Mine's on its way also, with approximately the same 3-3.5 week order->arrive timeline.

I don't know for sure, but it would appear that these delays coincide with good coupons from HP. They didn't have one last week; if they have logistics squared away perhaps a new one will come this or next week.

Yea... HP seems to be delayed a lot these days. I remember about 3 months ago, your laptop was expected to ship out the following weeks. Now it's like an entire month

I would think that speaks volumes about the laptop we all want and its popularity with the masses. I know I'm looking forward to getting mine just like everyone here. Anyway, I'm hoping it's simply the old supply & demand theory at work where supply on hand cannot meet the tremendous demand. While I have another beer, I'll contemplate that! :swoon:

This is the explanation I just got on why mine is 10 days late in shipping: "Right now, there is a worldwide parts shortage being experienced by all computer manufacturers, not just HP."

IMO, if there are no parts, or even a parts shortage, they shouldn't be advertising it for sale. Basically they are selling stuff to us that they don't have.

I have a great bridge for sale, does anyone want to buy a bridge?

I would love to know what "parts" are short. In most cases it's the processor but who knows.

Hi guys. I am new to this forum. My dv7t is supposedly arriving on the 2nd of february. I ordered it just before new years so it has taken a while to arrive. I have heard good things about this laptop so I cant wait to get it. What do you guys think of this machine? Any universal problems? Thanks.

I ordered my dv7 on the 16th, supposed /build/ship date of Feb 1.
From what I have read, I am expecting it to be delayed.
This is a great forum, I would read thru it all.

Most important, I would wait until you get your machine, check it out first, then check the thread for similar issues.

Like Groz, I read the entire forum. I used a program called Snag-it to cut out all the important topics, printed them, and started a small binder. Lots of good info in here and some good people.

I ordered my DV7t on Jan 16 and the email stated build date estimate of Jan 29. I emailed Customer service yesterday and they said within a day or two it should be done. Im sure thats the standard answer.

I think I got a great deal on this lappy, paid $920 had a 3% rebate added, I didnt do Bing rebate right so lost out on another $50, Oh well. Got the TV Tuner and 6 GB of DDR3 memory but for some reason they didnt offer the Bluray player as an option. Probably would have added it if it was. HP gave me a $200 off and a $350 off coupon to stack, which was a limited coupon they email out. I hope I get the $50 coupon for the delay that they are giving, Id get the second hard drive caddy which I believe is $50 bucks.

Oh and this laptop is replacing my 3 year old Dell 1501, which has worked flawlessly for the basic stuff. But want a power house with HDMI output, video, speed etc.

okay, i have stumbled upon a pretty serious issue. the top layer of plastic (the one just above the little lights and holding the keyboard, mousepad, etc.) is not glued to the body properly and i can lift it with my fingernail

this in itself is not the problem. the issue is that, if i rest my wrist/forearm on the side of the laptop closest to me (the side with the lights), i'll get a mild but very noticeable electric shock from the computer. and it hurts. like a hot stove. happens all along that side if i touch it with bare skin. doesn't happen all the time, but it has happened and i'm sure it'll happen again.

is the loose cover itself causing it, or is there a further problem? also, the tip of the charger (the bit that goes into the laptop) can give me the same sensation sometimes if i touch the metal bit

the only issue i can think of that could be causing this is that i'm using the charger that came with it (from the u.s.) in ireland, but with the plug cord swapped for a u.k. wallplug

should i talk to HP about a replacement, or is there a way to fix this myself?

sorry for the overflow of layman explanations... :pP

i should probably stop touching the tip of the charger huh :)

okay, but is the charger problem caused by my house, or by the fact that i have a u.s. charger with a european power chord & wall socket?

    Fang,
I was under the impression that in Europe they used a different voltage system and travelers from the US had to buy an adapter or something. That could be your problem but I'm just guessing.

All notebook AC adapters are dual voltage, so I don't think that's the problem.

Does the cord you have (and are using) have a ground plug?

yep, three-pronged just like its american counterpart

i'm really more concerned with solving the electric shocks from the unit itself, i mean, i can avoid touching the charger, i can't avoid touching the computer while using it

hmmm... i just read that european voltage is twice that of the american one. maybe too much power is going to the brick? should i just buy a wall-adapter thingy? or an hp charger designed for the u.k.? have i already done damage to my machine??

Do I understand correctly that your getting shocked when the charging unit is unplugged from the laptop ? If the charger is unplugged how can the charger be shocking you ? Your getting shocked from the laptop and I would be on the phone to HP ASOP.Having said that, you shouldn't be getting a shock from touching the plug either because its low voltage and low current ( relatively). Ireland has a 220 volt electrical system so yes you need a proper voltage adapter .A previous poster stated the charger is dual rated ( mine is at work so I cant verify this but you can ..the voltage rating(s) must be printed on the device...) Do you have acess to a voltmeter that will tell you right there ?

Wall sockets for European voltage ( 220 vac) are physically different than our 3 prong 120vac sockets. They wont interconnect. Do you have an interface with a step down transformer ( that halves the voltage) with a 3 prong socket on one end and a European plug on the other, cause thats ok.
Just how are you connecting the 3 prong plug into a european socket ?

The laptop freezes completely when playing games after a few hours and sometimes a few mins. This is scary.

Any idea what might be causing this? My NVIDIA driver is dated 11/09.

Ok so I finally received my dv7t and I gotta say that so far it is perfect. It is super fast, the only thing that slightly dissapointed me was my windows index score od 5.9 because of data transfer time, still not bad as the other scores were high. apart from that everything looks good. going to enjoy this beast.

Well got the dreaded delay email saying its est shipping is tomorrow now (2Feb10) which it was supposed to be back on the 29th and I also got an email with a $50 coupon code for a future purchase. This would of been better if they applied it towards the purchase of the computer, but a great way to bait and switch for more profit..

I wonder if this could be used for a second hard drive in the extra bay the DV7 has if I got the caddy? Can get the caddy for $30 on Fleabay.
