Is there a docking station designed for this laptop?
I tried searching here, didn't find anything.
Also tried HP's site, didn't find anything specific.

Bing.com has 20% cashback for hp for Black Friday.

My understanding is that it's fine to have the instant rebate, but you can't use coupon codes or other discounts if you want to get the bing cashback.

Is it safe to trust bing.com to give you the cashback?

    Don't know.

People have posted some sad stories about trying to get bing.com/live.com cashback and not getting it -- and they only know for sure they're not getting it after 60 days or something, way too late to return their computers to hp and get a better deal.

Others have posted that they've gotten their cashback quickly and without a problem.

HP did a nice job turning my order around. Ordered last Monday and it appears to have been shipped today. Refreshing after what happened with my Dell XPS 1645 order.

It is listed as SHIPPED! Exactly 10 days after original shipping date.

There's a FedEx number, but no tracking info yet.

I know I was thinking the same thing, however the deal on the DV7t is almost identical to the DV8t minus the 1080P. That plus the size is the only difference. So order the DV7t with the $400 off coupon or wait for a DV8t coupon?

To anyone who plans on ordering a DV8t WAIT TIL CYBER MONDAY. I just contacted Logic Buy and they do plan on putting a 'killer' deal up according to them. They said it will be better than the $20 off coupon so just hang in there a few more days. Hopefully it's the $500 coupon.

Got my dv8 today... looks pretty sexy.

Here's me deliema, I formatted the laptop to get rid of all the bloat ware and installed a fresh copy of w7 ultimate x64. I installed the IDT audio codec and nvidia audio and video drivers. The sound works fine but for some reason the on screen volume bar is gone. I can increase the sound and watch it increase in the taskbar but the on screen one isn't there.

Issue #2 The finger print driver is on the hp website for our laptop but the software isn't. I tried to run the vistas version of it but it wouldn't work.

    Any help?

I got mine today also. I got it an hour after my last post this morning. I am extremely pleased so far!
I went thru and deleted some of the bloatware and installed Office Small business 2007 with no issues.
I had planned on doing a fresh install of windows 7 but to my surprise, the 500gig HD is formatted in 2 partitions. 15 gigs for recovery drive and 450 gigs for the main drive. And then there is the the hidden partition.
That is good enough for me and this thing is blazing fast! I plan on adding a second hard drive soon so I really see no need to do the fresh install. System resources are not being taxed to much, memory usage is at 33% with 4 program's open including Office word, Excel, firefox and IE.

The only problem I have so far is , I can not get Mastercam 9 to run in windows 7. I can install it but it crashes as soon as you open it. I will fiddle with it over the weekend and see what I come up with.

    Guys,

    A quick prepurchase question:

    1. is the DDR3 RAM in dv8 quad edition 1333mhz OR is it 1067 mhz? It is NOT mentioned anywhere, not on the site, not in the brochure?

    2. Between dv8 quad edition and Dell studio xps 16 or studio 17 which is better and why?

    thanks a ton

I think someone a few pages back mentioned that it was 1067. Can't comment on but build quality compared to the xps16 or studio 17. If you are thinking about the xps16 you may want to check out dell forum. They were having major issues with shipping the xps16s recently, but may have gotten their act together by now. I had one on order for 1.5 months before I finally cancelled and ordered a DV8 last Monday.

Hi - I tried searching this thread because I know there were several posts about the speed here, but didn't find the posts. Maybe didn't know how to spell the terms or something.

Wish I could answer you about the build, but ..............

My dv8 has SHIPPED according to HP, right on time, Nov 27

but FedEx can't find it and said probably it's part of a BULK SHIPMENT and therefore not into the system until they get the container filled or something like that.

So, I rang HP back and asked them if they knew where my computer is, and they don't. Nor did I get expedited shipping, apparently.

At least I FINALLY got an email from HP confirming the shipment. All I had before was that info on the HP Home & Office Website.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes for FedEx to acknowledge that they have my computer. It's already nearly midnight in Shanghai on Saturday, so probably won't know anything for another 24 hours.

    1. Read its 1067 and I kept seeing a few 'HP skimping on Ram' posts here. So I guess its right.

    2. Never owned a newer Dell so i couldn't tell you but I can tell you the dv8's build quality is above average. It wasn't as nice as my HDX Dragon IMO tho. That mofo was 'premium'. Go checkout the Dell forums at Dell. One really big negative that I read is the delays on receiving a Dell laptop. On the studio line- I bought a Studio Line desktop for my mother and IMO the build quality was A$S.

Agree. But it might be offered later. They've done it before. I bought a first gen HDX9300 about 3 years ago and sometime later and they did add some bells and whistles options when ordering. But not much.

    RAGEMAN,

Those bios (the ones in the link you showed me) seem to be for the hdx18. As anyone tried this on the dv8 that you know of? I'm not sure if I would risk installing the bios for a different computer then my own's.

I can def see why people want the backlit keyboard now. On my old dv5 I had a silver keyboard so the light from the monitor use to reflect on the keyboard and everything would be fine. But on the dv8 since it has black keys the light doesnt' reflect properly.

    Anyone got it working yet?

Over in the HP forums and Apple forums we have many people complaining that they cannot sync their iphone with itunes on the dv7t and dv8t. It seems to have to do with the Intel PM55 chipset, which has a known issue related to itunes

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com...e/thread/b6692122-0187-4960-8f17-4d0ac4042133

People see a variety of sporadic errors, particularly (but not only) after syncing photos. Error seen are

    • XXXX's iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-6999)."
    • A folder was specified instead of a file
    • "48" errors (sorry, can't remember the exact message or maybe there wasn't one)

Here's the HP forum where people are discussing the problem:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board...&thread.id=7001&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Here's the largest of the Apple threads:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2157442&start=60&tstart=15

If you are experiencing this problem i would encourage you to post it as an issue via the HP support system: http://www.hp.com/#Support

I and others have had little success at getting them to even acknowledge there is a problem, but if enough people report it, perhaps they will respond. The consensus in the forums is that HP needs to make a bios update to fix this issue (Gigabyte and Asus have done so). I would also encourage anyone having this issue to post it in a review on the HP site or the Amazon site. After spending many hours on this issue, I am at a loss as to what to do next and am just trying to spread the word to others having the same problem.

Well I'm continuing to have the issue where my usb port next to my power cable is reading my accessories as "unknown devices". I called customer support and ran through a number of different fixes ,but none worked. So tomorrow I have to call them back and try a system recovery. If that doesn't work their gonna send me a replacement. It really sucks to have to go through all this for one usb port. Especially when I'm in my last 2 weeks of college for the semester. On the plus side I can say customer service was very helpful, but this is just a downer. just sucks because this is such an awesome laptop, been using it every day for internet, gaming, and office and it has been great.

When you say "they" are working on it, who exactly do you mean - HP? HP (at least anyone at HP that I've been able to get to) disavows any knowledge of the problem. Here is their latest response to me (from this past Friday, 11/27):

This was sent to me after about five back and forth emails, with me in each one referencing all the forums (2 hp and 3 apple) where the problem is discussed, as well as an SF Chron article that discusses the problem with the P55 chipset and how it can't sync with itunes.

So I am not at all optimistic that "they are working on it". I have now gotten it escalated to a "case" (which I guess is a higher level than a "ticket"). However, there is another person on the HP forums that got to this point and he says the "quality case manager" folks that deal with the cases say they have no ability to get the problem back to engineering, so I don't have a lot of confidence that this new "case" level is anything but a shunt off to some new set of people that just want me to go away.

Ok this is really weird. I think HP might have given some people 1066 clocked ram and some ppl 1366. Because I just checked my ram in cpuz and this is what I'm gettin:

    Shows 1366 for me.

Mine just showed up a few minutes ago! I had it delivered to work so I only got to take it out of the box and make sure nothing was broken in shipping. It looks sweet! I can't wait to play with it. For now I have to work on some other folks laptops since I am technically at work.

I had the same problem getting Itunes to work on my dv8t. What seemed to work and is still working was setting up the iphone from scratch. Do not restore from backup but completely starting over. Your contacts can be saved in Windows Live mail so you won't lose any of those. You will however have to download your apps again. It sucks but I'm able to sync for the time being to my Iphone. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Itunes 64 bit. Latest firmware on Iphone 3GS.

I just received my dv8 last Friday and sadly I am having the same issues with my Ipod Touch (2G), I like this laptop but if they do not have a resolution soon I may need to return it.

    iPhone?
Glad I waited for a Droid. It uses plain ole mp3. :p

But why is this forum suddenly 50% too wide for this NON dv8?

I will probably see the problem happen again, but after syncing the ipod touch successfully on a windows xp machine, then trying it again on the dv8 seemed to work.

I played songs randomly from the ipod via iTunes while simultaneously uploading songs to it and transferring about 50 gigs of data from the laptop hard drive to an external USB HDD.
