The 7690m XT clocks were identical to the 6770m on the core.
I would imagine that the 7690m will also be identical to the 6750m, with maybe a slight bump in the memory speed, as on the XT.

We're probably neighbours haha
-
Haha, ya I sleep in an igloo too. Hopefully the laptop doesn't overheat too much or it might melt my place!
Jk But ya it gets light about 9ish and sun goes down 4-5, i wouldn't real call my area "polar" tho. You have to go much further north for that. -
Haha small world. I know exactly where you are that's so funny.
-
Hey, I don't know exactly where you live, but if you're into paying a little more for shipping, there's a place that will forward your packages from their office in sumas washington to anywhere in canada you want.
it's called package express, it's right beside the place that I use
http://www.packageexpress.com/
their website looks pretty hokey but all these little shipping proxies are great -
Ugh it hasn't arrived yet. Its late.
-
For those saying it's a rebadged HD 6750M how do you explain this: AMD Radeon HD 7690M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
-
Because those are the identical specs to the 7690m XT.
They're either the same card, or that information is wrong. -
I'm sure the information is wrong, because they have never even gotten their hands on the card. They are talking about the XT in that page, not the regular 7690M. They don't even have a proper page for the XT.
The Singapore branch of HP has confirmed that the 7690M is an improved 6750M, and we have found out that the 7690M XT is an improved 6770M. -
With an asterisk next to improved.
-
Yes yes... we get the idea
-
I would still like to test my hypothesis that the HD7670M might exist in the non full hd envy 15's as suggested by HP's partsurfer. If someone sent me their serial #/product number for a non full hd envy 15 we could settle that for sure.
-
I guess, but we have pretty much seen a 10-15% improvement on both cards compared to what they're based on, so an improvement is safe to be assumed.
-
I don't think anyone here would have even bought the 1360x768 version.
-
It still baffles me how manufacturers still release this resolution on 15" laptops
-
so i was wondering, what do you think of the possibilities of slapping an ivy bridge cpu (in an envy 3XXX series)with maybe a modded bios once they become available or maybe doing a motherboard swap if they are of the same dimensions and port layout?
-
I'm being extremely positive when I say: "Good luck with that."
-
Ivy Bridge is supposed to be compatible with current H60 series motherboards (according to rumors at the moment), the Envy 17 is H67 from everything that I read on here, so it should be possible.
-
You should be able to disassemble and swap cpus. I'm counting on doing the same. I've done three socket M (Yonah to Merom) and two socket P (Merom to Penryn) notebook upgrades. They take a bit of time, but generally are not too difficult.

Looks like mine was delivered. Too bad I am still at work, will not get back until after 8pm pacific time. But then the tests and answers will begin, unless someone else gets there first.
They seem to be delivering many of them today though so I imagine someone else is going to get to theirs alot sooner than I am. -
My Envy 15, so close but so far...
-
Come on, it's in the box! Mine is still somewhere on a plane!
If I'm allowed to be optimistic, I'm thinking that since some 15's are getting delivered today rather than tomorrow like they said they'd be, there's a chance my 17 3D will be delivered tomorrow!
Crossing my fingers
-
Hello all. I am new to this forum and have been feverishly reading for updates on these new laptops.
I ordered an envy 17 and an envy 15 because i wanted to weigh the pros and cons in person before returning one of them to hp. i bought a new samsung 830 256gb ssd and 2x4gb 1.35v 1600mhz ddr3, which will be going into whichever of these bad boys i am going to keep.
I just checked my shipping status. My envy 17 is in Anchorage. If I am lucky, it will get to my place in San Francisco tomorrow.
giggity
-
Haha but that box is 1000's of km's away, all I can see at this point are pictures of it
-
I just got notice my HP Envy 17 3D is in Alaska as well. Based on how I got the Envy 15 today, the 17 3D should arrive tomorrow.
-
Mine's still on a plane from Alaska to the east coast. Must be a long plane ride
-
I just checked, same for mine! Can't wait until get's to my depot in Sumas WA.
Also, funny thing - dem' time-travelling shipments:
Dec 21, 2011 7:55 PM
In transit
SHANGHAI CN
V
Dec 21, 2011 12:27 PM
Arrived at FedEx location
ANCHORAGE, AK
I see, I thought you took the picture of it -
Both of mine are still tagged "In Transit" from Shanghai. That last timestamp is 7:55PM Dec 21.
I've got a bad feeling mine are going to get stuck in Alaska (or maybe make it as far as D/FW) until next week.
ETA: Nine minutes later, after refreshing the screen about every 30 seconds,
it finally says "Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK @ 12:27PM
I guess it just took awhile to get all the containers unloaded and scanned into their system.
!!!!!!
-
Same with mine going to Maryland. Left Anchorage 4:26 PM yesterday, no updates yet.
-
I'm really thinking they (the ENVY 17's) will be delivered tomorrow, who's with me?
-
For those in the Great Plains... pay attention to the weather alerts:
FedEx -
mines arrived at ANCHORAGE, AK at 12:27 pm yay me!
-
you will probably get yours as your on the west coast. east coasters like me likely wont get em til friday. but who knows...
-
Mine left Anchorage today and is in TN. Final destination is DC.
-
Gratz guys!
And you know what, I've never so avidly stared at a fedex page to track a package every step of the way like this. I just need to bury my head in work and Christmas preparations and just ignore the fact that the laptop exists.
Yeah, that will work! -
Same with mine going to Detroit -- 4:26 yesterday. Maybe they put it on a bi-plane? Or the Goodyear Blimp?
-
So I got mine and I love it. I had the same issue with the USB port being dented as well. UGH.
The trackpad is not as good as I wished but I am also coming from a mac book pro. Does anybody have any requests? -
So we're 2/2 on the USB dent issue...?
That's not a good sign...
-
Pics and benchmarks
-
I'll check mine tonight and update you guys
-
pics or didn't happen
jkjk
a walkthrough vid might be nice, i kinda wanna see that backlit keyboard light up as you walk close to it in action.
and some specs on the GPU might be nice. core clock, shader clock/count, etc.
thanks bro! -
I'm most curious about your opinion of the IPS screen. If you can compare with the MBP screen (which I known is a high end TN panel) that would be very interesting.
I think the GPU has been figured out, and I'm not an avid gamer so don't care that much as long as it is decent, but might as well put it to rest for everyone with a GPU-z screencap on the Envy 15.
Bummer about the UPS port, being aluminum I bet it can be gently bent back out with a tiny screwdriver or blade. I have lots of watch repair tools at home if you want to borrow something...
Coming from an XPS Studio 16 (with excellent RGB-LED LCD screen) I'm pretty excited about the trackpad... even though it may fall short of the MBP it will be a huge improvement compared to the tiny thing I'm stuck using on my Dell. -
+1 on your take on the IPS screen. What are vertical viewing angles like? Can you give an approx. angle of view before colors invert (if inverting at all)?
On another note, my 15's status says "In Transit" from Anchorage since 12/20 5:13PM, and STILL says the same thing... I'm a little doubtful that at this rate, the delivery est. of 12/22 10:30am can be met (not complaining though). Any thoughts/encouragements?
-
Mine is here! Thankfully I have no dents or visible problems
-
AutoEntropy
Glad you got yours in. Thats too bad about the dent. You can always return it and get a different one.
Can you give use detail and differances on the trackpad on the envy versus the MBP?
Detail on the GPU
Detail on the display
A picture of the display tilted as far back as it will go.
Detail on everything else in that order.
Detail compared to the MBP + and -
Thanks
My envy 15's are in MEMPHIS and ANCHORAGE right now. -
Let us know!
-
Yes! I have ye ol request!
And please by all means this isn't just for AE, but anybody who has recieved theirs as well! -all- three of mine are still in Alaska.
This request is basicly a repost of the one I asked Stefan about 20 pages back. I don't think he had enough free time to make it happen, but I would be awesomely grateful if any of you guys do!
I made an audio file to kind of test the crossover point for the subwoofer/general speaker output for the new Envys, would you mind giving it a quick play and telling me the following:
Do you hear anything at all?
If you hear something, is it coming out of all of the speakers or only the "subwoofers"?
How loud is it while coming out of the subwoofer?
If it comes out of other speakers, how loud is it then?
If at all possible leave any kind of EQ settings or anything audio control wise flat.
Thank you SOOOOO much if you get time to do this!
Heres the audio file: Envy (2012) Crossover Test
(PS: If by some random miracle chance you have an SPL meter and could measure the output of that clip I would love you eternally) -
Now that units are being received, it might be interesting if someone could make a page like the one we had for the Envy 14. I have no idea how to do it. Build quality was rated and it made for interesting comparisons. See this link to the page.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...hat-quality-condition-your-new-envy-14-a.html -
I'd also like to say that for you professional/hobbyist audio minded fellows I'll be doing a huge battery of tests audio wise once mine show up (looking like Friday)
IE: SNR (weighted however you would like) THD, Dynamic range, maximum SPL, etc.
Also luckily (sort of?) this leg of our tour got cut 4 stops short, so I'll actually be home just in time to grab mine I believe! Yay!! -
My HP ENVY 15 unit arrived this afternoon, a day early. I had a chance to use it for the past hour and wanted to share some thoughts. I actually just bought a Apple MacBook Pro 15 as well. I have a few weeks before the return policy runs up on each so I can decide which one to keep. In terms of price, the ENVY was $1500 with the 33% coupon and the MacBook was $2800 after a Education discount.
Anyways, here are a bunch of observations:
Pretty simple packaging, HP includes a sleeve for the laptop and a thin case for the power supply. I wish there was a LED light at the end of the power cord so it is easier to find and wish the brick was a bit smaller too.
HP defaults Windows 7 to a higher 125% DPI mode. This makes the physical size of text a lot more bearable to read, but images on web pages become blurry. I ended up defaulting back to 100% despite the smaller font sizes.
The ENVY 15 display is definitely a lot sharper than the 1680x1050 resolution of the MacBook Pro. The colors are a lot duller (and a bit warmer) on the HP compared to being more vibrant on the Apple. MacBook Pro screen also gets a tad bit brighter than the ENVY 15.
There is not too much bloat ware, but I always do a clean install anyways. Definitely recommend replacing Norton with Microsoft Security Essentials.
The keyboard back lighting on the ENVY 15 is much cleaner than the MacBook Pro. The former has no light bleeding around keyboard keys while the latter has a significant amount.
After some time using the trackpad, I find the one on the ENVY 15 sub-par compared to the MacBook Pro. I am of course running Windows 7 on each. The Synaptics control panel offers several features such as two-finger scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, two-finger rotate, three-finger flick (back/front webpage), four-finger flick (alt-tab & windows-tab functionality). These all work on the ENVY 15, but are not nearly as responsive as the ease of the MacBook Pro. The left/right click buttons also require much more force to click on the ENVY 15.
With 6 speakers and 2 subs, I was expecting some astounding audio quality with beats audio on the ENVY 15. However, I am not that impressed even when playing FLAC files. In some cases, the MacBook Pro speakers sounded better. The ENVY 15 can get louder than the MacBook PRO, but audio sounds distorted in my opinion. Others may have different opinions, so test this for your self.
One thing that is really frustrating are two red dots on the left bezel of the display. These appear to either be IR sensors, but they are subtly flickering continuously and are really bothersome. I have sensitive eyes and I can see them flashing rapidly quite easily.
The beats volume knob works well and holding down the knob brings up the beats audio dashboard. USB ports work fine and I had no dents as others had mentioned.
I haven't kept up on how to do benchmarks in the past year or two, but I did run 3D Mark 11 on the ENVY 15 and the MacBook Pro to compare differences.
I am a little disappointed to see the ENVY 15 running slower than the MacBook Pro 15. Here is a link to the 3DMark comparison of both: Result
Can anyone please explain why the MacBook Pro 15 performs better than the ENVY 15? I thought the video cards were essentially the same.
The Windows Experience Index gave the ENVY 15 a 5.9 for Areo Graphics and 6.5 for Gaming Graphics. The MacBook Pro 15 got 6.9 in both categories.
NOW AVAILABLE - Updated ENVY 15, ENVY 17 / ENVY 17 3D
