As expected, the syncing issues have returned already.

HP Store online must be flooded with cyber monday shoppers. I'm trying to use coupon code "NBM7RTX" ($450 off?) to see if I can configure a cheaper dv8 than I purchased, but I get timed out from the server every time I get to the "choose base configuration" point.
Now I can't get into HP store's site at all! wOow.
Anyone get to check out this deal? -
To anyone who plans on ordering the DV8t. HURRY UP and ORDER NOW with

Let me know if any of you can get in or how long it took you if you did. -

Ordered my dv8t this morning. I cut all the standard stuff from the list below, like the non-upgradable video card etc.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7- 720QM Processor
FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR3 ( 2 Dimm) from 3GB
FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
Intel Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
No TV Tuner w/remote control
HP Long Life Notebook Battery
System Recovery DVD
Works 9.0 (to be deleted as soon as I get it)
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope (what is this??)
Estimated build date: December 10, 2009
Order subtotal $962.99
I skipped the extra warranty (I decided it was not worth the $175). My 3 optional items added to the base were:
Long Life Battery
Recovery DVD (not really needed, but I don't want to bother creating them myself)
Bluetooth -
I would go with the 2 yr accidental warranty. Especially with laptops nowadays. Is there any notable difference between the Long Life and Regular 8 Cell battery? On the DV7t the 8 cell was actually really good. Few weeks ago I wanted to restore my dv7t quad and the recovery partition wouldn't let me. Getting HP recovery discs is always a smart thing to do. However I do recommend as soon as you get it you back everything up and create your own discs and do a system image just to be on the safe side.
I did go with blutooth only because I felt this is going to be standard and more and more mice are eventually going to use it. Of course thats MO. -
Great price, I got the same system without the System Recovery DVD for $1250 (including 6% sales tax in CT) a few weeks ago.

$962.99...huh? Not bad...not bad
But ya shoulda went through Bing to get the extra %20 off ($190 discount). I upgraded to the 500Gb drive and final price after discounts will be...

Businesses in Shanghai tend to have shorter hours than elsewhere in Asia, in my memory. Foreign-owned businesses, that is. Locally owned businesses will usually work either alternate Saturdays or half-day Saturdays.
so, no, sigh, no updates.
But then, the keyboard and screen cover set from Hong Kong hasn't arrived yet either. -
cant access hp either at this point
-
Had a close call with the delivery. Box had a hole in the side of it. I unpacked it and there was a hole in the box inside the shipping box. Whatever it was hit the power supply and didn't damage anything. Had it been the exact same spot on the other side of the box it probably would have caused damage. Got lucky twice today I guess! -
I called FedEx to see if they had any additional details beyond what was on their tracking page. The woman my package was part of a bulk shipment and that additional details wouldn't be available until it is broken down. Not sure where and when that would happen. -
It wasn't until I complained to HP after that, when they couldn't tell me where my computer was at that time, that they finally sent me an email confirming the order, at least.
I also pointed out that had I known the computer was coming from Shanghai, I would have paid the extra for 2-day shipping. That really frosts me on the company at this point. This computer better be worth it. -
FYI, HP's base price of $1374.99 may be a bit of an artificially inflated retail price. Costco.com has the bast dv8t Quad for a normal online price of 1159.00. Right now, an extra $60 off makes a total of $1099. Benefits of Costco are 90 day return policy and 2 year warranty.
I did manage to get into hp.com this afternoon and grab a dv8t for $924.99 (I added bluetooth). Seems like a sweet deal... -
I just called to match up my price with the new cyber monday price and they gave me 150 off.
old total with tax was:
1165
-50 giftcard for late shipping
-50 credit for late shipping
-150 matching cyber monday price
965 = new total including tax
On top of that they lied about the dv8t having a led screen I saw on here they did the same to someone else and they got 100 back.
My order still hasnt shipped and today was the last day for it to ship so maybe another 50$ giftcard or more.
After all that im looking at about 800 for this laptop I am pretty pumped. -
ordered one but couldnt pass up the 50% off 8gb memory upgrade

I just went to the shopping site and tried to duplicate my configuration. Can't be done because there are some changes e.g. there's now the DVD backup which wasn't on site when I ordered. But, there's no more LoJack offer as far as I can see, and I did order that. The Norton looks like it's a lot cheaper than when I ordered, as well.
In short, the final configuration today is much cheaper and I'm going to call them. Even with my $500 discount.
hmmm -- you should complain about paying for the shipping. In my case, 5-7 business days could include 2 weekends!!!!! -
If you have it on the highest brightness it will last maybe 90-110 mins. If you watch like a high def movie or even standard def I dont think it'll last more then an hr. -
Well here's my story. I ordered mine on the 16th and paid $1228.99 (before tax) with a $200 coupon code. Then a few days later they had a price drop of $50 and the they also dropped the price down of the HD's. I found out I could build the exact same computer but with a 1TB HD (orginally I had the 640gb) for the same price I paid for. The CS ppl gave me $100 credit on my CC. Then as soon as I see the logicbuy coupon today I call them back up (had to wait for liek 30-35 mins almost due to the rush) and told them I want another $100 credit because I can now have the SAME exact computer for $200 cheaper then what I orginally paid for. They wouldn't bite. They only gave me $50 credit back saying that they don't price match coupons or some crap like that. I argued with them for a while saying that according to HP policy if within 21 days I can build a cheaper computer they are obligated to price match. In end I just took the 50, so my I ended up paying $1165 AFTER TAX. Still not a bad deal. The lady told me that I could do a return and build a new one but I don't think waiting again for 2 weeks is worth the extra 50 I would have saved.
Anyone have any similar stories? -
I logged into Bing...did a search for HP...navigated to their site...logged in...configured my dv8t...typed in today's code for the $450 off...checked my Bing account 2 hours and the additional $190 (%20 off) was posted there.
I did the same thing with a dv7t on BF...a few hours later, I realized it didn't have the hdmi, 1080p so I cancelled that (they wouldn't let me swap the dv8t for the dv7t for some reason). Was up at 4am mountain time this morning (to beat out you east coasters) because I knew they'd have just as good an offer for cyber monday...
It's the best deal I've ever seen or had on a QUALITY notebook... -
-
you can almost be certain that even if you got the bing in your account, just prior to the 60 days it will be removed. Happened to me before any many others

sadly its true and I want it not to be just as much as you
however, you never know, you might get lucky !!!!!!!! -

For those with the Bluray burners-
I just burned a 50 gig BD disk successfully. I assumed you couldn't because the BD blank for the 50 gig said it was a DL disk and I saw nothing stating BD-DL when I ordered the laptop from hp. I saw a blank 50gig BD blank on sale at the store and took a chance. 15 bucks. Not bad.
The disk was limited to 2x burnspeed and took a little over 3 hours to burn.
When I ordered the BD burner option, it just said
Blu-Ray +/-R/RW with SuperMulti.
So it can burn the 50 gig Dual layer disks. I thought it was limited to the 25gig BD-R blanks.
Hope this helps someone with or whoever wanted that BD burner option.

Stay tuned for a true review. Nothing special, but hey, at least we are jamming!!!!! GO GREEN DAY!! -
Hello members,
This is my first post in this forum. My HP dv8t order got shipped today, so I guess , soon [ dont know when ....] I will get to add my 2 cents about the
performance.
BTW , assuming most BIOS now give the option for USB drive booting
does anyone know / is there a thread for creating an USB bootable drive
for the DV8t. -
I dont know, I am starting to rethink my purchase and possible switch to the Acer AS8940G-6865
it has a replaceable video card, and the card itself is a much better performer. it has a lighted keyboard and the BIG thing for me, an actual LED screen. reviews are short but favorable. Even has a second bay ready to go with no caddy purchase needed. Its about $200 higher than the lowest priced base optioned HP after bing but I just dont know............... -
My dv8 has been delayed since 11/10and still no sign of shipment. I'm talking to HP right now and they're being no help. I think I may cancel. This Acer is looking like a really good alternative. Now only if it wasn't so expensive (I'm poor)! I don't think that bing cashback (5%?) will make it $1100 or cheaper. but overall, nicer looking hardware, nice looking computer.
-
Hi I put in a order on the 11/10 and dv8 has been delayed for a second time. Have any of you got anymore credits from hp for the delay besides the first $50 for the first delay?
-

After looking at the Acer, decided to call HP sales again, and see what my configuration would cost if I do it all over again. So here's some new info ...
[1] there is a 21-day price protection, so I can run the same configuration now and if it comes in cheaper, I'll be credited for the difference
[2] when my dv8t gets here I can call tech support, tell them the serial number of my machine, and they'll make up a backup disc for me
[3] MY COMPUTER WILL ARRIVE ON THURSDAY THIS WEEK !!!!!!
oh, and Frankybones, yeah, the Acer looks good but the tv-tuner isn't an option nor does it look like it would be easy to "soup up" like I've ordered for my Pavilion. So, I guess I know what I'll be doing THIS weekend YEA -
-
frankybones, don't call CS -- that's people in the Philippines I think.
Call sales. Then you get a person on this side of the Pacific, apparently.
The sales guy pulled up my record and told me immediately my pc would arrive in 2 days. Nobody else seemed to have that info. So, once it arrives, we'll take a look and see.
As for why some people got theirs faster, it may have to do with configuration, or bulk shipments that went out in the beginning of the work week rather than on a Friday night, or which of the assembly teams in Shanghai got the order, or goodness knows what else. Even sophisticated Poyang area of Shanghai isn't immune to local f ... uh, screw-ups. -
I ordered on the 11/10/09 and the scheduled shipping date was 11/18/09. It missed the first shipment and i got an email saying it would be shipped no later than 11/30/09 or 10 days after my first shipping date(which would be 11/28/09). Today is 12/01/09 and my order is still in production. I called cs today and was on hold for about 30mins they told me they couldn't even tell me when it was going to be built let alone shipped. They told me that corporate would be sending out emails with details or that i could email them myself. I text chatted with cs after that and they said the same thing. I told them I was thinking about canceling the order and they gave me the number to do so. I am assuming they are so backed up they dont care if orders are canceled at this point.
My order is base order plus bluetooth and tv tuner. has anyone received an order like this or are one of these parts causing the delay?
btw i have got a $50 coupon and $50 credit towards my order for the first delay I am assuming they will do something for the second too.
