Yes same here, the 6630 at this point is a gpu for device 13" (vaio sb) is a great option for a 13, but for a e14 is little in this time ...

I sincerely hope it is not so, because if not I'll have to discard it and go for the m14x or else other...

If they were going to add a higher end option, I think the low end option would have been a lower GPU. I am 99% sure this is going to be the only GPU.

 If only HP didn't discontinue the Envy 15 and updated it to SB with a Radeon 6000 series GPU!!! That or the article I found better be wrong. Although the 6630 is a slight upgrade from a 5650 (an underclocked one, too), I was expecting at at least a 6730 or 6750...

Well the Macbook Pro 15" managed to cram in a 6750, and the HP Envy 14 is only an inch smaller, AND slightly thicker...

I certainly hope the Envy 14 won't be as disastrous as it seems.

But if it is, Dell's new slim XPS may be an option, if their design sense and materials choice has actually improved over recent consumer models. Bonus for having one of the best screens available. Will have to await more information on both company's offerings.

At least they offer a high res screen as an option.

If I were you i would also consider sager/clevo builds. Check out xoticpc.com they have an option for a high quality screen on sager laptops (which weirdly sager's website doesnt offer).

What they do is: they swap the screens out themselves then send the original screen back to Sager. Then they provide their own warranty.

Talking about Saber 5165 is off topic here, but it uses lots of plastic and Dell XPS FHD screen is superb than anything.

I was merely suggesting alternatives to the high res radiance that HP now fails to offer.

But we do know that it cannot possibly have two 6990M's in crossfire configuration though..............

Piece together all of those random shots and you can form a fairly decent mental image. ;)

I hope that this Dell XPS 15z (as it has been called in recent rumors) will actually have good specs, just in case HP does decide to gimp out in giving the Envy 14 a 1600 by 900 display or a decent graphics card.

it aint horrible and you can really see the similarities that could make it a competitor with the envy and MBP. I still prefer my envy tho.

Yet Dell never fails to offer High res screen with their high end laptops, so they may have an edge vs the envy if HP fails to bring a high res solution back.

well actually it was quite hard to find a high def panel on dell 2-3 years ago. After the transition from the 4:3 to the the 16:10 all the higher res panel vanished.

I dont see the specs to see how it should compare to the mbp or envy, do you have any info regarding that?

The info about the specs isn't around yet. Dell has yet to release those, as we don't even know what market this laptop will be targeting (ultraportable, or something along the lines of the Envy 14 or Macbook Pros). Many people assume that it's replacing the Adamo to compete against the new MacBook airs, but judging by the pics, it looks like something competing against slightly larger notebooks.

I agree that this is to compete with the thin and light like the envy 14 (not that its light), the e420s, SB....

Im guessing that the new xps 15 is indeed a new xps 15, not a downsized model. and the 14 is going to be a new xps 14. Both were too thick and too large at launch, and the XPS always had the best designs in town ( remembers the m1330 and the m2010), so I think they are just re-releasing the line up (actually more than hope)

However I dont have proof of anything, so its all wishful thinking

From what I've read, it isn't going to replace the current XPS series, despite how horrible they look, and how much they weigh. If only they kept the same design as the XPS 1640... soo purdy

According to this article from CNET, the 15 inch version is attempting to be thin and well as powerful. So, I think it will probably be Dell's competitor to the Envy and Macbook Pro.

It would be great if Dell chose to make a slimmer Macbook Pro contender, but wouldn't that cause conflict between their product lines (the current XPS series, although heavy and bulky, are competing against the MacBook Pro)?

Also, to be slightly more on topic, does anyone know why the new HP DV4 only has an integrated graphics card on the customization page, but this link says otherwise?

Don't click on the "Pavillion DV4", click on the "HP" before it.

HP simple solution would be too make sure they got the 1600x900 screensd for launch otherwise people will be second guessing buying the laptop for something like a mbp/xpsz/sony etc. Really if the envy does not have it what will make it any better than a dv6t besides the laptop case ^_^

good news maybe hp just added 1080p screens to there dv6t line so maybe they are working on something for the envy 14 too

I wouldn't be so sure that North America got the shaft, yet. HP might release faster models in the near future.
