I have a gaming desktop, with 570 SLI, overlocked i7, etc. etc.

I work in a professional industry, and need a professional looking laptop for work. I still want it to be capable of light gaming for when I'm not at the house or traveling. There's nothing wrong with expecting decent performance from a premium notebook.

 

Ya that's the thing that gets me, HP is trying to compete with Apple's macbooks with the envy by offering cutting edge tech and does a good job for the most part but falls short in the graphics department in my opinion. When I buy envy I expect the best (or close to it).

 

I'm in the same boat. I prefer xbox gaming anyways, I like the fact that everybody is on the same level computing wise I feel like it makes things fair. I'm going to be using this for games like Diablo 3 when it comes out and using Lightroom to edit HD photos. Other than that I think it should be fine.

 

Technologically impossible. It can not be both based from a rebadged 6770M and faster than the 6850M.

3DMark11 already showed the XT as 10-15% faster than the 6770M, and the GPU-Z clearly backs that up. It just isn't that fast.

 

I see, well maybe I got lost in interpretation. Point is, the XT is quite a bit faster than the 6770M, which is fine for me. We'll be able to do proper comparisons when everyone gets their notebooks.

 

So im going to be ordering this from toronto, canada using my paypal

I am hoping to ship it to a pick up service in buffalo so i may drive there from toronto to pick it up

my paypal currently has a CONFIRMED canadian address

if i were to purchase this with my canadian paypal, do i simply just add an american address to it, or do i HAVE to have a CONFIRMED american address added to it

Just add the american shipping address to your paypal - it will automatically confirm as yours, and you'll be able to use it.

 

oh okay, i didnt know it would automatically just confirm that address right away as soon as i added WITHOUT any verification of some sort

 

I don't get it either, but paypal considers the address "Verified"/Confirmed" when you add it to your account manually. Either way, it worked for me.

You have to do it during checkout. When it takes you to the pay-pal page when you go through checkout, you simply enter a new shipping address - it let me put in a US address when I did it.

Guys, will the displayport on this (is it a mini displayport? I'm new to this) work on an Apple Cinema display?

 

It's a full-size displayport. It should work with any of the Apple displays but I doubt it will work with the newest Thunderbolt one, which is a bummer because I have to respect Apple for doing a decent job with it. 27" IPS with a high quality webcam + speakers is very impressive. However the inability to connect it to PC just makes it as useless as a paper weight. I normally greatly dislike any apple products until this monitor came out...

Show me another IPS 27" - 30" with a webcam and speakers in it (decent at least) and I'd be very happy. Otherwise I might jump the gun and order the Dell 30" u3011 IPS (or starting to consider the HP one as well for faster response time) but I really wish they'd give it some USB 3.0 ports for future proofing it considering its price.

 

confused....the non-thunderbolt display uses a "mini displayport" adapter, which is also what's used on the macbooks

that's what we have for output, right?

i wish other companies made monitors like apple. *sigh*

why can't dell or HP make a sexy looking monitor?

 

Mine ordered 12-11-11 just switched to shipped; no tracking info yet. Yours could ship later today or tomorrow. I checked at 11PM CST and nothing had changed. It is 1:30PM CST now and the change in status happened in the last couple of hours. Keep checking your order status. Have the two-day free shipping so could be here before Christmas. Yes, it is the Envy 15; it seems to be hit and miss on order/shipping dates but so far haven't seen any 17 shipped. Maybe waiting on those high-end graphics cards. Mine wasn't scheduled to ship until the 27th so is about a week early; that is how the Envy 14 shipped also--about a week before expected shipping date. That is good news for the 15 people; curious to see when the 17s begin to ship.

 

It is a little wierd that the HP Envy has a Full size Displayport and the Apple Cinema Displays have miniDisplayport.

Easiest solution is a cable like this one at Monoprice ... just make sure whatever cable you get is Bidirectional so it can work both ways.

Monoprice is the best place for cables if you don't mind the shipping costs. Here's their page for all the displayport cable types for anyone else that wants to see. They have displayport to VGA, DVI, DP, miniDP.

Also adapters for HDMI. The DP should be able to carry audio/video through HDMI converter

Would be nice if cables came in black but oh well, quality is more important to me.

 

Aaaaand my 17 3D has just shipped! Original due date was December 26th.

 

Oh god, mine has just been shipped as well. Estimated ship date was the 29th just a couple of hours ago.

 

I have a canadian based paypal account, with a canadian based billing address, and my HP envy 15 is on it's way from shanghai right now. you don't have to have an american one for using the hp website. sometimes paypal stops you from adding it from their site, but an easy work around is to go through ebay.com and add it from there, then it shows up in your paypal later as a confirmed address, that's what I did a while back

put a buffalo shipping address

wait till the product comes so the status THEN becomes confirmed

then purchase off hp?

Okay, found some very juicy info already. My base product number (for 17 3D) is LY336AV. Here's the link to the Genuine HP Parts and their prices

There's part numbers and prices once you go to check them out. I grabbed a screenshot of relevant parts.



Most interesting to note: Keyboard Bracket actually is around $40 (much better than that $66 price I pulled earlier). 120W Slim Adapter is $50.39, but I imagine this doesn't include the 3-prong wire to the wall. Apparently the HP Wireless Kleernet Audio uses some type of Wireless Audio Card that is $39. The System Board is Indeed HM67 (some sources stated HM 65) however it Clearly states that the Graphics on the System Board is the HD6770M/1G 3D -DSC . I won't assume much of anything until I put it through some real tests and benchmarks.

Also, the Battery listed denotes the symbol "A" for Customer Self Repair column.. which I assume means we can install ourselves (because the Hard Drives and Memory also list "A"). However it is one of the only parts that you can't select to add to cart, so something is fishy about it.

Congrats to Stefan ! And I'm joining the little club as the owner of an HP Envy 17-3000eb since yesterday.

I didn't have much time to play with it so far but I don't regret my choice. The build quality is really high though I still haven't figured out what the material is used for the bottom. It feels a bit more like plastic than my initial impression.

On a quick notice, what striked me first was the keyboard. It is absolutely awesome, very nice feeling, and the backlight is really nice.

I will have more time to play around next week after Christmas and I really hope you guys get your shipments this week!

 

My Envy 17 3D shipped, says estimated to get here Dec 22nd, same day as the Envy 15 that shipped yesterday. I had 5-7 business day shipping option when I checked out

 

Oddly enough I ordered mine on the 7th (both the 15 that I tried to cancel and couldn't and the 17 3D that I want) and neither have shipped.

 

My Envy 17 shipped today with an estimated delivery date of Thursday 12/22. Ordered on Dec 7.

 

Ordered my Envy 15 on the 14th and it shows a delivery date of December 22nd by 10:30AM! 8 day delivery from order would be mighty impressive...

 

I bought two 17's, one with 2 day shipping, one without. They are both scheduled to show up on the same day. HP is getting a phone from me about what's the point of spending $40 on 2 day shipping, if everything ships like that.

I bet they will refund you the $40, they have always been very reasonable when I've called. I think they are upgrading all orders to 2 day shipping that are shipping before Christmas.
