I am confused what file to use.
Please help me. -
It's important to know what you did just prior to the bricking.
Also, you should use the latest OEM BIOS for rescue, not a modded BIOS. -
Do you still have the HP TOOLS?
Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source: Insyde Bios Recovery -
I just had little K10 overclock and as I said mushos bios overclock tested for 2 hrs with kombuster and prime95. Ran 3dmark 6 and 11 with descent results. Last night I just closed the list so it went of to sleep. Today when I started it it started fine but it got hung within a min. I had to hold the power button to switch it off. After that nothing happens the caps lock keeps blinking.

Liquid Cool,
What are your separate WEI scores with the new memory?
I replaced my 2GB with a Kingston, just about the cheapest 4GB I could find, and here are mine, after also replacing my HD with the OCZ Agility 3:
6.6
7.3
6.2
6.2
7.6 -
Do you get the HP startup screen?
Or is it just blank from the beginning? -
Yes I had hp_tools and I even assigned a drive letter to it.
The above link talks about renaming file. Has anyone tried usb flashing with 6135dx. What file to use from the extracted bios exe and what to rename it to. -
Just blank from beginning.
-
You can try the "shotgun" approach like this guy did:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...de-bios-recovery-using-usb-thumbdrive-17.html -
1.- First check if the computer works by just removing the BIOS battery and putting it back.
2.- If it doesn't try to remove or swap the ram modules, and then put them back again.
¿How many blinks after a long pause you see? if two is very likely that removing the battery will work.
If you haven't deleted the HP_TOOLS partition using the combo of Win+B keys the original HP Bios is flashed back.
All Musho's bioses are brick proof, normally removing the BIOS battery while disconnecting the AC and having the laptop battery removed you will see that the HP logo comes back again. (It will say first something like the bios parameters are wrong and will be resetted) -
Any update for my situation guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Heck, I'd even take a new modded BIOS, if it would help. But, I am sure I just got the crap end of the laptop stick here for modding.
-
I've installed both of those and vsync still isn't working properly in DirectX 10 games. I've tried installing the drivers after a clean driver removal (and reinstalled the necessary HP drivers as well), messed around with every single setting to do with 3D graphics in CCC, used third party programs like D3DOverrider and the problem I'm having still persists. If possible, can you run a DirectX 10 based game (Metro 2033, Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed, etc..), force vsync in CCC and see if screen tearing occurs? Also, stuttering is only an issue when crossfire is enabled, and I don't care for using crossfire as it raises my temperatures too high anyway.
-
Skyrim is a very demanding, not CPU optimized game. Is hardly gonna run on the iGPU. Also unfortunately the iGPU cannot be overclocked. Our processors are "partially" unlocked, that means that you cannot put whatever voltage that you want nor any frequency that you want but they let you go to a certain but nice extend. 2.8 GHz is already a very good frequency but we cannot go further by throttling limitations and at the same time this is triggered by the temperature sensors on the machine.
-
Honestly I don't use Vsync, that thing looks nice but drops down a lot of FPS. I ran the original crysys once in DX10 mode with everything at max and got 12-26 FPS with 2.2 Ghz and the graphics mod, over all it looked choppy but other than that ok.
Also, to much install uninstall of catalyst without proper reboots tend to mess everything, you may as well try a clean format and see what happens after that. -
Fixed it by getting battery out for 1 min.
I restarted it and again it same thing happened. Now I have restored back the stock HP f21 bios and now it seems stable. I was able to test MSI afterburner 770/870 overclock successfuly. can 750/850 overclock cause such a problem?? -
CK57,
My system is running stock, no overclocking.
6.6
7.3
6.6
6.6
7.7
The only time my video rating dipped down to 6.2, was when I had the new video driver from AMD installed and xfire enabled. Although, when I first tested it with the new driver with/without xfire, it said...6.4 w/o, 6.2 with. Using the HP drivers and xfire disabled yields 6.6. I don't plan on changing a thing from here, 'cept perhaps keep my eye on the a8-3550mx for down the road.
Kingston isn't fancy, but it almost always works, at least that's been my experience. I only use Kingston low-profile memory sticks(DDR3-1333) for my office builds. I've never had a bad stick, and they seem to run pretty decent. At the office, I run Intel DH61BEB3 boards with i3-2100T's and either NVS 295's or Quadro 600's.
Tonight I'm testing out/playing Singularity...picked it up from the Steam sale. Runs pretty good...although, for some reason I had to reboot before I could get the game fired up. Took me a 1/2 hour to figure that out. Other than that, I'm about 20 minutes into it. Pretty decent game.
For the guys who aren't familiar with the online sites that offer television, movies etc. I usually frequent Crackle, FMO, Hulu, and Netflix. I have accounts for my home television on Netflix and Hulu(runs 15.98 a month for both), but it will also be good on the road. If you don't want to pay...Crackle and FMO are good, but there are many free choices out there. I personally am a film noir buff. Kansas City Confidential etc.
I cut my monthly Cox bill from 192.50 to 64 dollars...but that's another story. If you're interested in saving money for your phone service, but need reliability, check out Ooma, but avoid the rest. My home phone is 3.47 a month.
Best,
Liquid Cool -
Nop, but when processor overclocking causes an error, Musho's bioses do that. If you flash it again it will not happen nothing but if the processor crashes because of insufficiency of voltage you just need to repeat the same procedure. If it shuts down again just swap the ram modules.
-
Good to know that. Thanks!
I always thought cpu overclock can never cause a bios issue as it is only getting applied once windows loads in.
It means if I have my CPU at stock and musho's bios overclock applied it should not cause this problem? -
Excellent! I just wanted to see that the Kingston wasn't dragging me down...and I like it too, but, really, I was just looking to buy cheap.
I flashed my BIOS to the minimal graphics OC version, but mainly in order to wipe out the whitelist. I ordered a Bigfoot Killer N wireless card to replace the stock, and expect it next week.
Right now I am in the process of wiping out my software install to prep for a fully clean USB install of Windows 7 Ultimate...since I am migrating all my older laptop software to the new one. Since I've got the original refurbie image backed up, I'm going to reclaim that precious SSD real estate currently lost to the tools and recovery partitions.
For what it's worth, HardOCP did a good analysis of the new AMD/ATI drivers, and their best results were at default, so that's where I am going to start. -
You can have your processor overclocked just as many of us actually do, but you need more testing, ensure that your overclock doesn't fail and you will not have to do that.
-
For people who want to delete HP_TOOLS or switch HDD , just copy everything in HP_TOOLS to somewhere else. If your bios bricks, copy the thing exactly to a USB drive. Rename it HP_TOOLS and it should able to start the recovery flash.(USB 2.o ports)
After you plug it in, you dun need to do everything, it should start itself after some loading.
Unbrick mine 2 times.
P.S make sure the USB stick is FAT, FAT32 is better. -
CK57,
I'm a regular at [H]...
.
I did the USB stick method with Win7 that comes with the laptop, you can d/l it...and probably the Ultimate version from this site. The only hang up I ran into was trying to load from a USB 3.0 slot...oops. Just backed up the install to the 'Install Now' page and switched to USB 2.0. Fired right up. I've got my full install down to 15 minutes and I've done it about 4 times. ABR works quite well too. I've been able to use the product key that came from the factory and reserve the stickered key on the bottom for...just in case.
Let everyone know how the Big Killer works out. That is another area I was thinking about addressing. Although, I wanted to take it on the road a couple of times first and see how she handles it. Some places I stay are towers...and you just never know. Other places are dumps...with bad reception. Smile.
Have a good weekend,
Liquid Cool -
So, what I'm hearing from you guys is that really what I got is a laptop to really not do much of anything but watch internet videos/Videos on, and do Office work on. And that i should try to return it if I can, and come up with an extra $100 to get the 6135dx from tigerDirect or newegg?
-
sweet, my folks ordered the 6135dx for me tonight.. and i just ordered the 4gb ram that Liquid Cool suggested. and i went ahead and ordered this, its cheap Stylish Protective Soft Bag for 15" Laptop Notebook - Black - Free Shipping - DealExtreme compared to the same item on ebay going for like $14.
-
anyone try anti-glare screen protectors?
-
integrated graphics are actually *NICE* (sorry... some cups at xmas), but if you can get the 6750m... which is such a monster, why not?
-
Well Vect, any kind of tweaking I can actually do, besides dl all the newest drivers and K10Stat, to try and get the "best" ought of this laptop. If getting the 6135dx is out?
-
Click the "Info" tab of K10stat. It will tell you the max voltage for the CPU, and you cannot exceed it.
My sister bought the exact same laptop for my niece (her daughter), and I tuned it for her. I was able to easily get 2.2GHz and have temps running fairly cool. But at 2.4GHz temps would start to sky rocket and had to push the voltage quite a bit. But for my niece, cool and quiet was better so I left P0 at 2.0GHz (1.0250V?) and B0 at 2.4GHz(1.2500V?). Just clock it to what you're comfortable with temperature-wise, and let it be.
There is no way to overclock the iGPU currently. It can play games decently actually, but it's nowhere near the performance of a dedicated GPU, especially the 6750m mainly because of the GDDR5 vRAM. -
Thanks Wing, when I first started using K10 I was looking over earlier posts by people and found that on this lil machine about 2.2 was the sweet spot. I do have a cool-pad underneath it too. Right now my settings are:
and it runs fairly well. I can get about 25-30 fps in spots with Deus EX (Mid Settings), and about 25-40 in the outside world of Skyrim (Lowest settings). I'm just new to K10, used to OC the old fashioned way with pins back in the day. So just kinda wondering if things look about good. Ran for 2 hours on prime95, and runs good.
Mainly I'm just wondering is do I want higher voltages for OC, like the top I can get before it BSOD, and gets high temps like around 85-90C? I don't mind temps around 75-80. -
Hypertek,
Glad to hear you got one. From what I'm seeing from reading around...these are selling out quite often. Who knows when inventory's will be depleted?
I forgot about DealExtreme...I've ordered 1/2 a dozen parts from them in the past when I was modding a PSP. Some of the parts came from Asia, but always arrived. Excellent prices, I put your link in my favorites for later review.
This is the bag I ordered. Amazon - Targus
Targus is the brand I used with my Compaq M2010us, I bought it in 2005 and it still looked new when I sold it last year. This leather slip case, well...thought it looked professional, but didn't take the battery into consideration. That's the only problem with these sleeves. Not bad if I run down to the coffee shop for a couple of hours or something though. Actually keeps me from sitting there all day.
Good luck with the notebook, and let everyone know what condition it comes in and how well it runs.
Best,
Liquid Cool
P.S. Didn't feel the need to get an anti-glare screen protector, this is my first glossy type screen...and I like it. Although, I don't have the sun shining into my office all that much, I don't even know if it makes a difference or not. Probably boils down to user habits...I use my notebook sitting primarily...in a cave.

Hey all, just got one of these recertified DV6-6135DX laptops. I've been having some issues though and wondered if you guys had any ideas on how to fix them...
First of all, I couldn't do the system recovery thing people mentioned early on. It went all the way through and then at the end said Recovery Incomplete and then a notepad file popped up that said something about boot.gpt or something. I didn't push "make backups" on that first screen of the recovery step if that has something to do with. I did make sure my wireless was on as soon as it would turn on however.
Anyways, I eventually just did the normal installation and used Decrapifier to remove a lot of the bloatware. Now I wonder if I removed something important here, but I think I did an okay job checking to make sure if it was safe to remove things beforehand.
I installed Steam and Counter-Strike Source as a testing game. When I opened it up and went into a server, the models and text were blinking and it seemed like every other frame was being dropped, like really fast scan lines or a shuddering effect. I messed with all graphics settings and nothing worked until I went into windowed mode and it worked okay then. The FPS was good and the background map was fine, it was just the models, text windows, etc. were blinking and messed up.
I then tried Super Street Fighter 4 AE, and same kinda thing. The FPS in the benchmark was okay but it felt laggy in game (the benchmark said it saw the 6620 card, not the better one), and then when I switched to "High Performance" it did the same jittery black scan line flashing thing. I think the whole "High Performance" is messing it up. I also think the games are only picking up the lower card and I have no idea how to make it switch to the good card. I tried getting a new driver on the HP site but same issue. Maybe I didn't uninstall old drivers, but I didn't see any on the Uninstall Programs page. ARGH!
Any ideas? I'm THINKING it's a driver issue or something to do with the graphic settings. Can anybody help before I call and pursue an RMA? -
Yeah, temps should stay < 85C, preferably <80C. You can lock in the speed by clicking each CPU speed "button" next to the listed P-state, and click apply. Then run Prime95, then you can slowly drop the voltage even with P95 running, and let it run for a few minutes. Drop it some more until Prime95 crashes, errors, or they system locks up. Then I would bump the voltage up 2 notches from that crashed voltage to be safe. Then move on to the next P state, lock voltages, and keep dropping voltage, etc. Then I would test each P-state running Prime95 Large FFT + Kombustor (make sure to select directx 10 or 11) for a good 10 minutes and make sure temps are good and no crashes or anomalies. That stress should for sure be 99% certain it's stable.

Demon0taku: If you can make up the difference and find a 6135dx online, it will certainly be more powerful. But I have used the integrated 6620G quite a lot, and it's good for many games. There is a 3rd-party patcher for Skyrim, replaces a lot of old x87-math code with modern CPU instructions. Can make a very big difference in some parts of the game world.
Guru3D.com Forums - View Single Post - G3D Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim thread Pt. 3
Riot55: You should run chkdsk. This requires running the command prompt as an administrator. Google-up a tutorial on using chkdsk in Windows 7, to make sure your command settings are correct. But MAKE SURE right now, there are no problems with your HDD. I did not uninstall any drivers, just ran the 11.11c installer and 11.11 CAP installer. Planning to roll up to 12.1 after Christmas if AMD hasn't posted any major warnings. -
Thanks both Wing, and Calc. I found out earlier about the patch for Skyrim, have yet to try it, been doing Xmas shopping. Going to give a try and see what I can get.
def. See improvements with the patch, went from around 20-35/40 fps in cities now, and about 40-45 outside. This is without OC yet. -
I would just do a fresh reformat and install, that is what im thinking about doing when i get mine.
-
Keep us updated on this! I know quite a few of us are looking forward to hearing if this works.
-
I have a question about latest 12.1 Catalyst control center. When I click Configure switchable graphics a I am seeing a PowerXpress menu page with some options and buttons(and they dont work!!). I am also unable to disable dual graphics it(nothing happens when I click on apply button). Is this happening with everyone?
-
A seller on ebay carries it and is selling for 50 bucks. Since this might be a hit or miss im trying to talk him down to 30 bucks because 50 for laptop keyboard is overkill!
-
anyone? im used to mac laptops =/
-
i dont know about 1mm but mine does have a tiny bit of play! MERRY X-MAS EVERYONE!
-
Seems normal to me. Mine has a little bit of wiggle too.
-
Hey so with the modified bios, what exactly is changed in it? Is it beneficial? i wont have the 6135dx til whenever they ship it out after christmas so im just wondering how it is. Last i recall , laptops have their branded bios boot up screen before actually loading into windows. Does it get rid of that?
