I may be new here and a lurker, but I work in the industry too. My display issues were off the orginal factory windows, and uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, and reinstalled backup. Display issues happened anywhere right after boot up or 4 hours later was my experience.
Even if something is new, expecting the display problem to not have to crash windows is actually a big issue to me. Needing to do a hard boot is not particularly an option for me every day, as I like to leave my computer on. Again having known issues like volume control and iphone sync problems is different. But thats just my opinon. I just wanted to post on the forum to let people know I was having the same problems. Hopefully HP or Nvidia will see these posts and get on them and do more testing.
As for me I look forward to getting an Envy with an ATI card in the near future.

FWIW, I don't have any ATI driver issues on my Dell 1640 with the ATI 4670. -
-
The new bios update messed up my computer. Now it dies every few minutes saying that it is overheating and shuts down. The computer actually shut off in the middle of the bios update. Be warned.

The new bios update turned my fan into super speed at all times. it now sounds like a vacuum. Cant get bios 05 to install. Anyone else with this issue?
Sorry johnriba -
How are you guys checking your temps? I just go by the feel of my hand. Is there anything special to use?
-
is it an official update or a beta update? if the latter its probably still in the testing phase.
mattmjb0188 - coming to Chicago huh? And yes it is snowing out. -
-
So, yet another problem that was obviously NOT tested before being released?
"Would you like some fried CPU with that BIOS Upgrade?" Oh well, I guess we should just deal with it. -
-
and its not frying the cpu mine is running at 55c (gaming atm) while randomly checking forums

I am having trouble installing the nVidia 195.62 driver. I downloaded from this site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_195.62_whql.html
When I run the install, it first unpackages the data to a NVIDIA folder on the root of the C: drive. Then it starts the installation and the following error shows up:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Any help would be appreciated. -
this and the iphone/bios issue are the only problems ive found with this laptop -
Here is the fix for the NVIDIA display driver. After tweaking this you should be able to install the latest driver. -
Theres an overlay error if you install newer drivers- official or laptopvideo2go mod drivers when you run Cyberlink PowerDVD or even Arcsoft's TotalMedia3 Bluray software players. -

Awesome brutha. Have a great one then.

anyone know how to roll back the bios after updating to the new one. This fan being on (dispite disabling 'fan always on' in the bios) is driving me nuts. im assuming the bios update is making a sensor show a faulty reading of 90c cus when i turned on my comp right now, every temp was at 15c ish exept for one showing at 90c lol...

For some reason, people are still posting in this forum who have the Quad i7-based units, when realistically, they should be posting in the QUAD forum. But, habits are hard to break! -
-
Why would you make multiple for the diff processors?

Loading the defaults on the bios solved the loud fan for me. The first time after installing the bios update the computer shut itself down and when it started back up gave me a warning that it was shut down due to overheating.
-
Can someone tell how to roll back the bios. It is acting all kinds of weird since I've updated the bios. I'm on my phone just to post this.
-
ok. here is the deal. eversince i've downloaded the bios update the scroll bar on the touch pad doesn't work, the speaker crackles, startup takes 4 times as long, the finger print reader doesn't work well, web pages move very slow, as i type this i have to wait for the cursor to catch up.
Ii was on the phone with hp for 2 hours. they had me redo the the touch pad and audio then restart...nothing. system restore to two days ago nothing. system restore to 4 days ago. they wanted me to continue redoing everything and then i got extremely mad because nothing is working. i think my only option is a complete system restore. to them the bios update is working fine.
EDIT: okay. so i restarted my computer, AGAIN, for the 10th time in the past 2 hours now all of a sudden everything is fine EXCEPT for the scroll bar on the touch pad. as much as i want to sync my ipod HP can take their BIOS update and shove it up their @@@. after all that i still love my dv8t, surprisingly...
and my new tattoo is really itchy right now!
EDIT 2: my fan is still loud. can anyone tell what to do with that? -
Well I guess when I open my dv8t on Xmas I won't install the latest Bios since I sync my iPod with my desktop lol
-
I originally thought it was because of the new Nvidia driver but after reading these posts I think its the BIOS that is making my system act weird -
I tried everything to make my computer work like it did when I first bought it, which was only a month ago, but nothing worked. The new BIOS really screwed up my computer. Not only did the computer shut down the first time I tried to install it, but to make thing worse HP won't do an even exchange for my computer without charging me more. They told me that if I wanted to exchange the computer for a new one they wouldn't be able to use the $500 coupon that I used when I first bought it and would charge me for the difference.
I asked how that is an exchange and they told me that it was a "return and exchange." WHAT THE CRAP IS THE DIFFERENCE. Normal companies would just send a new computer without an upcharge, but not HP. I take back all the good things that I said about HP and the DV8t back a few weeks ago. HP has terrible customer service, after all. I can't understand half the things that they are saying because of their strong accents and they lie half the time. One rep will tell me one thing and the next rep will tell me something completely different.
I am forking out the money and going back to buying a Macbook Pro. I've never had a problem with Macs, their customer service is excellent, and they all speak perfect English.
Windows 7 is great. At least with the Mac that I will purchase I can install both the Mac OS and Windows 7. -
I understand your frustration. I would try and do a system recovery. Maybe that could help. Did you try loading the default settings in the bios. I know that has helped some. Good luck
