    I hope mine is perfect. This whole process has been such a rediculous cluster that I still actually haven't decided if I'll keep it. Before I made a decision to go with something else it shipped and I figured I might as well get my hands on it after all this time, and if I decide to return it, it'll just cost HP more for return shipping and selling it as a used product. I realize I'm being pretty negative about it, but one single problem - even a scratch on the bottom of the laptop - and it's going back.

    And of course the $50 coupon isn't really a $50 coupon...it's also kind of a rip-off considering it was given to us to make up for how they failed us.

    Yes, 187.66 (version 8.16.11.8766). So far, knock on wood, since I updated I haven't gotten any more of those messages where driver stopped responding but recovered.

    195.62 here as well. No issues at all.

    I would highly recommend staying on top of these drivers, but I would not go so far as to do beta updates.

    Well I ordered mine on Friday I didn't get the customizable one because for some reason you can't get the blu Ray drive anymore. So I ordered the quick ship 3180 model with the blu Ray drive. Hopefully this one won't have any of the problems my 1270 has. I'm still waiting to get that one back from hp. Quick question though. Does it still have the light up hp logo on the lid?...just checked fedex mine will be here Tuesday.

    I'm using the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver 14.0.19.0 and I'm not happy with the results - pointer jumping around, scrolling very fast in Firefox, etc. - despite trying different settings in the control panel.

    Does anyone recommend a better driver, or have settings that work very well?

    has any one seen their processor go above 1.6GHz?

    the specs for "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz"

    say turbo boost, but i have not seen mine go above 1.6.

    there is no "speedstep" in the bios

    am i missing something?

    Nevermind - Intels desktop gadget is reporting it going above 1.6.
    But the system monitor I have does not report the turbo boost.

    another quick question, since you cannot buy the blu-ray drive from hp anymore with this model would this drive be ok to purchase from ebay|| it is listed for a dv7 but not sure if that would still work with the dv7t

    ebay drive

    and if you dont wanna load up ebay i pulled this info from the listing
    The Model number is CT10L. HP P/N 459175-4C0 and it is a sata drive!!

    I don't see why not. The quick ship models of the dv8 and dv7 still have the blu Ray drive and from what it looks like the drive is the same as my dv7-1270 blu Ray drive just different bezel

    Hello All! What a great forum to find at a time where I find myself torn and worn over making a new laptop decision. :eek:

    First off, I am not a gamer (currently). I am going from a desktop to notebook and want to make the best possible decision I can.

    While building the dv6t and dv6t quad at HP, I have found that if I go with the quad series right now I can get:

    * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
    * FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320M - For i7 Processors
    * 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    * LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    * Webcam + Microphone
    * Intel Wireless-N Card
    * No TV Tuner w/remote control
    * HP Color Matching Keyboard
    * 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * Mobile Stereo Earbud Headphones (1 pair)
    * Integrated 56K Modem
    * Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    All for $1043.11 TX/shipping included.

    The dv6t with the i3-350m processor and all the other above specs would be about $30.00 more.

    Am I a fool for not going with the Quad? I'm uneasy about the AC adaptor and some of the issues that have been reported. The reduction in resolution versus the dv7 also concerns me.

    Am I buying too much machine - yet saving cash at the same time?

    Why is HP giving me more for less? With as much research as I have done (to the point of analysis paralysis) Am I missing something here?

    I'd be grateful for anyone's input on this. I need to buy by tomorrow morning.

    Thanks in Advance
    Srb.

    the quad with the i7 and geforce 320m, 500gb and 4gb DDR3 for about $30.00 cheaper than I can get the dv6t with the i3 processor

I don't know if it's because I'm creating my restore discs so I can fresh install or what. But I can't even surf the web while creating the restore discs. It feels like I have an atom not a i7

    I'm having the same problem I'm going to call hp about it tomorrow even the beta driver 195.81 won't work also. I think it might have to do with the bios. Mine came with f.15 and the bios on hp support is f.13 so I think they are shipping with newer bios then support has pushed out.

    Try here;

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html

    If you follow the driver links for the closest card, you will find an "auto driver" detect that uses an activeX control (I think) to detect what you need. As someone else mentioned, they usually put a whole bunch of cards into one package.

    The support page on HP for your specific laptop will also have drivers, but you won't always get the latest.

    You may want to wait, if it ain't broke. New cards are notorious for going through driver iterations to work out the bugs.

    I like to keep audio drivers and wireless network drivers up to date along with Video.

    Aside from that, I would only update what needed fixing.

    This is a personal preference. Every time you update something there is a chance that you will break it.

    $30 is nothing. This is a different system - 15.6 vs 17.3.

    There are a load of strings on the quad vs dual core question. I beleive in quad cores, and use software that makes use of the multiple threads. When not using stuff that uses hyperthreading, I can get the turbo boost up to 2.8 GHz. This is a personal preference.

    FYI, I just ordered a Lenovo laptop from the vendor that our company uses. I got a laptop from them for $710 less than the next model up which SHOULD have been only a $200 difference. The reason I got it so cheap is that it had been built as a "top seller" and so they had a bunch ready to go and priced it that way.

    Bottom line is that there is often little rationale for pricing differences.

    If you WANT a 17.3" screen and hyperthreading, go for the dv7t. If you WANT a smaller screen, go for the other model.

    BTW, there are no issues with the AC adapter that I am aware of....

    Hey guys,
    I am having an issue because of the WONDERFUL people at HP.

    I just got the notebook about 2 days ago, the only problem I had with it so far was the fact that the volume overlay would crash any programs I had in full screen if I adjusted the volume. I looked around on google and found nothing.

    I called HP, bad Idea. Essentially, he remoted in, and told me my BIOS needed updated. He downloaded the program for version F.13A. Upon him running the flash utility, I notice my current version was F.15 or maybe F.16. When he got done installing the notebook powered off, after powering it on, I HAVE NO DISPLAY. The Laptop boots like normal, I have sound, but no display. i tried installing the latest NVIDIA drivers but it errors.

    I KNOW I need to update the BIOS to the correct version, but I am unsure where to find it, or even what it is.

    They are currently sending me a box so I can send it back, but if I can fix it in the meantime it would be awesome.

    DV7T-3100

    i7 720Q
    GT 230M
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    Win7 x64

    the exact model number is WH764AV.

    I am a very computer savvy person. just let me know what I need to do, or if you need more info let me know.

    Thanks,
    Shane

    HDV capture with my Canon HV30 has been impossible. Has anyone successfully captured HDV from any camera, on a DV7t and Windows 7?
    If so, what software?

    I updated most of my drivers a week ago including the nvidia 195.64 which is smooth with no problems. I didn't touch the bios and probably won't for a while. It's running to good to screw it up with a new bios. I'll wait a while.

    So far so good, using Hf20 full HD. Maybe could use more ram. My software is Cyberlink Powerdirector, and CL Mediashow5. Still cannot capture HDV using this laptop.
