just my 2 cents - i would only return a machine with hardware/physical defects. HP's systems come with so much crapware so i am not surprised you are getting these errors.
BUT - if you are technically inclined, i'd reinstall the entire system from scratch with microsoft windows 7 dvds and go from there. i've done this on all my hp machines (laptops + desktops) going back a number of years. i dont think i've used the HP software for more than a couple days before completely rebuilding the box.
i know we pay for the windows OS that comes on the laptop and it sucks that you're getting errors so early in but, for me and only myself, i see it as a small setback when i think about the great price i paid for high end hardware.

No lounge for dv7tse folks?
I got mine a week ago to upgrade from 5 year old dv9000 and am quite happy thus far.
It runs noticeably cooler, even with 5650. Sound, microphone are much better. The new chicklet keyboard was different, but I like it. I was already used to island style keys from my toshiba netbook. I didn't like how they combined multimedia buttons with F keys. And I hate the dedicated arrow keys. I'd rather have tiny right shift and a full size up/down arrow. Or better yet, move arrow key cluster down and add dedicated pgup/pgdn along with full size arrow keys. Did not like viewing angle of the display... but straight on it looks nice, but not any better than dv9000.
I've been browsing around to see if there are any comments about the touchpad, but there are so many posts I probably missed them. The huge touchpad was surprising. I wondered where the buttons went. I had to use google to find out I needed to physically press down on the lower left/right corner until it depresses and clicks to activate the left/right buttons. And I configured that left clicking with 2 fingers = middle button, and also activated lower right hotzone to be right button, as I had initially assumed it was. And I downloaded newer TP drivers from synaptic website, which has momentum feature, and have been playing around with their scrybe gestures addon -- it would be nicer with better user customization.
I read a post of addon on to use 2 finger gesture as right click and drag, I'll look into that. [eta] Nope. Twofingergesture is useless. I can't rightclick-drag with two finger gesture. I'll stick to my low right hotzone and lower right button both of which let me right-click-drag, even if it takes a bit of hand contorting or 2 hands.
Very nice budget all-in-one desktop replacement laptop. -
I just received my dv7tse on Tuesday, but had to send it in for service yesterday. The space bar wouldn't register if I hit it near the bottom of the key, near the touchpad. I tried my kids' HP dv6s and they did register with no problem. Sigh.
Tech support was very nice, even though we could not get the remote control working. I dled the newest touchpad driver but it still wasn't working.
I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Though, I haven't read of the HP keyboards being a problem. -
Hey everyone, my first post here!
I bought a dv7 se for my mother and it just arrived a few days back. The thing is really a beast inside, but I'm absolutely disgusted with the black levels (contrast?? dunno how to describe) of the screen. If you set the desktop background to solid black, the screen can't even produce it properly. Its very hazy and awful looking. The viewing angles are also bad. I've read this entire thread and saw a few people saying they really like the screen, and some who have made similar comments as mine about the viewing angle and black levels.
So I'm trying to determine whether or not to return the machine. I guess if the panel is just a P.o.S I may just keep it. But I'm trying to determine if the screen I got was defective. If so I may contact support and look into a replacement. I took some pictures with the dv7 and my other laptop, an HP HDX 16 with a 1080p scrren and excellent blacks, side by side. I am including them below. So my question(s) to you all is this; Do you think my dv7 screen is defective, or is it consistent with the quality others are receiving? And if you think it is consistent with others, why isn't everyone else miffed about this? The thing looks awful...

^ That's about the same as mine. The vertical viewing angle is not good. But I think it's normal for low end LCD ... my netbook has about the same characteristics. The lcd wouldn't have been a deal breaker for me, as I don't work in primarily black, and I use a much nicer stand-alone lcd monitor for most of my viewing.
On other bad news.... it looks like I'm going to return my dv7tse. I have a power supply problem, my unit suddenly stopped taking charge. I don't have a multimeter, but the power brick feels warm, so it might be mobo. But whatever it is, reading similar complaints of power failure from other owners has now scared me away from this generation of dv7. Plus I also had intermittent problems of dvd player/wmplayer freezing up on dvd (which I was willing to live with).
Too bad, I really liked its cool running ATI 5650/i460 GPU combo, the and "beats" speakers was nice. -
Calibrate your screen. I was only happy with mine 3xxx generation DV7 after it

I am trying to find a replacement ac power adapter for my dv7t select i7 laptop.
The original is 18.5 v 6.5 a and 120w.
When I search online I can't find anything that is exactly like the original I have. Is there anyone out there who has replaced their power adapter and can point me to a good place to buy one. I can't even find it on the hp site.
I want a genuine replacement not a knock off.
Thank you -
Hey can anyone help me how can I keep this beast cool as it has been 7 months I bought it and now it started getting hot if I run it for 30 minutes and if it gets even hotter my laptop keeps hibernating. Hard Disk (Left Palm rest) really gets hot. Speed fan shows my HDD has many reallocated sectors so it should be replaced and also I suspect this may be a fan issue. Please help me what is the problem with my machine.

Hey guys !
I just ordered a laptop from the HP website
HP Pavilion dv7-4295us Entertainment Notebook PC (aluminum) | HP® Official Store
First of all, with taxes,it came to around $1190,is it worth it?
I use my laptop for almost everything from entertainment purposes like watching movies and playing games...but am not using it for any office/business work !
The graphics card which comes with it is the Radeon HD 6570M..and people told me i would be able to play games like crysis and crysis 2 on it..so that was satisfactory, but will i be able to play games like metro too? And also,is it possible for me to change to a different graphics card? I mean,i can buy a new one and replace it or will i just have to settle with the default one? -
I had that unit and sent it back within the 21 day return period due to the fact that it had only SATA II HDD and I had hoped to upgrade the 5400 RPM drive thst it csmr with to something much faster but saw this as a bottleneck. Was a very nice notebook otherwise though.

Well, can you put that in laymans terms? Well,i guess thats not going to be a deal breaker for me ! Did you have any other complaints? And what about gaming experience, heat and noise level?
