My DV8T shipped from Shanghai on Friday. Just checked the FEDEX site and found out it is on the truck for delivery today. The original esitmate was Thursday. What a nice surprise!
-
Just curious, with all the problems I'm reading about the video drivers and HP's unresponsiveness, has anyone brought this to Nvidia's attention? I'm sure they wouldn't want any bad publicity circulating about their product. Maybe they could intervene with HP to help solve these issues.
-
They have already updated the driver for the Gt230m however its not designed for the dv8t, yeah it will run but there are some bugs. HP needs to get the latest driver and modify it for the dv8t. HP has yet to acknowledge there even is a problem.
-
So people who have the dv6 quad and dv7 quad get a new video driver and new sound driver. Why are they not updating the drivers on the dv8?????????????? Anyone install the new nvidia driver 8.16.11.8766 A on the dv8?
-
Driver or new cards?
dv6 and dv7 are shipping with GT320s now -
they are new drivers for the gt230m on the dv6 and dv7

Matt, are you going paranoid?
Hows your dv8's return to HP?
Hopefully HP won't give you a bad shipping label, which will cause FedEx to lose your laptop -_- -
I'm actually ok. I called Fedex and they are coming later today to pick it up.
-

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
Yes, I have. No problems whatsoever.

I've been playing with my new DV8 for a couple of hours. It came with BIOS F13 and the 186xx Nvidia drivers. I updated the video drivers to 195.62 and don't seem to have any problems. I'm not planning on using sleep mode. The auto driver update utility says the HP drivers have been modified to work with some of the laptop buttons and sleep mode.
I did the inplace upgrade to Windows Ultimate. Also no problem. I'm a little surprised though. The DV8 is a little slower than my 32-bit quad core Dell XPS710 with 4GB Ram. The Windows Experience index is the same (5.9) but the processor is slower. -
What's your processor WEI?
Initially mine said "6.2" when I first checked it. I ran it myself and the score shot up to "7.0" -
I have had my dv8t for about a month now. I don't seem to have any of the problems specified on this form. No NVDIA issues or BIOS issues. Nothing freezes, crashes or requires reboot. Everything runs smoothly.
WHAT USE IS A LAPTOP IF YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT IN FORMS!
LOL! -
I did and i came back to the 1.8644.
The 1.8644 is the one wih best performances on Direct X benchmarks (+ 2fps compare to 1.8766) and less bugs than others ones. No HDMI issue, no blueray issue... -
My Windows Experience index is 6.5 with an overclocked graphic card and a Patrio Torxq 128 GB SSD (7.4 for the hard drive)
-
Yeah, but you said your processor is slower on the dv8.
What is the *processor* WEI for both? -
i just made a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my dv8 everythin works gr8 and the notebook is much faster now however i just had some small
issues and i was wondering if any1 on this forum could help
1st issue : all the hp touch buttoms are working smoothly except the
" EJECT " buttom its just aint working i have intalled the driver that came within the hp notebook
2nd issue : i updated the nvidia driver just like i read on page 161 on
this forum and it worked well but physX in control panel indicated its 32-bit not 64 but its still enabled in nvidia control panel so is it really working or not ?

Anyone can help me?
After a clean install, everything work well excep the finger print reader.
I installed the driver from the HP support page and installed Digital Persona from this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164
When i install the finger print driver, I can see the device on device manager and Windows says "The device is working properly".
Then i install Digital Persona and before the end of the installation, Digital Persona tells me that the finger print device wasn't found.
I tried many times and allways the same story.
Anyone has an idea?
Maybe with another version of Digital Persona but the only link i found is the one above. -
WEI for both Computers:
Desktop:
CPU: 7.1
Memory: 7.1
Graphics: 7.3
Gaming Graphics: 7.3
Disk: 5.9
DV8T:
CPU: 7.1
Memory: 7.4
Graphics: 6.4
Gaming Graphics: 6.4
Disk: 5.9
The processors and disks are in a dead heat. The RAM is faster on the laptop. Graphics in the destop beat the DV8T. I have the Nvidia GTX 285 in the desktop. -
I tried to call HP but they are just ridiculous.
First they don't even know what is Digital persona. They tell me that it is a printer driver.
Then, when they knew what is Digital Persona, they told me to reinstall all the system.
When i told them that my install was fresh from 2 hours they just closed the phone.
I tried to call again, 30 minutes on the phone and the told that i have to install the Validity Sensor Driver. What i already did, but i did it again.
I say that it doesn't work, they sayd to send the laptop.
What a joke. -
u have to install it from the SwSetup folder that comes with ur notebook
u choose the 4th one under the name " DPFPR " ( digital persona ) and in the same folder
under the folder name " DRIVERS " ull find a folder names " FINGER "
install that as well .... what happened with me is that it didnt work from the
1st time i tried a couple of times, just install the DPFPR n restart the pc if it didnt work try again ..
hope that helps -
Anyone who made a fresh install can send me both, the finger print drivers and Digital Persona they have installed on?
[email protected] -
Can you send me those drivers please? -
have u deleted the SwSetup that came out with ur notebook ?
-
For those that have successfully completed a clean install, would you mind creating a new thread explaining how you did it?
-
I downloaded the ISO from this site (the link is on the beggining of this thread.
I burned the DVD and installed it.
Then i downloaded all the latest drivers (except BIOS and graphic drivers, i kept the 1.8644) from the HP support page or from the link i gave above.
That's it.
Everything is working well except the finger print reader and digital persona -
I lost all the data from my 500 GB hard Drive coming with the laptop. I was trying to make a new partition and i got a failure.
Lost everything unfornately.
I back up my important files but i never did for those drivers (thinking that is SO easy to find the latest version on the web...)
Next time i'll back up everything -
can you use the same serial number that came with the laptop when installing a fresh install? like if it came with 7 64bit home premium, i just get the iso install and put serial number?
-
Yep, i used the same serial and no problem.
-
Can anyone zip this folder and send it to my mail adress please?
-
another question. how do games perform with this? like crysis, gta iv, or others?
-
computerstriker Notebook Evangelist
Just to let you know, that folder, SWSETUP, is HUGE!!! it's around 3GB I believe. -
computerstriker Notebook Evangelist
Well, the GT230m isn't a gaming GPU, it's a midrange one. It can do medium to high settings. Although I'm not sure if it can do it at max 1080p resolutions. For the most part if you use medium settings it should be able to play the games fluently.
As notebookcheck says,
The performance of the middle class gpu GT 230M should be somewhere between the GeForce GT130M and the 9700M GTS and below the GT 240M because of the lower clock rate. Demanding DirectX 10 games like Crysis should run fluently in medium details. Older or less demanding games should run in high detail settings and high resolutions.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-230M.17646.0.html -
I don't want all the folder. Just the sub folder with digital persona and the finger print driver.
Maybe 30 or 40 mb once ziped -
what if the the gpu is overclocked?
-
computerstriker Notebook Evangelist
then It'd perform better then =D -
No one can send me this folder?
-
I'll look for it in a few hours when I get home. Please post back if someone beats me to it. I did a clean install but have an image of my original setup.
I have never messed with my fingerprint settings so I don't know if mine are working after the fresh install or not...I would guess not since I seemed to follow the same procedure as you did. -
Can you explain what you did to overclock your GPU.
thanks,
Murray -
Please do share!!
I would also like to know this. Or atleast where to start looking for this. I tried searching but I failed.
HAH. Nevermind about the external display thing I had here. I figured it out. -
Thank you.
Let's see if with the original folder and files i can fix this.
If the zip is to big to be sent by email, can you upload it to a server like megaupload, rapidshare or anyone. I'm sure someone will need it in the future. -
What folder do you need? I can upload it to my rapidshare premium account if you'd like...
-
Download MSI after burner
Install it
Set it (my settings are 625/1400/1024 but try by yourself with some benchmarks to find your max overclock)
Then go to settings and make MSI after burner start with windows and in the bottom of the window you'll see a small button with "apply overclocking at system startup"
Done -
This one : (Moudine was explaining me wich folder it is)

I would be careful about overclocking the GPU. This laptop runs hot!!! For the small increase in speed you might get, I think it would just cause a bunch more head aches with blue screens. Over clocking a desktop is easy because you can increase cooling with better fans, more fans, ect.
-
My settings are tested like this :
Computer on a table (no rised) and hard benchmark all night long.
When i wake up, if the computer still working good and the GPU temp still normal (63°), that's mean he cans run every day tasks without any problems.
I tried many settings and i don't change it anymore. They are perfect. -
K, I have that file being zipped right now, and I'm also going to rar the entire swsetup folder for everyone else for future use.
I'll be uploading in a few minutes when it's done being zipped/rared.
Thanks for this info.
Sweet!
I personally only want to overclock when I'm playing a certain game or two and see if it really even helps me at all (I need all the help I can get. haha). -
Is this freeware? I don't think so. Copyright violation? Very possibly.
