I don't think it's the lowest i5 possible, but i remember seeing it on the datasheet.
Edit: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/sg/en/ho/WF25a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-4150055.html
Shows it as the lowest one.

Seems odd in any case. I hope you're right about the base model just being less RAM and smaller HD, though it seems odd they would even release a 2 Gb RAM model since 4 Gb seems so standard these days.
Well fair enough, RAM upgrade on the way! -
Usually 3GB is standard when you go to customize one of their laptops, and its $50 to upgrade it to 4GB. And they usually charge around $20 for the fingerprint reader..I'd be surprised if they threw it in for free.
-
Does anyone know if they usually release the new laptops on their website at midnight, or if it's sometime during the next day?
-
Yeah I think you're right about the fingerprint reader being an option. If you look at the picture of the laptop to the right of the "Features" section, you can see that there's no reader on that laptop but there is one on the other pictures.
-
A general question for anyone thinking about the HP dm4: despite how awesome the specs seem, how worried are you about buying it before any reviews have come out?
-
Not worried at all...I bought a dv7 the day it was released and it's been serving me well with no problems for almost 2 years now. Plus, HP has a great return policy and if it sucks, i'll definitely be sending it right back.
-
Cool, thanks... the reassurance is appreciated
After looking at too many reviews and forum threads, it becomes easy to get caught up in nit-picking and expecting every laptop to fail. Then making any decision at all is impossible. I think I'm going with this one though! -
For that price on Amazon, I would have liked to see the discrete graphics included though.
Do you guys know if the discrete graphics will be switchable? Meaning if you would be able to switch from the Integrated to the discrete to save battery life?
I like the dm4 buts its battery life is rated at 6.5 hours, which usually means something like 5 hours with light usage (based on previous reviews of hp laptops), so I dont want the discrete graphics to decrease battery life even further. -
Yep, according to HP Singapore: "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 Graphics (switchable) with 512 MB dedicated" on all models.

Thanks, I went from initially purchasing a ul30vt in February to holding off for the ul30jt then to the u30jc then to the envy 14 and now to the dm4
-
I don't know if this review has been posted, but the review seems positive (well it is from a fansite).
-
Wow, this review makes me want it even more... strange though that the reviewer thinks it got a 13.3 inch screen and compares its size and weight to 11 to 12 inch notebooks. But anyway, it doesn't seem like a true fanboy-review. The facts stated (and pics) in the review are great. Wish I lived in the States!
-
Nice find on the review.
Did not know there was a quad core option!
And the graphics are much better than what was speculated to be on the laptop. -
Yeah it seems like it was born to compete with the Envy 14, why would HP do this?
I guess it is good for consumers. They can choose between premium or standard without sacrificing performance.
-
Is that really the dm4? I thought from the press shots that it's supposed to have the column of home/pg up/pg dn keys on the right side, and shouldn't it have a 14" screen? Also, on the second to last picture in the review, the lettering on the screen bezel almost looks like it says "dv3".
-
A quad core in a 13.3" is crazy! I think something is wrong in that review, perhaps the screen size?
-
Yes, though with the envy 14 starting at such a low pricepoint, and having a MUCH better display, I suspect those wanting to spend more on components would be better off with the envy 14, only knock is no blu ray option on the envy 14, they need to come out to market with a thinner version of the slot loading blu ray drives so the envy 14 can have one too.
I saw a blu ray of avatar playing in some electronics stores recently and it was far and away the clearest, video I have EVER seen displayed on a high def tv. It was beyond stunning. But oh well, in the mean time, I guess that is what those slim form factor blu ray external drives are for...
That and most people do not end up actually watching blu ray movies on a laptop. -
Yeah someone posted a link before to one of the hp international sites, and it definitely looks like i7 quad is an option for the dv3: HP Pavilion dv3-4000 Entertainment Notebook PC series Home & Home Office
sorry to be derailing the topic >_< -
nice find on the review, I'm pretty much sold on the laptop and will be ordering in the morning =)
-
Ah yes, well then it is probably the dv3, sorry. But if this is the specifications the dv3 (i7 quad + 5650) has then what will the dm4 have?
-
Here is a snap shot of HP's pre-order page

Looks like I might be returning my UL80

here's a quick video on the dm4 that was uploaded today if some of you wanted to check out..
YouTube - Award-winning design, ultra performance: The HP Pavilion DM4 -
I hope best buy carries the model with video card.
All the new DV6s have been listed on amazon for pre-order. All but one include AMDs new processors :\ -
The reviewer was wrong apparently ... this unit will have the HD 5450 GPU, not the HD 5650.

Yeah, I mentioned that to him after learning of it here. (Johan H = me)
-
It looks like HP might be about to update their online store with the dm4. When you try to view the laptops in the Ultra-Portable category or try to go to any page that would logically show the dm4, the page is not found.
-
Nice ... but I got excited about the DV3 for a minute. Thought my wait for a 13.3"/HD 5650 was finally over. Back to waiting.
Bronsky
-
Yep, I was hoping it had the 5650. It had pretty good frame-rates for being a 5470. Or maybe ATI's new cards are better than I thought.
-
Check it out: HP Pavilion notebook PCs: Models
Still dont see an option to buy them yet! AHHHHHH -
Ugh that makes sense... also seeing how the dv3 is heavier than the dm4... oh well

1 Hour to go! Is anyone else camping out the site tonight?

Are there any coupons that work with the DM4?
-
Bing cashback is currently 25% for anything you buy in the HP Home/Home Office store.
hp - Bing
Select the Bing Cashback link in the Sponsored sites section -- it will redirect you to HP with this cashback activated.
Remember, you cannot use coupons, APP, and EPP if Bing cashback is used; otherwise cashback will most likely be canceled. -
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Coupons void the 25% BCB so if you find one I wouldn't use it. My configuration,
* Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
* Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-430M Dual Core processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz
* 3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 switchable graphics
* 14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768)
* SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
* HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader + Digital Microphone
* Wireless-N Card
* Full-size island-style keyboard
* 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
* Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
* HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Now all that is left is to figure out if the student discount voids the BCB. If I can use them together this will cost only $611 but even if I can't $666 is a good price -
so we can use the bing cash back with the dm4? when you configure your laptop and order, nothing comes up on how much you save until after you purchase correct?
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
You should receive an email from Bing after you place your order after going through Bing (make sure you have cookies enabled). If not then contact Bing after 2 days and they will straighten it out.
-
I've never used bing, is it pretty simple? 25% off on the DM4 seems a little too good to be true, but its worth a shot.
-
Unfortunately, I believe that is the special APP discount pricing which no longer works with BCB either.
The 25% BCB should definitely work though on any of the new notebooks as long as you don't use coupons or use special program pricing -- as mentioned, you can always contact Microsoft if there is ever a problem with cashback fulfillment.
-
did u guys buy the extended warranty? I'm thinking of getting the 2 year + ADP for $172, but was considering 3 year + ADP for $250 but i don't think it'll be worth it since my laptop will come out around $800 or so overall. what do you guys think? just the 2 year extended?
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Rats. $666 is still a great price but I wanted even more savings. Ordering now. -
If you use an AMEX card you get one year of extended warranty... so 2 years total without paying for anything. Also, I've never used square soft, but their warranty will be cheaper.
-
i don't have an amex card =( but hearing about hp's previous laptop failure rates, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on hp's 2 year + ADP warranty deal. I need the peace of mind knowing that my new laptop is insured. if only it wasn't so expensive.. so i guess my bing's cash back savings is basically going towards that
-
That is an insane price. I don't even want a DM4 but find myself considering it just not to let such a bargain get away.
I would love to know how many new HP's sell in the next 48 hours. Quite a few, I bet.

The dm4 is very very tempting!
However I'll hold off for the Envy 14. The base price of the DM4 is $879.99 vs. $999 for the Envy 14.
I think the better screen (1600x900 and brighter) and significantly more powerful graphics (5650) is worth the wait and extra cost!
