Well, you didnt come to the table empty handed did you.
You stated back around Christmas this was a captaviting buy. I had mine in my hands at thanksgiving.I got it fully loaded with win pro ( only 4 gig ram) for under a thousand. At that time similar offerings from toshiba or dell were way, way higher. It was a great buy at the time. Since then sony and dell have comparabally priced machines and Im sure thats cut into HPs sales.
Ive spoken with HP technical service on several occations,(They wernt very useful). Anyone who has should agree with you regarding the need to keep this forum going. Thats my 2 cents worth.
    Thanks for the input.
    Ya-all come back now, hear.

Thanks for the moral support, lol. The NBR Forum Mod doesn't seem to mind letting this thread go the way of the dinosaur that HP seems ready to make the dv8! My idea was not a panacea, but it seems a way to try to enlarge the community and bring a greater chance that anyone posting a question will get some useful answers. I love my dv8 and it has given me almost zero trouble (the worst being the paint wearing off the characters on the keys, and they replaced that in 24 hours!) The key with HP support is to speak slowly, be a little patient, be grateful and praising and, only when all else fails, demand a case worker, which they will just about always provide, and who really does have authority to make things happen. Keep the faith!

Is there an alternate program for controlling the camera in the dv7t for photos and videos? The HP program is very limited.

My DV7t has intel wireless N card with Bluetooth. Does it support 5ghz N router or only 2.4 ghz?

    Thanks

i just purchase a second hard drive WD 1 TB. I know that it is 12.5 in hight but unfortunately i didn't receive my DV7T yet. Do you think it will fit as a second hard drive? I mean to install it either using the caddy or without using the caddy since the caddy may not fit.

Does applying AS5 reduce the temperature significantly for the i7 on this laptop or not?

You mean 12.5 mm right? And you have a 2.5 inch scorpio blue 1TB right?
I am not %100 sure, but it seems like when I installed my secondary hard drive with a hitachi travelstar ,which was 9.5mm high, Im pretty sure they told me that was the maximum height, but not %100 sure..Call HP and ask them what the maximum hard drive size that will fit in the secondary bay so you wont have any surprises come DV7T delivery day.I hope Im wrong.

Not if the heat sinks/ heat pipes were properly installed during manufacture.
Are you monitoring your tempatures and if so are they out of line?

They are 49-52 at light load and idle, ok i guess. I am thinking of applying the AS5 as an improvement.

I have to be honest, the thought crossed my mind to look into what is actually involved in doing this but I would have to have a compelling reason to actually do so. To just replace what the manufacture used and replace with AS hoping for an improvement will yeild you maybe a degree or two ( they comparision review heat sink compound) Google it and see( an independant review- not one by AS)
Its not worth the effort nor the chance you slip up while your doing it.The only way I would consider this is if my temp readings were way too high which would indicate improper heat sink application AND I had no warrenty.

surely you are right josephlreyes. i already contact hp and gave them the full item desciption but unfortunately they were not sure. so, may be i will try to install it in my HDX16 and i will try if it will fit thats fine but could you please check you secondary hard drive bay. actually i think 3mm which is the difference between 9.5 and 12.5 is nothing and may be i can fix it without using the caddy.

    thanks josephlreyes.

Thanks josephlreyes. Actually, i just open the case for my WD 1TB and I found something strange, the mini usb is already fixed in the hard drive. So the question is which kind of cable I have to use to connect the hard drive to the motherboard. Actually, I used to deal with WD hard drives but this one is strange, and I already uploaded an image for the hard drive.

you would connect it to the motherboard with a SATA cable as it is the fastest method. Although it has USB, USB is damn slow compared to SATA. It's probably just there for convenience

You can only install a SATA hard drive in the secondary bay. I am under the impression the only WD 1TB laptop hard drive is the scorpio blue Sata .This isnt that.Could you please post the model number and other info from this WD 1TB laptop drive cause I sure cant find it.

Dear All, be cautious if you plan to get western Digital 1TB or 750 GB Hard Drives. If you plan to make it internal you have to choose Western Digital Scorpio Blue instead of My Passport ES. This is true since My Passport came with a new Micro usb interface. So, there is no Sata connector and on the same hand there is no extension. I am pretty sure that it will fit HP DV7T since its already fits my HDX16 which is almost the same.

I thought that might have been a passport, Do a google search for videos of guys that dissemble their passport. They show passports ARE Scorpio blue SATA drives that use a sata to usb connector. If you remove the usb converter connector you will have a sata drive. There are alot of videos of guys doing this, one guy did it on a 500gb passport...not that old. Check it out, you may get lucky.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka26lGK7Qcg&feature=related

Heres one of the many videos showing this.
If you keep looking you'll find some of the ones that take the end sata to usb adapter board off and show its a sata drive.
Maybe yours is like this, maybe not. Probably yours is different.
(And you may want to make sure a 12.5 mm drive fits in the secondary bay before you order the WD 1tb Scorpio blue laptop drive.)
    Good Luck

thanks for your post but unfortunately no luck. I just receive my DV7T yesterday from eBay, but I was shocked. The screws for the ram and hard drives were scratched which means it is already opened, also some scrows were painted in black to cover the scratches, also, when I turn it on I got the message start windows normally. I already contact the seller but he said the screws were never opened and the start windows normally message because he switch it on to check if it is working or not. Then I just open a case on eBay with the following:

Actually, I just received the notebook and it seems to be that the notebook is used not brand new. Actually, I have three reasons for saying that. First, when I turn on the notebook I get the message “Start Windows Normally” which means the notebook is already switched on before and I am sure of that because I already have HP notebook at home, I contact the seller regarding to this issue and I got the following reply from him “The messge: "start windows normally" is because, HP suggest to swich on the laptop whether its getting ON or not. If not, one can return. So I started it and once I saw the registration page, I switched it off. So it was forced shutdown” according to me this is not convincing at all. Second, I was quite sure that the notebook is slightly used, so I flip the notebook and I check the screws and it was scratched and some screws are painted in black. Third, the blu ray drive bay is not correctly fixed, and I don’t think HP will do such a thing, so some times it came out and I have to press it hard to fix it. The seller reply regarding to the screws and the blu ray drive bay with the following: “Regaring screws and drive bay, nothing is tampered.” If you need a pictures for the screws and the blu ray drive bay feel free to ask. Also, if you want me to go to HP Authorized Service center and take a report from them to proof that the notebook is used I will do that. Dear Sir, I am asking you to solve the problem and I am very upset for two reasons, first I became a fool cause I pay the price of a new notebook for a used one. On the second hand, I lost my trust in eBay which always gives me options more than AMAZON.

What a bad luck. The hard drive has a usb interface which is new interface from WD, and the notebook is used. I am totally disappointed. I ask for a refund and it is my first on eBay, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Ok..The start windows normally message comes on when the computer wasnt shut down properly or had some sort of error the last time it was run( on the sellers side).First I would go into the device manager and insure that the components he claimed he sold you was what you actually got ( otherwise why would the screws be scratched) Your comment regarding the blue ray " HP would not do such a thing" is wrong.HP does all kinds of bad things. This forum is a monument to those bad things.
Did the seller claim the item was brand new ? If so is it under warrenty from HP? Ebay has buyer protection if you payed using paypal.File a claim if you are unsatisfied. If he said the laptop is new ..it has to be new or you didnt recieve the item as described and thats cause for your claim. Take photos and keep alll correspondence with the seller if you need to prove your case ( I always do, I never had to use them, Ive found the ebay buyer protection to be a little lengthy but very fair to the buyer). When you file your complaint dont say " It seems to me that the notebook is used " or " I feel this notebook is used because...". Be more assertive say something more like " This product was advertised as new yet when I recieved it the blue ray wasnt working correctly, the ram and hard drive screws were scratched and some were painted over indicating the seller opened the compartments...it clearly isnt in new condition"

you are the man. for sure he stated that it is Brand New with 1 year warranty. Thanks for the idea of being assertive. well after work i will go to hp service here in Saudi Arabia and i will take a full report. On the same hand, I will go to one of the technician that i used to deal with and i will take another report plus taking photos, you know to be ready when ever those documents are needed. Thanks m8 but i hope that my explanition is enough, other wise i will be assertive if they refuse my refund order since i will directly upload the reports from HP which will assure my opinion.

Actually I pay 1425 for the notebook + 100$ for shipping to Saudi Arabia and i know that they will refund 1525$, but the question is "who will pay for shipping the item back to US?"

What you dont want to do..is have them service the laptop or register it in your name ( is it already registered to someone else ? Who knows if your seller is an authorized reseller and if the laptop even has a warranty ) I would be suspicious of this seller and scrutinize what he sent you very carefully. You should send ebay photos and any reports you get from your friend that substantiate your position.Just tell them you have proof that substantiates your claim
I wouldnt worry about the shipping back if I were you, concentrate on getting your $1525 back. And do yourself a favor and read thru this forum and see how much other people are paying for their systems directly from hp using coupons found on the internet and bing cashback. You could do better.

thanks bro I appreciate it. As you know I am from Saudi Arabia and i was trying to get a notebook directly from HP, but no luck they don,t accept international credit cards :(, so there is no way to get a notebook directly from HP. Actually, after your reviews regarding to the graphics card I mean nVidia 320m, may be after the refund i will get assus with ati chipset supporting direct x 11 or the one with nVidia 360.

Just ordered my dv7t today with a $500 discount.

    Got the i7-720
    4GB 1066 ram
    1GB nvidia 320m
    500GB 7200 HDD
    intel wireless a/b/g/n + bluetooth
    webcam, fingerprint reader
    and the swiss 17" backpack
    ($1024.99)

I will primarily use this aside from my 16 core (w hyperthreading) and 8 core xeons when I am "not at my desk" for programming and database work (web surfing and movies as well). I figured for the money (and I looked), this was a great deal. Built the XEON 5400 and 5500 series on my own, so this i7 was a great deal comparatively. My older toshiba satellite has the fingerprint reader and their new series don't (although they offer face recognition) and that along with price and screen size (pixel real estate) on this HP made up my mind really quick.

Is everyone here unhappy with their purchase or what? lol

Glad to hear there are still some original posters happy with their purchase. I see a lot of you have the 230m vs the 320m. Is there a huge gap in performance between these 2 or negligible?

My build date is Mar 24, so hopefully will have it a few days after. Am excited even though it will take me 6-12hrs to install my tools.

I have a 230m and my windows experience index video scores are higher than others that have posted scores with a 320m. I dont think anyone has benchmarks for this 320m.
All we know is it has less shaders .

I think that the GPU is passively cooled so it doesn't have a fan and besides, it stays consistently cool =D (<=50*c)

Everything I have read seems to indicate the 230 is a little better than the 320. How much better, no idea. I've had mine for almost 2 months and very happy. No problems and it's running nice and cool. The white is so easy to keep clean and the pictures online don't do it justice. Glad I went that way.

Need some help guys. If you experience a sudden shutdown with a BSOD, is there a log that you can look at to see what caused the problem? Thanks in advance.

You can always check "Administrative tools" then go to "event viewer"

You will need to look at the memory dump file to fully analyze.

It is amazing on why people consider after all this time that Windows Experience Index is something important or relevant.
