What exact laptop model number do you have?

I'm surprised Jimmy got dv6000 drivers to work on his dv6500... normally they should NOT work at all.

taj, i'm not sure you even read the thread... you should try reading the thread first. i know the thread is really long, but it has alot of information regarding most of the dv*500 and dv*700 laptops.

according to my first post, i have received inconsistent results with dv2500t owners. nonetheless, you should still use the drivers (back everything up please) to install XP, while paying particular attention to username Typo's quotes near the top of the OP. He has some special instructions listed there for dv2500t owners.

    good luck.

If anyone needs any particular drivers for the dv6500t, including the fingerprint software for xp, let me know. I have them saved and use them every time I do a fresh install of xp. Another option is to install and run Driver Checker. It will scan your system and tell you which drivers you need or if something needs an upgrade.

Does anyone know what is THE BEST version of nVIDIA Driver for Windows XP 32-bit ? I mean which one achieves the best performance in games and highest scores in 3DMark06 ?

I am currently using 101.34 from DriverPack 1.10 by hackez and mujjuman. It works pretty well in games but I have the issue with HIGH BRIGHTNESS. So I have to set brightness in Video Options at 45% for internal LCD and 55% on my plasma on HDMI.

It's very probable that Win 7 will be better than Vista. Anyhow, it's difficult to do worse (Remember Windows Me and the 7 or 9 SP's required for Windows NT4). But, you don't necessarily need it. It depends on the type of user you are. Besides the gurus, the pure techies and kids who want to show off, it's useful for users who play video games or who run process-intensive applications (scientific calculations, etc.). But then, you'll need a Quad processor to take advantage of this potential power, which is not the case of the dvx500t.

If it's basically e-mailing, Web browsing, snapshot editing, etc. that you do, hang on to your XP. It can handle advantageously all the Pentium processors up to the dual core. It's supported till 2014 and with all the technical knowledge out there, you're safe for years to come. And all the new peripherals will support it for some time (There are a great deal of new devices today which support Windows 98 ! and it's over 12 years old).

Another important point which is a wise IT motto : never switch to a new operating system if you've got one that's running properly and which you find satisfactory (XP now runs smoothly). Only move to a new OS if you really require the new features it provides, don't follow the sheep. And in that case, wait at least for the release of the first Service Pack before you do so, to avoid unnecessary gray hair.

If you're enthusiastic about Windows 7's look on your screen, you can have the same display under XP:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/Vista-Transformation-Pack-Screenshot-32042.html or http://www.rajeshpatel.net/windows-seven-transformation-pack-2-0/

Ok - I have finally got the HDMI audio to work by installing the nVidia HDMI driver:

    http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/nForce/10.3.0.23/nForce_HDA_10.3.00.23_international.exe

this needs to be installed separately to either the Realtek audio driver or the nVidia video driver. I'm using the Realtek audio driver from the driver pack supplied by mujjuman (R_183) and nForce driver 182.5 (modded driver from laptopvideo2go.com).

HDMI audio is not listed as an audio destination from the control panel, but whatever is coming out of the pc speakers also gets sent to the HDMI output. Fortunately if you turn down the volume on the pc speakers, you get only the HDMI signal.

This might well work with newer video drivers, but I'm not going to play around now I've finally got it working.

I haven't tried using 5.1 or 7.1 surround as I only need stereo.

    Good luck y'all!

    hello Hackez and Mujjuman!

How are you? im back here.....

Sorry to ask things were asked before.

In a new partition, I have the same problem as here :

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=140131&page=14

In my dv9500t, the fan doesnt stop in XP. It is on all the time. I was not like that in vista. I even tried different power schemes and Hardware Notebook Control Program. Nothing helps.

Should I worry about it? How to stop it?

I thought that was managed from the bios/mobo.

AS always...thank you very very much!
