    Hello,

I'm looking right now the dv7-1020us at newegg ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147749) and have good specs but i need someone to help me out if knows the following info:

    *Battery life (average):
*Gaming (could run COD4, TF2, Crysis (at least with shaders/shadow med or low?, future games with some restrictions at medium levels?)
    *Upgradable CPU or GPU?
    *Reliable? at least 2-3 years?

    Thanks in advance

Well, I guess it's myth and my boot time improvements comes from disabling alot of services. But did didn't hurt me to try. Thanks for pointing that out though.

I thing the battery life is pretty good. My battery meter program estimated about 3:40-almost 4 hours of battery life on power saver mode while I surfed the net and listened to music(haven't try gaming on it yet, not likely since performance takes to big of a hit).
As far as gaming go, benchmarks run by others on the forum shows you can run COD4 on high very well. I've run Crysis at medium with decent framerates(definitely turn shadow low if you want better fps). Check out Chaz's benchmark of the dv5t if you want to know exactly how it does.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=286033

Neither the CPU or the GPU is upgradable once it's been built, but the RAM is (of course) and there's an extra HD slot if you didn't get two already.
As for the reliability, it's a bit early to tell, but the construction seems pretty solid on mine, even if it's plastic so it could potentially last at least that long.

The battery life sound superb :O

Sorry for make more questions but i seriously thinking this one to buy next:

Do you notice any lag using the laptop or trouble while tasking wth one program to another? I know the CPU is slow than the newest ones, but the remaining additions are the best one ever.

Also do u feel that is overheating taking care? runs cool?

And finally :D, Do you bought any warranty from the Hp website?

Thanks everyone, for your prompt response,
I’m certainly going to turn off some services and uninstall some programs, until I get the windows DVD,
And to people who are still considering buying, this is a beautiful and powerful machine, and I like the webcam is better than my dell webcam, and the full set keyboard is great with the num pad. I don’t have the infinity display and the screen really looks good, but does reflect sometimes, depending on the color on the screen.
I’m still wondering one thing, since it has two video outputs, HDMI and VGA, can it support two monitors at the same time, like a HDTV and a Monitor?
I know you should have two video cards to be able to do that, but I’m wondering?

I have always build my PCs before, and this is the first laptop I have bought from a manufacturer. There is a TON of junk on here I don't need, but the problem is I dont know what I can safely remove, and what I need to keep. Has this been covered before here? Is there a list anywhere? I would appriciate any help. Is there a guide or anything?

    Thanks

Nothing unusual for a window's operating system (the few minor program freezes are expected) and it generally run's pretty fast, but then again I have the T9400 2.53Ghz processor. As for heat, extended use on any laptop will make it kinda warm, the dv7t is fairly cool when used for normal stuff like web browsing etc (left hand rest can get warm since that's where the HD is). It will get noticabily warmer when gaming, but the top will never get hot, lift the back of the laptop by about half an inch to reduce heat (running Crysis got my machine pretty toasty, but then again, my laptop isn't in a very ventilated spot right now). No, I didn't have much money so I didn't buy any of the warranties.

I thought I'd post one last time now that I've been using my laptop for a week.
It arrived three days early than est. date. It came with two little dents along the top near the forward and rewind icons, barely noticeable with all the chrome.
This laptop is extremely fast for me, It blazes through vista windows, I can have explorer, a game, and notepad open with no problem. It alt-tabs out of my games super fast. I love this thing.
On the downside the screen glare is driving me crazy. I've been using it at my work desk with a tiny window behind me and I keep having to adjust the laptop to see it. It is also a giant dust magnet, I think I'm going to set it in the middle of the living room, so I wont have to dust the house. I guess I'm going to have to buy one of those $50. screen filters =(
Also while its super fast I wish I had gotten the large 5400rpm instead of two 7200rpm drives. They aren't bridged and I can't seem to find too much use for the second drive, other than a place to hold my music and pictures.
Also its REALLY heavy, but totally worth lugging around =D

So I'm a girl, I bought this as a desktop replacement for my home, and to take to work to play games (I have a boring receptionist job).
I know don't know a whole lot about computers other than it better work when I want it to, do what its supposed to do, and do it fast without giving me problems, This one does ! It will also do some of your housework for you, I love it !

I am sort of worried that I opted for the 160 GB x2 @ 7200 RPM instead of sticking with the 320 GB @ 5400 RPM. I was just thinking that the faster the better.....

Am I really going to notice?

    Hello!

Help me decide: which is better ?
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz) (new generation of Intel proccesors, Centrino2, cooler)
    or
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz) (previous generation) ?

For the second one I have to add $100.

I see most of you preferred the T9600 (2.8 Ghz)

    Thanks!

i would be fine with the p8600.
you're already getting a very good cpu with that.
    plus, it generates less heat.

Are they shipping Vista OS cds with the dv7t, or is it on the HDD in its entirety? I was wanting to do a clean OS install eventually.

HP does not ship Vista discs with any consumer model. You have either the recovery partition, making your own recovery discs, or the option to purchase Recovery discs from HP (but they are the same as reinstalling from the partition).

I would not have ordered the infinity screen on a custom built model, but ended up getting it on a dv7-1020US off the shelf. I actually really like it and have no complaints after more than two weeks using it by itself and also next to my 22" external.

Others might have beat me to it, but after two weeks of 8-10 hours a day with the dv7-1020US, the battery life is outstanding. I use it most of the day plugged in, but in the evenings take it with my and get hours and hours no problem. Somewhere over 3 hours. I haven't brought a stop watch, but very impressive and it feels like I never need a plug.

I played the Crysis demo only, and did not play with the settings much, but it didn't like higher settings.

I currently am only playing UT3, and getting excellent framerates at pretty high resolutions, but not completely maxed out to screen resolution.

Not sure on upgradeable either, but I am really not the kind of person who would consider upgrading. By the time either the GPU or CPU is too slow for me I will definitely move on to my next computer, since I use it all day long for work.

This is my first HP, so no idea on reliability other than what I read up on, but the build quality is excellent, and considerably better than the Dells I have been using up until now.

    Just ordered my DV7-1090ed:

    Windows Home Premium 32 bit
    Intel p8600, 2,4 GHZ

    Blu-ray ROM, SuperMulti dvd±r/rw
    Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN netwerkinterface

    For 1276 euros

Question: is it worthwile to upgrade to Vista 64-bit? Also, can you upgrade the RAM or (probably not) the GPU?

You need 64 bit Vista to take advantage of 4 GB of RAM. 32 bit Vista will only recognize up tp 3 GB.

    As far as upgrades:
    RAM=Yes you can upgrade to 8 GB (4 GB x 2)

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good laptop bag or sleeve for this monster? I would like something that isn't too bulky but still has room for the power adapter and a mouse. I was thinking about one of these:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834976021
    http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-17-Inch-Messenger-Bag-Cabernet/dp/B000S5BFXS/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_pop_t
    http://www.amazon.com/Caselogic-SNB...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219287164&sr=1-10

And does anyone know the length, width and height of the laptop?

How is the display and sound quality of the Hp dv7t is it good, normal, worse.

I read in a review Lapmag,Pc mag that the display is dull and sound quality is low

    http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv7.aspx

I mean it would be enough for me if the display looked like the display of sony viao AR or hp nw8240

I posted earlier asking for help to choose between dell studio 7,hp dv7t and hdx.

Many kind members gave suggestions and i decided upon picking dv7t

there is a review on it at PC world saying its
    Pros
    ====
    Searing speed
    Sleek, futuristic "liquid metal" finish

    Cons
    ====
    Dull, dim screen
    Lackluster in-movie audio

If only we could see the screen a little better. In a typical fluorescent-lit office, viewing the display is hard. Even when ratcheted all the way up, the huge screen was not very bright--not what you'd expect from a high-end machine. Compared with the display of a 15.4-inch HP Pavilion DV6000t, in fact, the dv7t's screen was grayish. That said, the dullness shouldn't impede enjoying a flick on the Blu-ray drive or getting work done, especially with the lights turned down low

Well iam confused as to what to believe as one post by a menber of notebook forum INFAMOUS wrote it has great display and sound quality

A post by one of the reviewer INFAMOUS in Notebook forums
    posted this
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=284832

    PROs:

    Nicely designed
    Handles heat very well
Has a fairly decent battery life
    VERY quiet
    Blazing fast
    Good sound quality

    CONs:
A Cop’s favorite piece of evidence (fingerprints)
    No S-Video port
    Buggy QuickPlay buttons

Could any one tell me how the picture quality of the dv7t is looks of the laptop are important to me thats why i dont like to choose dell xps 1730 suggested by my cousin it looks simple to me

    Please any reviews

no joke - im going to a tailor and having them make me a bag for this. it'll be like an envelope style to carry in my hand. since i will not be traveling with this much, i dont need a bag or a comfortable strap/etc. i just want a bag/handheld pouch that'll look good.

    :-D

it'll be just like an envelope - you open the flap, put the laptop in width-wise, and throw the flap over. i'll have it secured by velcro maybe.

The display on my dv7t is quite good, I don't really see any problems other than the glare from my infinity screen and the slightly lower viewing angle (maybe that's why they said it was dull; tilting it towards your face produces much brighter screen). If you're really concerned about the screen brightness and are not planing to get a computer immediately, I'd suggest you wait for hp to add the Ultrabrightview option for the dv7t. As for the audio, it's very good for laptop speakers (loud, clear, I get great sound while gaming), but as the PCmag reviewers said, it's not exactly great for movies, but then again very few laptop speakers are good for movies (dv7t speakers still blow the macbook's and dell studio's out of the water in audio quality as far as I've able to tell from comparing to the other notebooks in my house).

Ultra Brightview is just like Brightview, except that it has an added backlight lamp. The light is brighter and more even, although I have heard reports of it being too bright for some people. I like it on my dv8000t because the extra brightness helps cut down the perceived amount of reflection from the glossy screen.

We can't really assume they will add Ultra Brightview for sure- anyway, what is Ultra-anything when you have Dreamcolor :)

For those concerned with screen brightness, go to the Nvidia control panel and mess around with the display settings. I got my to go waay brighter, enough that it hurts my eyes to turn off all ambient light.

    Hey folks,

I ordered my dv7t on Aug. 8 and it was built a little earlier than the estimated date of the 22nd. It has come in from China (finally) and is sitting in Memphis, TN at the moment. Should be here (Pensacola, FL) by Saturday or Monday morning... only bummer is I am leaving back to Tallahassee early tomorrow morning ... and it is being shipped to P'cola!!! aaahhh!!!

Gonna have to get my parents to ship it (again) to me in Tally. More waiting... But, I'm pretty siked about it. Shouldn't take long to get from here to there, though.

One thing I am concerned about are the problems people say they have with Vista. I've never used it but I hear both good and bad things.

I am an architecture student and the main reason I got a laptop is to be able to run AutoCad, Google Sketchup, and other drafting programs. Has anyone had problems running these with Vista?

What are your specs, vista versions etc?
The newer versions of those programs should run well on vista, just make sure you do a bloatware sweep or a clean install first to free up some resources.

I'm not very good with the technical side of computers... what is a bloatware sweep? Clean install sounds pretty self explanitory; but I'm not sure how to do either one.

I have gone up to Best Buy like 3 times this week just to look at the **** thing they have on display 'cause I'm getting ansy! One of the sales persons said if I brought it in when I got it they would remove all of the advertisements and stuff I didn't need to make it run faster.

Sounded like a gimmick cheap shot to make them some money; looks like people posting on here have been able to do it themselves.

If someone could tell me how do to it, that would be greatly appreciated. Again, gonna have to be specific on the steps and crap (I'm a doofus when it comes to technology).

    Thanks.

It better hurry the hell up, though. I was planning on driving back to Tally early this morning to miss driving through that tropical storm on the interstate.... looks like I'll be driving wet.

as of now, it's horrendous. im going through the startup sequence. i am in a sort of dark room (not too much sunlight) and i see myself, my tshirt, the walls behind me. i can not get the screen to sit at any angle to not reflect.... the best i can do is tilt it at like 115 degrees (yeah, wayyy back) and there is still a perfect reflection of me.

i wonder how people said they only see reflections when the screen is black. at a windows desktop, playing a game, looking at pictures, i can still see a pretty good reflection of myself.......... and thats with varying types of background/desktop colors/images.............

It was getting ridiculously hot. Hot enough that it was bothering my left hand as I typed for hours. However, I finally realized pulling the remote out of the slot could only help. Since then it has been really tolerable.

I bought the dv7-1025nr from Best Buy on Monday (yay for $200 sale!). The machine is amazing (I guess I'm in the middle of the road with the infinity display complaints), but I did have a few snafus...

Anyone else experience media control problems or "grit" in the display? I am currently on my fourth laptop (yay for Best Buy being amazing at returns), and it has problems, as well. 3/4 had some type of media control/quick launch problems, and 2/4 had the "grit" between the screen and the "glossy finish" (aka, the infinity overlay). Has anyone else had these problems? The machine is sweet, so I don't really want to switch to something else, but I wonder if the media controls will be prone to having problems (mute button only works if you push it fairly hard; volume controls are very responsive; song control [forward, backward, stop, pause/play] are moderately reactive with light pressure). I called HP this morning, and they said they were going to ship me a new one, with details to come in a 3 hour callback... we'll see what that results in!

I think it would even be worth living with minor "grit" or "push" on the media controls, because this computer is very nice for the money! $1299 at Best Buy for everything a girl could want... except Blu Ray, Bluetooth, and a fingerprint reader... but everything ELSE it has... :) Buying through HP or Costco would put the same specs at $1400-$1600.

Of course, having gone through 4 computers in 4 days has kept me from really exploring all the possibilities of the computer, but I am pretty happy with the results (Best Buy was my only option, because someone went with me to the store to buy the computer for me). The Gateway P-7811fx might be "nice for the money" and all, but the speakers are nowhere near as nice as the dv7s - like someone else said, not the BEST range in the mids, but it has an overall good sound quality... probably the best I saw at Best Buy, next to the Toshiba Qosmio.

I'll let you know what HP ends up doing for me. Overall, between Best Buy and HP, I feel like I'm at least being served.
