You can call Hp, they'll ask u for ONLY the following:
State & city of attending campus
Name of institution
Student ID#
Student Name
& presto, when u log-in at Hpshopping.com there will be a little bagofmoney symbol next to all the prices (They'll automatically be 6% lower)

I actually am going to purchase one at hpshopping.com tmw. It comes out cheaper than OD if you receive a educator/student (epp/app) discount of 6% (before $200savings) plus if u signup @ Fatwallet.com, they'll give u 3% back...No shipping, No tax (For most states, except mine & a couple others [V])

@ OD in-store:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2.0GHz)

I'm really frustrated for the HP policy on the notebook. I've waited for a long time this new series zv6000 and at last the graphics card is still not combarable with an ati 9700 you can find in all the main competitors.
The only way to have a medium nb is to but the z8000 series... too much heavy for me.
Do you any idea if they will sell a new series with the ati x600?
thanks
Titta -
Yeah, the CC deal lacks a good speed HD, has only 2x256MB RAM modules, lacks bluetooth, lacks the 12cell battery.
However, a great deal nonetheless...If that suits your needs.
(Considering if you click on to CompUSA they offer the same config. for $250 more before HP's $50 rebate)
Bestbuy also sells this model in-store only, so I'm not sure of their price.
P.S.- There also exists another pre-configured model, the ZV6015us sold @ CompUSA also...$1,199 after MIR only add'l features are 1GIG RAM/100GB 4200RPM HD over the zv6005us -
hey,hope the gurus can help me clarify this out. I ran AMD CPUID utility, my ZV6000 correctly identifies as an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, but the clock speed test shows only 1701mhz??!! it was plugged in and not running on battery power. What i'm puzzled is that there is an almost 300mhz discrepancy from the stated 2.0ghz clockspeed of the chip? Can anyone enlighten me pls? Underneath is the link to the screen capture....

My assumption would be that AMD needs to update their CPU ID program (or you're running an old version). Try MobileMeter.

I think HP has underclocked my zv6000. I noticed that the multiplier is only 5.0 instead of 10. which means my Athlon 64 3200+ is running at 2000x5=1000mhz? This is really worrying me...does anyone know if i can change the clock multiplier thru bios? pls help,thanks... the screen capt of CPU-Z is underneath....

It means HP did use desktop CPUs (if you had a notebook CPU it'd be 800MHz at 0.95V) and PowerNOW! is working. Do something CPU-intensive and it'll jump up to 2GHz. MobileMeter will graph CPU speed over time.

Thanks dude, ur a lifesaver! i was about call HP and ask why. U sure saved me alot of hassle and the HP CSO plenty of grief! [

Hi all:
Does anybody know if HP might release a 17inch DTR with the Athlon 64 in the near future?
Thanks for any info. -
Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a zv6000 at Office Depot and just had a question for anyone who has ordered from there and received theirs. With the 128MB dedicated video upgrade option, do you get the media-reader, firewire ports, pci-express slot etc.? These are listed at the HP site together with the video upgrade option, but I haven't seen any mention of them at Office/Tech Depot, nor anyone I've been able to reach at the store or on the phone there.
Thanks! -

Hi fellow zv6000 owners, I just got mine and was wondering if anyone had tried playing Guild Wars on it. I want to buy the game, but not to find out it doesn't play smoothly. I was a little bummed to try Doom3 and find that it isn't really playable.
My config is:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2.0GHz);
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800);
512MB DDR SDRAM (1x512MB);
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2;
60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive; DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive;
128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM);
54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth;
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery;
Thanks! -

have you tryed DL the latest Omega drivers and O/C abit.
dont know if that will help but worth a shot. -
dwn99,
It's gonna be hard to find someone who plays guildwars..AND has just received their ZV6000. Just saying that because we still have yet to see some real good reviews on more pooompular games like everquest II, WOW, and Half Life 2...
however since you have received your's..we can certainly help in getting the games you have playable..
First major question would have to be have you reformated yet? And what are the specs of your laptop?
p.s. My bad if you mentioned your specs in the previous 20 pages..I'm very lazy -
Guild wars shouldnt' be a problem. it isn't a very demanding game.
-
hmmm..I was just informed that the memory interface on these things is 32-bit. this is very disappointing. I think the Doom III benchmarks of 10fps sound right on the money. Like I said though..I'll still report back with all the info once I get mine..

i plan on playing fps.. i shouldn't have any problems running wolfenstein et and cs, should i? especially on low graphics since everyone lowers graphics to minimize ping. give me your thoughts.

...sorry ..just to add ..are the speakers from harman/kardon on this one ?
-
hi all... I am trying to write my first reply. I hope this work....
Eric []
hi nyumnyum, Brian, and all -

A few replies/comments to anyone interested... Since I do have this laptop I thought I could offer some perspectives, let me know if you have any other questions I can help with.
Thanks to all that have offered their input to my question about getting Guild Wars to work. I really still don't know what to expect until I try it myself. But the one person that said they tried it and it ran ok was encouraging... Of course he ended the thought with "I wouldn't recommend it". I have since bought Guild Wars, just afraid to open it since I can't take it back after that. lol

I really do like this laptop, the performance on it is fine *except* for when it comes to games. The video card seems to really hold it back. I don't think you are going to get any better performance just because you order a faster processor. I got the 3200 by the way, my full system specs are listed 1 page back. I do think that there is a slim possiblity that 1 gig of RAM could help my gaming. So I will likely pick up another 512 MB and drop it in. I was optimistic that the card would be "good enough". Perhaps months down the road better drivers will be released that improve performance? we can only hope.
bOOm and anyone else concerned with gaming -
I really can't say what games will work and what won't. I havn't tried too many games. I have installed Doom3, Vampire:Bloodlines and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I consider all of these games to be demanding on a system, and on intial startup of all 3, they really are unplayable. Yes, I do set all settings to their absolute minumum and that just doesn't help enough. So perhaps I need to play around with settings more and something will just click, but so far, it's been no good on these 3 games. I don't have Wolfenstein or CS, so I can't try them for you. I think it's possible they will work, but I don't know. Honestly, I wouldn't just assume they will work if I were you.
About the ATI Omega drivers-
I tried downloading and installing them and they gave me the blue screen of death too. I had to rollback. I have a feeling that people just throw out that suggestion to all ATI performance questions and it tends to work with the standard Radeon cards. But I think since this 200M card we have is so new these Omega drivers aren't compatible. I haven't researched that comment at all, I'm just guessing. In the few posts I have read about Omega drivers if you read closly people will say they got improved performance on their ATI card, but I haven't read anyone actually say "with this card on this laptop". So if anyone actually knows how to get the Omega drivers working, I'd certainly like to hear how.
So yes beleive it or not, I really do like this laptop - I keep reminding myself that it was such a smoking deal. I travel A LOT for work (every single week I'm in a hotel), and mostly what I wanted to do with this thing is watch movies, read digital comics and play games... (oh yeah, and work stuff, but any laptop can do that). So the wide/brightview screen is awesome for the first 2. And if I could get a game to run, it would be the perfect laptop. I just don't want to keep buying games to test out. I'm sure I could get something like Baulder's Gate 2 to run, but I just want to play some of the newer games.
I'm just annoyed that it is so big and yet still can't play any demanding games. Of course I know it has nothing to do with size and everything to do with the graphics card, I'm just pointing out how annoying that is. Seriously, a laptop this big is normally considered a "desktop replacement", and in my mind that means it can play games because, quite frankly, *any other laptop* is powerful enough to be a desktop replacement if all you do on your desktop is surf the net and word process.To me, a desktop replacement means one thing - it can play games - even if just barely. I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore. just sharing. So I'm going to click Post now. If you want to ask me questions, please feel free. I'll get back to you when I can.

Sad to say I have just put in my cancel request with HP for my ZV6000. I REALLY wanted to run some games on it... and thought I could at least run everything at 800x600...with low settings from what I have heard all around, this is not going to happen for games I play the most of right now. CS..Swat 4...First to fight...Half Life 2 (waiting for expansion)
I'm just going to wait for a better graphics solution..or just buy a laptop with a older processor..and a beefier graphics solution...
Even though it states the 200M is actually 64-bit memory interface..there hasn't been a card castrated THAT bad since the GF2 MX. Even the GeForce 2 GTS had a 128-bit mememory interface. The amount of memory and speed of the Core and Memory will do nothing if the memory interface is shortened to 1/4th of what all modern generation cards are at. I would assume the only thing that will run at a 40+ fps are pre Quake III games...
this is all speculation however..since I have not received mine yet. -
Just a word of warning... I tried the Kingmax 512mb PC2700 ram from Newegg.com and it was incompatible with the zv6000. It would show up in bios and boot into Windows, but everything was screwy from there on. No programs would open, random reboots. Don't buy it for this laptop. Also, I saw another person in at the zv6000forums.com site had the same problem.
-
I've had my zv6005us for a couple of weeks now. The only issue I've run into is backing up my DVDs. I tried to backup my copy of Lemony Snickett and it came out very poor. I've backed up other DVDs with a Sony external drive before with great results. I use Ritek discs and DVDShrink.
BTW - I don't pirate. I just backup my kids' movies. They get ruined very quickly.
TIA

ok. im kinda mad right now and very tempted to cancel my order. also waiting this long for shipment is making me frustrated.
-
For what it's worth, I spoke to HP today about my order. For the second week in a row, I've compared the latest spec options/price (1st order the week before was $400 more expensive)/build-ship date, and the date has gone from 5/25 to 5/19 (on my 2nd, current order) to 5/13 as of this afternoon.
The sales guy I talked to said that they had been informed this morning about much-improved build times (parts must be getting in) and he assured me that if someone ordered a zv6000 today it would not arrive sooner than my current order [grain of salt taken]. He estimated that my PC should ship within a week or so.
We'll see...
