If you plug your laptop and display together with HDMI you can use the nVidia control panel to see the HDCP status of the display.

I am getting this at random times (about once a day):
Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered.
Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, version 186.44 stopped responding and has recovered.

The screen goes black for a second, but I don't lose anything. I am running the Windows 7 64-bit install that came on the machine. My drivers are up to date per HP.

As soon as I installed my laptop I ran Passmark against it and this error appeared during the graphics test. It appears now when I am doing less intense graphics stuff like watching a Youtube video.

My machine isn't overheating when it happens, it just happens. It seems like the HP driver or NVIDIA HW is having issues.

    Any thoughts?

Download the latest Nvidia driver from this site. Its under dv6quad/dv7quad drivers. HP is working on a new GT230m driver for the dv6 and dv7 and dv8. Hopefully it will be up sooner before later. Good luck

    The suspense is killing me.
I ordered my DV7T Quad on the 16th, with a ship date of the 1st of Feb.
I keep checking the web site 400 times a day  to see if its built yet and or shipped yet.
    ARG - I can't wait :(

Does anyone have this issue? The quick launch mute button will mute the sound properly, but intermittently will un-mute without my touching it. This is noticeable usually when I close my laptop and open it again. It doesn't always happen, but does happen frequently enough to prompt me to see if i can fix this.

I reinstalled windows 7, along with all of the latest drivers available in the dv7t driver thread on this forum. I only installed a select few of the HP media / quick launch drivers, namely

    HP Quick Launch
    HP Media smart menu
    HP media smart DVD
    HP Media smart webcam

Aargh! I ordered mine on Dec 31, with a ship date of Jan 22. I've been checking constantly hoping for an early ship. Well, as of tonight, it still shows a ship date of Jan 22. HP sales support responded to my email that the build date is Jan 22. Quite annoying!

Wait a minute, your 1st DV7 died after 2 days?

    That's what I ordered.

Has anyone else here had a DV7 die?
Please step up and be counted....

I recently purchased the dv7-3178ca from Best Buy here in Canada and just like some others, the sound pops upon restart, shutdown, coming out of hibernation/sleep, you name it.

I'm on my second machine and that does the same thing, too. Still on the fence about getting rid of the second unit though.

It's more than a decent unit but the constant sound popping upon putting it to sleep and waking it up may become very irritating after a while.

No, I'm quite sure that that's the date it will be built by, thus meaning that it will ship that day. FedEX delivers damn fast so you'll probably get it in a couple days. I estimate that you'll receive it on Wednesday or Thursday.

Ordered on phone, sales rep said they "almost always" ship sooner than est. date. What have others experienced?

I have good news, I found the solution to the "Right louder than Left speaker" issue.

This is not only a fix for that particular issue, but a true enhancement for the HP SRS enabled speakers.

    So here it is:

    The SRS Audio Sandbox !
    Download Trial / Buy: http://www.srslabs.com/store/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6

I tried this, not only did it balance my speakers but it also made them sound so much better, it makes a world of difference ! Now I can say this laptop has amazing sound!

I think all of you guys should get this amazing piece of software, it's so worth it !

I ordered the HP DV7T Quad Edition on Jan 8.
Built by date is Jan 22, however no shipping notification as of today.
Called this morning and was told to expect shipping email in 24-48 hours.
    Yes not happy.

There is no free version of it available, you get a 14 days trial with no limitations, after that you will have to buy it.

I tried it for like 30 mins then bought it without hesitation.

To those waiting for shipment, I had an original ship date of 1/22, and just received the dreaded "Notification of Ship Delay" email. New date is 1/27, and there is a promise of a $50 Home Office Store coupon which is to be forthcoming.

It looks like only the dv8t's are shipping early.

If you download and install the latest IDT drivers from HP's website it probably includes most of these enhancements... because the sound is much better (louder!) The new version adds an equalizer and predefined settings for music/movie/game, which seems to fix the right speaker louder issue if you select 'music' over movies or games:

The delay in shipping is extended across all models from what I have heard. The delays have been because of a shortage of Blu Ray drives. The weird thing is that I ordered a Dv6t after my Dv7t replacement was ordered (two days after to be exact), and the Dv6t shipped out on the 13th of Jan when it had a completion date of the 20th. The Dv7t was ordered on the 5th, build date of the 19th and it has now been pushed back to the 30th.

Both the 6 and 7 were built with Blu Ray drives.

After placing my order without the HDTV tuner option, I had a change of heart and called hoping to modify my order to include it. They wouldn't do it without killing my order and starting a new one as a separate purchase--so...

What do you all recommend for USB TV adapters...?

Well don't buy the Quickdock, extra AC adapters or just about any other accessory, as they are 2-3x more expensive than you could get them on eBay for, anyway.
