Did you read the part of there being no connector soldered onto the motherboard where it is on other motherboards? That's kind of important... More important and more difficult than just getting a keyboard to fit.

Hmm, yeah I guess we'll have to wait for them to release a version with a backlit keyboard... You'd think they will soon.
-
I don't think so because if they did add the back lighting then there would be no distinct difference between the pavilion series and the envy series...
-
Not true at all (I say this as a biased owner of the Envy 17). The Envy 17 has a subwoofer, is made of metal not plastic, better gfx card, etc.
-
-
EDIT: Nvm. it was a 3000 model. -
all you've got on me is metal but mine looks like metal and ive got 500$ ;P -
For hard core gamers, it makes a diff, but the 6770m is a very strong and capable card. -
-
Envy 17 3D: 1950 (using AMD Catalyst 11.6)
Pavillion dv7t QE: 1520 (Using AMD Catalyst 11.6)
AND...the Pavillion does 1600 x 900 vs the Envy 17 3D doing 1920 x 1080.
I have both machines (Pavillion is my son's and he now has it. Ran all the tests)...Both machines have the i7 2630, Envy has 8 GB of 1333 SDRAM vs Pavillion having 6 GB of 1333 SDRAM. Also...Pavillion has HM65 Chipset, where Envy has HM67.. Both machines should do nicely with gaming and apps. HD6850 in the Envy is clocked at 575 with 800 Pipelines. HD6770 is clocked at 700 with 480 pipelines. -
but truthfully, what game on ultra/high at 1080p actually has visuals worth the extra investment considering laptop gfx cards are still light years behind desktop gfx cards? save perhaps the witcher 2 or metro 2033, which might run those games at 10 framerate instead of 7 at those settings -
to be able to play games when they are out of town, which is fairly often. I have the DV7-6000, and am VERY happy with it. It was simply a better deal compared to the Envy, but I wish I had an Envy, as it is a more hardcore gaming laptop that will likely remain useful another year over the 6000. I will be simply rolling that savings into an upgrade a year sooner, is all.
I gave my slower gaming tower (C2Q 2.3ghz) to my best friend so he can play games with me, and get rid of something my GF hates looking at. -

no one has made the attempt to order the cable and a new screen? im just curious because i want to pull the trigger on upgrading my dv6 screen but really have no prior experience doing it.
-
-
The first is obviously where the connector is attached in order to anchor it firmly- that one is no problem. The other is also close to that connector. There is some adhesive on the rear face of the cable itself which sticks it to the back of the panel just below the connector. It's a devil to peel the cable away from the panel and I was sweating a bit thinking that I may be damaging the cable. I was just firm but slow and it eventually peeled off. I covered over that sticky patch when refitting just in case I have to change it again. -
On dv6 quad edition,Can i replace ssd with dvd?

Is there a sticker or something so that hp would know if you took the computer apart? I'm thinking about taking off the top cover to look at something but I don't want to void the warranty. And by top cover I mean taking off the keyboard and cables to get to the actual top metal cover.
-
Didn't see anything when I reseated my keyboard. If you can't see anything after unscrewing parts of the chassis, then I doubt there's going to be any stickers.
After all, how would HP check if the only way to see the sticker is to take apart the laptop (thus undoing the sticker anyway). -
I've really fallen behind in this thread. What options do we have besides the Intel 1000 card?
-
-
Anyone knows if the DV6T-4000 is compatible with a backlit keyboard?
Found one on ebay that fits but im not sure if the MB has a connector for the backlight...
Thanks! -

Well, i have mine dv6 a few months ago, have been thinking to repaste the laptop, but have a hard time to get those three audio connectors out of the plastic base, could someone who have done a repaste gives a clue or better, video?? I hope that there will be a full video disassembly that will help a lot of users....

Well, looks like in order to clean the vents, i'll have to send the laptop back to service centre... -
Good Luck -
Ok, I have the money now to replace the 768p screen with the 1080p one, but I am wondering if it's worth it. My other option is to just get an external monitor. I would get the Dell u2211h, which is a cheap IPS monitor. The IPS means much better color and viewing angles, if you didn't know already. So, any thoughts as to what I should do? I don't use the laptop 'on the go' too very much, but I do sometimes.
-
So for me it would be better if you install 1080p into dv6
-
-
But seriously, my only worry is that right now, I don't have any problems with the 768p screen. If I get a high quality monitor, will I still be able to use the built in screen without noticing the quality difference too much?

Alright, after thinking about it for several hours, I am considering doing the internal upgrade just for the heck of it. I found a seller on Ebay for the AUO b156hw01 v4, not v7, but he says it is the exact panel, not compatible. The v4 is supposedly is in the Dell l502x, which people say is one of the best 15.6" screens ever. Does anyone know the differences between this and the v7? Also, here is a link to the Ebay page, the seller says to make sure the connector is on the right side, do they do right and left versions? If so, is this the right one for the dv6?
-
Actually the Dell XPS 15 L502X FHD is the B156HW01 v7, not the v4.

before you guys all jump into trying to upgrade to a 1080p screen on your dv6t-4000 or older....was going to do a complete post but I might as well fill some of you guys in right now. I have a dv6t-3000 CTO lappy WITH the touchscreen option. I recently cracked the touch portion of the screen/bezel/touch panel assembly. The actual LED screen is glued onto the outer bezel which contains the touch panel. Which btw is a piece of clear plastic with the touch capacitance layer on it. Anyways, I have seperated the led screen and removed the touch panel in order to save the bezel.
Since my unfortunate accident with the screen, i have decided to try to upgrade the screen to 1080p. I have the new dv6t-6XXXX series led cable and a 1080p panel. First, you do need a dual channel lvds cable. Second, the motherboard connector on the led cable for dv6t-6xxx series is the same but the pin-outs ARE NOT the same. If you go and try to use this cable in your d6vt-4000 or older lappy, you will screw up the led screen.
I have started mapping the pinouts on both ends of the cable, but stop doing that becuase I realize that a dv7t-4000 cable may work as the screens resolution is 1600x900 and therefore should be dual-channel. But we will see...
btw, i have tried out the 1080p screen with the original cable, the 1080p resolution works but the brightness/contrast/colors are not right....which is do to the fact that the cable is only single-channel.
This entire mod is more of a hobby for me as I have an envy 14 as my secondary lappy. But I wont be doing much on it until i recieve a dv7t-4000 display cable in the mail...and until i get some work related trips out of the way in teh next few weeks.
That's it for now.Attached Files:

my fault....didn't realize this thread states 2011 lapptops and AutoArc, based on your sig, I didnt realize you have the latest dv6t either. You will be fine in terms of upgrading to a 1080p screen as long as you have the FHD display cable as seen in the pic attach to my 1st reply....
either way...hope this informative for anyone trying screen upgrades. -
). So, the dual channel cable should work with my current setup, even without the 1080p screen? I think I will order that first, and try it, if it works, I'll order the 1080p screen. If it doesn't, chances are the 1080p wouldn't work either. I am confident, however, that the dual channel cable will work with only one channel used. All it has is extra wires, right? My main concern is that the motherboard is different, although I don't see why HP would make them different.
EDIT: By the way, how much of the warranty will I void by doing this? -
Ok, I am going to order the cable this afternoon. I have one more question though, the manual says that all of these components need to be removed before the display:
● Optical drive
● Hard drive
● WLAN module
● Keyboard
● Top cover
● System board
Do I really need to remove the motherboard? the connector is on the top, right? By the way, does anyone want me to take specific pictures while I am in the heart of my laptop? -
Alright, I bit the proverbial bullet and ordered the display cable. It should arrive later this week. I'll keep you posted.
-
Just got my dv6tqe with the 1080p screen. I notice no blue tint, and the screen has a matte finish.
Not what I was expecting, but a pleasant surprise. -

What do you think of this screen/seller? it is the only other b156hw01 on ebay that says it's not a substitute. It is also almost $50 cheaper than the one from screenintaipei. I am only 15, so my income is rather limited. What do you all advise?
EDIT: forgot to put in the link. -
Well, I got a package from HP today, but there was a slight problem. In the box was a replacement top cover for a 13" laptop. However, the paper in the box says "HPL-656805-001 SPS-LCD CABLE KIT ALU FHD". So, I am calling HP. The order status page still says 'order being processed'.
EDIT: Just got off the phone, and the guy gave me a new order number and sent a return shipping label. He said the cable should arrive tomorrow.
P.S. Why do companies put people with indian accents on the help line for the 'U.S. and Canada'? -
