OK guys, I figured out how to add the FHD display cable to the cart. (I am an idiot and didn't check the box before pressing 'add to cart' in my last post) HOWEVER, it still says
'The following part(s) you entered were not found or not orderable:
    656805-001 (Part Not Orderable)'
I don't know if it will become available any time soon, but I will keep checking.

The link I used to find the part is here.

Maybe you can call them and see what they say, but it would be crazy expensive buying from HP.

So still a no go for backlit keyboard on the DV6Tqe-6XXX series laptop?

Pretty sure everyone has given up. No connector on the motherboard. Too many parts to try to source (appropriate connector, keyboard, maybe additional capacitors to regulate the power), too much work that needs to be done (full teardown of the laptop, identify connection points, solder connector/capacitors/resisters, modify keyboard so that clips fit within dv6 frame, find/modify/hack a driver to control it). And even after all that it's just a maybe that it might work.

Not nearly as elegant, but you can always buy a flexible USB light if you really need to see in the dark. Costs like $5-10. :(

I am wondering and I cannot quite tell from reading some of the previous posts; is it possible to drop a 1080p screen into the dv6tqe-6000 series?

I mean if resources were available, it seems as if the best way to do it would be to just buy the complete upper lid assembly (screen, bezel, antenna, webcam, all of it...) for the 6100 series with the 1080p screen and just do a swap. This possible?

That should be possible with the right screen, cable (probably can use the same one?), and bezel (if it needed to be changed).

    I'll clear up some confusion,
(Theoretically) the only thing we need the the screen (B156HW01~V.7) and the display cable. The screen can be found at many online stores, but the cable is HP proprietary. The only way to get the cable is to buy it from HP or wait till third parties start making it.
As far as the bezel goes, I can see any reason to replace it. That is unless you destroy it while removing it.

Remember, this is all speculative, but it Should work.

Just read through this whole thread today. I purchased the DV6tqe about two weeks ago and was also really bummed that their was no option for a backlit keyboard. Really sucks that the ENVY one doesn't fit but thanks for trying!

What about transferring the actualy white sheet that the leds are attached to over to the stock keyboard? I mean, you would still have to replace all the keys and figure out a way to power it. Has anyone determind if it is possible to just use the power from the light around the touchpad? Would it draw too much current to somehow wire both the keyboard leds and the touchpad leds together? I know leds dont draw that much current but...who knows.

In regards to a few people asking about replacing the dvd drive with a harddrive, the answer is: Yes. I bought a hard drive caddy from Newmodeus. It is a hard drive caddy that is a direct replica of the dvd drive. You just pop the harddrive into the caddy, remove the dvd drive, slide the caddy in and volia! Done. :)

What is really awesome too is that you can transfer the faceplate over from the dvd drive to the caddy so it looks completely stock. I added a 64gb kingston ssd as the main OS drive and placed the 640gb 7200rpm drive that was included with my computer in the caddy. An ssd is the BEST upgrade I have ever done. If anyone is interested in pics let me know. i can upload some when I get off work.

LINK to the dv6t hd caddy:
    2nd Drive Caddy - HP dv5, dv6, dv6t, dv6z (add 2nd HDD or SSD) [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-BU] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

Build quality is excellent and fits just like OEM. Now I just need this backlit keyboard!!!! :D

Yea, didn't meant to cause confusion. AFAWK you don't need to buy a new bezel, I was just sayin' that if you have an issue and wreck the bezel it can be replaced.

One thing I was wondering is whether the motherboard display connector is the same on the dv7 as the dv6. If so, we could just order the cable for the dv7, and install a new display. So anyone who happens to have their laptop apart, please remove the display cable and take a picture of the connector on the MB for comparison.

We're working on it. So far, the best option I can see is to order the display cable spare part for the 1080p version of the dv6t, Order the AUO B156HW01V.7 1080p display and install it yourself. If you really need it soon, the display cable from the dv7t might work. It has enough bandwidth, so it should work if the motherboard connector is the same. I posted the link to the as-yet unavailable dv6t 1080p cable in post #452 (HP partsurfer).

EDIT: By the way, here's the cable for the dv7t on partsurfer.

If anyone is still looking to upgrade the wireless with one that supports 5.0 GHz band there is a part for the HP Probook/Elitebook.

    HP Part # 631954-001

It's supposed to be an Intel Advanced-N 6205, a guy I called through the parts store stated that it was definitely compatible with the Dv6-6XXX series. Total cost through HP Parts Store was $52.52 (ouch) will post it it works.

I was looking through the HP parts website too and found that same part. The Intel 6205 seems to be the same wifi capabilities as a 6230 but lacks the bluetooth chip. I've already bought two wifi cards that were incompatible (an intel 6230 from provantage and an incorrectly labeled ralink from HP). I am eagerly waiting to hear if that card works in your dv6-6xxx. If it does work please post back in this modding thread. Thank you.

    Hi ppl,
I have an option on getting the dual channal LVDS cable for the screen upgrade, but the repair shop that I am trying to order the part needs a S/N number of the laptop that has the dual channal cable in it.
So my question... Can someone post his S/N number of a dv6t or dv7t laptop that has aither the 900p or the 1080p screen and is not a special build order?
    tnx in advance.

I asked this question already, but maybe here I'll get more answers.

Can the DV7 (710p) screen be upgraded with the FHD screen from the ENVY 17?

Got the part, and it is in fact an Intel Advanced-N 6205. Bad news is it doesn't work. 702 Wireless not supported error using a DV6T-61XX with F.13 and F.14 bios.

Thanks HP for lying to us yet again. The part exists yet their crappy whitelist doesn't even allow their own parts. Add me to the list of idiots that tried to get a part from them. I too bought a 6230 from Provantage and almost bought that mislabeled Ralink. Only reason I didn't get the Ralink was I noticed the description on Partsurfer said 1x2 and we're looking for a 2x2 card...

Thank you for reporting back. This is a real bummer. Its hard for me to believe that HP doesn't have a single 2x2 or 3x3 dual band wifi card for what are by all standard very high end notebook computer. I simply don't know what they are thinking.

I spoke with a representative on online chat about wireless for the dv6t-6100. I provided HP Part # 631954-001, said I was told it was the Centrino 6205, and he/she looked into it. After a couple minutes, I got back that I was looking for Part # 631956-001, the Centrino 6230.

Did anyone who tried the Centrino 6230 order their part from HP Parts Store, or from somewhere else? If no one's tried ordering from HP Parts Store yet, I'm going to have to bite. (Assuming, of course, that I managed to fix my system's BSoD's within a week first.)

I ordered the 631956-001 from the HP parts store hoping to get an Intel 6230 and received some Ralink piece of s***, I read a post from another person months before that had the same experience. I was hoping HP got their act together and took the plunge anyway.

Do you know if a Intel 6300 purchased from HP would boot up in a dv6-6000? I know there are only 2 antenna leads but 2x2 is still better than 1x2.

No clue, if the normal 6300 doesn't work. Most likely the HP stock of 6300 won't work either.

Also, you can add additional antennas, there's no harm doing that either.

Why is that weird? There aren't a lot of laptops that I've seen that are both slim AND extremely modular. Hard to have it both ways. The LCDs on laptops has never been intended to be user serviceable like installing RAM.

Guys, you have no idea. I bought this laptop because it would work with the Intel 6230. You are right, the part number they have for the 6230 is some RALink adapter, I have called HP 7 or 8 times and had 3 or 4 online chats with many different people over this issue. I have been dealing with them since day 1 of my getting the laptop as I had already purchased a 6230 and had it ready to install. It is a LOOONNNNGGGG story, but I just talked to a Case Manager named Clayton last week and had a chat with him today, his final answer was "you should've returned it within the 21 day" period and that he was the highest on the ladder I could go. So basically we sold you a laptop with false documentation, but tough crap. So even though their documentation states it will work, it will not. I even got the HP Parts store to admit they don't even sell the 6230 period!!! Yet I was told that was my opinion by Clayton. I think that it is printed in their manual makes it a FACT, not opinion. I'm still not done with this, HP has wronged me in this as I have stated time and time again with them since this started, I would not have bought this laptop had I known the documentation was false. And I would've returned it right away, had their tech support not wanted to try and resolve the issue and then after the return period is over, I get "you should've returned in the 21 day period". I cannot imagine giving "customer service" like this. Amazing.

Someone will eventually crack HP's new BIOS. (Someone apparently already has but he hasn't been online in several days.) HP has most definitely lost business from many loyal (or not so loyal) customers permanently due to this mess.

And to think they sell the Centrino 6200 for $58. (part # 572509-001)

I plan to keep this $920 post-tax laptop if I can... but if I still have problems with HDMI->TV or gaming->BSoD or anything else, then I'll have to bite on a competing product for $1300+ comparably spec'd =\

P.S.: Just to check... really did no one try installing HP's Centrino 6200 in their dv6/7-6100? I don't want to disassemble my Envy 14 (not technically mine anymore...) to test it if someone's already failed.

Part of my testing and troubleshooting was purchasing the Centrino 6200 from HP Small Business (as the consumer division does not sell it). It does not work. You get the same diagnostic message that the adapter is unsupported. I'm currently waiting on an RMA from HP to send it back.

Is there any way to trick the laptop into thinking it's a supported card? I mean make it think it's the 1030 or something. Is it possible to modify the ID the card sends to the laptop? It's probably not possible, but just a suggestion.

it is truly ridiculous. HP sells a beautiful laptop with a quad core processor, a blu ray player, an hdmi output, and yet, for some reason the hdmi output will not deliver 5.1 sound, only 2.0. I called hp and they told me this couldn't be fixed. And on top of that, it only allows 2.4 wifi, meaning that streaming 1080p video is very difficult if not impossible. Plus all this openCL stuff i've read about. pretty disappointing design coming from hp. This is my first high end hp product and im not impressed. My dv6quad is a media laptop in sheep's clothing.

Also, your model says it has WiDi support, but it's on the older standard. So, you cannot directly stream protected content on WiDi like bluray. It is due to the outdated Intel driver you have, and cannot be updated like you can do with AMD.

Sucess! The display cable for the Full hd version of the dv6t is now orderable! it would be about $40 with shipping, and I don't have that money to spend right now, but if anyone else wants to, here's the link to the part. What I would reccomend is to order the cable and see if it works with the 768p screen, if it does, chances are it will work with the B156HW01 v.7.

Hey guys. Just thinking about purchasing a dv6tqe, and had a few questions.
    Howis the weight?
    Build quality?
Any success with a good 95% gamut display? How much is this?
Does the optical bay fit a 12.5mm?

feels dense, but not overly heavy.

Build quality is decent, but not exceptional. A little keyboard flex on mine, but that apparently can be fixed to some degree ( this thread).

My last 4 posts or so have been about the possible screen upgrade. As it stands now, you should be able to order the 1080p display cable ( here), and order the AUO B156HW01 v.7 (or similar). replace 720p cable and screen with new, and you should be good. The reason I mention the AUO B156HW01 v.7 is that someone tried it with a 1080p model that already had the 1080p cable, and it worked fine. The only thing un-tested is the upgrade of cables.

I really don't know if the optical drive will fit a 12.5mm, but I would hazard a guess that it would.

AUO is not producing B156HW01 v.7 anymore, do you know any similar screen that is compatible with B156HW01 v.7?

It isn't produced anymore, but you could still find it some places. Daily-mart seems to have some. They have a good reputation on ebay at least. Here's the link.
No, I don't know of a compatible LCD. As far as I know, most 1080p screens have the same connector, if that's what your asking. You just have to find one with a 95% color gamut and that will fit dimensionally.
