Look around the forums there's plenty of advise on how to clean your computer. Bloatware is all the trial software and services that your computer comes with which you don't really need (i.e. Office trial, everything HP, etc). They usually result in a lot of processes at start up (my laptop started with 80+ processes, I managed to get it down to 65). Doing a sweep usually means either manually deleting everything or download freeware such as RevoUninstaller or CCleaner. As for a clean install use this guide.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

Don't worry if you don't know that much about tech, just ask around the forums, there are plenty of tech geeks willing to help. :D

im not sure why it's so bad. i have not gotten it to the point where i can see the screen 100% without a reflection and that sucks. i have that feeling like someone is pointing a light at your eye because at the bottom right hand corner, one of my windows is being reflected...

i have adjusted the screen in many ways. 90 degrees, which looks funny. 115 degrees which is a good angle to see the screen but it catches the top half of my body in the reflection.... i can take pictures with another camera if need be, those were blackberry pics.

i dont know what to do. this machine is absolutely flawless in every other way. the live tv is a little choppy but i didnt even play with the settings that much so im not complaining... i have been playing unreal and it's sooooooo crisp and the sound is great through my surround sound speakers.

oen thing tho - the power brick is sooo hot that if you squeeze it, it's hot to the point where you want to drop it... is this normal? anyone else experiencing this?

as for the temp of the laptop, i have not notice any extreme temps on the keyboard or mouse area. the keyboard is actually quite comfortable. :)

this thing is so sessy that im considering keeping it now... LOL

    I just got mine too...

Have to say, it's not running that great. I'm having trouble removing all the software. It's taking way too long to uninstall software. It's frozen up a few times, and the HDD light is constantly blinking away.

    Is mine defective or what?

i thinkt the hdd stuff is simply vista. my machine is working absolutely perfectly. i didnt uninstall anything yet - will do that later. i am just testing the unit out now to make sure things are good. watched a dvd on it, played unreal, listened to music - everything seems to be good with it.

i wudnt worry abt the hdd light. just make sure that the system works quickly or as you expected it to. thats what im doing and so far - everything is flawless :-D

    man this thing is quick.

i was just installing office 2007 and thought - you know what - i should be able to play unreal 3 at the same time...

    ROFLMAO....

so i am playing unreal while office installs. i max'd out the cpu (90 to 100%) for about 6 minutes. but seriously, this thing took it without an issue. unreal play was awesome - a tiny bit choppy, hardly noticable - and the install continued too. the max ram it used was 1.9 gigs. 4 gb might have been a lil overkill

    :-D

the processor generates a lot of heat and anything by the vents in the back of the unit will get hot. i played unreal 3 for 2 hours straight (if anyone asks, i was studying) and did not have any issues. i will do the same tonite and run hwmonitor an hour or so into the game - so i can get good temprature readings of everything.

my first impression: you can tell this machine is a quality box. from the remotes it comes with to the performance, and the build quality, it's an awesome machine. with the bloatware installed, it stills handles all tasks really quickly.

Hi, as a new ("proud") owner of a dual HD kind of dv7t, I'm searching quite some time how i could set up a raid set with the two disks.
Is that possible at all? In BIOS I don't find any option.
Am I on the wrong path?
In case it's doable where could I get starting info?
    Thanks, and all the best

everyone that has a dv7t - post temprature readings via cpuid hardware monitor. this is what i get. i had it on for about 10 minutes, haven't done anything yet. going to play unreal 3 for a bit now and compare the temps.

nah, they're not high at all. After about 2 hours of Crysis I was getting an average of about 80C for GPU and almost 70C for CPU. GPU did max out at 97C once on Crysis.

Do you really want to see the temps on my DV7T? I mentioned in my review that the temps were cool, but not colder than my freezer.

Can someone explain why my laptop is so cold?

(It's sarcasm. So before you PM me asking me how to get it like that just know that. I hate getting PMs from people that appear completely illiterate.)

Those are some nice idle temps, even for the 9600M GT. The 8200M G that I tested in a Compaq CQ50Z idled a few degrees higher at 55C. Even the 25W single-core Sempron in the test rig idled 12 degrees more than your C2D........

No problem. I thought my computer was getting warm doing casual use, that is until I used my dad's 15.4" macbook right now and it's getting really toasty just web browsing. The speaker grills on this thing is actually getting hot (so is the bottom)!

infamous better be careful - his OS just might FREEZE UP.

    har har har.

    enough corn for the day.

    --------------

last night, when it was pitch dark outside, i turned off all the lights in my living room and played unreal with my surround sound speakers plugged in and the quality of the picture was excellent.

I now realize that, in my case i guess, the infinity screen is far too reflective to be used in an area where there is too much light. however, at night, this thing totally rocks. the picture was so crisp as i played unreal on the highest settings. no lag at all and the colors were nice and rich.

since i work and go to school, i really dont have time to use the laptop in the day (it's a desktop replacement for home)... my conclusion, i think, is that the screen is absolutely ideal for use in the night. i played unreal for an hour and watched a movie and the picture was excellent.

the infinity display is simply a cover over the monitor so i dont think it matters, for nite use/movie watching, whether or not you get the infinity or non. the screen is really vibrant and bright and the colors are pure.

I don't know, I found I can use the screen nicely even in the day in a high light environment. But then again, my screen brightness is now configured to the point that it hurts my eyes to turn off all ambient light. heh

I just thought I would share my experience with HP since I just received my DV7t yesterday. As soon as I got back from FedEx, I unboxed the laptop, plugged it in & turned it on.

To my dismay, the LCD screen had severe vertical banding between gray & black  . The hard-drive was going, but nothing on the screen. So, I called HP Tech Support to figure it out. After turning the laptop over a couple times to read the product/serial numbers & thus, opening/closing the lid, my screen came back to life. After an incredibly long boot time (15-20 minutes), I was able to get into Vista desktop. While it was booting I was very nice to the support guy, asked if he was in India, what city & chatted a little.

To make a long story short, the initial Tech Support guy transferred me to his supervisor. He said HP will send a new laptop by Tuesday morning & I could send my original back. In addition, they were going to upgrade my laptop at NO COST (& he confirmed that it was not a refurb).

    Below are the orignal specs...
    - Product #: DV7T-1000
    - HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment Notebook
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
    - 17.0" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    - 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)...I was going to upgrade to 4GB myself
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    - FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive from 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    - Webcam Only
    - HP Color Matching Keyboard
    - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
    - High speed 56K modem port
    - $100 OFF Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    - HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

After talking with their support, they upgraded me to....
    - Product #: DV7T-1001
    - Vista Ultimate 64-bit
    - upgraded the processor from 2.53 to 2.8 GHz
    - increased my RAM to 4GB
    - added a second 5400 RPM 320GB hard drive
    - added a built-in TV-Tuner
    - added a microphone with the webcam
    - added a free wireless travel mouse & headphones

I haven't really added up the cost of the extras, but that is some serious $$ for free. I guess the moral of the story is...it doesn't hurt to be nice!!! I can't complain about HP support. I get my new "toy" Tuesday & I can't wait!!! :D

I'm gonna have to call a bluff on this one. They wouldn't even give out those types of upgrades if you have had problems for months. I know you just got it, but normal/ "outsourced" tech support isn't authorized to approve of that type of replacement. Even if it was a supervisor of tech support, it's not their department. Normal procedures would be to claim DOA and they would replace it with the same exact notebook. You also stated the notebook arrived yesterday and a new one is on the way with upgrades. They don't even offer the TV Tuner right now. The funniest part is this "He said HP will send a new laptop by Tuesday morning." If you seriously got the first DV7T, you would know that is a lie. Outsourced tech support informs you of 2-3 weeks for delivery.

I'm sorry if that came off harsh, but that seems very fishy to me.

I am not going to be happy on Tuesday if they are not sending me the laptop they quoted me on the phone. If this is a bluff, it is a bluff from HP on me. I am just stating what they told me.

A couple more reasons this looks fishy to me: "added a microphone with the webcam" - the dv7t's webcam includes a microphone, to the point that it doesn't even mention it on the options list - it's part of the same device. Read the description on the "webcam only" option and you'll see what I mean.

Also, HP *never* sends anything out until you send your product in. There is an exchange service extended warranty for that, but it's for monitors and (I believe) printers. There are rarely exceptions to this.

Infamous22, I have thick skin so I did not take it negatively, but you got me worried. So I call HP tech support & gave them my Service Ticket # & guess what....they did not have an associated Order Confirmation # for it. Basically, the order department had no record, but the lady I spoke to said that the Tech Support departement might not be done with the order request. The Technical Support Supervisor I talked with on Friday is supposed to call me tomorrow afternoon (their Monday in India).

I just want a laptop with a display that works & has what I paid for. The extra stuff is icing ont he cake. We will see....

    Hello!

Just purchased this at Best Buy today. I can't get the internet to work. It sees networks, excellent strengths, and even connects, but will not go to the internet. I tried two different houses. It shows it connects to the network but not the internet.

Exchanged for a new one being a noob, and this one does the same thing. I have a desktop and another notebook with Vista that works with my router, so any ideas why this isn't working?!

It doesn't have anything to do with 64-bit does it?

    Thanks!

I am new here. I tried to find out what is the memory speed in HP DVT7. I chated with two HP support persons, and they couldn't tell me. I also went through this topic here, and I didn't find any answers (Maybe I miised it). Does any one know it is 800MHz or 667MHz DDR2. If it is 800MHZ, I would like to order 3GB.

HP support person told me the motherboard only supports up to 800MHz DDR2.

    Thanks,

It's 667mhz. I got 4GB of 800mhz ram off of newegg for about a third of the price of HP to upgrade to 4GB.

I am sooooo glad Crysis makes this machine get warm. In my new super chilly dorm room, it's really really nice when the keyboard warms up (I'm hitting no higher than 79C on crysis!!).

I hate correcting people, but it is in fact 800MHz. The pre-installed ram modules are PC2-6400 which run at 800MHz.

My laptop is in "production" as we speak.

    God I'm dying of anticipation.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that other guy's story sketchy.

Yes thanks everyone for bringing this discussion back up...I forgot that my 4gbs from my 9700 aren't worthy enough... So I too just ordered the 4 gigs of the OCZ from newegg.

I wonder if my laptop or my Ram is going to get here first...Laptop supposed to be shipped by 8/27. We'll see

Well, not to be a sour apple or crap starter, but yes they will send out your replacement first before you send in the deffective unit.

I had the DV9310US that was giving me overheating problems, cracked left hinge, which caused stress marks on screen etc., losing the wireless card in device manager, and 1 ram slot that just died, I sent it in on a monday for repair, and had it back by the following monday, when I recieved it back they had replaced the motherboard, and the ram, as well as bezel, and casing around screen, but not the screen, also they lost my remote, and my extra Hard drive adapter, I called back to the case mgr. I had been dealing with, and asked what could be done, started out they wanted me to send it back for screen replacement, and they offered to overnight, the a new remote, and adapter, after him filling out all of the online forms he then scratched that idea, and told me to keep my eyes on my email for a "Special Suprise"
Got the email confirming my order for the free DV7T that I am now using to post this message, all in all it took 9 days from the phone call to the fed ex package being at my door, and I must say other than the GPU temps getting up to 90 celsius under heavy gaming, and the chrome finish showing all fingerprints and smudges I love this thing, hella better then the DV9310US it replaced, Once I recieved the DV7T I had 3 days to box up the 9310 and send it back which I did, HP has been Awesome, and Paid for all shipping costs!!!!!

Hows the resolution on the dv7t infamous?

My vaio had 1920 X 1200 resolution which was pretty **** nice. Especially for movies, et.

The HP doesn't go quite as high. Do you think there's a noticeable difference between the two. I don't know if you've seen one of the AR 770s

My dv7t had an estimated build date of August 26th and so far that date is holding up :(

Does standard shipping really take 5 to 9 business days? I want my laptop this week.

I would imagine you ordered yours on Friday the 16, my guess is that it will be shipped out on Monday the 25th. I ordered on Monday the 18th and I am expecting my to be shipped out on the 26th instead of the 27th as quoted.

Normally FedEx delivers in 2-3 regardless of shipping method you paid for. So you will have it this week in hand. (My guesstimate)
