I was having the same problem with my COA yesterday but I just tried it and it didn't give me the error message anymore. After that everything went through fine.

Yeah! The 64 bit version of Vista should be offered as an upgrade. Since Vista was originally planned to be 64 bit and now there is a 32 bit?
I think the upgrade DVD's should come with Vista, since you can see here from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows:
"The x64 versions of Windows Vista adopt all of the positive and negative quirks of their XP x64 predecessor and add a few wrinkles of their own. Like XP x64, the various Vista x64 versions support x64-compatible PCs based on the AMD-64 (Athlon-64, Opteron, Turion processors) and Intel EMT-64 (Pentium D and Xeon) platforms. Unlike XP x64, you don't need to buy a x64-specific versions of Vista. Instead, all Windows Vista editions, except for Vista Starter, will come with both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions in the box, on separate DVDs. This includes the Home Basic (and Home Basic N), Home Premium, Business (and Business N), Enterprise, and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista."

Im still getting the invalid COA error...I am not looking forward to getting on the phone with these people.
I have the DV6119us, purchased from Circuit City on 11/20/06. -
Anyway, sorry to those pissed. But don't get too mad yet -- your keys MAY still work, but you'll need to get an x64 install disc through other means. -
Well I actually got my order to go through! even after the Coa issues! Anyway, Im supposed to get a confirmation email, it's been a couple hours since I placed the order.
For you all who have ordered, how long did it take for you to get the confirmation email? It says i have to have it and my proof of purchase. -
kept getting the "invalid COA" thing so I used that email they give you,
and put all my info into it and told them to email me back if they
needed more info -
Man, I'm getting my dv9000t by Friday the 15th but with all this COA crap going around, I think I'll wait for a while before I upgrade. I don't want to go through all that trouble.
-
ahh mine finally went through last night....i wonder how this will go...haha.
-
o Please have your date of purchase available. Systems must be purchased between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007.
o Please have your Certificate of Authenticity (COA) number (14 digits) readily available.
o Please have your HP or Compaq PC Model Number available.
o Please have your PC serial number readily available
o Please verify that your system is Windows Vista Capable. Your system will either have a logo on it or this will be stated on the packing slip that came with your PC.
ah crap I ordered mine a few days before that... -
Worked for me just now. It came back to me with a tax calculation error about 5 times, but on the 6th try it went through to the confirmation page.
-
Those of you who have gotten through, did you also have to pay something for the shipping and handling?
-
...................... -
Why arent any of the business laptops available in the list of systems? I have an nc8430 and I don't see anything but pavilions, etc.
-
The guy on the redemption help line told me to choose dv8000 as the model number, and this would be treated the same trough their processes.
BTW, I got an American guy and he was prompt/thorough. -
Just curious to know...has anyone here taken delivery of their Vista upgrade kit yet?
I was able to place my order online last week, and the status remains as "order confirmed." BTW, the order was processed w/o any S/H charges assessed. -
-
Yea, everything I read indicated that we aren't actually going to receive the update kits until 6-8 weeks after the offiicial Vista launch.
-
oh, we still have a while, then whats the point of rushing. Ill order mine after new years or something.. hopefully the website will be fine by then.
-
My COA# is still not working on that website. I just got a reply from the email provided on the COA# authenticated web page. They gave me a link to place my order:
https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/default.aspx.
However, there's no way to go further after step 2, since HP is not on their reseller list at all. What a shame!
I was wondering how you guys got it through and what to do next, thanks. -
I selected Media Center 2005 as my current operating system and it says I qualify for an upgrade to Vista Premium Home 32bit. Why am I not getting the 64bit version???
-
My coa would not work as well after a week of trying. I called friday and was told that my coa number would be reset in 24 to 48 hours and to try again monday. It appears the first you use it is recorded and will not work again unless reset. The best part was I didn't even have to try to understand a foreign language accent. Which may be more my fault but regardless I can't understand it. My call was answered in America. What a relief.
den -
Well, after days of trying i finally got my order through yesterday, but not with my first try, but with my 6th.
-
Thanks for the info. Guess there will be a bunch of us in the queue patiently waiting for shipment of Vista in February or March. However, I don't plan on installing it for quite some time...after some of the initial bugs are discovered and fixed.

I called 1 800 817 5602 and was told that my order had gone through. I didn't know that it had, I got as far as entering my shipping info then got the "Unrecoverable Error" message. The problem was that I didn't get a conformation number. The lady I talked to gave me the conformation number and when I checked it showed that my order had gone through.
-
I had the same problem. It told me my COA was not vailid. I contacted HP tech support twice in 7 days. One tech told me it is a known issue and try back in a few days. ANother tech told me to just mail in my documents. I will only do that as a last resort. So I tried it again this morning after waiting about 2 weeks. Now I can only enter the HP series number pc and the OS info. I then get a message saying to try back later. I can not get to the page to enter my COA, serial number and so forth. I love HP but I think it is unfortunate that there is no info on their website about this known issue, especially since a Tech told me it is a known issue. However I feel better knowing that other people are having the same problem and not just me. I wrote HP a letter. I have no idea what that will do for me but I wanted them to know that it is upsetting to customers to have opened the website and not be able to do the upgrade.
-
Are we positive that the 64-bit version won't be on the disc and that perhaps it's simply what is on HP's driver disc? I actually just emailed the Contact address on the Vista Upgrade page with the question. I'll be sure to share my supply.
Edit: And what do you think the chances are that HP will have driver support for a 64-bit Vista dv9000t? Seeing as it's one of their best models out there right now, I would think that they would. Any ideas? -
Try and try again. It seems that the microsoft side (where you actually place the order) is very limited in bandwidth and it takes many (took me over 2 hours - on and off) tries to get the order placed, and just as many to confirm the order.
For those who have not gotten past the first couple of screens (and encountered the 'try again later' or 'unrecoverable error' messages), don't give up. Simply use the back button (do not use the link on the page to try again - this takes you back to square one and you have to re-enter all the data) and wait a few minutes, and try again. Eventually, you will get to the payment page (yes, you have to pay for shipping), and there you enter your card info and actually submit the order. You will get a confirmation via email (or snail mail if you did not provide a valid email address), and will have to send, fax, or email your receipt. If you email your receipt, you should be able to view the confirmed order the next day (24 hours later). However, you may not have a ship date (mine did not).
Again, it does take many tries and it is not HP's fault, rather it is the ordering site (ms) which is used for upgrades from all manufacturers' and retailers'.
Wayne
PS The ship date is subject to drivers, and thus far, I believe that there is a lack of 64 bit drivers for most of the HP (and other) notebooks out there, which is why the upgrades are 32 bit. -
For those who have been able to submit their orders. What does your order status say? Mine changed from 'Order confirmed' to 'COA validated' and hopefully they received the receipt that I mailed last week.
-
My order says coa validated and no cost but nothing about shipping cost or date of shipping.

The more I think about it, the more I think it won't be the end of the world having the 32-bit Vista. I can always go for a full upgrade later, perhaps even with "Anytime". And it will also give me an amount of time that I can wait for the transition for support of 64-bit Vista from software and hardware standpoints. I might see the 64-bit drivers I need put up later on. And like I said, we might end up seeing a 64-bit option on the Express Upgrade path, only without full HP or OEM support. Though I've also heard that drivers will be released pretty universally for full Vista support. Should be interesting.
My only worry though is how the manufacturers are all pushing 32-bit systems for Vista. If the first wave of shipments of systems are all shipping with the 32-bit version of Vista, then that might completely set back the 64-bit era for another year or two, making developers focus on 32-bit Vista instead of the 64-bit programming, like they're supposed to. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Hi, I live in India but purchased my dv 9030us from USA, will I get my vista upgrade ?
-
-
I got an email saying that they sucessfully processed my scanned/emailed proof of purchase. I am still having problems tracking my order online though, I keep either getting errors or else the site seems to be down completely.
-
Is it really free ??
They asked me to pay USD 55.00 as a Total price without shipping and handling !!!!
If that is the case, then It is better to buy it from a retailer than buying this sh**. -
got this email today
-
For now, though, I'm not even betting on full 64-bit driver support from HP (or most other companies). A new Vista Conexant HD Audio driver hit the web this week and had me hoping that I'd be able to resume from standby and have sound finally. But it was a 32-bit driver only... not a good sign of things to come. -
It's letting users from Europe, well the UK at least, order the kits now.
Might do it this weekend some time. -
Anyone know how long it usually takes for it to say COA validated? It's been a week and no word yet.
-
But a week ago, I hit an error checking my status, so I emailed the support and they said my COA was reset and that I should replace my order. Thing is, I tried again later, and the status worked. So now I emailed support back asking them if I still need to reorder. I don't know if they meant in the email that it didn't work because "My COA has been reset" or if they ment "OK, we reset your COA so that you can reorder."
Screw customer support. Now I have to wait all weekend and probably half a week after that to get a response.
Oh, and to clarify the 64-bit issue, it's nailed down that you have to get the same bit version of Windows that you're currently using.
Here's hoping that Vista will take care of a lot of the driver issues for 64-bit itself though, as I've heard it does. -
i have called them 3 times in last 3 weeks, finally got my coa# validated! what a shame!
it was supposed to be a payment for the shipment, but there seems no payment at all. so weird?
