Definitely agreed. We all need to thank him.
Anyway, Stefan, if you could run some games on it (if you have some), and let us know the frame rates you get, that would be great.
It would be even better if you ran the same games that HP did for their article, on the same settings, so we could compare them.![]()

Now we need someone with a 15 to post some tests

Thanks for all your help here.
Everyone wants some thing from you like right now.
I am sure many of us would rather have you get a good nights sleep and hopefully give us some more info tommorrow.
Have a good night and sleep well. -
I was about to say the same thing. I just looked and it's like 2 in the morning now for you.
Thanks again for posting all this for our info strapped minds! We truly appreciate it.
Just don't sleep too long...

Just for you junkies out there. Here is another fix for you to get by.
Mark Bunting Reviews The HP Envy 15 With Beats Audio - SkyTV - YouTube -
Review? More like infomercial.
-
Seemed more like an ad then a review...
-
Maybe so, but still, helpful to see a bit more of the laptop - the screen looks amazing.

We have a winner!

I hope the 17 3D has a awesome 1080P screen too!
Please ship tomorrow 17 3D... -
Here is an interesting article, Dell Offers a Better Online Buying Experience for Laptops than HP and Here’s Why… Nothing we don't already know. I'm just baffled how HP can sell something without giving the important details to what we are getting.
How could a major corporation do business like this, pathetic on their part.
And yes I know, nobody forced me to purchase the Envy Laptop, I took a chance.
-
I agree, please ship tomorrow 17 3D.
If it does, we may have it either by Thursday or Friday. I imagine with Fedex delivering from China, they will send each package to the closest major metropolitatian city by plane and from there, it will make it's way to you (If it gets to Chicago Fedex Store, I will have it the next day, thus the possibility of a Thursday delivery if it is shipped tomorrow) -
i have a massive urge to drown him.
-
I have a strong feeling that the 17 and 17 3D models will be shipping tomorrow morning. Either that or on Wednesday. I can't wait to get this laptop!
-
The Envy 15 which shipped today has a delivery date of Thursday. So I would assume Friday for the Envy 17 if shipped tomorrow.
-
Hey! I said a fix not the ultimate high.
-
Has anyone have one shipping that ordered on 12-12-11?
-
I hope to god that happens. Best christmas ever!
Then again, I chose the 5-7 business day option.. will all of them be the 2 - 3 day shipping wait time I've seen other people quoting? Or did they all just choose the 2 - 3 day when they bought it? -
I chose 5-7 day also, but my confirmation shows 2-3 day delivery. You're in good shape
-
So we still dont know if the xt is a lie? I'm trying to figure out if it's much better than the 540m. Notebook check puts that around 100 and the 6770 at like 80. My question is actual gaming performance going to be a world of a difference or just a few fps here and there... Great unboxing it looks great but small little quality control issues like that make me nervous about hp, seriously though not a deciding factor but a concern. Thanks to Stefan and all for the only decent info on this machine.
-
It's just too early to tell at this point. We'll find out for sure within a few days.
-
The people thinking that the XT is false branding think so because the program GPU-Z shows that it has the same specs as the non-XT card. This is not horrible though, as we already know the regular 7690M is a rebadge/update of the 6770M, and out does it performance-wise by 15%.
However, people are curious as to why HP shows that the 7690M XT has 50% better results than the regular 7690M, while we see it retains the same specs as read by GPU-Z for both cards.
There are two main theories going around. Either:
- HP is lying and using the same GPU in both - while simply rebranding the 17/17 3D GPU as "XT".
OR - GPU-Z is not yet capable to read the information of the cards properly without an update. (Which has not been released yet.)
We still won't know what's going on until we get proper readings from GPU-Z, and someone here gets an ENVY 15 for themselves. - HP is lying and using the same GPU in both - while simply rebranding the 17/17 3D GPU as "XT".
-
how about we just give it a few days (22nd?!) and go from there.
-
So close yet so far...
-
That... was the worst thing I have ever watched in my life. I want to find that guy and beat the sh*t out of him ruthlessly.
Also if you notice the tags, "delta airlines" and "SkyTV", that's an ad Delta must play on the in flight screens. What an impartial "review". -
Ha, yea, he could easily be mistaken for a product promoter. Really seems like a video straight from hp... just worse.
-
I don't think any of us took it seriously as a review. Don't worry.
-
Jeez... people want to drown and beat this guy ruthlessly?
You guys are crazy! LOL -
I think we're all just suffering from 'Iwantmylaptopnowitis'
-
Yep, pretty much. I think it's an epidemic.
-
I figure if I do not hear anything tomorrow I will not get delivery until after Christmas.
franklyshankly:
I need some positive reinforcement here
What do ya got? -
Just watch that SkyTV thing on repeat for like 12 hours. You'll go so crazy you won't even care anymore.
-
So that was what got you to this state. You sure are a pushover.
On the flip side I sure hope some of you get that 17" wish tomorrow. -
Question for everyone, has it been confirmed by HP that the 15 is going to have a better (rebadged) version of the 6770 or was this just an assumption based on what the previous model had?
-
All we know is that the 15 has a 7690m and the 17 has a 7690m XT.
Thanks to Stefan's info, we know that the 7690m XT is a rebadged and slightly faster 6770m (unless somehow GPU-z reporting is wrong, but I doubt that, as most of the info is read by the software directly off the firmware of the card, so whatever the manufacturer puts on there is usually what it says).
7690m is either the same thing or slower. -
So if I decide this laptop is not for me because of the GPU (everything else is perfect) what is my best alternative?
I have looked at every major brand and no real winners. -
+1
now THATS more like it...youre getting your sense of humor back.
-
Design wise nothing is as pretty (mbp clone-like), but I've heard good things about the high end asus and samsungs.
-
Depends what you looking to use your laptop for. I already have a Alienware M17x R3 w/ a 6990M for gaming... but it's not really ideal to take to work, or classes. So that is why I bought the new Envy 15.
To be honest, the gpu wasn't a concern of mine from my initial interest. I just want a decent one that can play the occasional game, and a well built laptop that has good battery life. -
If you were looking at the 17in at all the best alternative is the Dell Precision with ati m8900 (same as consumer 6970 which is >> 6770/7690).
It will be $600 more with the 1920x1080 (non-ips). Design is understated business.
Or the HP 8760w but that will be more expensive if try to get close to the m8900 performance levels since you would have to choose a much more expensive nvidia card. -
Already have a Mac Book Pro. I have had Apple computers since I was a baby (I'm 24 now). My first computer was an Apple 2 and never had a PC. I use PC at work all the time and I decided to make the switch because the new MBP I wanted cost $3,200. Apple has always taken care of me, even fully replacing a MBP 8 months after my warranty was up, but I am done paying 100% more for the same parts. OS X isn't worth that much to me, not even close.
This laptop was going to be my switch and it was perfect, now with this GPU crap I still want it but almost want to wait for the refresh of it with the new GPUs. My MBP has a dead battery and it's old but still works. I'm conflicted. -
Few posts before, a man posted gpu-z picture of 7690 and all these tech stuff were lower then on 6770. How 7690 could be better then 6770?
-
And is there any good conformation that all 15 - 17 - 17 3D will have ips screen?
-
They weren't really lower, they were basically the same. It is, after all, the same chip at the core.
-
The MBP has the 6770. Are the benchmarks on that even any better?
-
It really all depends what ends up in the Envy 15. If its the same as the 17, then they're both a bit faster than the 6770m in the macbooks.
The MBP version of the 6770m runs at 675 MHz, while the 6770m in other notebooks, as well as the 7690m XT posted by Stefan earlier, run at 725. It's the same 480 SP Whistler core at slightly higher clocks.
But there is still a possibility that the Envy 15 ships with something slower than that, to account for the performance difference in the earlier HP benchmarks. If that's the case, then the Envy 15 might be significantly slower than the MBP. If you're after the 17 anyway then it's not really an issue. -
The benchmarks on that are not any better than on the ENVY 15 or 17. the opposite is actually true.
To clear up what franklyshankly has stated:
- The 7690M is a rebadged version of the 6770M, with improved performance due to a mature process.
- The 7690M XT is built on the same base as the regular 7690M, but from what we know, is a 50% improvement on the regular 7690M, putting it just past the 6850M of the past ENVY 17.
I think the main complaint is focusing around the fact that these are not massive improvements, and that the base card is a re-badge. However, it will be enough to play Skyrim or similar games on high @ 1080p. Anything around or under that should work fine, just don't go around expecting to be able to play battlefield 3 on anything over mid/high settings at a reduced resolution. -
I personally think laptops sucks for gaming. If gaming is at teh top of the list then you better drop another $1000. At that price you could build a desktop that outperforms in every possible way. Gaming laptops are too expensive, break easily and produce a lot of heat when gaming. I got the 17 3D to replace the desktop which I use a little for gaming but I did not exptect to play the latest and greatest on a laptop. As long as it plays the last two PC games that I still play I will be fine. Judging by the results they will play fine. I am pretty much done with PC games and will stick with the xbox. Cheaper and less hassle.
-
I'm getting the 15. 17 is just way way way to big to lug around. I'm a photographer and always like to bring a laptop with me to make sure I got shots.
About the GPU we could even overclock it a bit higher and the heat should be fine correct?
