Dunno if anyones posted on this yet but....the $50 rebate you get for a customized notebook @ HP.com must be sent in 45 days after purchase. The estimated build and ship times for the custom ZV6000's are 46-50 days. I ordered mine 4/1, but its not supposed to be done till 5/13 + 3-7 days ground shipping. Thus a problem.....also, HP rep.'s say min. 30 days to build, but thats still cutting it close when you add normal shipping....I just hope they can put their conglomo-power to use and crank those things out quick!

When I ordered mine from Office Depot on 4/12/05, their puter stated there was a 9-day build time. That is 9 business days is what the "clerk" stated. He said the last HP run they had was delivering the puters in 2 weeks. He also stated if there is any problem collecting on the rebates just let him know, as they will then step in to get them done. He added that includes the Office depot one. He didn't say but I took that as an implication they must of had problems in the past?[?]

yeah, well it will have to be the ship date, because the purchase date is definitely over 45 days from when you'll be able to send it in. And I hope CRUZR is right, because I'm getting obsessive about checking emails for a tracking notification....I need my fix!!![ :p]

Order my ZV6000 from costco 4/4 and it arrived today. Funny thing. Costco on line show the order still in process. Just glad I was home to accept it today.

Just ordered this ZV6000 from Office Depot last week.

    Athlon64 3500+
    1G RAM (2x512)
    40G HD 4200
    8X DVD +/-RW (single layer)
    ATI Exp. GPU 128M
    Wireless + Bluetooth
    Brightview (1280 x 800)
    12 cell bat

    1) I don't know which Athlon64 3500 HP will ship? Newcastle (130nm) or Winchester (90nm)? The performance is alittle bit difference but I care more about the power/heat since this is a laptop.
    http://www.amdboard.com/athlon_64_3500.html
    2) Somebody in this forum has seen the brightscreen of his ZV6000 is not glossy compared to his old ZV5000. Did HP have changed the screen? When will you really need a screen resolution higher than 1280x800?
    3) I haven't found any proffessional technical review for this new ZV6000 on internet yet. How do you like your HP laptop? Is it reliable (compared to Dell, Sony)? Any major issue?

I was in circuit city today and the zv6005's screen looked pretty glossy to me.

    AMDemon,
What day did you buy it. If it was 4/16/05 or before there is a $150 rebate. Here is a link to it: http://www.techdepot.com/rebateinfo.asp?rebateId=14322

Hope you got it early enough...

Been following this forum for a few days now & I finally went ahead & placed my order through officedepot's Computers4sure.com since it didn't charge me any sales-tax, yet Techdepot was going to charge me 6% (GA)!!

I found this to be a spectacular deal:

    AMD Athlon-64 3200 2Ghz
    1 Gig DDR SDRAM
    40GB Harddrive
    8X DVD-ROM
    56k modem
    15" standard screen
    standard battery

    $896-$50hp rebate = $846 + $39UPS

    Currently I have a Presario 2199us w/
    Athlon 2800+
    40GB
    512 SDRAM
    15"
    DVD/CD-RW
but, no USB 2.0 & needed that for burning dvd's externally...

The site said 9 business days, so did the local OD store...yet HPshopping says May31 & Costco 4-6wks

I hope I made the right decision considering I just cancelled a phenomenal deal online for a Dell Inspiron 1150 w/ P42.8Ghz (No HT) 512 SDRAM/40GB/Integrated wireless/dvd-rom for ONLY $599 through Smallbusiness section (Offer expired few days ago, so don't look for it)...Normally the most you could get for that amount is a sh**ty Celeron, so I felt it was worthy of my purchasing at the time...

    Gary,

Thanks for the heads-up!!...Unfortunately, I only stumbled onto the zv6000 deals on the 16th itself, I didn't purchase it until a couple hrs ago [V]...But, until your response I had NO idea that I could've saved an ADD'L $150!!...Woww! But, I still think this was a good deal w/just the hp rebate of $50 considering it has 1GIG SDRAM & all the great things I've heard mentioned on this forum about the uncomparable attributes of the Athlon 64's...

P.S.- How would you compare the 64-3200+ to say an avg. P4 w/HT or Pentium-M Centrino (Performance-wise)?? And, how does the Athlon-64's L2 cache compare to those of its competitors?

Thanks in advance to any responses!!

    AMDemon, if I might interject:

1.) It destroys any regular P4 Chip available in everything except Video/Audio encoding (939 Socket= Easy Chip Upgradeability, and no Pentium on the market right now is 64-bit, all of the AMD Athlon 64 series are 64-bit, plus AMD's "Cool and Quiet" technology means exactly what it entails; better heat disipation and less noise. Oh yeah, it's also 1GB FSB, All regular p4's are 800MHZ = 'nuff said - anyone who tells you GHz are more important is in denial)

2.) L2 Cache is half of P4 = 512KB v. 1MB, but pit any AMD with the P4 counterpart on the best MOBO they make with the same GPU's and I can [almost] guarantee the AMD will make the P4 look like the P.O.S. that it is and show how minor the diff. in L2 Cache is!

    Thanks, Sarvaga!!...That was very reassuring...

& actually...it seems that Intel does have a few VERY expensive highend P4's w/over 1Ghz FSB, these also have an L3 cache of 2MB in addition to 512kb L2...Just an FYI

What does this mean??...L1...L2...L3...Is the higher amount the better (When comparing Caches intrinsicly)?

can you take advantage of the $150 rebate if you didn't go inside office depot to configure your system? It says in-store only. I was also curious about the L2 cache being only 512kb, what is an L3 cache? is that better than L2?

Anyone know if the HP Mobile remote (the type for the dv 1000 and dv 8000) will work with the zv6000? Looks like the unit has an IR receiver on the front, but not sure if that is how the remote works.

Intel uses large caches to compensate for their poor bus architecture and to soak up their excess manufacturing capacity. AMD's low-latency on-chip memory controller and more efficient design means that adding cache has less of an effect. L1 cache is fastest, followed by L2 cache, and L3 is generally external to the CPU chip itself (a few server CPUs use it, really don't see it anywhere else).

I'd disqualify P4's from notebook use just over the power they burn (hot!), let alone the generally slower performance vs. an Athlon 64. The Pentium M is decent but it's also 32-bit-only, and 64-bit WinXP launches on Monday (already available to MSDN subscribers). It might take a while for driver support to catch up, but hardware-wise you'll want to be ready.

Comparison: Dell Inspiron 6000 vs. HP Pavilion zv6000
I'm looking for help deciding which of the 2 laptops I just bought is better suited for me and which one has better resale potential. The Dell arrived today and the HP should arrive in a couple/few weeks-- so I likely will not have the chance to play with both units and compare side-by-side. Both were really good deals and I'm excited about both of them, but I will be keeping only one. First-time laptop owner (except the occasional work unit), never touched either model prior to purchase.

    Major Specs/Features:

    Dell Inspiron 6000
    Pentium M 730 (1.6GHz, 2MB cache, 533MHz FSB)
    XP Home
    256MB RAM (will add own 512 stick @ $65-80 for 768MB total)
Integrated Intel Media Accelerator 900 graphics
    15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
    DVD-ROM/CDRW combo drive
    40GB HD
Intel Pro wireless 2200 internal wireless 802.11b/g, 54mbps
    6-cell battery
    extra 9-cell battery
    1-yr basic warranty
$776 including tax + cost of additional 512MB RAM

    HP Pavilion zv6000
    Athlon 64 (64-bit) 2.0GHz 512kb L2 cache
    XP Home SP2
    512MB RAM (1x256)
128MB ATI Radeon Express 200M graphics card
    15.4" WXGA (1280x800)
    DVD-ROM/CDRW combo drive
    60GB 4200RPM HD
54g Integrated Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
6-in-1 digital media card reader (more flexible than the Inspiron's which I think takes only SD)
    FireWire port
    Two 12-cell batteries
    4 USB ports
    1 S-Video TV out
    1-yr standard warranty
$770 including tax and after rebates

Both of these laptops, I may ebay a battery to make a few bucks.

    Planned use:
Pretty light-duty stuff: web browsing (often 3-5 browser windows concurrently), MS Office applications including some PowerPoint stuff, no gaming except for preschooler's games, DVD movies in the car. Won't travel out of house very often with laptop - estimate 2-4 times a month. Looking forward to some wireless web browsing and computing around the house. We have 2 desktops at home, so storage space is not really a consideration on the laptop.

The Dell has a much nicer screen but other than that I think the HPs might be better - faster, a few more features, plus it's 64-bit so presumably more future-proof. I am having trouble deciding which one I think I should keep. The Dell with 768MB RAM and integrated graphics probably will be plenty fast for what stuff I will do on it, right? I suspect the HP's 512MB RAM + 128MB graphics card also will be more than sufficient.

(Sorry for cross-posting this in a Dell topic also, but I wanted to reach both Dell users and HP users.)

Does anyone know that the ZV6000 with "54g Integrated Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth" supporting "Speedbooster"? If not, do you think a wireless router with speedbooster will make any speed improvement with this adapter?

brianstretch knows whats up. And you're right, the P4 "Extreme Edition" as they are so radically named, are powerful enough, but keep in mind their price difference alone makes them almost incomparable to the AMD line-up(P4 660's start at about $700 and the 'EE's can go for about a grand). PLUS, every Pentium chip will be outdated in the relatively near future as AMD moves towards producing the salacious dual-core chips that i'm willing to wager will absolutely decimate the competition.
However, if you're interested in seeing some very recent and unbiased direct comparisons that show off each chips pro's and con's when it comes to the upcoming 64-bit leap, check out the link I've included for some extensive and straightforward testing.

Yes, it definitely seems like the HP has better specs and features, but I wonder if they will prove beneficial considering my planned usage. I am kinda expecting to really LOVE the WSXGA+ screen on the Dell once I fire it up, and that would be a benefit I'd experience every day.

It does seem almost ridiculous what specs people were able to get for $700-900 in the recent Office Depot hp zv6000 deal.

And to bluedevils- there shouldn't be any decision, the HP destroys the Dell in overall features, plus, what the do you need that high of a resolution for anyway if your just using it for light work and a little bit of entertainment? your DVD's will look just as good on the HP as the Dell, you just can't make the desktop as microscopic as you can with the dell (if you're into squinting, then go for it!) - my suggestion is to toss in a couple more $$ and go with the brightview so at least you don't have to worry about the curse of the glare. the zv6 is all the machine u need: Dell FSB 533Mhz vs. HP FSB 1Ghz = no contest

Well, I already ordered the HP - without the BrightView. I just couldn't find enough comments on it to have an idea of whether it would be better or worse than the standard 15.4 WXGA screen. Actually, I thought the consensus was that glare was more of a problem with the BrightView than without? Now I'm really confused. The extra $25 wasn't a concern; I just wasn't sure if I would like it.

The Dell, I could have put my money toward dedicated graphics instead of the WSXGA+ screen. That may have been an unwise choice. I wanted to keep the price as low as $750 as possible. I spent an extra $125 on the screen and $50 on the P-M 730 CPU (vs. the standard P-M 715).

Maybe I'll end up keeping the HP and ebaying the Dell. Not sure if I would take a loss on the Dell, though. Obviously the market will be totally flooded for a while with the recent $750 off $1500 deal.

I just oredered the zv6000 from Office Depot. After the $ 200 or $ 250 rebate, it comes down to $ 629. Not bad for an AMD 64 3200+, 40 Gb hdd, CDRW/DVD, 256 Ram ( I have another 256 Mb wich I will slap in ). The sales manager said it will arrive in two weeks. A confirmation e-mail sent the same day also confirmed 2 weeks. It better be 2 weeks.

ALso, I noticed that someone was worried about the rebate not coming in. There is a tough law on that. If the manufacturer does not comply, the seller must klick in and take care of the problem.

I hope this will go smooth,( since I ordered a second one for the daughter of one of my friends as a birthday gift ) or I'll raise a lot of hell :)

Yeah, it sounds like those OD and Costco deals are unbeatable, but I am really curious to see how fast they are actually shipping them. I ordered mine directly from HPShopping.com on 4/1 and was quoted a ship date of 5/13- although it was fully customized with all of the top upgrades except the biggest HD and I could see that amounting to a little longer build time. Another person on here ordered from Costco on 4/4 and claims that it has already arrived. I wonder if OD and Costco have certain custom models pre-stocked or are getting them quicker than individuals who buy directly from HP. I don't mind paying the xtra $$ to order from HP.com, but it better mean that I'm just as high (if not higher) on the build list priority if they are selling and building on a first-come-first-serve basis. So if anyone happens to recieve theirs and ordered from either OD or Costco, be sure to put up a big post in CAPS or something so there is some hard data to guage this situation by. Also, I was the one who posted about the rebate, and it does indeed say the rebate must be postmarked no later than 45 days from "purchase OR ship date", so at least all is good in terms of that.

    Cheers

Is there any reason(s) why I should be compelled to add $23 to my configuration for integrated wireless??...I still have time to cancel my current order/put in a new one w/the addition

(I already have a 802.11b router & notebook cardbus 802.11b adapter)...Would getting the integrated wireless help me out in the long-term since it's compatible w/802.11g??

    Thanks!!

    spdamf,

Until 04/16 OD through in-store as well as (supposedly) via its Techdepot.com & Computers4Sure.com subsidiaries, was offering an exclusive $150 mail-in rebate http://www.techdepot.com/pro/rebateinfo.asp?stchg=1&rebateId=14322]...This was in addition to their EXTRAORDINARILY low instant savings on all zv6000's & the 50% off all upgrades-offer...On top of that, HP still has a $50 Mfr. mail-in rebate.

EVERYTHING but the $150 OD rebate is STILL EFFECTIVE (as of this writing)...Exceptional deal even w/out the other mail-in IMO. (In fact, I took advantage of it after the 16th)

The R4000 is now online and can be customized at HP.com...

Also both the ZV6000 and the R4000 can now be configured with the Athlon 64's upto 4000+(2.4GHz, 1MB L2 cache).[ :p]

    But no higher resolution screen...

    hi

if i add 1 x 1gb ram in a zv6000 which already has for example 1 x 512 mb, will it work fine? i know that sometimes there are problems with different sizes in dektops so how is it in notebooks?.

and if i add ram by myself will i loose the guarantee?

    thanks

    spdamf,

I purchased it Sunday, and the rebate ended also Sunday. It's a combo of rebates, $ 50 from HP and $ 150 from Office Depot.

It had to be ordered from TechDepot ( I guess this is where Office Depot is "customizing" the computers ).

It's funny how they broke down the cost per part:
    Windows XP Home .... $ 0.50
    MS Works............ $ 5.00
    HP zv6000........... $ 317.00

Well, my zv6000 that I ordered on 4/1 has turned into the Compaq R4000 (Athlon 4000+, ATI128mb,, 80GB HD, 2GB RAM, 8xDVD-RW dual layer, wireless/blue,12 cell= 1797-30$ rebate=1767$! I had paid 1897$ for the zv6000 w/ 3500+, 60GB, 1GB RAM, and the rest same, but holy $hit! Thank god HP's cust. service kicks ass and they let me cancel the zv6000 that I ordered 3 weeks ago and replace it with a machine that makes the zv6 I WAS going to be getting look like a weak kids toy!!!HP is so hush-hush, that this nice suprise made my day!

yeah- it doesn't get much better than upgrading to way better components for considerably less money!! I do wonder why the hell the HP vers. is so much more though? HP rep. said it had something to do w/ included software, but who knows???
