First post just to add that mine is also in clearance delay and is supposed to be delivered by tomorrow (10/28) at noon

Hello guys,
I bought the free upgrade to 4GB RAM. What is the speed of it(1333 or 1099...)? any help appreciated. -
-
LOL, I wonder how many of our new laptops are sitting in a pile together in Alaska?
-
I don't get it. Why are so many computers winding up in Alaska of all places? I didn't get the free shipping. Maybe that's why I'm having no delivery problem. I may be returning the computer to HP unopened anyway. My just over one year old broken laptop that Sony said they wanted to repair for $750 (!) got sent back to me when I told them to forget it and just send it back - and now - miraculously - it seems to be perfect! I think they might have repaired it by mistake!

HP 2-Day shipping =
1. 2-days sitting in China.
2. 2-Days Transit from China to Alaska.
3. 2- Days in Customs. (so far, who knows how much longer?)
4. 2- Days from Alaska to House.
This is my first HP experience. I'm quickly losing my enthusiasm. -
My first post and Hello to all.
I am in the same boat as my new HP dv8 is in Alaska.
I saw this on HDX user group
"A clearance delay in Alaska. I originally had a delivery date of this Thursday, now I will have to wait until Next week, or maybe even the week after that. All because HP screwed up and didn't send the customs documentation! I've been waiting since the 14th to get this laptop! COME ON NOW, PEOPLE! "
Is this true???
My first HP and here I sit with no PC that is supposed to be delivered today.
Oh well Glad to meet you all. -
^^ I was just talking to a Fed-ex rep on the phone, and she explained what the clearance delay meant.
She said that the delay is because they either lost the paperwork or didn't have it in the first place.

Long wait for all 2 day shipping then!!!! -
Excellent review of the I7-720QM CPU for the DV8!!!

Well, it's past the 10:30 AM estimated delivery time.
Honestly, despite the delays, I'm not all that depressed. You get what you pay for, and the 2-3 business day shipping was, in fact, free. On top of that, the original estimated shipping date was the 29th. -
-
well, a fedex express pulled up near my work, got me excited, then drove off into the distance. I still have 30 mins to 'get it in time'. Doesn't look like it though.
Did buy a ssd in the mean time. Kingston 80gb. -
Oh Well and I guess we'll get our deliveries on Monday, Nov. 2.....
HP should be giving us a comp/discount for their store for our inconvience. -
-
Well I just called HP, and they said that even though it said 2 days that they are well within the time frame... and that if the laptop is not received by tomorrow then I can call back and they will compensate me for the inconvenience.

I'm excited and looking forward to getting my new Dv8, but dismayed at the persistent "Clearance Delay" issue.
Summary:
Ordered: 10/19, Promise "build" date: 10/28, Actual "ship" date: 10/24.
Yes, I was initially pleasantly surprised that the actual ship was quite a bit sooner than the promised build date, but then..
1 -- laptop gets hung in SHANGHAI with "Package received after Fedx cutoff"
2 -- laptop sits over the weekend in SHANGHAI
3 -- arrives in ANCHORAGE 10/26, then later in the day stuck at Clearance delay, presumably alongside yours..
Its still there as of 10/28.
Here are the problems that I have with the situation:
1 -- From what I can see, HP is not so motivated to get this right since they already charged my credit card (this, I think, even before it was shipped).
2 -- Other than complaining to HP (I see from this forum, that others have not gotten resolution from this process), I am powerless to resolve.
3 -- It seems these laptops can languish for days without movement.
4 -- Although HP notified me at "ship" time that custom orders take "at least one day in clearance" (two small asterisks), this fact was not visible at order time. I was unaware of its tricky international shipping process, having previously ordered from Dell and gotten them so quick it wasnt worth ordering air shipping.
5 -- HP appears to direct ship all of their website ordered laptops from China direct, and has been doing this for some time now. I would have thought that the kinks of this process would have been ironed out by now. Who has dropped the ball here?
I'm willing to give HP a little more time since they did originally promise 2 day shipping from 10/28 build date, but this ordering process seems to be needlessly agonizing while they have our money.
I'm also not sure if HP starts their 21 day return policy timer when they ship or when it arrives... -
I heard something about that HP really goofed on the paperwork and over 700 orders are stuck in Alaska. Get on the phone and complain, especially if you ordered 2 day. They will refund and give credits

Return period
We encourage you to try out your products right away so that if there is a problem, you can return them before the returns deadline. We accept returns and exchanges for up to 21 days after delivery, except on opened boxed software, Designjet Z2100 series Printers, HP Color LaserJet CP6015dn Printer, and gift cards (except where required by law). After the 21-day period, you can get support for any product issues from HP Customer Care.
If not received by Friday, I will probably buy something else and return the HP when it finally shows up. -

Mine was shipped from Olive Branch, MS on Oct 25 and it's scheduled to arrive here in Tucson, AZ tomorrow, Oct 29 - not by way of Alaska I hope! It wasn't even scheduled to be built until Nov. 3. Murphy's Law, I think. You guys are real anxious to get it, so naturally it takes its time getting to you; me, I don't care and I might just return it unopened, so naturally it comes here first. Murphy's Law.

Mine is still in Shanghai, CN!!!

i just spoke to an HP sales rep and brought up the issue i was having with my HDX 18t and the bass/treble buttons going haywire. I asked if this was going to continue to be an issue with the dv8t. he said they solved the reoccurring problem by removing the bass/treble buttons. he claims that there is only going to be volume up/down and mute.
-
-
I am having the same problem with my new dv6t. It has been stuck in Anchorage, AK since the 26th. I am on with support right now...I guess I will see what they say.
Edit: Ok the rep "claims" that the paperwork has been sent. We will see if the delay is lifting. -
-
EVERYONE!!
Take a deep breath, drink a beer and watch some hockey.
Your computers will be there before you know it!! -
-
Okay.. So I spoke to an HP agent... Everyone who is experiencing the clearance delays will be sent coupons valuing from $50 - $100 and they will get a part( like $50 off the order back on their card) of some money back that they used to pay for their laptop
well something like that. -
-
2 day shipping is not 2 day shipping unless it gets to me 2 days from the time that it shipped. Otherwise what benefit is there considering the laptop would have shipped at the same time with a lower shipping plan.

-
finally left alaska! there is no way it will be here by 430 tomorrow.
-

-
Mine still says "Not Found" on FedEx.
-
Tsk Tsk no ba keyboard sheesh it never ends. They want to say that this is a gaming laptop.
-
-
still in ak. good grief.
-
In Pittsburgh now, less than 2 hours away. I would be surprised if it made it here by 430 today!

My friend (who ordered the laptop for me as my proxy because he's just a su-par [no, not subpar] awesome guy like that) called HP to complain about the holdup in Alaska; he got a rep in India who claimed that there "was no delay" because the estimated shipping date was originally the 29th, so even though it's 2-3 business day shipping, they're safe as long as they deliver within 2-3 business days of the 29th.
As far as the refund/coupon deal goes, it seems like they'll only offer you something IF the computer is delayed beyond that, which would be Nov. 3. Of course, this doesn't work if you selected the free 2-3 business day shipping, because, you know, it's free. Despite the inconvenience of getting your laptop much later than you expected when you selected that option, they exercise extreme prejudice because you picked the free option.
BUUUUUUUT, on top of that, after escalating the call to the supervisor, there was a much more complicated excuse. Apparently the laptop won't clear customs until tomorrow at the earliest, and probably late tomorrow at that. FedEx doesn't handle HP parcels on Saturday-Monday (according to the super), so those aren't held against it as "business days" and FedEx would be able to "ship" the laptop from Alaska on Tuesday, November 3rd, which would be when HP starts its magical "shipping timer" for the 2-3 day shipping.
So after being shipped from China on the 25th, we're expecting my laptop to arrive on November 5th or 6th, just two or three short days later! Thanks, HP!
Edit: My friend's phone died while he was talking to the super (over 55 minutes on the phone with the service center total), so he couldn't really press the point home and ask exactly how "late" late was for HP. -
On vehicle for delivery. Color me surprised!
Go Yankees!
