Glad you got it figured out and fixed. Thanks for coming back and posting the solution. I'm sure that will be helpful for others in the future.

I didn't see an option in advanced to necessarily uncheck/turn off a power save option....just the ability to set it to "full power" - same thing?

Yea, I haven't been thrilled with the advanced settings in the persona software for fingerprint reading.

While is does what it does excellent, I too have turned off the functions to control Security to lock the system for X minutes as its buggy and takes over all other settings and conflicts without warning or advisement.

I also have set mine to "full power" in the advanced tab as that makes it totally responsive without having to "wakeup".

Yes, you're correct. I was doing this from memory while away from my computer, so I couldn't remember the exact options.

    Cheers,

Speaking of the Fingerprint Reader, my little brother was over a couple months ago and claimed he could log into my computer using his finger. I didn't believe him, but sure enough after about 20 swipes he actually got it to accept it!!!

I'm not sure how or why it worked, but IIRC, he was swiping his finger back and forth instead of just from top to bottom. But he sure did trick it!!

I have the HDX18, but I'd be curious if any of you have had this happen?? Or maybe some people want to have other try to log into Windows using their fingers like my brother did and see if it works or not.

    Food for thought......

I'm really not surprised if you have it on default settings.... like a cheap lock is designed to keep honest people honest.

I would maybe bump us the security level a notch and see if he can do it again.

go to your persona software and logon, bottom left go to properties, the security tab will show you the slider.. it should be on medium high by default... raise it to high and have him check his luck at logging on again.

This discussion has been very helpful. My grandchildren have just begun to "play" with my Dv8 and I set them up with their own, non-admin, account and set up browser site restrictions, but you've scared me now.

I went into the finger reader and set it to High security level and everything still works for them and for me. I figured it was only a matter of time before they'd start trying their fingers on my login .... <G>

Thanks for nudging me into going into the settings for the fingerprint reader software that I had largely ignored until your posts.

    Regards,
    - - Phil

No problem Phil! Better safe than sorry. ;)

I'd be interested if anybody is willing to have others try to trick their Fingerprint readers like my brother did when it's set to the default security setting.

Also, I'll make sure he tries again once he comes over now that the my settings are maxed out! :D

I have a feeling like many other things its based on how well you calibrate or "teach" it.
If your sloppy and use different parts of your finger during the swipe when teaching it.. or even using too many fingers for it to learn may only widen the room for error when it attempts to readback later for clearance.

I also suspect that the highest settings are quite a bit more picky making a perfect swipe more of a necessity.

If you teach it with good consitent swipes and then turn it to high, I will be surprised if it still allows tricky to sneak by.

So what is this actually accomplishing?

I saw folks on that thread that couldn't get thier brightness sliders to work etc which are not an issue on my system as they work.

Are they trying to get more brightness out of the screen?

Still have the volume, bass, treble sliders "capacitance" as found on the top of the keyboard.

The sliders I'm talking about for display are found here:
Go to control panel, then personalization, display "lower left", then adjust brightness " upper left", at the bottom you will see a slider...

If you move it, it should instantly work.

Are you trying to access a onscreen display slider activated with keys?

Hold function and hit F7 to dim or F8 to brighten... but I don't get an onscreen display with it.. it just works......
But I've never had an onscreen with any laptop I've ever had so I don't miss it or feel like I need it.....
A display bar is to give visual feedback, the screen brightness itself does that... I don't need a bar to tell me I'm all the way up.

Forgive me if I've missed the point.

Color Accuracy/Color Management for the human naked eyes.

DV8t's laptop screen has the capacity of the wide color gamut with over 70%(CMO180X) ~90%(LTN184HT) Adobe RGB.

XPS 16 RGB LED-->113% Adobe RGB
    Lenovo W510 RGB LED--> 95% Adobe RGB

Yeah, I know about that. I just thought that you guys had a touch panel like the Volume/Bass/Treble Sliders at the top that was for display brightness.

I just go to Mobility Center for that or use FN+F7/F8.

Just a misunderstanding is all. :)

Everest reports I have the Samsung 184HT03-001 monitor on my DV8. Is that the one with ~90% gamut?

Interesting thing is it says the manufacture date was 2008! Find it hard to believe that could be correct.

You're welcome. Btw, there's a new nvidia 258.96 beta driver (link shown on the last page of the driver thread) that seems to be very good so far. The clock adjusting up and down on it seems very sensitive and fast. I'm liking this driver the best so far. Lately they seem to be getting better and better.

When I look with Astra 32, my monitor is made my Seiko Epson.

Then at the bottom it says "internal vendor" Samsung.

Seiko Epson -> EPSON LCD Driver ( High Quality LCD Driver )

    Samsung LTN184HT03-001--> Samsung 18.4 Laptop 1080P LCD

Now you have the better LCD quality than most of the mainstream laptops.

    2. Notebookcheck's review on the 18.4 1080P screen comparison between 18.4 samsung and 18.4 CMO.

    Notebookcheck: Review Clevo M980NU Notebook

    Quote from this review:
"In this way the presentable colour space of the deployed Full HD panel actually clearly lies over that of the conventional, currently deployed laptop displays. It ranks in the league of the Wide Gamut LCD displays in the MacBook Pro 17 and Lenovo W700. Only special RGB-LED panels, like that in the Dell Studio XPS 16, can top the built-in panel."

LTN184HT features dual ccfl lamps as well as the wide viewing angles horizontally and vertically. ( No color shift )

Cons: You have to carry heavy external power supply with your DV8t everywhere.

You have to play around with the nvidia desktop color adjustments (brightness, contrast, gama, digital vibrance) until you get them all to display.

Fwimbw, the settings that worked best for me are: Brightness 42, Contrast 45, Gamma 1.0, Digital Vibrance 70, Hue 0. (But that is for my external monitor. I haven't adjusted my built in display lately because I haven't used it for a while.)

And each monitor (and viewer) is probably a little different.

As one way; control panel, device manager. Then click monitors, then right click the model listed (generic) and hit properties. Details tab then in the drop down box select hardware IDs.

Other way is to download SIW: http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
