Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum. First of all thanks for this very detailed guide, this guide made me order my new laptop, knowing that XP is compatible. So, tomorrow I will be laying my hands on a brand new dv9542ev. My question is simple, is this guide fully working for this model, or will I have to do something extra ? The video card is an 8600 so I am wondering if there are drivers out there for this specific model. Is everything working super-fine (WLAN,cameras etc) ? (I have dowloaded all the driver packs, plus the ones I could find @ HP) Is the remote control accesible under XP?

Secondly, I have to say that this policy from both microsoft and vendors is ridiculous. There has been a new conviction from the European Court again for microsoft, but they insist on their unfair game. Here, in Greece, the shops insist on telling you stupid things, like "you will lose your guarantee if you install XP" or "santa rosa is not XP compatible"...I bet that most stores worldwide will tell their customers similar lies...So, again thanks for people like you that help us overcome the global policies, and make us free to work with our hard-earned hardware AS WE LIKE !

I purchased an hp dv9535nr notebook, and this guide WORKED! Thank you very much for creating it. A couple of issues, though:

-HP tech support was stubborn to admit that it could be done, but they caved! They actually e-mailed me saying "customer satisfaction is a priority, so here's how to do it." Basically they then just listed steps on how to download SATA drivers from a floppy. The official HP driver page for the dv9535nr is lacking almost everything though. They really are trying to make it difficult.

-Ultimately I decided to slipstream the SATA drivers onto the CD. The HP-recommended chipset drivers did not work. The ones mentioned in this forum did.

Many thanks to Hackez for downloading and zipping all those drivers; however, there are some discrepancies:
-There is an authorized 8400 and 8600 GeForce driver which should probably be included instead of the ones from TweakGuide.
-The steps provided in Hackez's readme differ significantly from the ones in this forum after the first few. I ultimately couldn't follow either one exactly to a T, because my laptop does not have bluetooth.

The only problem that resulted after my installation was that the computer did not recognize my USB ports. I solved this by opening the Device Manager, uninstalling everything in the USB Devices section, then clicking "scan for changes" and reinstalling them.

I believe the correct driver for the 8400 and 8600 is the nVIDIA ForceWare GeForce Go 101.34. That's what I'm using on my dv9535nr.

    First off,

My Driver Pack was made specifically with the DV9500T Laptop in mind. This includes the DV95XX Series because normally Laptops of the same series, in this case the DV95XX Series contain the same hardware. In my upcoming Driver Pack (Revision 1.1) I will release a disclaimer that states the above.

However, even if you don't have a DV95XX Series Laptop, 60%-80% of the drivers included in my pack will work for you. All you have to do is find the missing ones. (It seems the majority of people are having issues with the Audio Drivers and Touchpad Drivers. This is because they are different between the DV2500, DV6500 and DV9500 Series.)

The driver installation Guide included in my Driver Pack (Revision 1.0) is very easy to follow, if you don't have Bluetooth simply skip that step, not difficult by any means. The reason the installation order in my Guide differs from the forum post is because the order I used is the correct method, whereas this Guide did them slightly out of order which can cause issues. (In this case, a few of the steps in the Guide provided can be completely skipped if you had installed it in the order I have in my Driver Pack)

I will have to reformat my Laptop this coming week, provided HP gets it here tomorrow. I will update the screenshots and the install order so my Driver Pack and this Guide are perfectly fluid, time permitting as I have College and other affairs to attend to. (Tomorrow is the scheduled delivery date, but backorders and such can push those dates back. For those whom are curious I sent it in for repairs due to some keyboard issues.)

As far as the Nvidia Drivers, as of today you should be using the 163.71 Driver, any other driver, especially if they are not a 163.xx Driver can result in severe instability and issues with all graphic applications. This is because the Nvidia 8 Series of GPU's are still under heavy development with regards to the Driver Platform, so you should attempt to keep them updated at all times!

Furthermore, TweakForce (XTreme-G) Drivers have no downside whatsoever, they are actually scanned over by a few professionals who dedicate their time to iron out any issues/bugs Nvidia missed. They are also tweaked with the individual user in mind, improving performance and image quality by as much as 10%. (With no downside as mentioned above.) Nvidia doesn't even support Laptop Drivers, so you cannot obtain the drivers directly from them. (At the very least you have to grab a modded INF from a website such as www.laptopvideo2go.com) If you do not feel comfortable using the improved drivers I provide, please obtain the latest official ones from Nvidia and a Modded INF. However, I refuse to include sub-standard drivers in my Driver Pack, in short if TweakForce Drivers are out and stable I will include them. (I test them in over 20 games to ensure they are indeed better than the stock ones before recommending/using them)

Please do not send me PM's asking for me to find missing drivers for a different series of Laptop, you will have to find them yourself. I would love to help answer any questions you may have, but I will not dedicate my time to find drivers that are relatively easy to find. Simply using google will normally reveal the drivers you need.

If someone who owns a DV2500 or DV6500 wants to pack the extra drivers that those specific users need we would be more than happy to include them in this Guide.

Finally, I apologize if my tone seems disrespectful in any way. To be honest this is just the way I write. (I have had people take my comments the wrong way in the past, so for this informative post I have decided to include this)

    Thanks and Warm Regards,

    Jeremy Mullen (Hackez)

    Try using these:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3177435&os=228&lang=en

Yes, that is the identical system to the one I am using. So you shouldn't have any issues! =)

you will have to download them from the link in the Original Post. i have no idea how you even installed XP on a x500 series laptop without downloading the drivers that were provided. im guessing you have the x000 series. follow the guide.

someone else from greece have had some minor trouble... probably because this guide was intended for american versions of this laptop. there are some differences between different nations... it has to do with laws, copyrights, etc. but this guide should work 99% and all of the drivers should work for you. you might need to get an extra driver or two.

yes i hate how all these companies and organizations are suing MS as well.

btw, Santa Rosa IS XP compatible.... what they should say instead is that XP is not supported by the company

hmm, i have no idea why your USB ports didnt work at first. also, dont call hp and ask them if you can install XP or not... it just adds more stress to you because you will argue with them, and it will waste time that you need to actually get XP and the drivers installed. as you can see from the posts and your own experience, it works :)

    check OP.

the microphone should work after installing the audio drivers. however, at this time the microphone's sensitivity is too low.

    lol

it looks like your hardware is different than US versions. maybe your version of XP does not support PnP (Plug and Play). i dont even have that list in my Device Manager, so it might be europe-only or even greece-only. try to find a 'serial" driver for your laptop... "serial" could also be a fingerprint reader, do you have one?

the 768MHz (not GHz... ;) ) is the current speed of your processor. these processors work at a slower clock to save battery. as demand increases, the clock speed will also increase.

    Hallo again,
I will try to find a serial driver for my laptop but what exactly? I don't have a fingerprint reader, i wonder if this ''serial '' is something like ''infrared'' but my remote control works fine!
I understood about 768 mhz -sory for the mistake.

Thank you! i will start tomorrow morning!!!

I have another question and i guess there a lot of people who have it too, when i bought my laptop dv9500t, i ask for 512MB Video Card, so why Windows Vista just show 256MB shared memory??? That will fixed when i downgrade to XP??? of its suppose to be like that? Or they just f#$% me out! lol :/

Only 256 is dedicated memory, the other additional memory is 256 shared with your system RAM. This is clearly noted when purchasing the Laptop.

I installed the Fingerprint driver and software, but it always has trouble reading it - it says the quality is too poor no matter how much I try to swipe it. Anyone else having this problem with XP? Is bad drivers?

Also, is there a software that can display how much time the battery has left instead of percentage?

    Hi

This is my first post here. I've browsed through this thread and am glad it works for most people. However, I'm getting the same errors as Buzzlord got when trying to run nlite on my dv65xx Vista machine. I've tried moving the folders around, disabling UAC, running as Admin, tried different versions of nlite but I can't get it to work.

I've checked the forums over at nlite, but no answer has of yet been posted (people have had the same issue on XP, Vista, etc).

    Register version is 6.0

Buzzlord never got back on how to solve this, so I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problems and come up with a fix.

Needless to say, Vista is at the moment way too much in it's infancy to be a first hand choice.

Immensely greatful for any help on this one.

    cheers

I know this is probably a cardinal sin, but I haven't had the chance to read through every post. What I can say is this process, on the whole, does work with the dv2500t. The only problem I haven't been able to figure out involves getting some of the individual drivers working.

The question I would like to ask (and I realize that to some extent it is a stupid one, as all configurations have some variation) - is has anyone assembled a relatively "comprehensive" driver list for the dv2500t?

My configuration is, for the most part:

In a JPEG that I can't figure out how to attach!

I'm almost ready to give up!!

I have the C2D T7300 2.0GHz (SantaRosa?; not even sure what that means exactly), 2GB RAM, Intel Wireless Pro 4965AGN w/ Bluetooth, NVIDIA NB8M-GS graphics, Super-Multi Drive w/Lightscribe, HP Webcam, Alps Touchpad, Fingerprint Reader, and TV Tuner card w Remote, HDMI and Firewire.

Let me know if I have left anything out...

Errr, ready to give up posting my specs, not give up altogether. I've come too far to give up!

I have so far been amazed at how many people, when confronted with the reality of the XP/Vista dual boot configuration, react with - "you can do that?"

I will be happy to answer any questions relating specifically to the dv2500t, but I make no guarantees with respect to the finite limits of my knowledge.

Just a notice to everyone, I will be ceasing support for my Driver Pack because I simply do not have the time to maintain it.

I will be releasing the Revision 1.01 Driver Pack within the coming week hopefully. I will also attempt to make time to update the Driver Installation Screenshots so that they match my Driver Pack.

After those two issues are taken care of, I will only be updating the Driver Pack once every month or two to keep it current for everyone.

I will also be permanently disabling my PM's due to real life, I suggest you forward any PM's with questions to Mujjuman who should be able to assist you.

    Regards,

    Jeremy

Missing dv2500t MODEM drivers are located in C:\SWSETUP directory.

You do not need to slipstream SATA drivers for your Laptop because it is not of the dvx500t Series. This also means that my Driver Pack will propably not work, simply grab the official XP drivers from hp.com for your specific model or the dv2000 and you shouldn't have any further difficulties.

I did not slip stream SATA drivers. I just disabled native SATA on the bias and booted from an original Win XP Pro CD. I hit "enter" to boot from CD. Windows starts copying all the files and when it gets to the point where it executes to give us the "Select Partition to Install Windows" screen, I get BSOD. :(

    Not sure what is wrong.

When it BSOD's can you simply restart the computer and the installation resumes? I seem to remember issues with this before, but upon reinstall if it BSOD's where I used to have the issue (I believe the disc may have been faulty) it will continue the install without any harm done.

I got LightScribe working in Windows XP by installing the Roxio suite from the SWSetup folder existing on the Laptop (Vista was preloaded on the Laptop prior to installing Windows XP). Latest versions of suites like Nero etc also offer LightScribing facilities in the CD Labelling utilities that are bundled with it.

You should be able to burn to DVD and boot from it to set up XP. Thats what I did but with XP Pro, I don't think there is a difference with media center version?

When I burned the DVD, I also added all the drivers needed onto a seperate folder in the DVD so I would have them all in one place, along with other programs I may use, Nero, winzip, textpad, etc.

The fingerprint scanner software won't accept my fingerprint; it keeps telling me the image is low quality. Anyone get it to actually work?

use Acronis software. you can get a trial version and create an image of your drive and burn to a DVD.

the driver is located in the "SATA Drivers.zip" in the necessary drivers folder.

    [EDIT]

    slipstream screenshots put up.

I am in the process of uploading Driver Pack Revision 1.01 to a second host that will work for everyone as we speak.

Please note that this will be the last Driver Pack I release. I have recently switched from using a dv9500t to a new laptop.

A long story short is after 10 unsuccessful repairs they finally sent me a full refund via mail.

    Regards,

    Hackez

    TEN REPAIRS???

i have no idea how to make the quickplay buttons useful. you will have to download QPDP (direct play) from a website.... something that i cant recall at the moment and install it from there. i have never tried it though.

you will have to download QP or QPDP from that website, and download it too. its hard for me to remember what site it was, because i never got a chance to download anything from there. i know its an indian based website, and the webmaster always changes the download keys so thats why its hard for me to download the files. sorta like a password to access his download files. its a random key, like a serial number.

    www.asifism.com

i will upload it to megaupload if i ever get to download it and verify that it works

Hi everyone. I installed XP successfully on my dv9500t. I got everything to work (quickplay buttons, fingerprint reader and so on) but after a few weeks of using my laptop, the Hibernate function stopped working. When i push my power button to hibernate the computer the screen with "Preparing to Hibernate..." appears and thats it. I left it alone for 15 min once to see if it was only taking him so long to go into hibernation but when i came back it was still on "Preparing...". I am going to reinstall my Windows soon anyway, that might fix the problem, but i was just wondering if anyone else had similar issues ?

    thx

there must be something wrong with your Windows installation. i hope you used the drivers provided by Hackez. use the most recent version (1.01) which is now accessible via the OP. the best thing to do is to reinstall completely and use those drivers. best of luck man!

i remember i had a similar problem when i first installed XP, before i made this thread.... it was due to a bad graphics driver. then i found a better one that actually worked 100%, and it was fine during standby and hibernation.

sorry to go off topic, but how did you get your quickplay button to work?

btw, i finally got to download the quickplay directplay files using that website, but i havent installed yet. pics will be up during this weekend, and so will QPDP if i get it to work. :)
