sorry to hear that Rajinder! This is actually a problem with the GPU.... do you have a nVidia GPU? If so, it is 99% likelihood that the GPU is totally fried, and it needs replacement. I'm not sure how you would go about that in India, but I called hp and spoke with them over the phone. They charged me with about $400USD and sent me a box in which I packed my laptop and sent to them for repair.

You should try this with a 32bit XP CD... The 64bit version you have is probably a 30-day trial version and that wont accept any service pack slipstreams.

OR what you can do is just install the 64bit version and then install SP2 on top of that. But I highly suggest sticking with 32 bit. According to my memory, I think only 1 person actually succeeded installing XP 64bit and got it working 100%. The thing is, there are some drivers that are different for 32bit and 64bit, and I'm not sure what drivers he used that was different.

Yeah i just figured that out, I wasted 2 Cd-rs until i realized i needed 64bit drivers. Thing is, i wanna use 64bit because i paid for the 4gb. Can you find sata drivers for the dv6838nr model for 64bit?

Does 64bit make much difference with 32bit? I heard i can get more potential out of 64bit.

Hi again, I installed Windows and noticed the exact same problems. Only difference was that I couldn't even start windows vista when I installed any drivers different then the VGA-card one. (Even the one from the HP site).

So I went back to the shop and in about two weeks we should know if my Graphic card was bad or not. Maybe a hint for people in the future if your computer at any time WITHOUT changing your drivers acts weired (pixels, weired colors whatever) DON't switch drivers! Just try to restart a couple of times and if the problem persists go to the shop.

Actually, as of now it doesnt make too big of a difference. Most games and programs are written in 32bit. A 64bit OS would have to emulate a 32bit environment for those types of programs.

I have 4GB RAM on my laptop too, but in 32bit I can only use 3GB. Not that bad.. Once 64bit support gets better and I can actually benefit performance wise, then I'll make the switch.

try this for 64bit SATA drivers:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...nal+x64+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=109&submit=Go!

    [EDIT]

I updated the link above. Use the link that points to the intel website, not the hp website. Download the 64 bit Floppy Disk Configuration Utility (233KB) and extract the contents to slipstream.

I searched this thread and that was a link I gave to someone else and it worked for them.

I have a little problem with my hp pavilion dv9930us, I downgraded it to xp pro sp2 successfully but my dvd burner now shows up a dvd-ram drive in my computer. Is there anyway to fix this so it shows up as a dvd burner.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Another problem I have is I tried updating to service pack 3 which updated with no problem but when I restarted the laptop and logged back in the command prompt came up with a failed to load driver error and then disappeared off the screen. Since then I took service pack 3 off as I didnt know what driver failed to load but the laptop seem to work fine to me.

My question is should I put on service pack 3 or just leave it off as I have no idea what the error was from.

Its been noted that SP3 causes problems for some users. I personally do not use it because I have had problems with it on my laptop, but it works on my desktop fine.. its actually kinda weird.

EDIT: I did!! It works fine now :D.
    Thanks anyway

    Hi,

I wonder how did you "I have just installed XP on Vista".Did you use "Virtualbox" app or others?

Do not forgot to install the latest chipset driver and reboot the PC before installing the other drivers.
This is truth especially to the brand name PCs.
Chipset driver can help you get a more stable system.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

I did it thanks to this tutorial, I burnt a new XP CD with SATA drivers included and all works fine but when I was trying to install graphics ones I get that error. I downloaded latest chipset drivers from Intel page but nothing, only worked with modified version of Nvidia drivers.

    Kisses.

I think I understand your problem (even though you solved it).
I think you tried to install intel graphics driver when you needed nvidia drivers.

First off - big up to mujjuman, hackez and Rob Viands. You lot have saved me days of grief and must have saved all of us here years in total. I now have a dv9667ea that works properly for the first time ever (though I was too chicken to wipe Vista totally so I kept that partition and dual-boot).

My last problem (that I know about...) is getting audio out of the HDMI output. I tried your driver, bizzare_urban, but I still didn't get the option of switching to the digital out anywhere. I ran an automatic update as well and that didn't seem to change anything. Is the option buried somewhere wierd in the horrible Realtek HD Audio Manager, or is it just not working in my case? Any bright ideas?

Thanks mujjuman, I got XP on this dv9535nr finally. Been working on it for awhile now untill I found your post. Took a little while to figure out the graphics driver was the one in the 7zip but I got it. Thanks, dual booting Windows 7 and XP now. After installing both my laptop was only booting XP so I put in the Windows 7 install disk and restored that partition and now it's recognizing both every boot. Thanks man.

Thank you for your answer but for the moment I just want to ve this dv6-1030em (sorry for the mistake in my previous message). Why this machine : because it's intel based, has the proper graphic card and it's rather cheap. This last point is mandatory as these machines will used during shows, and you can never be sure whate ever protection you use that they not be stolen. So...And the dedicated sofware we are using (medical) only works on . It will be moved on windows 7 in due time

So I got the DV6599 special edition (the white one) I dont really feel like reading 133 pages of posts so I just ask here, sorry about that.

Anyway is the driverpack from the first post the most updated one or should I find drivers elsewhere?

Also I wonder if there's any fix for the mic issues I regularly use skype and I need the mic if its impossible to fix I cant do the downgrade :(

The drivers from the driverpack are not the most recent drivers, but they are the ones that are the most compatible. the reason for this is because an updated driver may not necessarily be better than the old one, unless it fixes a specific issue a user is having. sometimes, updated drivers can cause new problems if the user was having no issues to begin with.

i would recommend you to start with the drivers in the driverpack, and if everything works out, just leave the drivers alone. if you are finding issues, then you will have to update them on your own.... making sure that the updated drivers will solve that problem for you. otherwise, those updated drivers wont do anything, and potentially cause new problems. (true story).

that's good to hear. my mic still doesnt work, lol. i dont use it anyway, but when i tested it out it doesnt work. i have the dv9500 with realtek.

Ok, just an update... well not really.

Just wanted to say, I've installed XP Pro on my dv9500t again, and used all the drivers and followed the steps exactly. No problems, everything went smoothly and working properly (have not tested mic yet, ofcourse the quickplay direct doesnt work, but I expect those to not work). My mic didnt work in Vista either. This is the same dv9500t I used to make the guide.

There is a noticeable different between XP and Vista... XP just seems much faster. Not sure if its just in my head or not, but everything seems much faster. There are some things that I miss from Vista... mainly the preview on the taskbar when I hover the mouse and the sidebar. I liked the calendar and one of a few of the gadgets I installed.

Another thing I noticed after using Vista for about a year and going back to XP is that the battery life is slightly less. I have the full size 17inch screen with the nVidia graphics card, so that might be a reason why... another reason could be because Vista has much better battery saving power schemes. Maybe I can play around with the settings in XP's power schemes to get more battery life, at the expense of performance though. It doesnt matter too much to me, since my laptop stays plugged in most of the time.

I noticed the laptop runs much hotter, and also the fast is constantly on... no biggie, just need to make sure there is enough ventilation. This is confusing for me though, the laptop is constantly hot in XP, and the fast in on blast.... but the CPU usage is MUCH lower..... like 3-2% on idle, while it used to idle at around 5-6% in Vista. The only time it got this hot in Vista was if I played a game or something. This is annoying and I will have to address this.

Besides those problems (may be kinda major with the heat issues), the installation ran smoothly without trouble.

Oh yeah I also downloaded SP3... I didnt slipstream it but I downloaded the "full network install" 300MB version and installed it. Computer works great, and is noticeably faster than SP2.

Just my review and update. It's a great way for me to test to see if my guide works too, lol.

Oh, right now I noticed that XP SP3 doesnt have a Prefetch folder!
I downloaded the latest chipset... seems to have quieted down a bit... It helps if you change the power scheme to "max battery" when you unplug your laptop, and then turn it back up to "always on" when you plug it in.

I guess I just have to live with it.

Hello mujjuman and all others who have put this together!

    Thank YOU!

I was about to use this computer as target practice with Vista still running on it. Computer crashed, back up bought a couple years ago, never opened, didn't work, hp wanted $50 plus cost of vista cd's to replace....

Had copy of xp from old computer-- found this site--- SO MUCH BETTER!

One question though-- Read a lot of pages and eyes hurt-- has anyone resolved the intregrated microphone volume problem?

With vista there were three levels of "microphone boost" in the real tek audio manager-- increasing the boost made the microphone work fine...

But now with XP there is only one level of boost (a check mark) and I cannot here a thing.... Please if anyone can knows how to fix this--- I rely on skype for communication via satelite in Alaska while working in the bush as fly fishing guide....

everything else so far as i can tell is GREAT... I have version": "realtek HD audio - WDM_R183.zip"

    THANK YOU!

    Hello all,

First of all..Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Mujjuman and others for the work they have done..This really is like a blow to the face for HP and Microsoft who I guess were planning to market VISTA in there own way..anyways...here's my story..

I also have a thread in the hardware section since I was not sure what exactly the problem is...

After about 5 days of work and formatting and reformatting I am here. Any help would be appreciated. I will try to explain my story in short. Details of my system

    HP dv6500t
    Core 2 duo t7500 2.2 GHz
    2 GB ram
    all the standard features.

I was running on a 80 gig Western Digital wd800BEVS that came with the laptop..
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=314

After Vista crashed and I used chkdsk it showed me some bad sectors...I still managed to install XP on the recovery partition that HP has..(It would stall the install of XP when I tried installing on the main partition) this was done by slipping the sata drivers in the installation cd..But all in vain...it crashed twice and the HDD was unusable after that.

anyways.....I got a new HDD from seagate...(250 Gig means more space for downloads ha ha...) see link below...

    http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...a3f9110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&reqPage=Model

I installed a clean copy of XP...it works perfectly when it starts and all...problem is sometimes it does not boot..when I press the power button the hp screen with all the function buttons comes up and then everything goes blank...nothing happens...fan does start spinning high though...but then if I go ahead and shutdown and restart using the power button it comes right up and starts like nothing happened...no error messages...nothing...I have all the latest drivers installed from this forum (thanks a lot)...this did not seem to work either...

If anyone has a solution or advice it would be greatly appreciated. I am kindda in a rush and towards my graduation and all this is holding me back...Once again..when the laptop does start it works like a perfect machine...no problems..it is just that it does not boot sometimes..there are NO blue screens or nothing of that sort...

Is the problem with new HDD (compatibilty issue) or do I have to do something differently...I did read about the (3 GB/s and 1.5 GB/s issue in another thread)...Also I can try a fresh install but I would like to avoid that...If anyone of you have had this problem and know a solution please please let me know..I am frustrated with this....

    thanks in advance

Thank you for the kind words! I really am touched...

Unfortunately, I dont know why your computer is behaving the way it is... and I can understand your frustration.
Maybe someone can troubleshoot by installing a working harddrive and see if it does the same thing... are in New York State by any chance? Within 1.5 hours of Albany, NY? Or Poughkeepsie.......

unfortunately not...I am in the truck country of SOUTH CAROLINA....I am a grad student at Clemson..I appreciate the offer though...right now...i am thinking of doing a clean install again...let me see what happens..I have gotten a reply about a jumper solution when I posted this in the hardware section...will see if I have a jumper...otherwise I guess I am doing my grad thesis on a computer which reboots 2 out of every three times...

thanks again for the help...if you come across this issue in any other forums please let me know....

I'd love to help you, but the HDX has a completely different hardware set so these drivers will not help you... sorry..

Only thing I can tell you is, you have to find the SATA driver for your laptop and slipstream it onto a copy of Windows XP CD on your computer, and then burn it. Reboot, install, and then to find the drivers, you are on your own.

I doubt it will even run properly with XP.

I know it's 16 VS 18, but try my XP on HDX18 page (in signature), it should have everything you need (according to others). If not let me know.

Cyprus. I'm not very sure but that's what Everest Ultimate Edition Tool showed. Do you now something else about that model?
