Thanks for posting my link.
The problems I get the most are people trying to install XP on a different type of DV6500 sold by stores, or the newer AMD version. Or people wondering if they can install Server 2003. The drivers don't match up and they get stuck.
I had one person e-mailing me back and forth saying the drivers wouldn't work. Turns out he just bought the AMD version. Well of coarse everything won't work, everyone here is in the Intel world.
The next step of these guides will be to get the Chipset, Sata, and Wireless drivers for the AMD version. There's no way we can cover every model out there, too many combinations. We've pretty much got the x500 series covered, but there's different hardware for other parts of the world.
The best advice, is for everyone to identify all hardware (cpu, sound, wireless, graphics) and get all drivers before starting. Plus burn a copy of your SWSETUP folder in Vista using Nero before starting. There's been problems with the HP recovery DVDs, they don't work. I've just added the SWSETUP folder to my guide.

Hello, this is my first post on this forum!
I have a HP Pavilion DV6500eo laptop with the following specs:
Intel Core2Duo T5450 @ 1.66 Ghz
2 GB RAM
GeForce 8400M GS 128 MB
120 GB HDD
I have tried to perform a clean install of Windows XP Pro with SP2+Intel ICH8M-E SATA driver slipstreamed (using nLite) onto the XP CD.
First, I used KillDisk 4.1 to completely erase my harddrive, then I put my XP cd into the drive, formatted the the drive and finally went on with the WinXP installation.
Everything went smooth until when I am just about to get into Windows right after the Windows XP logo is shown during startup.
After this I receive a Blue Screen and then the computer reboots, and that's it
The BSOD error message does not mention any particular driver error [for example DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL].
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Great guide by the way
-
it means that a driver for something is wrong. something could be anything in this case. i got an error like that when my wireless drivers for another computer were the wrong ones. im guessing the problem is in your Windows XP CD. where did you get yours from? please send me a PM.
thanks. -
ur walkthrough worked perfectly, thank u Mujjuman and Hackez,
Unfortunately I removed my partition and now I want it back so I must reformat again.
I have a couple of questions though.
If I install updated drivers will they replace the old ones or will I have 2 drivers for the same thing?
Also after reformatting I cant watch DVDs, I need a decoder. I know I had one for Vista so can it used on XP or what do I do?
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. -
I can't tell you how VALUABLE this post/thread
has been! We recently purchased the HP DV2415NR
laptop, which utlilizes the NForce 430 chipset,
and for reasons I won't get into, wanted Windows
XP instead of Vista installed. After all the
downloads, I followed the instructions for
creating the new boot disk, but could not locate
the SATA driver mentioned. Where on earth is it?
The Nforce chipset doesn't require it anyway so
it's a moot point for me. I was able to locate
the appropriate driver for the 430 chipset at
Nvidia's website. Very easy to navigate through,
locate and freely download. After the install,
with the SATA driver in full swing and all 160
GB recognized, it was just a matter of installing
the rest of the drivers found at Nvidia and the
Swsetup folder which I had saved before cremating
Vista
. Also a tremendous thanks to the NLITE
developers! The XP goes like a "bat out of hell",
when compared to Vista, and the previous Compaq
laptop we had.

Can someone put that image on web? so I can download it and try.. because my configuration is very close to that dv9500.. except it is dv2500.. ?
-
the new drivers will replace the old ones
all you need is a software decoder. Windows Media Player works fine for me. but there are other DVD Players out there. You can try using the one for Vista on XP, but i cannot guarantee that it will work.
however, what do you mean that you cant watch DVDs? when you insert a DVD, does a window not pop up asking you if you want to play the DVD (among other options)?
im happy that you got XP installed and running fine! i agree that it is much faster than Vista. vista made me feel like i was running in heavy slime.
are you talking about the Windows XP CD image? -
hello, I bought a HP DV6575US and i hate vista, but what about tv tuner?, can i use tv tuner in XP??, can i use fingerprint reader in XP??, if i can use tomorrow start the downgrade
-
Yes.. the SATA driver is the same.. should work for me.. because I downloaded that first link DriverPack_1.0_DVX500Series.7z and I dont know how to use it..
How can I extract it?
-
Can someone put link here for sata driver for Intel® PM965 Express Chipset?
I dont need that 200 MB super update with drivers.. I need only that small sata driver to put it in iso.
-
can someone make a thread as good as this one for dual booting ? xp/vista..
lets say i did these steps as mentioned here and installed xp.. what if i want to go back to vista ?
can i go back to vista with just hp recovery disk ? -
StenLi, you will need the entire Driver Pack regardless if you plan to switch from Windows Vista to XP.
Please stay on topic, dual/booting has nothing to do with this Guide. -
with little tweaks this thread can also turn to a lets say dual booting on dv x500 series... just a suggestion.. i think lots of people need that too..
anyway, is hp recovery disk enough for going back to vista on a xp installed system ? -
I dont need this stupik HP recovery, all I need is illegal
vista dvd and then few drivers from web.. And for XP on my SATA disk I need only SATA driver .. all these 200 MB drivers I can install later..
-
Can you tell me what should I do with this DriverPack_1.0_DVX500Series.7z ??? What type of file is that?
-
ok the DriverPack_1.0_DVX500Series.7z is ok now.. my bad..
-
TV Tuner only work with vista???
my laptop is HP dv6575 -
yes. the hp recovery disk is basically an image of your Hard Drive when it left the factory.
you need to download those 200MB drivers now if you plan to install them later.
use 7-Zip to extract it. http://www.7-zip.org/
this is stated in the guide
what TV tuner do you have? if you can find XP drivers online for the TV Tuner, then it will work in XP also. -
The guide says "Hackez's latest Driver Pack includes the latest Nvidia and Intel Graphic Drivers" but it doesn't include them. It only has "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 14.31.exe" whereas the screenshot for the guide shows a "nv_gfgo_101.34-2kxp32.exe" -- I have the same graphics card (Nvidia 8400M GS), so where can I get the proper drivers? When I tried running the Graphics Media Accelerator.exe, it gave me an error stating my computer did not meet the requirements for it to be installed.
-
Unzip the "XTreme-G 163.44 Mobile XP" file. The drivers are in there.
-
It does include them, should be XTreme-G Driver Version xxx.xx
-
Oops, I apologize. Thanks! (thanks also to Typo) I thought that was for some wireless driver.
Is the Motorola Modem Drivers mandatory?
I'm not seeing the "hp intergrated module" - I keep getting the Audio and Modem Driver find drivers dialog popping up on me, and even if I select automatically find, it won't! What should I do? -
It isn't, but to ensure system stability I would recommend installing them regardless. You never know when you may have to use it, better to be safe than sorry. Installing the drivers won't hurt your performance whatsoever, the drivers for the modem are unobstrusive and very small.
-
I'm having problems with the audio and modem drivers, which keeps asking me about it... I select automatically find drivers but it fails.
Right now, I'm at...
In "Other Devices"
it shows the ! for:
Audio Devices on High Definition Audio Bus
Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Ethernet Controller
Fingerprint Sensor
Modem Device on High Definition Bus
-
On the dv2500t it has different Audio, modem and ethernet controller hardware.. check out robvia site for info on the dv2500t and links to drivers.
Modem is a HDAudio soft data fax modem with smartCP(what vista called it) Found the drivers in Vistas swsetup/modem folder.
I dont mean to be a cross poster but...im lazy and dont want to type.

Oh, great... How can I remove the drivers so I can install the proper ones for the 2500t? Or would just installing the 2500t ones overwrite the incompatible ones for me; would it then leave me alone with the New Hardware Found message?
-
You could just remove the hardware from device manager( i think uninstall if you right click) then you can refresh and it will pick it up again. Or just try and install over the current drivers, I think thats what I did I cant remember.

Anyone know if this guide works with the 9535nr? (The 9535nr has "hp pavillion dv9000" right above the display).
It looks like hp is working hard to make it impossible to downgrade to xp; its own driver page for the 9535nr is almost empty. -
Is it possible to use the play/stop touch buttons to work with Winamp or other Players?
-
I just got a dv2500t yesterday, and after a lot of searching and trial and error (and three clean installs), everything is installed except the modem. The system seems very stable so far.
THANK YOU Mujjuman for the excellent guide! Couldn't have done it without your help. Formatting this HP was much harder than my Sony.
For dv2500t users:
Follow all the instructions on the guide, with the following exceptions:
When it says to install the Realtek Ethernet drivers, instead install the "Yukon" drivers. They can be found here.
When it says to install the "WDM drivers," instead install the Conexon audio drivers found here. Even though it says it's for AMD, install it (I'm running a Core 2 Duo). After you install it, you'll get a window that says it "couldn't find the Device" or something to that effect. Just ignore that - it'll be fixed later on when you right-click the PCI Device and update the driver.
(*Note: I installed both the Realtek audio drivers and the Conexon drivers, but I'm betting you can get away with just installing the Conexon drivers since the Realtek ones didn't work in the first place for the dv2500).
That's about it. I didn't order Bluetooth, so I didn't install the Bluetooth or the HP wireless assistant.
If anyone can figure out how to get the modem exclamation point off, let me know. Good luck! -
yes it will work
-
a note about the screenshots:
the screenshots are dated and they will soon be updated. -
Yeah, I noticed that and it made things a bit more challenging and confusing.... in the end, I can also confirm that, with the exception of different Audio/Ethernet/Modem drivers, XP installs perfectly on the dv2500t! I'm so happy. You guys rock! It's amazing how much the owners contribute and accomplish more to the product than the actual company.
-
The modem drivers are located in SWSETUP from the vista install under modem/32/

this is a great thread !! I've been looking for this procedure for some time now.
I have a dv6560ee, and I tried to turn off the bios support for the sata hard disk but it doesn't shows up on the system configuration menu.
Does anybody knows where I can turn off the sata support for this model
?
thanks in advance guys.. -
i dont think you can ever turn off SATA support. youll just have to slipstream the SATA driver
-
Hi,
I have a dv6580ec. I have a problem with instaling the ethernet and sound drivers, can you help me please?
-
sure. make sure you downloaded the driver pack.
go into the "necessary drivers" folder, and first install the "UAA Audio drivers"
then in the same folder, install the "Realtek high Definition" drivers.
finally, from the same folder again, install the "Realtek ethernet drivers".
then reboot.
umm, i havent tried. i have only tried it with WMP and a DVD Player software. did you install the Quicklaunch drivers? -
can i use your quote in my guide?
-
does anyone know if this procedure will work with the laptop in my signature?
i chatted with an HP rep online, and gave me the drivers for XP for my laptop too
and im guessing i would still have to do the whole SATA process in the beginning right? i think i may just buy an identical 160gb sata drive and remove my old one install my new one and experiment on the new one if no one knows the answer for sure -
Need your help guys, I slipstreamed the sata driver onto the xp installation cd but I keep getting a BSOD message "STOP 0x0000007B..."
Anybody experienced this? I already made 5 cds of the slipstream thinking it may be the copy I made thats making the error but it keeps coming back.
Any advice? -
no, you do not need to do the SATA slipstream process. you have a dv2000 series, not a dv2500 series. the drivers provided probably wont work for you. for the dv2000, you can find the drivers at the hp website anyway.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303786
looks like the problem is with your original Windows XP CD. where did you get your cd from? -
It doesnt work.
This notebook is AMD, so there is maybe another problem.
This hardware is still not installed:
coprocesor
SM bus
Audio on High Definition Audio Bus
Modem on ...
Ethernet controler
I cant instal Intel Graphic Drivers, Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers it crash every time i try it :-( -
I found some drivers, I cannot use
Audio on High..
I cannt find driver for this :-(
:-( -
Yes, definitely. One more thing to add: I've read in several reviews and forums that HP went with an Alps touchpad on the dv2500, rather than Synaptics. So, I installed the Alps driver from HP rather than Synaptics, and it's been working well. Here's the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=ob-16536-1

Do I need to install additional drivers for the microphone to work? Or does that only work for the webcam?

Built for today and tomorrow
The HP Pavilion dv2000 and dv2500 comes standard with genuine Microsoft® Windows® Vista Home Basic, but you can easily upgrade to genuine Windows® XP Professional if you need to connect to networks at school or work.
Isn't that misleading? -
